Pastor Mike Weaver considers the first of the letters to each of the angles of the seven churches, namely Ephesus. A church that in many respects seems to have things sorted in their faith, able to live as followers of Jesus Christ even though surrounded by society on all sides who live in ways contrary to the way of the Lord. Then comes the 'but'... Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
Pastor Mike challenges you today, that if you know Jesus to re-examine your walk with the Lord and ask if it is was when you first encountered Him. And if you don't know Jesus, then to consider following Him today and know a love beyond all loves.
(Correction - in the sermon Pastor Mike makes reference to the goddess Artemis (Greek) / Diana (Roman) as the goddess of fertility and sexuality, when actually she was of 'the hunt, nature, childbirth and children and was personified as goddess of the moon. Pastor Mike Weaver introduces a new series in the first three chapters of Revelation, a book not taught upon much in the church today. With much confusing imagery and some seeking to set dates (and then having to re-evaluate) for Christ's return, this text from the Lord Jesus to John and ultimately to the church is extraordinary. But it is very much a book for today, revealing Jesus in the present and future.

As we have pondered the question through John’s letter - how can I be sure of my faith, John draws to the end of his letter with a statement of the threefold Christian certainty. A Christian is free from the power of sin, a Christian is on the side of God against the world and a Christian is someone who ‘knows’ God and is known by God can be certain of His promises because of this relationship. We will explore each of these statements in this week’s sermon.

'What is Love anyway' sang Howard Jones in the 1980s, before going to ask 'does anybody love anybody anyway?'
It's an eternal question and one so much has been written about, sung about, moves made about - yet in our wordl and sociaty love is often assocated with romance and feeling.
Yet love in the Bible is so much more that romantic or family love. It is sacrificial. Listen to the podcast as Pastor Mike considers the words of today's reading from 1John, which include 3.v16... This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

What is the dividing line between Christian's and the rest of the world?
Jesus, simply Jesus Christ.

Rev. Mike Weaver, Senior Pastor at MC starts the new post-Easter series in the first letter of John. This series is about assurance of faith, basically understanding how you can know your faith in Christ Jesus is real. John addresses his readers to help them know how they are saved and so allay concerns or worry of believers that they 'haven't done enough', or 'don't deserve the forgiveness' that Jesus freely offer by grace.
In this first week Pastor Mike revelas the importance of understanding sin and obedience and the relationship between them that ultimately leads for believers in Christ Jesus to the joy of an assured faith. It's about yoking oneself to Jesus for your walk in life, for without that assurance is not possible. Oh, and listen out for the wonderful story from the ministry of the 16th century 'prince of preachers', Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

Easter Sunday - the day the Lord Jesus rose from the dead. Not just spiritually but bodily resurrection! This is rthe day that changed world events forever and is at the heart of Christian faith. Without understanding of or belief in the bodily resurrection of Jesus there is no Christian faith.
Beyond Christ's resurrection is the Kingdom come, the time in which we currently live and reside, but there is also the time to come. Pastor Mike considers not only the resurrection, but also the second coming of Christ, making it clear that Christians are not only people living in the light of Christ now, but expectant of His glory to come again.

This week, Pastor Mike Weave notes that Hosea, though seemingly a book filled with much condemnation and judgement, is actually a book portraying the deeply compassionate love fo God. God is not God without both his righteous love and righteous judgement, for the two go together and are the attributes of who God is.
So the question for the listener is what will your response be to both the love of God and the anger of God toward all sin? Will it be continued rebellion or repentance? It's a question all are required to answer at some point in life.

The verdict is in and Israel has been found guilty despite the warnings given to them by the prophet Hosea to repent of their spiritual idolatry and Baal worship. This week the sentence is read, they will be removed from the Promised Land, and God will no longer be their God. It is a lesson for all who choose to try and live the double life of holding the kingdom of God and his promises with one hand, whilst holding onto the world and its promises in the other. Joshua faced the same dilemma when the children of Israel looked to idols for their security and well-being instead of God. ‘Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15) We face the same choice today.

Lee considered what we sow in life, and therefore what we reap. There is much that we do as individuals, as community, and nations and as the human race, and for all actions there are consequences. There are life consequences in the here and now, but so too are there eternal questions.
Those eternal consequences are in the power of the Lord our God. Are we ready to face whatever they may be for each of us today?

Pastor Mike journeys further into Hosea consideringthe consequences of unfaithfulness, of a lack of love, and worst of all no knowledge of God. The consequences for individuals, nations and yes, the church are destruction, demolition and ultimately devastation of the good intentions of God for His creation. In life, there is much tragedy. Anyone who has lived will know this truism, that we cannot live life without disappointment and difficulty, but for the Christian, the question is can the tragedy of life result from God’s love? In this podcast, Pastor Mike Weaver looks at chapter 2 of Hosea, where it appears the wrath of God is upon the unfaithful wife and unfaithful Israel, but the rebuke is not out of anger but rather love. Like a parent wants the best for their child, this sometimes results in the need for discipline so that the child would return to the correct ways of living. Hosea has much to say to individuals and the church, asking us ultimately, ‘Where do we put our trust and our love’? Is it in the Lord?

There is no greater book in the Bible that reveals the heart of God, than that of Hosea. The prophet begins by revealing to us how hurt and angry God is with his people. He is torn between wanting to punish them for their unfaithfulness and restoring them because of his great love for them. God shows his great love for his people, comparing himself to a husband whose wife has committed adultery, using this image as a metaphor for the covenant between God and Israel. Ultimately it is a book of hope, and God can be trusted to win back the love of his people despite a less than promising start.

What traditions do you and your family celebrate around the season of Advent and Christmas? And what becomes the focus of this season? Rev. With so much bad news going on in the world, there is a real temptation to escape. Have fun and celebrate all that Christmas has to offer at this time of year, some respite, at least for a while. But this deal also comes with a great deal of stress and financial burdens many can't afford, which follow them into the following year.

What matters to you most as Christmas starts to creep up on you. The season of Advent for Christians is a time of preparation to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Christ child. But of course it is a time for many other preparations too - present for gift giving and receiving, organising holiday breaks, work parties and family visiting.

Wives and Husbands. Women and Men. How we get alongand are joined in marriage matters to God, for marriage is a God-ordained union. Marriage is a mystery that reveals the relationship between the people of God and their bridegroom, in other words between the church and Jesus Christ.

Looking where we walk is a very sensible thing to do. When you step out of your home into the world, walking somewhere with intention, whether to the car to head out to work or to visit friends, whether to walk the dog or just walk for the sheer sake of it, you walk with intention and you better watch your step so you don't trip, fall or worse.

In today’s podcast, Pastor Mike explores the relationship between the church, who are the people of God, and the world. The call to the Christian is to be LIGHT, but that entails a change in the heart and actions of the believer, that they are different to the world. Different in understanding and behaviours relating to sexual activity, the language we use and views on covetousness that lead to greed. Mike argues that if you accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour, as all Christians must, then you are required to walk in the light. There is no other way.

Unity is something we hope for and desire as a church but is it possible with all our denominations and differences? God desires and blesses unity in the body but it does not mean uniformity. We are all uniquely made to reflect his image and each of us is given gifts with which to function and serve as part of the body of Christ. Paul reminds us in this passage from Ephesians 4: 'We areall ONE BODY, we have the same Spirit, and we have been called to the same glorious future. There is only one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and there is only one God and Father, who is over us all and in us all and living through us all.' What is possible with Prayer? Do Christians today doubt the viability and the power of prayer to affect change. 'Generous giving!!' Does the thought excite you or make you shudder, not just being asked to give but to give generously, sacrificially. There arehallmarks of a generous giver and the apostle Paul outlines them for us as he, addresses the believers in Corinth. In a nutshell it is the overflow of a heartcompletely surrendered to the Lord, and as such giving is a joy, a gift, a grace to be embraced not shied away from for no one gave more than Jesus, butthe believers in Macedonia surprised us all they gave despite being hard pressed and poor - how come? They knew the grace of forgiveness, the joy of salvation, the love of God filling their hearts they were rich in all the ways that really matter. Can we learn and be encouraged to rethink how we approach giving from their example?'

Pastor Mike Weaver tackles the subject of discipline in week four of the sermon series on Matthew 18. It is about confronting sin in the church and how Christians are to understand the need to come under and oversee discipline in the church. The teaching of Jesus on this is amazing, so much so that if we truly followed his teaching there would be an immediate end to the sin of gossiping and all that entails within the church. Of course, the church will never be a place full of perfect people, but is always a gathering of the broken and sinners – it’s how we live and serve together in that mix of different people and personalities that characterizes who we are in Christ.

Pastor Mike's Christmas morning message from the Gospel of Luke 2.v8-20 with the visit of the shepherds to Mary, Joseph and the newly born Jesus, shows how uncertainty and interruptions to life can be peaceful with the assurance of Christ at your heart.

In the forth Sunday in Advent 2023 Pastor Mike Weaver asks what it looks like to 'wait' in todays busy world. Zechariah's song (or the Benedictus) see the elation and praise Zechariah has when he is able to speak after nine months of enforced silence. In his waiting he seems to have understood the revelation God has given to him, and he is eager to bring all praise and glory to God.
Where do we find such times of silecne today, in order we can hear from God? We are called to wait. Wait in silence, in prayer, in worship. To wait before the throne of God.

Advent is the season or countdown to Christmas. You know that holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus. It’s not about presents, though of course we make it about that. Neither is it about spending to much, worrying about getting things just so, or avoiding the family squabbles (just make up instead, it’s better that way). Christmas is all about Jesus – the man who is God incarnate. The divine made human, and in the opening of Matthew Gospel in a long list of names we find that the plan of Christmas was a long time in the making. A promise God made long ago to a man named Abraham.

Pastor Mike Weaver returns to close out the series following Jesus’ discourse (Chapter 10 of Matthew’s Gospel) to the apostles before they head out on mission. The opening words from today's scripture ‘Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to Earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword’ are challenging and maybe don’t fit with many people’s understanding of Jesus.
Yet, Jesus is plain when he says there will be division on his account. Division in families and society. It is all about commitment and who the Christian will put first. The 12 disciples were chosen, called and sent out by Jesus to partner him in the call to Mission to preach and reveal 'the kingdom of God is near.' They would grow in faith as disciples/learners to become apostles 'sent out ones'. They were given authority to do this work including miracles, they were appointed and equipped, and they were not superstars but ordinary men serving an extraordinary God called to share in this wonderful outreach to the children of Israel first and foremost. They needed to understand the mission to stay focused, humble and dependent. This mission would be the forerunner to 'The Great Commission' and they would learn a great deal. What can we learn from these pioneers of mission about our call to share the good news of the kingdom of God in our generation?

The penultimate week in the oracles of Malachi challenge the listener or reader to ‘not rob God’ but instead to return to God. The original hearers of Malachi’s words continued to not engage well with the LORD, almost blind to their indifference to the relationship God desires for them. How many of us have been worn down with questioning children who ask ' why' over and over and over again looking to a parent to give them answers. Childish inquisitiveness and immaturity can be excused if rather wearying but what excuse is there for the children of Israel who stubbornly resist their heavenly Father's correction and discipline, whilst being reminded of the covenant he has made with them and ask him over and over 'but how?' This week they take it a step further in their maligning of God's character and there is a sigh from heaven, 'You have wearied the Lord with your words, saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord, and he is pleased with them" - WHERE IS THE GOD OF JUSTICE!" Do they really want justice, do they not realise justice begins with the people of God. By pointing to others to blame they forget there are three fingers pointing back at themselves. We may want justice when it comes to the errors of others but when a mirror is turned upon ourselves revealing our sin, our mistakes, its not justice we cry out for but mercy. Do you want justice or mercy this is what we going to think about in this weeks podcast.

‘I have loved you’. Four words that permeate the book of Malachi. “I have loved you,” says the Lord.
What a wonderful message. In times of darkness, in time of trouble, in times of joy and delight, to know the Lord’s love is a wonderful thing. And the thing about it is that the Lord’s love in unchanging. When we doubt His love it is not God’s love for His people that changes, but rather our view of Him.

A new sermon series ‘Sin and Grace in Close Proximity – A Response to Jesus’ takes a look at the closing words of the Old Testament from the prophet Malachi. The concluding sermon of the series TRINITY pulls together the threads of what, for those in Christ, should be evident in their lives. FRUIT. The result of a life in God, the Father, Son and Spirit is to be fruitful for the Kingdom of God. Pastor Mike speaks of the freedom find in Christ, but which is a freedom that should not lead one to live in the flesh as St. Paul puts it, but rather to live in the Spirit. This is a challenge to the world and especially to Christians, for our tendency is toward sin, yet through the relationship with God through Jesus and in the power of Holy Spirit, the Christian who is alive to God is one who is daily becoming more Christlike, and bearing holy fruit.

All of us at one time or another will experience trouble heartache and loss and this is when we need the comfort of the Holy Spirit who says ' I cannot shield you from this, you will have to go through it, and you may feel some pain. But I will be with you all the way.' As he was preparing his disciples for leaving them as he would soon be returning to his Heavenly Father Jesus promised his anxious and frightened disciples that he would give them another Counsellor who would remain with them forever. A Counsellor and Comforter for every generation not just for these early church believers. He said the world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him for he lives with you and will be in you.' As we explore further who the Holy Spirit is in our series on the Trinity we will draw closer to discover one of the most important relationships we will ever have as Christians with the one who comes alongside us to help in times of trouble, to discover someone who feels for us and is with us to give us strength who simply says, "Here's my comfort, you can get by with this.'

As we get closer to the end of St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, Paul focuses on partnership[. Although that word is not used, the love of each other – from the church in Macedonia and Achaia (northern-southern Greece) to the Church in Jerusalem was evident, and it is the serving of one another, financially, with gifts of service and in prayer, that the community of Christians are partners in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What does it mean for us to be a community of faith who overflow with hope in the face of so many challenges?'

In the second half of chapter 14 of St. Paul’s letter to the Romans, he continues to discuss issues of food, and whether eating ‘kosher’ or ‘non-kosher’ for Christians was the way to go, and quite how to steer a path for those disagreeing on the way forward, in matters that are not central to knowing Jesus as your saviour and Lord. Although the context for this writing was the 1st century Roman church, it still speaks into the lives of the church today and quite what we think church should be. Listen as Pastor Mike’s exposition of God’s word brings a challenge to the church today to not hide our faith, or to trap others by it, but rather offer it as a path to liberation through salvation.

The command to love underpins the ethic of being a Christian, so how does it play out in life today. Often not well. Pastor Mike wonders if the question we should ask as we walk through the journey of our lives is not ‘can I do this’, but rather ‘should I do this’? Following Jesus isn’t just about living in His love but living our His love towards others in a moral ethic not always aligned top contemporary society, but it is what Christians are called to do.

There is a fine balance to love. Although love is kind and overlooks the faults of others, it does not compromise the truth or take a soft view of sin. “Dear Sirs, In regard to your question ‘What is wrong with this world,’ I am, faithfully yours, G. K. Chesterton.”
DO you find yourself easily angered? What about holding onto the wrongs done to you – do you store them and bear a grudge? Pastor Mike Weaver considers these ‘destructive’ traits in light of the imperative to love.

In other words — God’s love in me (Romans 5:5) does not act rudely or selfishly.
The theme of the sermon is love is not proud, and the effects of pride being stirred up in a fellowship causing division and how Jesus dealt with it by his example of submission and humility despite him being Lord which he asks his disciples to follow. Those who would be great must be the servant of all, and no servant is greater than his Master. Doing the right thing with the right attitude.
Ronnie Aitken, and elder at GMNC brings God's word alive, seeing into what can sometimes be hearts full of envy and jealously, and at other times boastful. Traits that always look in on ourselves with values never found in love, rather than sacrificial love that looks outward.
In the book of Ruth we see human kindness in the actions of the three protagonists - Naomi, Ruth and Boaz, but God's kindness outshine all. Pastor Mike Weaver takes an overview of the book of Ruth to understand the ultimate love that leads to godly kindness.
