Ron Murphy has been investigating the stuff of nightmares for over 30 years. He has investigated the things that go bump in the night and meticulously researched the historical and psychological context of myths and legends from around the world. Mr. Murphy seeks to uncover the archetypal precedent for the monsters that haunt our collective thoughts. A phantom or spook light is a mysterious, unexplainable light or glowing orb, often seen in remote areas, that appears to move, change colors, and react to observers. These lights are sometimes referred to as ghost lights, corpse candles, or will-o'-the-wisps. They are often associated with folklore and legends, with some cultures attributing them to spirits, supernatural beings, or even mischievous entities.

September 3rd 2010, Frank Siecienski noticed that something had been eating a whole bunch of apples from his tree. He then set up a trail cam to take photos every minute. He left it for seven days and seven nights.

He retrieved the camera. He was shocked to discover what was the reason for his apples disappearing. It's important to note that whatever was captured was only there for about a minute. If it was there past the two minute mark, we would have another photo.

Frank Siecienski is a self-described Bigfoot researcher from Hubbardton, Vermont. He claims to have captured an image of Bigfoot on a trail camera on his property in September 2010. Siecienski is a strong believer in the existence of Bigfoot, and states that Bigfoot sightings in Vermont date back to the late 70s and early 80s. He believes Vermont is a suitable habitat for Bigfoot due to its remote and undisturbed private land, with areas like Rutland and Hubbardton experiencing consistent sightings. Siecienski also says his photo captured a female Bigfoot (Sasquatch), approximately 400 pounds and accompanied by a baby. He believes it was either protecting or picking up its young. While others have suggested his photo may be of an owl, Siecienski remains unconvinced and even has a vanity plate "BIG FT" on his car, which he says sparks conversations and leads to other reported sightings. Siecienski has also stated that speaking about Bigfoot can lead to ridicule, but he is open to discussions and has made friends with people who were initially skeptical but are now believers.

A unique milestone achieved. Today (August 26th 2025) marks the Thirteenth Year since I started this little journey, and I'm saying that loosely. As it's been awesome, lacking, and more importantly, still learning through the chats and research. While still going out there and exploring and investigating on terms.

I'm also in the works of a couple projects, and if you're interested. Let me know! Celebrate by supporting over at TeePublic and grabbing some swag today to represent.

King Philip’s War not only left much of early New England in ruins, but it also left a permanent psychic scar upon the land that still resonates in the many haunted places where wartime tragedies took place.

Ghosts of both settlers and indigenous peoples flourish in the region to this day where battles, murders, and massacres took place. Even the ghost of Metacom, better known as King Philip, roams the many places he held dear in life. Visit Nine Men’s Misery in Cumberland, Rhode Island, where screams of the victims of the war can still be heard. Take a trip to Hockamock Swamp where ghosts and strange creatures roam among the thicket. Stroll the paths along Sin and Flesh Brook where the ghost of Reverend Howland is seen centuries after he was brutally murdered by the enemy. These are just a few of the many places that still harbor eternal tenants from one of the bloodiest conflicts ever fought on American soil.

Authors Thomas D’Agostino and Arlene Nicholson uncover the dark side of what is largely considered the “Forgotten War.”

Vermont’s hills hold the echoes of a spirited past. Haunting stories and wandering ghosts are found in numerous burial places from the Riverside Cemetery in Burlington to the Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier.

The Bowman mausoleum in Cuttingsville contains some heartbreaking symbolism. Throughout the state, disturbing tales of mountain madness, murder and “vampires” can be found carved in stone. Discover the graves of humble farmers with independent spirit like Justin Morgan, Ethan Allen, and “Snowflake” Bentley who changed the course of history. The ancient gravestones in Rockingham were once removed and put on exhibit in New York City, while innovative gravestone carvers from Barre to Bennington left artistic interpretations of death to awe and inspire.

Author and tour guide Roxie Zwicker explores these historic and legendary graveyards.

THE THAW is set in the late 19th century in the challenging Vermont hills. Ruth and her aging parents, Alma and Timothy, struggle to subsist on a failing farm after Ruth is abandoned by her unfaithful husband. They turn to a remedy as old as the hills, a sleeping tea that allows the elderly and infirm to sleep out the winter months while frozen and packed in snow, to be safely revived in the spring. But when a storm blows in an early thaw, the ritual is broken and the sleepers wake too soon – to horrifying results.

I’m planning on traveling around Vermont to create videos, I need to film on and around Vermont to find the places. I love being able to travel, and by the cost of gas, I can explore more areas than just the original stop. Last year alone I created roughly 30-40 videos alone, that’s from traveling, exploring and investigating Wilson Castle.

With this project, in hopes to reach the goal, for the to continue creating content for Haunted Vermont. And if we reach the goal, I can then focus on planning my trips to film, while coming back to reliable equipment to create the content I provide for FREE via YouTube. I’m offering what I think are great rewards in helping to achieve what I need in order to continue this year, and not worry about having to rely only at home. But to be able to create, on the go. Which is why a laptop would be great, before replacing a desktop tower, that would be fast enough to handle the editing of videos and audio, while not choking it at the same time.

I need these equipment pieces to help edit, render, publish the videos. Record any podcasts I do, visually or audibly. While then edit, render and publish the Episodes. While doing so, I can help the cost fracture for traveling, paying places (if needed) to make sure that what I record, and edit to become Videos and Episodes. Can be achieved.

I am a father of two wonderful young men and engaged to a wonderful woman that I can't imagine life without. We live in Manchester, NH and love the granite state! I am a previous member of PI-NE from 2008-2011 am I am very grateful to be with the team again and leading our New Hampshire division! Throughout my whole life, I have had experiences with almost every aspect of the paranormal ranging from UFOS to spiritual phenomena, to evidence of Bigfoot. These experiences gave me a passion for all things paranormal, which I love to research and investigate. I also have a deep passion for spirituality.

At PI-NE, we stay open and humble. I believe that we will only come to understand the paranormal and our reality if we remain open to all possibilities and investigate using many disciplines such as history, science, and spirituality (just to name a few). This is the only way we will best serve our clients to validate their experiences, as well as provide answers about the experiences they're having. Best of all, it brings a peace of mind to our clients, who are top priority, to know they have a team doing everything they can to help them with their situation. Thank you for choosing PI-NE!

This audio is taken from the actual video created on site.

According to local legend, in the eighteenth century in North Pownal, Vermont, a widow named Margaret Krieger, despite her dowager status, remained independent and prosperous, an irregularity for widows of the time. The community accused her of being an “extraordinary woman,” which “brought upon her the envy and suspicion” of her neighbors (Brownell, “Pownal,” Vermont Historical Gazetteer, 1867).Accused by the local “safety committee” of witchcraft, Widow Krieger had to prove her innocence. She had two equally terrible options: 1) climb a tree, then have it chopped down with her in it and see if she lived or 2) get dropped into a freezing river through an ice hole and see if she floated. If she survived either, then she was, indeed, a witch.Widow Krieger chose the river. Dropped into the icy waters, she immediately sank to the bottom. Realizing she was, in fact, not a witch, one of her accusers dove in to save her from drowning. Fortunately, the old woman survived the ordeal and is said to have lived several more years.

Robert is a 7th-Generation Vermonter, born in Rutland in 1958. I am a descendant of William Brewster of the Mayflower and count among my ancestors a Great-Grandfather, Great-Great Grandfather, and Great-Grandmother who were all artists.

I graduated from St. Michael's College in 1980 with two degrees, one in Fine Arts and the other in History. This, of course, rendered me unfit for employment, so I went on to get a Master’s in Art Education from Castleton University in 1985.

From 1981 to 2012, I was the art teacher at the Browns River Middle School. Since 1995, I have served on the Board of Directors of the Northern Vermont Artist Association, first as president and now as vice president. I am a founding member of the Vermont Comic Creators Group.

Champ – The little plesiosaur is a children’s book that tells the story of Champ, the sea creature who lives in Lake Champlain. The story begins with a young Champ finding himself alone and then his adventures along the Adirondack coast as he matures. The book is a combination of photos that I’ve taken and watercolors I created and merged to show a visual representation of our beloved Champ. Although the book reflects endless hours of work, I loved combining two passions, photography and watercolors. The story is based on stories I heard growing up, documented history and of course, a dollop of folk lore. I hope that you enjoy this endearing story of Champ and the art that I created to make our favorite lake creature come to life.Website: https://HauntedVermont.org

Failed baseball player Jason Dillon has just moved to the quiet, Vermont town of East Valley, but unfortunately, his timing couldn't have been worse. Though the entire twentieth century only brought eight notable storms to the Green Mountain state, Hurricane Ivana has just arrived with a special delivery—a tree through Jason's roof.
On his desperate trek to find help, Jason comes upon Sophia, a little girl who has been tied up and left in the woods. Despite his best intentions, Jason's attempt to help the child has interrupted the ritual of a neighborhood cult—a ritual that protects the town from an ancient demonic swine.
With all the roads leading out of town impassable, Jason and his few allies must not only escape the pursuing cultists, but somehow survive a curse that has left the majority of East Valley's population with an insatiable hunger.
Cultists, cannibals, and the demon itself must all be defeated if Jason and his friends are going to survive...Website: https://HauntedVermont.org

I scream, you scream, we all SCREAM for ice cream!
Burlington, Vermont has always been Phil's favorite place in the world. From maple syrup farms, to shimmering Lake Champlain, to Ted and Barry's Ice Cream, what's not to love? So when Phil's family decides to spend the summer visiting friends on the lake, he is thrilled. That is, until the twins, Fia and James, tell him all about the people who have mysteriously disappeared after swimming in the lake . . . and the terrifying beast said to lurk below its surface.
Phil isn't about to let some silly old legend ruin his summer (or his ice cream). But when an unseen creature in the water nearly attacks him, he has no choice but to team up with his friends to take down the lake beast once and for all--unless it gets them first!Alex Henry is the secret pseudonym of an author who lives in New York, likes to travel all around the US and beyond, and enjoys writing books that are beastly, dark and strange--books that keep you up reading long into the night. Mia and Candice have also come onboard to talk about their little mishaps, or at least experiences. As the mishap could have been mistaken for something thrown, and not a "punch."

Lucy Lago is a nine year-old orphan. She believes that Champ, the Lake Champlain Sea Serpent, lives and lurks in the lake by her cabin in Crown Point. She lives there with her grandpa, who she calls “Papa.”

Despite mockery and mercenary forces opposing them, Lucy and Papa determine to venture out on their rickety rowboat and bring awareness of America’s Loch Ness Monster to the world.

Co-written by Academy-Award-considered filmmaker Richard Rossi and retired school teacher Kelly Tabor, Lucy and the Lake Monster is a children’s series and soon-to-be feature film that masterfully illustrates how to overcome mental health challenges like worry, depression, and anxiety with childlike faith.

“For me, growing up in Crown Point was magical. Hearing stories of our legendary Champ, captivated my interest as I swam and explored the shorelines and waters of Lake Champlain. As a teacher, I later took those stories and experiences I had with me into the classroom and shared them with hundreds of students over the years, piquing their interest.” *– Kelly Tabor, Co-Writer

“Champ, the sea serpent, is an allegory for God. The pure in heart, like Lucy, see Champ as good. Others teach Champ is a monster for mercenary purposes, the way manipulative ministers scare people today.”- Richard Rossi, Academy-Award Considered Filmmaker, and Co-Writer*

DIANE STEWART“I am Jeff’s wife. We have two boys 18 and 15.April of this year my husband was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 Brain Cancer. On the hope of extending his time with us he is on a aggressive schedule of radiation and chemotherapy. Due to this and his brain surgery in April he is unable to work. The small savings we had has gone towards hospital bills, bringing him to the all his appointments, paying for all of his medications, the ridiculous inflation cost of food especially healthy food and all of our other obligations, we have found ourselves in need of help.It would be a blessing if we didn’t have to worry about our housing, if our cars will be in our drive way in the mornings and if we can afford to get his medications and get him to treatment .What ever life my husband has left I want it filled with loving memories.Asking is one of the hardest things we have had to do.”

I’m asking if you can support his family in this time of need. I know the world is going through a lot right now, but even if you can’t donate. Remember Sharing is just as effective, Thanks for reading.

Paul talks about his latest project, "My Ghost Journal". A way to keep up to 28 locations, with pages from pre-investigations, early captures from photos, video, evp's, emf's... To documenting five witnesses to help with your main investigation. Which also sees the format of captures again, minus the witnesses. However you can then use the main investigation to describe your night. Another thing you can add are the dates, weather and moon phase as well. So you can really get an idea of what works and doesn't work for you later on down the road, or maybe you'd like to just document the same place, hoping to get different results.

The journal itself contains 200 pages, 28 locations you can add total. Add 5 witnesses, document your captures from Photos, Videos, EMFs, EVPs... It's quite big yes, but we wanted it to be the perfect size to write down enough information and more. "My Ghost Journal" is available now on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or wherever you get your books.

Back in Vintage Market Days 2021, Tessa and I tried out this event for the first time. Although I felt the prices are kind of high to just enter this event, just to then spend more money once entered inside the Vermont State Fairgrounds in Rutland. Cody's stand quite stood out amongst the others, as it was a cozy, small redone over animal trailer. Possibly a horse trailer? Don't quote me....

As we talked and smelled all her lovely soaps, we noticed she had a lovely print of Champ from Lake Champlain, while some cool little stickers. From there we grabbed her business card, kept in touch throughout the rest of 2021. And, after examining her website more, I suggested why not have a Champ Bundle? Which includes that same 11x17 print, and 2 Stickers. Which is currently unavailable.

Today, we invite Cody to talk about her Art, Champ, and the difficulties of running a soap business. While trying to stay creative, and how Cody and her mother (Pam Putnam) are possibly gonna go about their book project.

Jason was born in Vermont and have lived here his whole life. Jason has always been fascinated by stories of the paranormal and particularly any stories that are based in Vermont and the other New England states. At one time, Jason was active in local, independent filmmaking and started researching the Eddy family to write a screenplay about their story. Since then he has gathered thousands of pieces of research on the story, including newspaper articles, vital records (birth, marriage, and death certificates), funeral records, letters, real estate records, military records, education records, and more.

More of the Eddy Brothers can be read from Henry Olcott's book, "People from the Other World".

What's hiding in the woods of Vermont? Paranormal researcher and former private investigator Jason Lorefice has spent over 10 years investigating the strange, the bizarre, and the unexplained. Not widely acknowledged, the Green Mountain state has been home to a population of large hairy hominids we most commonly refer to today as "Bigfoot" or "Sasquatch." In his quest, Lorefice has investigated and documented several dozen cases of eyewitness accounts of mysterious hairy bipedal creatures that roam our Green Mountains. Reports of these Sasquatch creatures are nothing new to the state of Vermont. In early times, English settlers describe experiencing such creatures in the night with glowing red eyes and ear piercing screams. Eyewitness accounts date far back as the 1800's where some residents of Bennington describe their encounters with the "Bennington Monster." It's in the Glastonbury Mountains where 7 people have mysteriously vanished under very strange circumstances. Who or what is to blame for these mysterious disappearances? There's never any shortage of theories. Lorefice gives us plenty of evidence suggesting that Bigfoot is more than just an urban legend.

Paul and Allen chat with Jason to discuss his experiences, stories and what other type of Cryptids are really out there. Jason got disconnected. If you have any questions for Jason for his return please comment below.

During a bitterly frigid winter night in the late 1800’s, a fire occurred on the original railroad trestle in Hartford, VT. The Montreal Express, a train with passenger cars carrying 78 people, derailed and burned. Tragically, thirty-six people were crushed, drowned or burned alive, including a boy and his father. To date, this was Vermont’s worst railroad disaster.

Over the last two centuries, people with enterprising ideas have envisioned it as a place of business. Four hotel fires later, they were left to wonder: was it coincidence that led to their failure, or the curse of Brunswick Springs?

Brunswick Springs is located well off the main road in Brunswick, VT., a town of approximately 100 residents in the Northeast Kingdom. There are six individual springs at the spot, and each allegedly contains a different mineral-iron, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, bromide and arsenic-that flow into the Connecticut River 65 feet below.

In 1874 he became aware of the séances of the Eddy Brothers of Chittenden, Vermont. His interest aroused, Olcott wrote an article for the New York Sun, in which he investigated Eddy Farms. His article was popular enough that other papers, such as the New York Daily Graphic, republished it. His 1874 publication People from the Other World began with his early articles concerning the Spiritualist movement.

Also in 1874, Olcott met Helena Blavatsky while both were visiting the Eddy farm. His foundational interest in the Spiritualist movement and his budding relationship with Blavatsky helped foster his development of spiritual philosophy.

The Eddy Brothers were William and Horatio Eddy, two American mediums best known in the 1870’s, who claimed psychic powers.

Pittsford Haunted House, was once known as The Caverly Preventorium or “The Vermont Sanitorium”. Housing 100 patients that contracted the dreaded disease at the time with no cure, tuberculous. It held dark experiments from doctors, and lost fundings eventually leading to it’s closure in 1967. It became part of what is now known as the Vermont Police Academy and then went to the Vermont Fire Department, where even today it is opened to the public during October for their annual Pittsford Haunted House.

Back in the fall of 2013, film makers Owen Mulligan and Jay Vos contacted Paul Dulski who runs Haunted Vermont to help find a location to shoot there last and final tale of there film that was released on October 27th 2014, known as DEAD STATIC. The tale takes on the true facts of witnesses claiming to see a small female child staring out on the second floor window. However since it’s a horror film, not everything is true.

A copper statue located at Green Mount Cemetery in Montpelier, Vermont is that of a male figure, sitting with closed eyes looking upwards, his head covered with a shawl. Like many similar legends, “Black Agnes” supposedly is cursed with the power to some pretty vile things to those who may be tempted to sit on his lap. The list of not so wonderful circumstances include a certain death within seven days and a range of just plain, bad luck.

One thing remains a fact. The statue is bestowed with the title “Thanatos” (Greek for the word “death”). John Erastus Hubbard (1847 – 1899) was a Montpelier businessman with enough wealth to have the statue created and watching over his final resting place.

John Hubbard was a business man in the Montpelier area in the 1800’s. It was said that he contested and inherited a sizable amount of money from a wealthy aunt, (who had originally left the city of Montpelier a virtual fortune). He set about the task of building a public library for Montpelier, but at about 1/3 of the cost his deceased aunt had intended. Needless to say people in the area considered him greedy and mean spirited.

Some of the reported odd occurrences surrounding “Black Agnes” included glowing red eyes at night, blood curdling screams and other creepy noises. Some people believe that the statue was haunted due to the misdeeds and demeanor of Hubbard, while he was still alive. Stories were told about a number of people who dared to sit in the lap of Black Agnes only to be found dead later.

Welcome to the Premiere of HAUNTED VERMONT PODCAST, on this debut Episode we learn the History behind the 19th Century Castle. Which is the ONLY REAL one ever built in the heart of the Green Mountains. A place that is still available for weddings, but within these walls. Could one of the Wilson family members still be lingering around?

In this Episode I talked with the owner of the castle, Denise and volunteers Andy and Sheila.

Also appearing is Steve from South Glens Falls Paranormal Society, and John Dean known for his Terrorealm haunted attractions.

ABOUT THE CASTLE: The Castle has been the home of five generations of the Wilson family. It’s design is a blend of European styles. Part of the estate is presently in the Wilson Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, to preserve its longevity.

The facade of the Castle is set with English brick and marble, and is dominated by nineteen open proscenium arches and shadowed by a towering turret, parapet, and balcony.

The residence of the 115 acre estate has three floors spaciously divided into 32 rooms. The interior features are highlighted with 84 stained-glass windows and 13 fireplaces finished with imported tiles and bronze. The Castle’s furnishings include Far Eastern and European antiques and museum pieces, complemented by statuary, Chinese scrolls, and Oriental rugs. The various rooms with their distinctive features provide an elegant and richly gracious interior – perfect for the wedding of your dreams.

On the grounds are cattle barns, stables, the carriage house, and the glass house and plenty of space in the scenic Vermont countryside.

Tessa and Paul chat about the Vermont Urban Legend Folklore, Marble St. located in West Rutland, Vermont. Known to have a ghostly story about a lady ghost hitchhiker that can sometimes be seen wearing a white dress, carrying a child or pushing a child by a stroller. And sometimes can be seen without the child at all. It's also said this lady connects to the other urban legend or folklore of the vanished town of Whipple Hollow, which was populated back in the 1840's of the Marble Business days. If this lady is somehow connected, was she from Whipple Hollow or was she from somewhere else? I emailed the West Rutland Historical Society and this was the response I had gotten.

This is the original response I got back.

"In most cases about the past, a great deal of information we get is through oral history and difficult to prove. This is also true of Whipple Hollow. There was never really a town per se. There were farms, owned and worked by Swedes with help from new immigrants who were boarders and family members. Just south of the Florence Pittsford line, there was a rather large property owned by the Mills family, and like all of the subsistence farmers, they probably sold foodstuffs, or perhaps had a blacksmith in the family who also worked for others. There was a school, on the first cross road now called Bristol Road, that went into Proctor, over the mountain. On this road is also a cemetery, most markers are from early 1800s. The historic society is in the process of putting together another book on schools, and there was also a school on this Bristol Rd, just west of the cemetery. This was the community of Whipple Hollow. When the True Blue marble business expanded in the mid 1840s because the rock was used for building foundations, many of the farmers went to work in the Ericson quarry and True Blue mill. Which had the first steam driven saw in the country. But True Blue was 2 miles south of this "community" and though the railroad came out to the crossroads of Marble, True Blue and Pleasant Streets, there was never a village there either. The marble company did build houses (shacks, really ) above True Blue, but technically that was the end of Pleasant Street (the area beyond John Kurant;s farm). The only other population along the road called Whipple Hollow (starts where John Kruszewski used to live) and goes into Florence, about 4 miles long. That was just a stretch of farms. There is a great deal of oral history that includes stories of ghosts, but today many of those can be explained by fog settling over the swamp and magnifying the night lights coming from the quarry area. Also, some believe that since it contained many "lovers' lane" locations, landowners would create Halloween type diversions with carriage lights, dynamite, and other scary stuff just to keep people off their land. There is a booklet that we published about Whipple Hollow. Some are still available at $5 a book, but there's not a great deal that can be verified as records were lost or destroyed, town lines were redrawn and landmarks destroyed." - West Rutland Historical Society

To be honest, This response just shows how much urban legends, folktales and or lore can do. We can take particularly anything and turn it into something scary. What's even interesting is that, sometimes documents are either destroyed, never happened or just somehow got lost. So the urban legend about how a Town in Whipple Hollow “Vanished” couldn’t have happened.

Hello everyone! Paul here to talk with you about my upcoming short horror film, The Passenger: A Vermont Urban Legend. Shot on the actual location of where this local folktale resides on. This is my take on bringing one of hopefully many of our folktales to life. This Episode helps understand the idea and how you can help us create it as well.

Paul is also known from the 2014 Vermont Anthology film, DEAD STATIC. As he played Chad Williams in the last tale, Pittsford Haunted House. See Paul’s IMDb here.

Synopsis: A skeptic of the paranormal picks up a hitchhiker on a desolate road. We’ve heard the lore but did we miss more to the story?
