Sisterhood is a podcast where empowered women empower other women. We need each other now more than ever. We go through so many things in our lives and we so often feel alone in our experience. When we share our stories, we realize how much we are connected and that we were never alone. That is what I want you to feel when you listen. With sisterhood, we feel true connection, we feel supported, and we listen to understand. The meaningful and necessary conversations that Laurie-ann Sheldrick, and her guests share will help you to fully step into your true most authentic self.
In this share, I’m talking about what can happen when one or more of your basic needs isn't met in childhood and how to break any behavioural habits that are not supporting your mental and emotional well-being or your relationships.
I had friends over one afternoon and we got into a discussion about how the way we grew up impacted who we are and how we behave in certain situations today.
This conversation was a great reminder that no matter what your life was like growing up, it does inform who you are today. Good or bad, it made you, YOU.

We have been taught to measure our worth by how much we earn. And because of this, so many of us feel unworthy, even when we meet a certain level of financial success. That's because self worth is an inside job. In this episode I am talking about self-worth from the perspective of no longer defining your self worth by what you earn. I explore why we develop these beliefs, changing the way we communicate with each other and ourselves, and how to create a new value system that supports yours (and each others) mental and emotional health.

In this solo episode, I’m talking about some steps you can begin to take to communicate your needs.
Whatever it is that you are not saying out loud, doesn’t go away just because you are not voicing it. It festers and grows and gains momentum. All of a sudden you are having an argument that doesn’t even have anything to do with the original thing that was bothering you. You end up saying ALL THE THINGS, a lot you wish you could take back. Now the defences are really up and you are probably left feeling unsupported, unseen, unheard and resentful.
So let's try to do it differently so that yours (and their) needs are getting met.
People don't know what they don't know, which makes communicating your needs so important.

Don’t have the mental, emotional, and physical bandwidth to deal with even the smallest thing some days? You are not alone! Burnout these days is the talk of the town. We are pushing ourselves to the limit to do and be ALL the things, even the things we don’t want to do or be.
Jen Jones and I talk about how hard is it to set boundaries with ourselves and with the people in our lives especially with the people that we love so dearly. We spend so much time not wanting to disappoint anyone that we end up disappointing ourselves.
Jen also shares how to protect our energy and give ourselves energy audits. Not spiritual or universal energy, but the energy within ourselves. Our emotional, mental and physical energy so that we can really begin to pay attention where we're burning out and where we don't have the mental, emotional and physical bandwidth to do the things that we want to do, like enjoy our life.
We also talk about:
The pros and cons of being a high achiever and how to recognize both.
Expectations we have on ourselves, learn growing up, and take on from others.
Why it is so important to allow yourself to change your mind.
What is teaching her kids today that she wished she had learned growing up.
And so much more!

There have probably been times in your life when you felt unsafe and insecure. In those experiences, your fight or flight kicks into high gear and fear can take over your entire body.
Soul embodiment and business mentor Meghan Weir joins the Sisterhood conversation to share tools and practices that help us to feel safe.
Sometimes you don’t know how to name what you are feeling and Meghan’s embodiment practices can help you to release the emotions that you don’t know your body is holding on to.
This is a conversation about feeling safe. Feeling safe with your emotions. Feeling safe with your body. Feeling safe with being your authentic self. Feeling safe with taking off the mask you have been wearing that provided you with protection, but are not serving you. And regulating your nervous system when you don’t feel safe and secure.

A practice for your when your thoughts turn to worry is something I think most of us can use.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, I catch myself in a spiral of future-tripping, which is usually triggered by worry. One worried thought creates another worried thought on top of another…and now I’m down the rabbit hole.
Like many of us, I have had to learn many tools to help me when I’m in this spiral, and one thing that has been supportive lately is to be unattached from the future outcome of what I’m worrying about.
I have needed this reminder so much lately, as I find my thoughts turning towards worry more often than I would like. So this practice is just as much for me as it is for you.

“The spiritual part of being human is feeling all the feels. It’s not unspiritual to have emotions.”
If you feel like your emotions are constantly being bypassed, or that you are a pressure cooker with emotions that are needing to be released, this episode will be so supportive. I wanted to have a conversation about toxic positivity, so I brought in the expert.
Shulamit Ber Levtov is The Entrepreneurs Therapist. The Law of Attraction, or rather, the manifestation coaching industry, sells you the promise that you can have whatever you want, and all you have to do is follow their one sized fits all practice. In this conversation I want to bring awareness to some of the things in the manifestation coaching industry that may be making you feel like a failure, or making you feel like you are doing something wrong, or like you are going mad hatter mad trying to figure it out because it is so vague or doesn’t even make any sense. You are not doing anything wrong!
If you have been confused about manifestation, or the practices and concepts have made you feel like you would never get it, this conversation is for you. I talk about the darker side of the manifestation industry, what to look out for, how your mindset and emotions are not pushing away the things you want, and what you can start doing today to work towards the things you desire.

How we don’t have to settle for just being and doing one thing when it brings us joy.
Asking for what you want instead of staying in the struggle.
The gift of giving and receiving.
Shifting the way we treat each other as women.
The practice of learning how to trust yourself.
The importance of connecting, collaborating and supporting, rather than competing.
Changing our belief that we have to do everything alone.

Continuing on from my conversation in episode 48, I wanted to keep exploring anger.
Anger is such a powerful driver, especially when it is wrapped up in our deepest empathy. I think we all know anger pretty well. We can feel it in our bodies before we even react. There is nothing wrong with getting angry. I mean, welcome to being a human being. You’re going to get angry. But do you want to act on it? That is what we are going to explore in this podcast episode.
I share:
How my recent anger was empathy in disguise.
A practice to help you feel, process and understand your anger.
What you can do when someone is directing anger towards you.
Learning to express your anger in a positive way.

In this meaningful conversation, I sat down with Tricia Nelson. Tricia is an internationally acclaimed author, transformational TEDx speaker and Emotional Eating Expert.
This is a conversation that I believe many women can relate to.
Tricia shares how her own struggles with emotional eating began in early childhood, where she attempted to cope with the stresses of life and emotional pain by overeating and other destructive behaviours. And how that led her to committing the last three decades, to helping thousands of people heal their relationship with food.
In this conversation you will learn that it was never about food, it was and always has been about your emotions. Something so many of us grow up not talking about, including not being taught coping mechanisms to help us during challenging times. Which is why this conversation is so important.
She also shares:
How restricting your eating is not the solution.
An assessment to help you determine if you are an emotional eater.
Why 98% of diets fail.
Changing your relationship with yourself and with food.
Getting to the real root of emotional eating.
And so much more!
“As an emotional eater. the quickest way to gain weight is to try to lose the weight. One of the reasons why diets fail is because they take away your one coping mechanism and gives you no tools as a replacement.”

Anger can be good fuel when focused on a worthy cause, or used to direct our energy towards making positive change. But what I’m seeing lately, is anger towards being different, acting differently, believing in different things, behaving differently, or thinking differently. We can’t even have a different opinion lately without collective anger being directed towards us.
In this conversation I am sharing what my own experience about this has been, how feeling so angry resulted in taking a month long hiatus, how I have been redirecting my anger, and what the impact of constantly being angry can have on us mentally, emotionally, attitudinally, and physically. As well as how it makes us treat each other.
This is not a stop being angry in 10 steps share. This is an open conversation where we explore what finding things to constantly be pissed off about means to us. Being okay that we might have more questions than answers right now. At the end, I share an anger self-assessment that can help you to contemplate and integrate this topic even deeper.

In this meaningful conversation, I sat down with Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Christine MacMillan.
If you didn’t grow up having conversations about pelvic heath, vaginal health, menstrual health, breast health, hormonal health, this conversation is for you.
Christine and I both agree that there is nothing about any of these topics that are or should be embarrassing or cause women any shame.
Women are unique, our bodies are unique and that is also true when it comes to our pelvic organs.
Christine Shares:
What pelvic health means and why it matters.
What pelvic physiotherapy is and how you know when you need it.
What your pelvic organs are.
What pelvic floor conditions to watch out for.
The many misperceptions we grow up learning.
Christine Says: “Normalizing disfunction in your body needs to become something of the past.”

After a little hiatus, I'm back with Season 3 and a solo podcast. In this episode I'm talking about my most recent experience of taking a month long hiatus from social media, from creating new content and from my company. I share what I have learned, how the pandemic impacted who I am, the way I want to do business and live my life. I also share what I was experiencing mentally and emotionally that led me to needing to take a break and how giving myself the support I needed showed me that who I am and what I do today is enough - no matter what I do.
My intention with today's share is to give you hope. Especially if you are feeling confused, frustrated and hopeless. I want you to know, even if you don't trust it yet, that there is a light at the end of every dark tunnel.

If you cringe at just the idea of talking about money, this conversation with Money Coach, Virginia Baker Woolf is a great place to change your money story and feel safe talking about money and managing money.

In this conversation, I'm joined by Ann Hince. Ann is sharing her experience with the therapeutic technique called EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique and how it helped her heal from trauma and PTSD. If you feel like your emotions have full control over your life right now, this conversation is for you.
When Ann was 19, she woke one morning to find her mother dead in her bathroom. Twenty years later the tears from that trauma were still just under the surface. When Ann discovered EFT, it finally helped her to release these emotions - but she went further and can now put her awareness inside her body - what she calls Insight, or inward-sight. Ann has found that seeking out our truth, what we truly feel, and accepting those feelings, is the key to inner peace.
We talk about:
What EFT is and why it works.
How to step back and allowing ourselves to feel our feelings without our feelings controlling us.
She shares the importance of understanding the layers of feelings, including naming them, and where they are in your body.
How our emotions and our entire body is a signal, and thinking about what signal we are passing on emotionally, for example, through social media before we even process our own emotions around it.
And so much more!
Favourite takeaway: You don’t have to look for the positive when you are processing the negative emotion. Once you process the negative emotion and get to the healing of that, the positive emotions with just naturally come in because it is actually our truest state.

We all have parts of ourselves that we don't want others to see, so we keep them hidden. In this conversation, I'm sharing how I have experienced my shadow self and have learned how to have a healthy relationship with the parts of me that I used to feel shame or embarrassment around.
Getting to know those shadow aspects of yourself doesn't have to be a daunting experience. This practice must be done without judgement or shame. We all have parts of ourselves that we want to keep hidden, or that we are unaware are unconsciously not being supportive towards ourselves.
I hope this episode will help you have a more loving relationship with your shadow self because all parts of what makes you, YOU, even the parts that you want to keep in the shadows, needs love.

The practices will help you to connect with your body and observe your feelings from the present state.

In this share, I’m talking about my experience of becoming a life coach, what it was like going through the certification process, and how I’ve connected with, grown and learned so much about coaching since starting my practice in 2012.
Coaching isn’t a trend. It is a privilege and a responsibility. People are opening up their hearts and minds, their fears and limiting beliefs, their challenges…their life. And don’t believe that should be trendy or taken advantage of.
I also share:
Why it is important to let clients go when you know you cannot serve them and how to do it safely and in a supportive way.
The importance of connecting with other coaches we specialize in areas that you don’t so that you can truly serve your clients.
And how to separate your clients needs from your business goals, so that again your client is being served and supported.

We should have no shame, or be shamed for our body or how we look. Which is why I think normalizing talking about our bodies is so important. There is no one sized fits all.
In this episode, I am sharing a bit of my body image story and how it has transformed over the years - from my eating disorder in high school to now being in my forties.
For many of us, myself included, our relationship with our body is constantly changing. Which makes sense because our bodies are always changing. From adolescence to adulthood, we experience changes that are normal, but can often feeling confusing and creates emotional and mental discomfort because we believe that it is abnormal.
Whether you have gained weight, losing weight, getting older and entering a new decade, or just experiencing body changes where you are having to get to know, or get comfortable with your new body, this share is for anyone experiencing body changes, or wants to accept their body. Wherever you are on your body journey, I hope this will provide you with some relief that you are not alone.

What one person admires in you, another will judge. You can accept that this is simply their opinion, not truth, and continue being yourself, or you can believe the judger and it becomes a limiting belief. The first is the most emotionally and mentally freeing option. Not to say that it is easy to get there, but it is the kindest and most compassionate option we can choose for ourselves.
In this episode, I'm talking about something I've been exploring for the past 15 months - JUDGEMENT. How we process the judgements we receive, the underlying reason of why we judge and the human nature behind both.

This conversation with Alice Karolina taught me things I didn’t even know I didn’t know. It was a learning and unlearning experience for me. We went so much deeper than ethical branding, which on its own is already a deep conversation. Before I knew it, we had been speaking for over 2 hours!
Meaningful conversations like these are exactly what the Sisterhood podcast represents.
We talk about:
Ethical marketing, and the impact of honest and authentic branding.
The dark side of the online world and how we can all make major shifts by doing things differently.
Ethics, cultural diversity, equality, bringing values into our business, consumerism and the messy middle influencers don't talk about.
Being a responsible thought leader and taking ownership in our businesses and what we buy.
The importance of staying in difficult conversations, finding, connecting and using your authentic voice.
And so much more!
My #1 takeaway from Alice: Make sure the gaps you are filling in your life and in your business are being filled with the right things.

In this conversation, I sat down to talk to Energy Healer Candice Harsh of Purely Elemental. There is an emotional pulse that we feel sometimes, and we can’t explain it. It is that feeling you get when you walk into a room and say, “you can cut the tension in here with a knife.” You don’t know what is going on, but you feel it. Candice explains that this is energy and she breaks it all down for us.
Including:
What it was like growing up with intuitive and energetic gifts.
Learning to process what we are experiencing energetically when it doesn't feel good.
How to protect ourselves from energy that isn’t ours.
How energy attaches more to some people because they are more sensitive to it.
Turning up the volume of our own intuition and how we can always be supporting ourselves.

Imagine that your sympathetic nervous system acts as though it is literally sympathetic to your needs and emotional state. Sort of like the way you worry over your loved ones safety. When you get triggered, and the stress, or anxiety or whatever emotion you are feeling starts to gain momentum, it turns on the alarm bells because it wants to protect you. When this happens, you want to fight, flight or freeze so you can get yourself to safety. So often though, we are not actually in real danger. To support yourself mentally and emotionally when you are either being triggered by the past or stressing about a future worry, this practice is a wonderful tool to help you calm your nervous system and turn down the alarm bells so that you can reconnect yourself back to the present moment.

In this conversation I sat down with Lorraine Driscoll. Lorraine is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist who helps children to overcome learning and behaviour challenges. Her mission is to empower women with the knowledge to support brain-body healing by restoring the basic practices that were once routine wisdom to maintaining the optimal health of the family.
We talk about:
Being open with your children and supporting their own unique gifts and personality
Raising emotionally intelligent children
Empowering women
Lorraine also answers questions that parents asked about their children who are experiencing learning challenges, including one beautiful question from a mom who was about to have her first baby and wanted to know what she could do to support her child right from birth.

In this conversation, I'm talking to my best friend Jolene Watson about making friends as an adult, healing the female friendship wound, setting healthy friendship boundaries, allowing your friends space to grow and so much more!
If you struggled with female friendships, this is a beautiful sisterhood conversation that will support and empower you.

Welcome to Sisterhood!
We cannot be powerful women if we do not support those who are being or feeling disempowered.
The purpose of Sisterhood is to feel supported and be supportive, without judgment, creating a deep connection with other women who will say, “Me too! Let’s learn, grow and be, do and have all that we desire together. There is enough to go around for all of us!”
