The good news? There are things we can do about it.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • What burnout really is and how to identify the symptoms
  • How to prioritize delegation and mentorship as a leader

Lady, I have a question for you…

What do you want your legacy to be?

After going through a series of thought-provoking questions, it will help you better understand how to truly excel and dominate in your field.

• Why you’ve chosen this path for yourself

• The power of defining your legacy

Today on the PowHER House Podcast, we are replaying one of our top listener favorites from the archives about transitioning from one role to another.

The experience is a challenging experience for many. Regardless if it's due to layoff, termination or your personal choice to leave a toxic environment – I know what you’re feeling.

It’s a period where you put your feet on the ground and feel like there’s nothing there; like our power is lost in the mix.

So, in typical fashion, I want to remind you to approach this transition by commanding your power; to reach deep down and believe in yourself the way I do.

To see yourself as the powerful, confident executive that you are - who deserves so much.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why you may be experiencing the transitional period
  • Commanding the mindset that you’re ready to move on
  • Building your dream position
  • Using networking to your advantage

Are you tired of leaving money on the table?

When I was in corporate, I accepted a job offer for a six-figure salary, not realizing that my predecessor was making 26% more for the same exact role.

After seeing this, I realized that I had been conditioned by society to be so grateful for the first offer and not to negotiate, leading me to leaving a significant amount of money on the table.

Through my experience, I later realized that the majority of job offers extended to men were countered, while only about 0.8% of offers extended to women were.

That’s why in this new episode of the PowHER House podcast, we are continuing our negotiation series and talking through the toxic beliefs and societal conditioning that hinder women's negotiating efforts, while also sharing strategies on how to overcome them.

I am talking through how to command your power, embrace a love of money and success, and hire subject matter experts to improve your negotiating skills and overall worth. Make sure to tune in, grab your workbook with the link below and listen to the other episodes in the series if you haven’t already!

You’ll learn:

  • How to negotiate like a white dude
  • The culture of paying sticker price in business
  • How to overcome salary negotiation challenges as a woman
  • Embracing financial success as women
  • The art of salary negotiation

Lady, I have to ask you something… What do you think you deserve?

I have struggled with anxiety for most of my adult life and I really saw that showing up when I was in corporate.

But at the heart of it all, it boiled down to my underlying feelings. My nagging, intrusive thoughts, big secret worries about being financially secure, thoughts of not being good enough, or the thought of not being deserving of the position that I was in, were holding me back.

So once I understood that root cause, that forced me to dig deep and find out where this all was coming from.

I discovered that these were subliminal and subconscious - well, sometimes conscious - messages that we've been taught as women from the day we are born and then over and over every day for the rest of our lives.

That’s why in this second episode of our negotiation series, we are going over the root cause of why so many women don’t negotiate and how we can overcome it by understanding how deserving we are of having what we want. All we have to do is stop letting the lies define us, and step out of the box so that we can live in our PowHER.

You’ll learn:

  • What deservingness really means
  • The secret shame that impacts self-worth
  • How to overcome rejection
  • The steps to boldly negotiating

  • Why so many women struggle with negotiating in general

In my 16 years in corporate, I realized that I needed to embrace the fact that I’m not for everyone.

One of my biggest pieces of advice is to stop carrying the baggage of everything the world has told you to be into your career, life, and personal relationships. I did that early on and guess what? I messed up a lot because I wasn’t showing up as my authentic self.

So in this final episode in our PowHER of You series, we are talking about the PowHer of Your Authentic Voice with our special guest, Emma Wainer, so that you can stop watering yourself down, be who you are and use your authentic voice.

Emma is a corporate speaker coach with a mission of helping female thought leaders share their expertise with authenticity and grace so that they gain the recognition and respect they deserve on local and global stages. Having worked in the public and private sectors, in corporate and in start-ups, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help women raise their visibility and credibility at work.

She has also developed and delivered corporate training programs on Advanced Presentation Skills for IT Professionals, Presence and Impact for Women, Storytelling for Business, Conflict Resolution, Embodied Leadership, Interview Skills, Voice for Business, as well as coaching speakers for TEDx Events.

You'll Learn:

  • About the fear of speaking up and how to overcome it
  • What holds many women back in business
  • The difference between being an expert vs. accepting yourself as an expert
  • The power of using your authentic voice
  • How to build your self-esteem and confidence

I have to tell you ladies, change is always hard. Even if you’re leaving a toxic position, climbing the ladder into a more executive role, or scaling your business, it’s still challenging to leave behind the known and venture into the unknown.

We tend to resist big change — even if it’s GOOD change — because as humans, we love staying in comfort zones. We love security and consistency.

But these aren’t ingredients for massive success in our personal and professional lives. Instead, sometimes you just have to make the choice that will change the game for you.

In this continuation of our PowHER of You series, our guest Roxanne Chaput is joining us today to talk about how you can create everything you desire in life with the power of choice. With her experiences and expertise you will learn that you are truly limitless.

Roxanne is a Globally recognized Luminary, Inspirer, Celestial Guide, Celestial and Generational Earth Shaman, the Creator of The Illumination Retreat TM and the Host of Soul to Soul with Roxanne. She has successfully guided thousands by teaching them to alchemize and harmonize their internal medicines and experiences so that they can create everything they desire in their life.

You'll Learn:

  • The near death experience that led Roxanne to questioning her authenticity in her life
  • The importance of being authentic to yourself and what you’re made of
  • Why we feel like we have to hide so many aspects of ourselves in order to fit in
  • Why it’s important to understand that our spiritual essence is the exact same thing as our business entrepreneurial executive essence
  • How we can be in vibrational alignment to receive everything that we want in life

Imposter syndrome is no more than a construct that society has created to make women feel as though something is wrong with them.

And the reason I feel this way is, first and foremost, because of how we refer to it as a syndrome; a “diagnosis” made to keep us feeling inadequate and powerless.

Today, I want to flip the script and provide you with three steps to rid yourself of the idea of having a syndrome and get back to who you are at your core.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The “symptoms” of imposter syndrome and what they REALLY mean
  • Acknowledging the fear or shame, and allowing yourself to feel it
  • Setting aside time every day for a Power Hour
  • Taking intentional action toward what we are doing
  • Landing in your power and kicking imposter syndrome to the curb

We all saw in the news where Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s now former Prime Minister, had stepped down — and how the media absolutely raked her over the coals; some things you would never hear regarding a male politician.

Through this and other recent events in my life, I started to take inventory and find out what’s going on.

Today, I wanted to dive into three steps to talk to you about the concept of what it really costs when you decide to take a non-traditional path. Because what I’ve noticed is that it forces us women to second guess ourselves; to not trust our intuition, and feel like we’re in a room we don’t belong.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Traditional versus non-traditional paths that many women choose to take
  • Surrounding ourselves with women who have taken/are on the same path as us
  • Identifying the conviction in your heart that calls you to do something
  • Examining your personal board of directors
  • Having the emotional resilience to be a trailblazing woman in society

In setting up PowHER this last year and learning what it’s going to take to grow… I realized very quickly just how lost I was in overanalyzing all of my decisions.

That there was NO way I’d be able to have an impact within my programs AND company if I kept up with this agony.

All this to say, it reminded me of the concept I used when I was in corporate to understand how not trusting my gut — and falling into the rabbit hole of overanalyzing — caused the mistakes I made.

So today, I want to provide you with context around how we’re overanalyzing, why we do it and tools you need to start trusting your intuition.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Taking action from a place of fear
  • Society’s influence on how we think and believe
  • The science behind our stomach as our second brain
  • Three strategies for you to learn how to trust your gut
  • Building confidence + emotional resilience

Here’s a not-so-fun fact for you: Only 2% of us women are CEOs. Better yet, only 13% of us are in C-level executive positions.

Now, think of how quick we are to pass judgment on other women who are in these positions.

Think of how we’re reiterating the false narrative that the ONLY way we can achieve success or power is through competing against one another.

Think of how we don’t trust a woman who has made it.

Our instincts have GOT to change, ladies. Women need to learn how to support one another and work together in order to become the leaders our societies desperately need.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • There is no limited space for women at the top
  • Your judgment of other women and its projection of insecurities
  • Challenging women to collaborate versus compete
  • Building a legacy and paving way for other women

Ladies – stop talking shit to yourself!

As women we are absolutely terrible with this; no matter what it is, if we DON’T do something perfectly… we’re the first people to tear ourselves apart.

And for what?! We don’t deserve it. In fact, if we talked to anyone else the way we do to ourselves, we would not be walking around unscathed.

So today, I want you to begin to see yourself the way everyone else around you does by giving you three strategies that’ll help you stop degrading yourself.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Getting out of your own way through self-awareness
  • Envisioning yourself speaking to another person this way
  • Building out your personal board of directors

We’ve all had someone who has helped us along the way that we feel gratitude towards.

But one thing I don’t want you to do is continue down a rabbit hole of being gracious for every little thing – it will do nothing but water down your self-worth, make you feel as though everything that has happened is by luck…

And it’s going to cost you SO much throughout your career.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Downplaying your success
  • False narratives around money
  • The idea of having to overwork yourself
  • Not having to be grateful to others for where you’re at

It’s a natural impulse to want to present ourselves in the best light…

But SO much research tells us that by filtering out who we are to fit the mold is harmful to our mental health; we’re forcing ourselves to hide our authentic selves from the world.

Continuing in this behavior and thinking that it can lead you to better opportunities will never work.

In fact, it will only riddle you with imposter syndrome, and bring you into situations that don’t align with who you are at your core.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Playing a part you’ve thought you needed to play
  • Owning and dominating in your space
  • Being unapologetically you
  • Stop making excuses for who you are
  • Unnecessary apologies and how to navigate those situations

Transitioning from one role to another is a challenging experience for many.

In this episode, we discuss

  • Why you may be experiencing the transitional period
  • Commanding the mindset that you’re ready to move on
  • Building your dream position
  • Using networking to your advantage
  • Listening to your intuition

Ashley Brundage is the Founder and President of Empowering Differences, an organization founded on the 10 Empowering Actions she used to advance her career in less than five years.

While seeking employment at a major financial institution, she overcame harassment, discrimination, and homelessness to empower her differences. Not just her status as a transgender woman, but missing the chance to go to college due to her transition.

Gender, Education, Ability, and Religion played key parts in her journey of empowerment; starting her second career as a part-time teller, she rose to National Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion. She captured this 4-step process of using empowerment to cultivate change in her book and online leadership course, both called Empowering Differences.

Today, she joins me to discuss:

  • Empowerment and its relationship with those who exist with one of your differences
  • How to live an authentic life that translates into the workplace
  • Being smart about who you align yourself with in the corporate space

Women’s Equality Day was on August 26th and it got me thinking…

The entire idea of the words ‘equal’ and ‘women’ being in the same sentence is absurd.

To honor the day, I wanted to give the PowHER House listeners the latest statistics on our inequality, and ways we can stop crying from the sidelines and actually do something about it.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How we’ve become complacent to women’s inequality and basic human rights
  • Ways we can claim our power at home AND in the workplace
  • A special offer for my PowHER House listeners to learn more about closing the gender pay gap

We’ve all made the assumption that being burned out is being completely depleted; anxiety-ridden. And, to a point… we’re not wrong.

But I believe many of us have the wrong idea as to the all-encompassing meaning of burnout.

It’s not just physical - it’s emotional and mental exhaustion, too. And if you’re feeling as though you’re facing the symptoms of burnout, chances are high that you are.

The good news? There are things we can do about it.

In today's episode, we discuss:

  • What burnout really is and how to identify the symptoms
  • How to prioritize delegation and mentorship as a leader
  • Three strategies to avoid burnout from happening so often

The ‘Women Supporting Women’ movement is only about three or four years old; for years, women have banded together to fight for equality on all fronts, and now, all of a sudden, only a small percentage of women have decided that we are more powerful together.

When I reflect on my own experiences with who I call “Mean Girls”, I notice that we’ve all become well-equipped from a young age that we are not on the same team. And it’s time we change the narrative.

In this episode we discuss:

  • Why women are choosing to compete versus collaborate with one another
  • How to help in making sure that every woman’s voice is heard
  • Giving constructive, authentic feedback to help other woman soar

“If women could close the gender pay gap themselves, there’s no way we’d still be making 88 cents to every man’s dollar.”

While I would love to agree with you, the problem is so many women simply DON’T know how to do it. And why would they if they’ve never been taught how?

In this episode we discuss:

  • Lessons learned from working in male-dominated industries for 20+ years
  • The statistics behind women choosing not to negotiate their salaries

  • The four strategies necessary in closing your own gender pay gap
