With influences ranging from Son House and Skip James, through to Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, as well as more contemporary artists like Tom Waits and Nick Cave, Frank Sultana dwells comfortably in this vintage stylistic world, where the song is still king, and nothing beats a great story.

Over the past 11 years, Frank Sultana has been gaining notoriety as an explosive live act, regularly playing some of the best venues across Aus.

This is more than a blues episode.

We catch up about the good times playing underground acoustic concerts, insights into songwriting and talk about life on the road in Aus. We give amazing insight into life as an indie artist and the ongoing juggling of writing, recording and gigging.

“To me I think there is a way of writing where you convey what you want to say but you’re doing in just a really creative and interesting, humourous way and it’s an art”

Frank is pure class and it was amazing catching up with him for the podcast.

Tijuana Cartel have established themselves on the Australian music scene as one of the country's most exciting live acts, combining the sounds of the Middle East, India and Spain with a psychedelic and atmospheric approach to song writing.

Based in deep electronic roots with a concoction of multi-layered grooves, splashes of Middle Eastern vocals, lilting Moby-esque soundscapes, Flamenco and slide guitar, trumpet, live & electronic world beats and percussion, influenced heavily by break beats.

The four-piece formed on the Gold Coast in the 1990s and have since built a firm reputation as a global force, notching up residencies in Mumbai, Thailand, Bali’s KuDeTa Bar and Beijing’s famous Loong Bar during the 2008 Olympic Games. The band has also been a familiar face on the international festival circuit, playing stages across Europe and the USA as well as Australia's most loved events including Peats Ridge, Rainbow Serpent, Wave Rock, Splendour In The Grass, Blusfest, Woodford & Falls.

We speak all things music including Paul’s solo work and his journey with Tijuana Cartel, his experience in India and the amazing inspiration during his time living and performing there and we deep dive into a few aspects of the music industry as it stands today.

For his second full length undertaking “Blind to the Sea“, Adam Blacksmith has derived inspiration from his day job as special education teacher at Long Bay Jail.

Crime and punishment, relationships, identity and Australian Aboriginal history are among the themes explored by this salt of the earth album replete with metaphor and prose.

The listener is in for an eclectic sound with overtures of brooding indie-folk, a product of Blacksmith’s keen eye for storytelling coupled with the production genius of Jordan Ellery.

A local in Sydney’s Maroubra beach, Blacksmith counts Dylan, Augie March, The Drones, Converge and Carcass to be some of his musical heroes.

In today’s episode we discuss his new album and the challenges being an up and comer in today’s music scene, his life working as an educator in Longbay Gaol and his incredible break on the SBS docuseries, Lost for words.

Hailing from Australia’s country music capital, Andy’s early musical influences, like most of ours, reflected his parent’s record collection. Absorbing the art of storytelling from James Taylor, he was “singing sad songs before I was even sad,” it wasn’t until Andy left his hometown, drifted a while and landed in Sydney that his love of the genre emerged.

After becoming a household name in Sydney’s live music pub scene, 2019 saw Andy announce his official signing with I OH YOU through the release of his debut single Run To The River to high praise. Premiering on triple j, the track saw immediate support from: Consequence of Sound,Chorus & Verse, Elicit Magazine, Vents Magazine and Enigma. The track has since been added to full rotation on ABC Country Radio and had seen strong support from Double J, with additional playlisting across Spotify and Apple Music.

It was followed up by ‘When Your Mind’s Away’, a song that depicts the inner monologue that plays out when you realise the person you’re with is more ‘into it’ than you are. The end of 2019 saw Andy play to a capacity crowd at Marrickville Bowlo and deliver a rollicking set at Fairgrounds Festival in Berry.

This year, Andy kicked off 2020 with headline shows at Tamworth Hotel from 23-26 Jan as a part of the Tamworth Country Music Festival where he played to his loyal hometown. Audience numbers swell each year as buzz around his live shows gains momentum, with punters clearly not about to miss the chance to claim they’ve known him since the beginning.

Andy’s debut EP Namoi was released in February 2020 via I OH YOU. For fans that have been riding with Andy for years Namoi is an excruciatingly long-anticipated release. Namoi manages to capture all the energy Andy’s renowned for without losing an ounce of spirit, which is a credit to dream productionteam John Vella and Ryan Miller (Angus & Julia Stone, The Delta Riggs, The Jezabels), with mastering by Mike Tucci (DMA’s, Jack River, Moses Sumney).

Today we discuss his new found acting career with the multi-award winning series Robbie Hood, Andy takes us on his journey with mental health and we talk about the ballads he wrote as a young whippersnapper growing up in Tamworth that are still talked about to this day.

Tucked inside a pop shell lies Sydney-born, Kiwi singer-songwriter, Taylor B-W, who blends strong vocals, soul-driven melodies with emotive lyrics that reflect her resilience and quest for peace within herself and the world around her.

Swiftly moving between the many facets of pop music to show-off the different sides to her artistry, B-W proves she doesn’t like to be pigeonholed and would rather stay fresh and keep her followers on their toes. However, she is an avid fan of 90s music and culture, which has trickled into her sound and branding.

Performing frequently on stages around Sydney (selling out The Vanguard, Street Market and Django Bar this past year), and her latest tracks 'Nunchucks' and 'I'm So Broke' getting airplay and recognition on Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, MTV Upload and The Edge 96.1, B-W is beginning to make a name for herself in the scene.

B-W won the Australian segment of the unsigned-artist competition, Emergenza, & went on to win Best Vocalist at the 2018 international finals in Germany.

This episode explores about all things music including Taylor’s first break through, winning the Australian final of Emergenza, her amazing work as a conservationist in Africa and shares some wise words of wisdom for her younger self.

We also have exclusive access to her live version of the brand new single, Nunchucks.

Kallidad combines Spanish guitar magic with rock and roll energy to create a once in a lifetime sound that has seen the group tour across Europe, Asia and Oceania. The trio's notorious white facepaint masks their identities, shifting the focus to a musical style that is alive, intense, emotional and powerful. Kallidad's music is all instrumental - no lyrics are necessary to feel the energy and passion behind the music. Booming percussion and shredded nylon string guitars weave a deep web of sound that always leaves audiences breathless and begging for more!

This episode we explore Kallidad’s early days from buskers in Bondi to touring musicians. We hear straight from the man himself some amazing advice to upcoming musos and we hear some fantastic stories of life on the road. The end of the episode finishes off with Death Fiesta live at Montreux jazz festival so ensure you stay on to enjoy.
