My most transparent episode yet. It's often so easy for me to hide behind politics, social issues and events. But my faith has been hidden for far too long on this podcast. Recently, not sure why, but enough is now enough and I will not hide any longer. This is both a hard look at myself, and the Church, both local and abroad. This isn't a theological debate, a sermon nor a denominational nod. Quite the contrary, it's asking ourselves the hard question - as THE CHURCH, who are we, and who were we always meant to be? In many recent conversations, it seems someone always brings up something rooted in offense. Someone gets offended at something we say, or vice versa but it would appear no one can have a classic conversation anymore. But as I move forward on the subject of family, and the attacks from all sides that seek to tear it apart, even offense seems to rear its ugly head on this topic. Everyone has an opinion, accepting that is truly the beginning to correcting some of the issues in todays society.

In this episode its just me, alone with my opinions. At a recent Burke County School Board meeting someone finally showed up in support of pornographic books in our media centers. Slinging "First Amendment" protections and a stay off my lawn edict for the mean-old church congregation from a neighboring county, a current high school teacher stated proudly that he would have no issue with his children reading these books. In this episode my problem is not just outspoke teachers, its directed at silent churches here in Burke County. Thank you again for listening.

Part two of a discussion with Jamey Wycoff, local Burke County School Board candidate. The fight has only just begun to rid our public schools of pornographic materials. Pandering, playing shell games, wordsmithing and concealment are but a few tools those who are for the "inclusion" of these materials are using to draw away attention and offer false narratives to the parents of public school children. They have used the magic number 14+ to blatantly state who they believe is ready to read about rape, sodomy, beastiality, incest, drug use, prostitution and much more. Episode 2 is a discussion with local conservative school board candidate Jamey Wycoff. Jamey is at the forefront of combatting the pornographic book titles found throughout our school libraries. Currently a state and national topic, with many lawmakers promising attention and change, Burke County could soon see itself at the tip of the spear.
Join Jamey and I as we discuss the battle for change and issue a call for more parents to rally their voices in notifying local schools administrations and boards that our children are off limits!!

Burke County NC, small town America, which seems to have developed growing pains. Instead of embracing a quiet existence, we had to get busy with inviting a more inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. But with the invitation, we ushered in some big-town problems. From rampant homelessness, property crime and pornography on school shelves it seems our high-brow wishes have brought us to a place where we don't seem to have any solutions to either of these issues.
Moving forward, I will be speaking with many local leaders who are out there fighting against the policies and programs that is creating this chaos. This is just the beginning...stay tuned!!

Todays world is jaded, bruised and divided. But its good! Deep inside each of us is a desire to be in community with one anther, regardless of our differences. In the past, this was often through civic organizations, community celebrations and church. Yep, deny it all you might, this country was built on the belief in God and our towns boast a long history, many with a "church on every corner".
But in the past few decades, we sought out better ways to do this thing called church. We polished it up a bit, made it more colorful, with better lighting and less stained glass, hipper pastors wearing Converse and not 3 piece suits and music that rivals many well established rock bands. But has it gained the Church more followers or less? Join me as I deep-dive into some facts, some opinions and some disturbing trends. As always, thank you for listening!
With a quick look around, you would have to be blind to see that the world is jacked up....like not a little...a lot! But you cant say anything, right? You might hurt someone's feelings.
This week is a turning point...no major edits, no previously written dialogue, just me! Good or bad! When I first started this podcast I vowed to avoid politics and religion and while I haven't changed my mind on religion....my faith is worth talking about. My views on politics are, for the lack of a better way to say it, just as valid as your opinions. As many of us are coming to grips with, our opinions should be spoken - they come with risks but what do you have to lose? Friends? From my recent survey, most of you don't have them anyway. Time to shift gears!
Todays world is full of obvious and not-so-obvious propaganda and manipulation. Its not accidental that you are talking about a product and suddenly appears in your Facebook or Google ads. From national syndicated news outlets to small town newspapers, getting you to listen or purchase more is the end-goal. They used to hide it better, today....they don't care.
Sadly, it has taken a toll on our society and on us personally. So what do we do about it? How do we regain the life that we once had? Or do we even want the old ways back?

A recent adventure on Lets talk Burke County is more proof that we have wussified society just enough to kill the art of debate and create PeeWee Hermans screaming "I Know You Are But What Am I" at every comment they don't agree with or somehow hurts their feelings. Burke County is flooded with Beta Males and females who have no voice outside of "Shut Up and Be Pretty" ....prove me wrong!!!!
and yes....my intent is to make you mad!!!

Todays world, dictated by social media or the media in general, is driven by headlines. The catchier the title, the more likely you are to click and/or read. Most of us are oblivious to the constant manipulation but recently it dawned on me, the power this medium had on mine and others lives around me is powerful.

The war on men is real. and so is the war on women. This week I talk about one of the factors that seem to break down so many strong men over time. Its real and its pervasive, and hiding in more shadows than we care to admit. The people who are in control of the puppet strings don't want you breaking the spell. But your family, your friends and your self...is depending on you overcoming this weight!

Sometimes a day out with your family is an enjoyable experience. The sights, the smells and the environment. Lake James is a beautiful example of the beauty of North Carolina. Unfortunately, Paddy's Creek beach hasn't got the memo that families with small children like to have a little cleanliness to go along with their fun. While it seems that everyone has been and is offended by everything. No one seems to want to do anything but throw insults....true debate is DEAD! Well, in this episode, I leave nothing to question. Its just me and my opinions, right or wrong....good or bad! But the glory of this is....they're just opinions! Everybody has them.....and sometimes they cost you your reputation and sometimes they cost you business but they are worth sharing.....in a civil way!

First Episode of Simply Asking Why! Other than being my first podcast ever, this is loosely titled the "UMMM" episode. Its an old habit that died back in my morning show days, but it was a slow death then and I would imagine it will take a few episodes to shake off the dust again.
I wanted to give you a small amount of background for myself and my reasons for starting a podcast. My goal is to start local and remain local. There are far more interesting stories here in Burke County NC than I will ever be able to introduce or unpack in a simple podcast. I look forward to the friendships and topics this adventure will bring to my life and others.
I truly thank you for taking the time to listen and I promise that its all improvement from here on.
