Vulnerable, real conversations challenging the norm & empowering you to harness your intentional vision for your purposeful life. See nostalgia, now.Artist & Educator Bianca Morra hosts conversations with inspiring guests and also records journal entry style solo episodes with unabashed honesty. Listen in to a new episode every Wednesday and leave inspired by your every day with a deep peace of knowing that you're not alone & have the innate power to make this life count.
Today is a part two of sorts.
Last week's episode felt too big to just move on from and I've been burrowing myself into it ever since.
I uncovered a really deep insecurity of mine: being redundant. Feeling like what I have to share and what I feel so deeply compelled to say is obvious.
But isn't that what pictures are? redundant.
and thank goodness.
The most important things in the world need to be repeated over and over again.
My clarity problem revealed its true nature in this episode- it's a courage problem.
And what is so scary? the visceral joy that might come from setting myself free.

I went on a creative work retreat & was able to finally name the ambiguous monster under my bed. An insecurity that makes me cringe to even say it out loud but alas- I do.
I bring it here in the spirit of love, honesty, & in the shameless hope that speaking it out will encourage it to dissipate.

do you feel like you can never let your guard down in life?
sometimes I just want to be taken care of, the way I take care.
today I share a very recent & personal experience trying to find some clarity around a medical issue.
as I sift through the layers of why I feel like I can't let it go, I wonder where advocating for myself morphs into anxiety & paranoia, where intuition get's lost in a fog of fear, the exhaustion/necessity of hypervigilance, & how to empower ourselves in increasing our capacity to live & be with all of it.

after last week's episode i realized i was having a hard time figuring out how to love myself without having it be in relation to being "useful" "helpful" "serving" "loving" -basically anything that was inherently linked to how much I can be for others.
didn't sit well with me so I made a self exploration template and helped myself remember how to access actual love for myself. free link below for you to take it and make it your own. (i suggest a cozy drink, some music, & bonus points for recording yourself doing the process for no other reason but to witness something ((you)) beautiful.)
please do your homework: your visual love letter to you template CLICK HERE.
Today I share about a workshop I attended that made me cry incessantly. (lol)
& how for the first time in the history of my 15 year relationship with my partner- i was wrong (GASP). (lol again)

Not "there".
Not at a goal.

Have you arrived here, in this moment- in this body?
Do you need to "wipe it out" first? (all of the distractions, thoughts and ideas)

I'm officially untangling income from my work and redefining what creating income means and looks like for me. It's not quitting or failure- it's a peaceful decision.
I'm sharing about a workshop I've been selected for that brought me to tears and involved me sharing a piece of writing I submitted that made me think: "wait, is this actually embarrassing?" but also helped me realized how I've been at this work since I was 12 years old.

The parallels between the art of somatic self healing & the art of photographic practice runs deep.
This conversation truly excited me.
"With over 6 years of experience in the mental health field, Meleah has worked with diverse populations, including those facing severe mental illness, domestic violence, suicide, and grief & bereavement.
When she lost her job & became bedridden with chronic illnesses in 2020, she found herself feeling stuck and frustrated with traditional talk therapy modalities. Desperate for relief, she went on a journey of exploring alternative healing methods, such as breathwork, nervous system regulation, and somatic practices and found healing that she was unable to find in 7+ years of traditional talk therapy & went into remission. After completing her Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2022, she decided to walk away from the conventional therapy system and follow her instinct to guide therapists and wellness leaders on their OWN transformative paths, using the same holistic and alternative healing modalities that helped transform her mental, emotional, physical & spiritual health.
Her mission is to foster a revolution of ethical renegades who will pioneer the next wave of embodied, authentic & connected leaders to cultivate deep change and healing in the world."

This month in our membership "Wholeness" is our intention. There's so much value in recognizing the different parts of yourself but there's also a deep and profound beauty in standing in the wholeness of you. YOU are where all of the nuances, complexities, and oftentimes conflicting parts come together in an entity that has a completely unique, unrepeatable lens.
What might happen if you stood in the knowing of your wholeness in your daily life? Not operating with an emphasis of constant striving, efforting, and not enoughness, but grounding in your wholeness while loosely holding your curiosity for growth and expansion?
By zeroing in on my flow state in photo sessions, I was able to isolate the #1 thing that distracts my ability to enter flow in other areas of life.

*trigger warning- discussion around dog loss and the meaning of photographic work as it relates to loss.
Do you want to see what is important to you? Look at your photographs
Do you want to see what you’re afraid of? Look at your photographs
Do you want to see what’s missing? Look at your photographs
Do you find yourself searching for something that isn’t present in your current photographs?
Look at (the absence of) your photographs
Your photographic practice is a modality for self discovery, presence, & living an intentional life.
The part of you that knows you want to take a photograph also shows up later when you are witnessing the photographs you’ve taken.
You are accessing a higher consciousness.
The camera is a tool that invites both a neutrality & a heightened emotional response to a situation at the same time.
It distances and also draws you in.
You can see so much more clearly and also everything kind of blurs.
It’s going so high in the sky that everything seems still.
It’s accessing a part of you that has the ability to witness your life with the wisdom & scope of a bird’s eye view yet with the intensity of being so deeply inside of a moment that you almost forget to breath.
I think most of us undermine the power of this experience because it’s just too easy. It’s effortless & natural.
How could something so profound be so simple?
“I noticed this enough to take a photograph.”
It’s so pure.
you don’t need to cognitively know why you took the photo. or what it means.
you just let yourself pause long enough to feel something.
and if you give yourself another pause at some point, I bet you would find that you actually do know what it means and why you took it.
most of us do this every single day. take a photo.
yet we constantly search for answers outside of ourselves when we already “wrote down” all we need to know.
Your photos show you what you see.
Being aware of what you see keeps you awake to your life & gives you the power to intentionally choose more, different, or the same.

This episode is a conversational journey through creative flow, reflection, motherhood, & connection. A level of gorgeous truth that just sears into your soul.
Melinda has created her business around experiences that bring her love, joy, curiosity, creativity, and connection. Photography, writing and mentoring conversations are her spaces to explore with curiosity and creativity in a container women clients enter into with their own curiosity and openness to see themselves. She has created from a foundation of mothers and women having space to be. TO BE. And for herself to study life, mothers, and what she offers the world with her own wisdom and knowledge. Her business and life is exactly how she creates it and she is creating it one step at a time understanding; as women we have multiple facets, to honour each one, and to understand everything is reflected back- everything.

As someone that loves to comfort and make people happy, it's something I purposely check in with myself on. Being nice is so much easier than being kind. Being nice satisfies this moment. Being kind is doing something that may feel uncomfortable or scary in order to act in what you believe to be the highest good for another. That's what I feel when I think about saying "yes" to an initial ask/client inquiry & pushing back, giving context, and helping someone see a more enduring possibility they may not have considered.
When Childhood Photographer Carly Mitchell wrote a blog entitled "We were together, I forget the rest: On Family Photo Session Locations" on the importance of really considering family photo session locations, I knew I wanted to chat more. In this conversation, Carly & I chat about true responsibility in photographing a family, making intentional choices in the work/offerings you create, and what is behind the heart/human of it all.

Are you using your fear as a security blanket?
And if not “fear”, can you substitute a feeling that you struggle against but if you really stop to think about it, you might be the one grasping onto it?
I had a crazy revelation during a visioning NLP process.
For so long I have felt shackled to fear- as if it was an anchor holding me down against my will.
But through this exercise I realized that I have been holding onto fear for dear life. Keeping it as close as possible because letting go of it felt like letting go of my identity and the most important relationships in my life.
I realized that for me, fear is love.
Fear means love.
Fear is “doing your due diligence”.
It means you care enough to think 147 steps ahead of where you are to consider and anticipate any harm that might occur and be proactive in the way of steering the ship to avoid it. To protect my loved ones and myself.
What I truly did not realize until 2 nights ago is that subconsciously, it felt like letting go of fear was betrayal to those I love most.
Ouch. It hurt to see this.
And you know what pisses me off?
How fucking obvious it all is to me now.
But more than being pissed at missing something that now feels obvious and somehow instantly turned something from a scary ambiguous mount everest into a rolling hill on the countryside-I feel relief. excitement. empathy & compassion.
My whole life of this dynamic- my relationship with this word/feeling/state.
Demystified. Dismantled. Decoded.
By sitting down, getting still, and closing my eyes to see.
During this particular moment I had a guide walking me through this visualization NLP process, but I have had other truly powerful experiences that helped bring so much clarity to me. What was the common thread?
Me.
Sitting still.
Closing my eyes.
And becoming present to a vision I always had/have/will have.

Contrary to popular belief- I don’t believe we must wait to share from the scar and not the wound.
In fact, I actually think this perpetuates a world where we are all putting on a show for one another when really, we ache in a million different ways that we’ll never know we share because we are told to wait until we heal to speak.
That’s a big no from me.
We don’t need to wait to search for connection or tell our truths until we feel wiser or far enough from it to be able to speak with an “appropriate” level of emotion. We get to decide what feels right.

While I don’t believe you as the artist have to be able to articulate clearly your “why” and all of the other heavy shit that it feels almost impossible to verbalize- I believe when your soul is able to recognize the space between what you’re creating and what you’re feeling, you build an invincible trust with yourself. You gain deeper satisfaction. There is a depth to the work that feels rich with possibility.
**And what if that very space between what you are creating and what you are feeling is only made possible by the allowing of your impulses in the purest sense instead of trying to correct ourselves at every turn?
What if we took our gift of seeing others and their moments and their truth and directed our gaze back at ourselves?**

This is something I don't see talked about and not only is it a very common occurrence in my life, but keeping perspective on this topic is key for managing my energy and feeling good with my creation process & myself.
Today's podcast topic is so engrained in me that it took me 68 episodes to even realize this it is an important thing to talk about.
I am deeply grateful for my way of seeing…but sometimes it doesn't feel good.
period.
When you see the 47 layers of meaning in everything you see from the sun coming through the window in a strange way to weeds growing through cracks in the sidewalk, it can be so energizing & exhilarating- but it can also feel like shit.
It's easy to not do something about what you don't see. But when you see something profound, you feel an impulse- a responsibility- to honor it in some way. To help others see it. To engage with it. To not “take it for granted” by just moving past it.
Often times this is taking a photograph.
But just because you see it doesn't mean it is your duty to create something- even though it sure as hell can feel like it sometimes.
I don't have any grand solutions or ways to “fix” this. I don't even believe it needs to be fixed. I just believe it needs to be talked about. Shedding light on it lightens the heaviness of it. It can help us soften and relax into our gifts.
Dare I say- relax into the pure enjoyment of your gifts rather than posture at the compulsion to do.
(^^^As I type this I laugh at how much I need to hear this.)

What if we stop obsessing over why something we did well was just a fluke/doesn't count or on the flip side- stopped trying to dissect it in order to come up with the formula for replicating and increasing efficiency.
Sometimes trying too hard or questioning too much causes us to lose the thing that is so beautifully meant for us.
In this episode I also give you a new year's exercise that is very connected to "Help Me See" <3

Truth be told- I need this podcast episode today.
(Isn't it funny how sometimes we can feel so wise & totally “get it” and then other times you're growling and slamming cabinets like an angsty teenager because you were delivered soggy celery from the grocery store. ((the celery was the final straw.)))
This will forever be the podcast episode where I talked with a tissue in my hand the entire time. I feel like I've been sick for a month & now I'm writing to you at 6 am with a sick kid home from school AGAIN. My eyes are burning and I'm listening to a christmas toy song on repeat for the 14 billionth time and my eye is starting to twitch.
I have been tired, achey, & overwhelmed BUT this conversation reminds me that I don't need to figure out the answers to my life before taking the next step.
This idea that in order to move forward, we must unpack everything or need to figure out all the answers is paralyzing. And also, false.
Today on the show, my dear friend Jenny Sanchez. She calls herself the bad yoga teacher and she just created a wellness resource called Lessons From a Bad Yoga Teacher. We talk about her story, her reason behind creating the resource she did, & why feeling good can feel like SUCH A STRUGGLE. She essentially boils down centuries of sage wisdom into modern bullet points.
She is hilarious, real, & there is approximately zero sugar coating. In fact the preview clip includes the big reveal: there is no “i have arrived.” There is no point in which we are immune to falling into a slump of feeling like shit. The point of this episode is talking about how the real magic is harnessing the ability to trust yourself to get back to feeling good bit by bit. It's not sexy sounding- but it is real and true and one of the most powerful things you can know.

Our tools are amazing and I am so thankful for them- HOWEVER,
Technology changes.
Gear changes.
Your taste changes.
What's "on trend" changes.
We commit so much time, space, & energy into putting a lot of effort into perfecting something only for it to change. What if that energy went into something far more timeless? Far more enduring? Far more fulfilling?
Being present & calm in the face of nerves & constraint is the #1 reason I am always able to center myself in any shoot situation.

There I was in the middle of a session and my camera was crapping out on me.
I was frustrated and felt really uncomfortable after the shoot...but when I stopped to really think about why- actually, why- I realized that the camera malfunction really wasn't what I actually cared about...
Maybe momentum doesn't mean things progressing without a hitch- maybe it means finding ease and meaning and knowing even in the spaces that don't feel so good at the time.

When you walk into a space open to seeing truth vs immediately searching for "ideal" conditions or what is familiar, it is only then that you are able to create something that transcends time, space, & limited standards.
Making good photographs is not the point. Making something that is a visual representation of what we have no words for...that's what is possible.
Today I talk about how bravery & presence is far more important than skill when you are photographing people. If we can be with the intention of showing something real and sincere instead of trying to make something we are guessing they will like, we are reaching beyond standards/trends and into co creation, discovery & love.

I almost didn't post this episode once my rage dampened, but then I thought- no, it needs to be normalized.
Stuff like this happens every day. Whether it's an off the cuff fairly innocent comment or a blatantly rude and uncalled for criticism- either of them can feel like all of the air has left your body.
It's so easy for other people to tell you to not worry about it but whether you attempt to take the advice or not, that experience can impact you longer than we'd like to admit. This is why I think it's important that I posted my rant after I read a rude comment on one of my heartfelt blog posts. No one is immune to getting hurt feelings, but letting ourselves feel through it and then move through it in order to continue living our truth is crucial.
Here is me. mad. ranting while putting on makeup.
not as eloquent as I'd like to be...I believe the word "dipsh*t" made a few appearances....but it felt right in the moment so I went for it.
I hope this makes you feel less alone in whatever way it resonates.

You can't heal what you don't feel.
When I had my first son I went through intense postpartum depression. I was angry with everyone & no one at the same time. I couldn't believe that I had been whiplashed in such a severe way. “Cloud 9” & "newborn bliss" were nowhere near what I experienced and I had never heard anyone say anything other than lightly mentioning “baby blues” to which I had no context/understanding.
If I could go back in time I would give myself the gift of the book our guest on today's show wrote- “Dear Mama Bear With The F*cked Up Hair”.
Jo Dodd is a coach and author who writes books for kids and their adults! “But it's a really good job.”
"But it's good money."
“But it's what I went to school for.”
"But everyone else thinks it's a good idea."
“But it makes sense.”
“But I've never seen it done any other way.”
There is so much magic in our lives rationalized away.
Discarded and discredited because it doesn't carry the weight or merit of the masses. Of popular consensus.
Of easily understood.
and I firmly & ever so eloquently say, “eff. that.”
This life is precious and it flies by. It's not meant to live on the default setting.
It's like buying an expensive piece of technology and not customizing your experience of it. Not taking advantage of your ability to move the apps around and favorite your preferences. Just leaving it as is and not leaning into what lights you up makes the whole thing more clunky and way less enjoyable.
I don't want my life to feel clunky and unenjoyable.
There are ways, BIG & SMALL that we can design our experience & curate our contributions to this world.
Today we have podcast host and coach Kate House on sharing her story of leaving her 9-5 and completely starting over in the name of saving herself. And let me be clear- this is not in any way discrediting corporate life or more traditional paths- at all. The heart of this conversation is solely about recognizing what is draining life out of you and what makes you feel ALIVE. Whatever that may be.
Designing your world around those distinctions will change your life. 100%.
Join us in the conversation & reply here to let me know what comes up for you. <3

What if I told you that the way to be more present in your life is to use your phone more?
I'm not joking. This could actually work.
What if I told you that the secret super power hack that could unlock your 20/20 hindsight and rid you of regrets & ever having to say “I wish I knew how important that was at the time” is sitting in your back pocket/possibly in your hand in this very moment?
What's the last photo you took?
What does that say about you & your life in this moment?
Funny? Serious? Sad? Joyful?
These visual breadcrumbs root us into our lives and it's not all about the memento of the photo itself. It's about the PROCESS.
You are already halfway there.
Your photo taking habit truly has the power to CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
You already do so much of what I'm about to teach you, unconsciously. Turning on the awareness to it all will inevitably propel transformation, self discovery, & a richer experience of this one & only life.
I don't want to get to the end of my life and feel like I missed something. I don't want to think…"that was it, huh? damn."
I want to think, “Yes. That was IT. & I lived it. I really lived.”
I 100% know the single most important habit I have that enables me to live awake in my life is my photo habit. My mundane snapshot photo habit.
And I'm sharing it with you.
This new podcast episode is the audio to my free workshop Presence Through Photography. I highly recommend signing up to be sent the video class if you're a visual person. There's a slide deck to go with it.

Presence Through Photography Video Class
I was driving home and did something I've never done- recorded a podcast episode in the car.
I just couldn't help myself-I needed to speak right there and then. Not waiting until I got home or in a more ideal situation- I was vibrating with joy & purpose & need to speak directly from that moment. It felt URGENT to speak from this place of knowing and feeling in that very second.
I had spent the last 2.5hrs photographing a family doing absolutely nothing- & it was simply everything.
You see, there was no planned scenic background-
just the home in which they live their lives every day.
There was no coaxing of kids participating & behaving a certain way-
just letting them actually be EXACTLY who they perfectly are in this season.
There was no performing for the camera-
just a beckoning for them to look up at my lens for a moment every now & then while they were already in the natural flow of being in their bodies and in their lives. Their REAL lives.
This was not a box checked off on a to-do list.
This was not a mini session to be gotten over with ASAP in order to avoid emotional turbulence bubbling over from little ones just wanting to be.
This is was not a “job” for me.
This was “This.”
This was true seeing.I saw a treasured rock collection.
I saw toothy grins,
I saw the sun lighting them up in a way that felt like tangible rainbows.
I saw tears.
I saw an impromptu story time.
I saw blueberry & cheese snack time.
I saw a father lovingly witnessing his family.
I saw a mother who was so gentle & tender with her babies that it almost brought me to tears.
I saw patience, acceptance, joy, curiosity, and so much love.
In that session on a random Saturday morning, together we were all gorgeously present. Present to what is, was, or whatever could have risen during that time. There was nothing that was to be fear or nervous about. Nothing not idea. It was all perfect because it was presence.
But it didn't stop there.
In fact, it's only the beginning of the ripple effect.
When I got home & was amongst my own family chaos, I anticipated being a little frustrated with overstimulation- knowing I would want to simmer in what just happened a little longer.
But what happened was such a “duh” moment for me I laughed that I didn't see it coming. It's everything I teach.
I was awake to my life in a different way.
Suddenly my little boys incessancy was precious instead of slightly suffocating to me.
I found myself looking deeper into my baby's eyes instead of tending to him and putting him back down.
I felt gratitude in places & spaces that I would have glazed over that day had I not been woken up to seeing through the lens of my camera and the lens of someone else's mundane.
& now, when I deliver the photographs of moments I captured extracted from the real life version of this incredible family, they will be able to see visual proof of what there are no words for. It will remind them of what WAS far beyond the time where it is.
AND the freezing of the moments isn't even the best part. It is the gift of transformation inside of you when you are able to look back at those photographs with new eyes. Eyes that have seen more life. Eyes that have felt more things. Eyes that live in a time that is different. Photographs can comfort, heal, & move you.

I got so pissed.
I don't even understand why I was so rocked by it today of all days because I see this all the time.
Well intentioned loving individuals can offer "all knowing" advice from a place where they are wearing horse blinders themselves and don't even know it.
Now, listen. I am most certainly not claiming to be an all knowing vessel myself but what I AM claiming is the fact that if anyone is ever pointing you towards anywhere outside of yourself for answers pertaining to your art and your life, it's a no go.
There is a sweet spot of being dissatisfied with what you're creating, looking outside for inspiration, and yet still holding center. The more clearly you can hear your own voice and maintain that throughout your learnings and adding to your toolkit, the more powerful and fulfilling the outcome.
Be YOU.
Do YOU.
See YOU.
Hear YOU.
LIVE YOU.
The most work I have had to do is UNLEARNING the constraints I have been taught by people that have learned really well how to do it the way it's always been done.
THERE ARE NO RULES.
there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.there are no rules.
and yet…
i still effing forget this! Do you relate?
We have spent our whole lives taking on social norms, expectations, and perceptions about what & how to do things (from people that likely had no real idea of why the fuck they were even doing it besides the wonderful reason of “it's always been done like this”). So it makes sense that we need to continue to peel these layers off of us over and over again.
No one is excluded from this topic. It bleeds into every area of our lives. Today we are talking about it in the context of your business.

Sometimes making a major change in your life means slow & steady work.
Sure, it's not as sexy and dramatic as quitting your job the next day and having overnight success, but the biggest contributing factor to being able to show up in your highest and best self is feeling safe- in whatever way that means for you.
For Emmy Kissinger, taking the leap into her dream life of being a stay at home mom & entrepreneur meant 4 years of consistent action. Waking up at 4 am with her newborn in her lap and doing the work before the work. Kind of like an appetizer before the meal but something tells me 4am work is probbbably not as fun as a bloomin' onion. (i haven't had that in like a decade- no idea where that came from. I will probably have a fierce craving for it now.)
Emmy Kissinger is a wife and mom of 3 from Iowa. She is also the owner and founder of Connect Well Social a social media micro-agency on a mission to help businesses cultivate the power of meaningful connections using social media. On this episode we talk about her journey into entrepreneurship and how she juggles being present in her life & work. We also talk about the craving for connection in both online marketing & real life.
Now, can I ask you a question?
Have you had a secret desire that has just felt too big to even think about conquering?
What if you committed to it with the knowing that taking your sweet ass time might be the very thing that completely ensures you will get there? What is the very next baby step you could take towards that?

When do you avoid yourself?
You know- the times when you know something isn't a good idea but you find yourself going through the motions anyway?
That last shot? That person? That career path?
I think there is a serious level of sophistication that comes into play when we exercise our choice in how we do and do not decide to look under the hood of what is really happening inside of us during these life experiences.
And I'm not just talking about emotional and practical life choices- I'm also talking about health. Today's guest on the podcast weighs in with her experiences around excavating presence in different areas of life ranging from a trip abroad, to a career pivot, to her own experience with autoimmune disease and helping others heal with her work.
Kylie Fagnano is a Registered Dietitian, trained as an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner, as well as a Certified Leap Therapist. She holds a BS in Psychology and a Master’s in Nutrition.
The work that Kylie does is both big picture and diving deep into the details. And we definitely go places in this episode. This episode is on the longer side but I was not about to cut out any of our real talk so get cozy and let us know if something from the show resonated with you!

Define Your Presence, Design Your Life Series
In the month of June we are diving into how unique and personal our experience and definition of presence really is.
Amber Dolan-Bath is a mother’s empowerment and spiritual mentor. She created "Spirit of Mother", a community which holds and cultivates this vision of this village of mothers and mothers to be coming together to support themselves and each other on a soul level.
In this casual after hours talk, we each reflect on recent experiences of presence in our lives and what it means to tap into your inner voice and hear what you really need.

Sometimes vision is more about what you don't see than what you do.
What happens when we take ourselves seriously? When we don't settle for A, B, C, or D and instead make up our own damn letter.
Just because you haven't seen it done before doesn't mean it's not a possibility.
In this episode I get all revved up about my biggest strength- being a possibilitarian in my life. This isn't about "seeing the bright side" or "being positive". This is about consciously listening to that small voice inside and being led by the nuance of what truly feels best to you over "good enough".
Can you think of something in your life right now that kinda just feels "good enough"? What would make it feel amazing? What if we moved through the discomfort of change and habit and broke through to something that feels completely unique and fulfilling to you?
In this episode I talk about some of the reasons why I love those that inspire me and how someone that fully leans into their specific zone of heart and soul feels the most rich and expansive- regardless of how specific the focus is.

This month's intention in the Nostalgia, Now Membership is “Choice/To Choose” & this week's episode has everything to do with choices in the form of H A B I T S.
Habits can seem so involuntary that we don't have much power in the matter, but the truth is- it only became a habit through a repetition of choice.
Annoying, right? But also, empowering.
Today on the show we have Health Coach Kate McCauley talking through what it means to tune into your inner voice during times of stress. She shares tangible methods that she uses with her own clients to help them transform old patterns into new ones. Kate's work is all about maximizing mindset and living happier, healthier lives.

It all started with a panic attack at around 11 years old lying in my bed in the dark thinking about how death meant “nothingness”.
Have you ever looked back at a former version of yourself and marveled at how both simple and complicated everything was at the same time?
Who even was that person thinking those thoughts and doing those things?
Our answers can be right on the tip of our nose but we aren’t able to see if we aren't able to see it. (that wasn't a typo)
Today on the show for the very first time I string together the pivotal thought processes in my life that have led me to where I am today. Through this reflection I discover how my biggest fear became my biggest superpower.
Journal Prompt:
I would love to invite you to think about pivotal moments in your life and jot them down in chronological order. Can you find your thread? When did a fear become a strength? No matter how big or small.
Leave your answer or a key takeaway in a review for the podcast- I'd love to give you a shout out on the show <3

When is the last time you put yourself first?
When is the last time you truly thought, what do I need right now?
There is a reason why they tell you to put your oxygen mask on first in an airplane.
It's my belief that sometimes being "selfless" can cause far more harm than we realize.
Amber Dolan-Bath is a mother’s empowerment and spiritual mentor. She created "Spirit of Mother", a community which holds and cultivates this vision of this village of mothers and mothers to be coming together to support themselves and each other on a soul level.
This is an empowering conversation around what it means to fully own your ability to write the rules (or lack there of) in your life. When Amber had her daughter, she struggled with her faith with the divine, her self love, and her capacity for other people. After spending an entire year crying everyday, she said, "no more!"

If you only take one kind of photo, you only have one kind of memory to look back on. Capturing the not so happy moments can be crucial in helping us process, heal, and recognize how far we’ve come in the full scope of our lives when we feel ready to reflect.
This is about considering the possibility to process a moment in a different way. And in turn, giving your future self the opportunity to reflect on the fullness of your life.
An archive of one dimensional photographs of happy times can be disorienting when you’re looking back on your life.
Personally, the benefits of looking back on “sad” photos has been healing, given me perspective on my growth, and greater compassion for myself.
PROMPT:
Maybe next time you’re in a somber moment you take a photograph to see how it feels. You don’t even have to look at it for who even knows how long. But sit with how it feels to know you have this moment in time documented.

What happens when we don't glaze over the nooks & crannies of our mind?
When we become a stand for our nuanced truths and really dig deep into who we are..
Today I get intentional about naming why I've been hesitant to commit to the motherhood space. Any mamas not necessarily wanting to talk about their kids or their motherhood every spare second of their time?
We also talk about releasing bothersome patterns/habits by tracking down the sneaky source of discomfort from not so obvious origins.
Journal Prompt:
What is a recurring bothersome feeling/habit you want to release that you don't quite understand where it came from? Try to trace it back to its origin. Remember- it doesn't necessarily have to be a big event to have made an enduring impact.
What story are you telling yourself that you're ready to put down?

Imagine if you could live your life without the anxious/overwhelm/guilt/pressure swirl of “making it count” through some grandiose effort because living with ease and intention is a default- your new home base.
What if taking 20 minutes at the end of a month was all you needed to reflect, recalibrate, and align with yourself. SO you can stop saying "where did the time go?" because you KNOW where it went. You noticed. You saw it.
I tested a process- a super simple process, and I can not believe how powerful the results have proven to be.
I am officially SO excited to share this with you.
In this episode I talk about my experience living through March with the intention of “ease” on my mind and my experience creating a one of a kind tribute piece honoring the experience.

“HOW AM I HERE, AGAIN?!”
When you put so much time into being introspective and doing the deep work and “rising above” only to be catapulted back into that old familiar feeling of "^@$#!@#$%^$&(!!!"
But what if we are so busy being hard on ourselves under the noble ruse of expecting “better” that we are missing our WIN? Missing our opportunity to acknowledge our growth?
What if we are totally missing the point?
I recorded this specific episode this week because I needed to talk through this sneaky crap myself. I officially feel refreshed and found so much reassurance in pulling off the veil of bullying myself in the name of “self improvement".

And the most important mindset shift you can make for 2022 & beyond is in a habit you probably already do everyday: your picture taking.
And no, not the “professional” or “fine art” kind. I’m talking, the uniquely you version. The quick snapshot, “not sure why I even felt the need to take that” kind of photos.
You don’t have to identify as “the creative type” to get HUGE results from your photo taking.
The type of results that will help you feel more present in your now and create more of the life you want.
You’re already halfway there…join me in my brand new FREE masterclass as I show you why your camera (or the phone in your pocket) is the key to unlock a more purposeful vision for your life.

Megan Champion, M. Ed., is a 15-year elementary education teacher and mother to three children, including her neurodiverse son. After years of shame, guilt, and loneliness due to her child's behavioral challenges, she searched for a way to connect with other mothers raising children like hers. She couldn't find what she was looking for so she created it herself in the form of her podcast On The Hard Days & her group membership Mothers Together.
We talk about how having the right support is a powerful way to unlock your confidence, how important it is to raise your hand even when you don't have the answers, and how there's beauty in the contrast of reality vs expectation.

Time can be so elusive in general. As a mother, we are in a special kind of constant maelstrom of all the things. You think you are seeing your special moments but oftentimes we are caught in the dreaded "can't see the forest through the trees". Your mundane, exhausting everyday all of a sudden vanishes and you are left mourning the rose colored memories. How do we muster the energy to maintain our awareness of these special moments before they're gone forever?
Michelle McKay comes on to chat about what she felt when she was surprised by an old photo of her breastfeeding her baby- the only photograph that was haphazardly captured of that beautiful and intimate nursing season for her.
Michelle is a mama, lover, and memory catcher from Geelong, Australia.
As well as making it her mission to create a lasting, artful and meaningful record of this beautiful ordinary life, Michelle runs a thriving in-home photography business, and is an online educator of all things in-home photography and memory catching.
She hosts a community many thousands strong world wide, creates editing presets, runs courses on the art of photography, and has taught at acclaimed retreats such as the much loved Milky Way Newborn Retreat.
Michelle’s artistic style is inspired by a combination of lifestyle, documentary, and photojournalistic approaches, and she is a devout believer that you should always always always take the picture.

Positive Psychology Practitioner & Women's Authenticity Advocate Stephanie Florez felt somewhat unsatisfied with the photographs left behind of her dear grandmother. With such a rich and deep bond that they shared, there was so much more that she wanted to encapsulate. Stephanie created a tribute piece with my heirloom album template that incorporated more of her grandmother's powerful essence through meaningful keepsakes. She speaks on what that experience felt like for her and how living authentically helps enrich our every day.

In this fun conversation with my friend and practical wellness expert Jenny Sanchez, we talk about what it means to deny yourself pleasures and choices in life in the name of the all or nothing attitudes we can have around seemingly positive goals.
"Can I be present and also take the photo?" Why yes, I believe you can.

In this episode, I share a gallery of photos with my bff. She's a self proclaimed, type A, always thinking 24 steps ahead type- but she was surprised when the photos I delivered- ones that she thought she didn't want or need- quickly became her most favorite family photos yet.
Can you relate?

Where my moms at?
Are you obsessed with your kids but also sick of talking about motherhood? But also kinda need to talk about motherhood? If I had to choose one word to define my motherhood experience, it would be dichotomy. Just extremes all the time.
I can't separate myself from my role as a mother but I also don't want to be constantly cocooned in it within everything I do. Sometimes I just want to be me. Can you relate?
It's been a tough week and I recorded this episode in bed and unfiltered. I hope, if nothing else, this episode helps you feel less alone.

What if we are trying sooooo hard to capture something so sweet but we're actually missing the real stuff? What if we didn't realize that until it was too late?
What if I told you I fell in love because someone sharpened my pencil? (Yes that's real and no it's not code for something weird. It's in the episode.)
More often than not, our transformations happen in very specific, tiny, quiet moments. The milestone event is a celebration but to me it feels like a period at the end of a sentence. The real stuff... the good stuff... happens before and after. Are we capturing those?

I forgot how old I turned. I bought my own sucky birthday cake, but my son liked it so it was still the best.
Is that what it's about now? Is my birthday just a fringe benefit for my kid's cake intake? If i didn't have kids would I still be losing excitement for this day?
I recorded this episode the night of my birthday. It felt like the perfect way to end my completely unremarkable day. I did boring stuff, sad stuff, sweet stuff. Thought about some good stuff, and ended my day delusional, tired, & happy.
Can you relate?
