This is a test...
A test of the new iTunes Podcasting setup that was released last week.
The following file is NOT an mp3. It is an audio MPEG4 file. You may need to have iTunes to play it. (And have iTunes version 4.9 or higher to use the enhanced features)
[Right click here to save as a downloaded *.m4a file.]
Show Notes for this Enhanced Podcast Test:
I am in the process of submitting the show though the podcasting section on the iTunes Music Store.
Until this show is on the ITMS directory, those of you that use iTunes (version 4.9 or better) can manually subscribe to this podcast by going under the "Advanced" section of the tool bar, from there you will click on "Subscribe to podcast...". The url is "http://feeds.feedburner.com/Supplemental"
I still plan on doing the new show episodes as mp3's, so that I am not locking myself into only using the iTunes player. However, I did want to play around the enhanced podcast ChapterTool from Apple, released at the same time iTunes 4.9 was... hence this test.
An enhanced podcast allows chapters, multiple embedded images (slideshow), and clickable links. From the forums I have read it looks like that might be possible to do with mp3's. I sure hope so, I'd hate to have to keep creating two files every podcast. :(
The audio in this test is actually Boobzilla's final project for her audio class last quarter. So, there is a different approach to the production of the show compared to the pilot episodes. However, I like the 'commercial' skits, and would love to incorporate that into the actual show. It was fun.
Boobzilla also got an 'A' for it. :) Congrats.

Part Four of the pilot for Podcast Supplemental.

Show Notes for Episode #0 (Pilot) Part 4 of 4:
Ugh! I've fallen behind.
Been having lots of hosting headaches. I am maxed out in space at the school's server.
So I have been trying to host the first two shows at Ourmedia.org, and while I successfully got Episode #0, Part 1 uploaded; Part 2 isn't appearing on their site. I needed both episodes off the school server to fit this new one. So at the moment Part 2 is down until I can get it hosted again. :(
On another note, Part 3 was short on the last 5 minutes of the show for the first couple of days I had posted it. It has since been fixed.
I put more effort in editing in sound bites during the length of the episode and dropped 'Last Show' and 'Next Show' sequences.
In this episode it was my turn, lieumorrison, to tell some stories.
I'm starving for some feedback! Let me know what you think!

Part Three of the pilot for Podcast Supplemental.
Episode Three Notes:
Evil continues his talk about his past experiences at his last Fantasm [www.fantasm.org] convention and the gratuitous nookie action taking place on his bed without him.
I didn't have a preview of the next show included. That part is unavailable to me at the moment.
I awoke yesterday with my computer unable to boot and giving me a corrupt/missing ntoskrnl.exe message. Thus the rest of the show is not available to me until I fix my computert or get my back-up from Boobzilla. :(
Boobzilla and myself are close to the day (within the next two weeks) that we will be able to borrow the equipment (lavalier mics and portable mixer / recorder) to get more stories from our friends. If you haven't heard from us yet, and want to partake... PLEASE EMAIL US!
If you want to be on the mailing list to get announcements for new shows and don't feel comfortable signing up via Google Groups, email podcast.supplemental@gmail.com and I'll add you to the list.

Episode #0 (Pilot) Part 2 of 4 Notes:
I'm fairly happy with this edit. Still have some levels issues. (Which isn't going to change during these pilots, because my source's gain is too high.) I'm finally getting used to the Sony ACID interface. However, I still hate the program. I wish the labs had something like CoolEdit Pro.
Our guest for the show finally reveals himself as Evil.
Evil talks about past experiences of at the annual convention Fantasm. [www.fantasm.org]

See the previous post for the whole show and for the show notes.
We are finally up at the directory at http://www.podcast.net, after a couple day wait.
The content links work alright, but there looks like there is a problem in regards to the RSS enclosures that allow automatic download for those using subscription software.
I thought maybe this was a problem on the Livejournal end (like enclosures are not supported yet, or something to that effect), but I examined another's LJ based podcast geekcast code, and his code seems to work alright. I've since made the Supplemental community into a paid account by using my last gift code (Thank You julylorelei!) , and hopefully this will do the trick.
I had assumed that since my main account was a paid one, this would carry over to that account's managed communities. Perhaps that is not true. We will have to see.
I'm going to be sorely disappointed if it turns out that the enclosure feature is turned off for community journals. :(

Production Notes for Episode #0 (Pilot) Part 1 of 4:
My sarcasm did not come through. :\
So, I sound way too much cheerful for anyone's own good. :) Bad, bad, lieumorrison for lack of mic control. An electro-shock device will be hooked up to the studio main board and will electrocute me every time I red line. Plus I'll arm Boobzilla with a stick to smack me on my knuckles. (For the purpose of increasing our fetishist listenership.)

While this first message is primarily a test to see if the aggregated feeds connected to this Livejournal community and the Google Group Supplemental are working correctly, I might as well take this opportunity to give an explanation and introduction to the radio show Supplemental.
Supplemental is an experiment in self produced radio and an avenue for applied practice for future projects which explores the emerging technologies present in grassroots media via the internet.
Featuring a by-the-seat-of-the-pants style of live production by small groups of people telling autobiographical recollections from their past interspersed between music. This show is aired via the University of Cincinnati's internet radio station Bearcast (http:/bearcast.uc.edu), and podcasted / aggregated via feed sites using RSS/Atom syndication technology.
Supplemental is basically taking the best selected tellings of the all those funny stories and commentary we hear from our friends and publish them online as a streaming/on demand radio show. This project was inspired by the self publishing movement in the form of web comics like HomestarRunner (www.homestarrunner.com), Penny Arcade (www.penny-arcade.com), Something Positive (www.somethingpositive.net), Sluggy Freelance (www.sluggy.com), Megatokyo (www.megatokyo.com), and Red vs. Blue (www.redvsblue.com).
