A foreboding sense of the extreme cold that is coming begins to set in as late autumn conditions give way to winter. Isolated and remote, an admirable level of fortitude is required by the hardy individuals who choose to live in these remote parts. British Columbia, Canada.

I little promo for my shot 'Steve', which is now up on SuperRare. What is Steve? Most have never heard of it, those that have might just think it's an Aurora. Let me explain below why this purple ribbon is so special and why this shot is so important.

This extremely rare capture went viral, and became a piece of scientific history. The shot and associated time-lapse were used in the physics paper led by W. E. Archer, “The Vertical Distribution of the Optical Emissions of a Steve and Picket Fence Event” published in Geophysical Research Letters, of which I was a co-author.

The paper advanced our understanding of these phenomena by narrowing down the altitude extent of the Steve and picket fence emissions.

I was fortunate enough to capture Steve while observing to the South while at Berg Lake. This meant I was clear of any interference from the Aurora to the North. The image was taken while

camping overnight at 1,646m (5,400 ft) as part of a multi-day back country hike.

The North Face of Mt Robson rises 2,308m (7,572ft) out of the lake to a total height of 3,954 m (12,972 ft) and is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.

A little video montage of our sail from Bequia up to Antigua in February. We stopped overnight in Cumberland Bay (St Vincent) and again at the Pitons (St Lucia) under a Q flag. From St Lucia we did a ~28 hour passage (201NM) straight up to Antigua. We all had a great albeit squally sail. It was sporty at times, however when passing to the lee of Martinique, Dominica, and Guadeloupe we got some rest from the swell. Hope you enjoy it. Let us know what you think.

A little video composition I put together from last month while we were in Chatham Bay on our floating home SV Cirrus. It is coming up to two years now since we left Ness Lake in Northern British Columbia. We hope everyone is well and apologies to everyone in Australia and Canada who we have not been in contact with for too long. The pandemic has brought the tyranny of distance back to the world. With no cruise ships, no charter boats, and almost no package tourists, it feels like we are living though a time regression to a quieter era out here. Chatham Bay is on the west coast of Union Island in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

A little video I put together while living on SV Cirrus last month in the Tobago Cays and Mayreau. Thanks to the SV Ventura crew for sharing these magic locations with us and teaching my eldest son Clancy to sail your dinghy.

These past few days we have sailed up and cleared into Antigua from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (about 45 hours sailing from where this video was shot). I will get back to editing some phtoos when I get my photo editing mojo back; I have a lot to share but just trying to enjoy life for the moment. Wishing everyone is well, from the crew of SV Cirrus.
