A gift podcast for the members of the World Class Rookies Fantasy Football League! Each week Comissioner David Odell and his co-host Cody Stauffer will roast and toast the performance of the league from the week prior. Together they will recap matchups, critique roster moves, offer unsolicited (but always helpful) advice, and respond to league submitted questions and opinions. Episodes will include previews of the upcoming week, plus David and Cody will go head-to-head on weekly predictions. Knowing them, they'll also go toe-to-toe over hot takes as well.
Welcome to week four! In this episode, David and Cody briefly recap the action from week three, discussing who at the top is and legit contender, and who is a legit PRETENDER.
The two turn their attention to the slate of games for week four, making some predictions about wins and how some key players will perform.
Our hosts also discuss the need to NOT give up just yet on the year, but some teams MIGHT want to start giving up on some players. They also suggest a few trade ideas and close the episode by making a few predictions about the college games on tap for the week.
Make sure you offer your own predicitions in the text thread or over on the polo stream, and as always, thanks for listening!
Don't look now but it's A THIRD EPISODE IN A ROW Y'ALL! This week our intrepid hosts David and Cody take a look back at the week 2 action in a SURPRISING week of upsets in real football. They discuss what surprises them so far in the fantasy season and how injuries and waiver wire pickups are already drastically shaping the season.
The two turn to the week ahead, examing each and every matchup for the week. David brings back an old classion, asking Cody to make some predicitions. Cody picks each and every matchup AND chooses a Hard Pass or a Full Glass for a key player on each team.
We encourage you to make your OWN predictions and submit them on the Polo thread OR the text string. As always, thank you so much for listening!
TWO IN A ROW?! Could it be the start of a streak? We'll see!
In this episode, our intelligent and dynamic duo share their thoughts on the new format of the dynasty league, namely that teams have TWO matchups every week, not just one. The discussion turns to David pleading his case for some concessions, considering that the Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers MAY have tampered with the outcomes by not fully disclosing Christian McCaffrey's status on Friday or Saturday.
The two share their thoughts on week 1's matchups-- what surprised them, who does and who doesn't need to panic, and make some adjustments to their preseason predictions.
Please weigh in with YOUR thoughts sparked by the episode, either on the Polo stream or the text thread. As always, thanks for listening!
David and Cody are BACK in the World Class Weekly saddle, shooting off opinions about the NEW FANTASY SEASON!
Our hosts offer up a QUICK recap of last season (who here even remembers that David won the championship?), give some excuses about not recording in the form of some life updates, and then offer some seriously valuable insight on how to play the new DYNASTY format for the league. For you inexperienced Dynasty ballers out there, you wan to make use of their sage advice!
The two also give some very quick and shallow analysis of each team's roster, and even make some predictions about the season (the two are in RARE complete agreement on this!)
As always, thanks for tuning in! Please leave feedback, questions, and opinions in the comments, on the text thread, or in the Polo stream.
On this episode Cody is home with his family and David has to learn how to edit and download and generally navigate a universe of tech. Shane Moore AKA 'The Temp' guest hosts and they briefly look at the week 1 results, discuss why power rankings are impossible and pick next weeks matchups. Spoiler, no one believes in Billy "Dallas D" Riggins.
Thanks for listening and hopefully the audio is ok. If not, blame Cody.
On this episode, Cody and David do a little draft recap! They discuss what made the draft experience so bland this year, and share their thoughts on biggest reaches and surprises of the 2023 World Class Rookie draft.
The two co-hosts adjust their playoff predictions based on draft, choosing six teams (not allowed to pick their own) to make the playoffs, plus one team each that at this moment they think will be in the title game. David and Cody also name one team who has no shot as things stand right now.
After you listen, share your thoughts on the polo thread OR in text, plus submit questions and podcast fodder as well! Thanks for listening.
Join former comissioner David Odell and cohost Cody Stauffer as they analyze and debate the keeper strategies and selections of all World Class Rookie teams.
Each weighs in on who they think will make the playoffs based SOLELY on keepers, plus provide a bit of insight on how the draft might go.
Speaking of the draft, the cohosts encourage you to weigh in on how the league can encourage 100 percent in-person, live draft attendance. Let us know what might get YOU to attend.
AND let us know how you plan to make this year's draft a little more fun-- what will you be eating? Will you be on the zoom? Share your thoughts!
David and Cody get together FINALLY to talk a little bit about last season's top two teams-- the champion, Big City Mike and and runner-up The Sneaky Petes. We take a look at what made them so succesful this season-- trades, pickups, and breaks along the way. Then we turn our attention to keepers for next season, offering our best guesses on what they WILL do, and offering what we think they SHOULD do as far as keepers go.
As always, share your thoughts on the episode in the polo thread OR the text thread-- and we'll see you again (hopefully sooner than the last time!)
Well, well, well. Looky what we have here! It's a NEW EPISODE!
In this one, Comissioner David and Co-Host Cody give a little recap of the championship week AND the season. We discuss the weird finish to the season; we talk about MVPs and surprises; and we discuss the possibility of changes to playoff format, draft orders, and more.
We make a promise to be more consistent next season in the publishing of new episodes, but we also have plans for some offseason episodes as well. We encourage you to submit ideas and of course to accept our invitations to join us as you share a bit more about this last season and your hopes for the next one.
Congratulations to Big City Mike for the title, to Annie for her incredible season and second place finish (and for being the first Cederwall to make it into the championship), and to the whole league for sticking with it through all the ups, downs, and drama! As always, discuss the show in Marco Polo or on the text thread. Thanks for listening!
Notice: Audio quality is not great. Bad data connection and WiFi. But please stick with it! It's a good one!
On this surprise bonus episode, David and Cody are joined by former Husky legend, Tahj Bomar. Cody gives them a game to play-- they hear the NFL Stats of players from EITHER Oregon or Washington, and they have to decide: Ducky or Puppy? It was a close game, but you have to listen to find out who won.
Both get realistic about their teams chances in the big rivalry matchup on Saturday, and discuss a few bits and pieces about the fantasy league as well (Tahj tries to play RESPECT by Aretha Franklin in response to Cody and David FINALLY giving him props for his team-- it didn't work, but message received).
As always, leave your comments, thoughts, and questions about the podcast in the Polos OR in the text thread, and as always-- thanks for listening!
Cody and David somehow manage to get a SECOND episode out this week! Despite Cody being on the road in Southern Idaho, visiting with family for a busy weekend (trying to cram Thanksgiving and Christmas all together in one trip), our insightful duo were able to connect and get in a little week 10 preview action. PLEASE BE WARNED: the audio quality is really rough-- Cody was using a combination of WiFi and cellular data, switching back and forth between two weak signals. There might be a few distortions and a drop or two, but you'll live.
David and Cody tackle each matchup, offering some predictions-- including a bold one from Cody, who picks his team to upset David, thanks to some retro performances by newly acquired Tom Brady and from embattled former fantasy stud Jonathan Taylor.
During the course of making picks, Cody and David also discuss some trades that went down, what teams are on the rise, and which teams have no chance after this week.
As always, share your questions, thoughts, and opinions in the text thread or the (nearly extinct) polo group, and thanks for listening!
On this epsiode, you will notice that one of the hosts is far more enthusiastic then the other throughout the entire epsiode-- and especially way more joyful about the results of week 9.
The two breakdown every matchup, taking a look at a surprise or two from each contest. They discuss a few key pickups over the last two weeks that had a major impact (especially for Texas Forever), and touch on a few historic performances.
There's a little talk about playoffs, and some discussion about who has moved from being cosidered a pretender to a full-blown contender (The Catfishers, Sneaky Petes, and Team Tucker all get a lot of love). We also share what hope, if any, might be left in the remaining games for teams not destined for the playoffs. this year.
The episode ends without any real closure on what might happen tomorrow for an epsiode-- one host is on the road all day today and won't be able to record, so David is hoping to get Tahj on and something recorded for Cody to put together. We'll see! As always, please comment on the episode or send in any questions in the text thread or via polo. Thanks for listening!
It's been a long time-- we should have left you (left you) without a podcast to listen to!
But here we are, back again-- and in this epsiode David and Cody break down the week 8 matchups that just happened. Did we learn anything new? Who is on the rise, and who is declining? Who took a bad beat, and who was lucky to walk away from the week 8 scoring fest with a win?
Next up, our cohosts break down the blockbuster trade between Brad and Cody-- basically Travis Kelce for Ja'marr Chase and Jonathan Taylor (more or less). David weighs in as commish with some objective insight and why the trade isn't truly unbalanced, and who assumes all the risk.
Finally our intrepid duo take a look at the games coming up in week 9, briefly previewing each contest and making some predictions.
Give it a listen, and share your thoughts via text or in the Polos. Thanks for listening!
David and Cody discuss the implications of everything that happened in week six, including dissecting the dire trend of low scoring fantasy games, a reflection of the low amount of points scored in the real world NFL.
After that brief intro, Cody and David go matchup by matchup, looking at some surprising outcomes, discussing specific player performance, and how each manager must be feeling at this point in the season.
The two examine just how narrow the difference is between the teams in places three through nine, and how one game can rearrange the standings in dramatic fashion. David and Cody offer a brief take on Tahj's Power Ranking, with even David admitting how confusing it was for him to both lose AND have under 70 points (lowest in the league for the week)... and still climb a spot in the rankings (but he WILL take it).
David closes out the episode with an apology, a metaphor, and an explanation for The Great Mariner Text Quake.
Make sure to share your thoughts, opinions, and questions via text or polo, and thanks for listening!
On this VERY SPECIAL episode, David and Cody welcome a surprise TEMPORARY (hint hint) guest host, who starts the episode off with a little discussion about college football-- namely the BIG showdown between Tennessee and Alabama this weekend.
Next the trio QUICKLY work their way through all of the league matchups for the week, each offering their prediciton on who will prevail, while Cody and The Temp guest (hint hint) offer Full Glass/Hard Pass takes on each of the contests.
As always, share your opinions on the episode in the text thread or Polo, and send us some ideas or questions as well. Thank you so much for listening!
Our intrepid cohosts kick off the episode talking a little about the Mariners and their Postseason chances, then discuss how the huge difference being 3-2 is versus being 2-3 after entering week 5 sitting at 2-2.
After winning the first three weeks of their head-to-head league pick 'em, Cody has lost two weeks in a row to David-- this week, Cody picked 5 out of 6 correctly, while David went a perfect 6 for 6. David details what Cody needs to do for losing the pick 'em this week, and while we're on the topic: Isn't David a handsome and charming man? A prolific hunter; with exquisite taste in spirits and a VAST breadth of knowledge? We're truly blessed to have him as a commissioner, a friend, and most importanly as a mentor and role model.
Next the two walk through the matchups and discuss a few key players that made a difference for their teams, and what some might need to do to right the ship. We finish up by talking about who still has a decent shot at making the playoffs. Make sure you share your thoughts, opinions, and questions in the text thread or via Polo, and thanks for listening!
On this episode David reveals the results of a brief poll he took of the league: Which 4-0 teams have the best chance of making the championship, and which undefeated team has the best chance of winning it all? And: Which of the teams currently ranks 7-12 have the best shot at making the playoffs? Listen to find out if Cody can guess what the league thinks, and if his own answers lineup with the rest of the league.
David and Cody also introduce a new segment they hope becomes a a regular: Rayce Asks a Question! Find out what Rayce wants to know, and hear the responses from your esteemed hosts.
The two take a look at the movement in Tahj's Power Rankings, then disect the BUSY week of trading (and the show was recorded before the biggest trade of the week, so you won't hear our thoughts on That One-- so big it has it's own name). David reveals who was the winner of last week's Full-Glass/Hard Pass contest between Loden and Cody, then the quickly work their way through the slate of matchups.
Take a listen, share your thoughts, send in your questions via text/email/polo. and thanks for listening!
Commissioner David kicks off the episode by sharing some historical context for the year we are having, including the tidbit that the league has NEVER had three teams begin 4-0. He also points out that two of the three undefeated teams have historically low points being scored against them-- can their streak be sustainable?
Also, David FINALLY wins a week over Cody in league pick 'em, so he unveils the new team name that Cody will be saddled with for the week, plus an explanation of the name. After that, the two go match by match and talk about what was learned and what a few teams can do to improve.
Send in your questions for the next podcast episode (or leave some comments on this one) via text, polo, or telegraph (if you can find one). Thanks for listening!
On today's episode, David and Cody are joined by the manager of the 4-0 BILLY RIGGINS squad, Jake Loden. They kick off the show with just a little baseball chatter- at the time of the recording the Mariners were on the verge of clinching a postseason wild card spot, while Cody's Blue Jays had already earned their ticket in, so they quickly discuss the likelihood of the two facing each other in the opening round.
After the baseball talk, the three tackle the week four matchups in the World Class Rookies League. All three weigh in on winners and loser, while David tossed some scenarios at Jake and Cody who could choose to agree with a "Full Glass," or disagree with a "Hard Pass." Along the way Cody explains the meaning behind David's new team name, "Loden's Green Boxer Briefs," they talk about the new manager in the league a bit, answer some league submitted questions, plus discuss which 4-0 teams are the best at that level and rank the 0-3 teams as well. Be sure to listen while you're grilling up some gameday grub on Saturday, then weigh in with your opinions through text or polo. Thanks for listening!
Buckle up, folks this is a long one! We kick off the episode by talking about the recent drama that rattled the league. Comissioner David offers his perspective of what went down, and explains the actions he took as commissioner. Please be warned: David was 3BD (three bourbons deep, Loden), so some explicit language was incorporated. David ends by posing the question: why do some of us (himself included) take this silly little game so seriously?
Then we close the time by running through the results of all the week three matchups and dicuss what team is legit at this point, and what teams are a mirage. Take a listen, share your reactions in text and polo, and thanks for listening!
Comissioner David kicks off the episode by laying out the INCREDIBLY SIMPLE DETAILS (THAT ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO GET CONFUSED BY) about a proposal: should the league change its payout structure from winner takes all to a payout structure in which the winner receives two-thirds of the pot and the second place finisher takes home one-third? OR should the league stay status quo? David shares some frustration about the response so far-- but you have until KICKOFF TONIGHT to vote.
Next David and Cody tackle each and every matchup-- David offers up some BUY or SELL scenarios related to each contest and Cody gets to choose. They close out the episode by analyzing some of the trade chatter and try to figure out if anything is actually going to happen.
Be sure to offer up your comments about the episode via text or polo, and make sure to vote on the payout structure proposal. Thanks for listening!
David and Cody fearlessly analyze the matchups from week 2-- which teams surprised? Which teams were duds? Which players didn't follow through from week 1 star peformances? And did the Saturday blockbuster trade between the team known affectionately as "Sean" and Big Honor make any difference? Check out the whip cracking insight these two provide on the games from the week that was.
Cody and David also discuss a couple of waiver wire pickups that proved crucial; discuss the weekly head-to-head pick-em between the hosts (which Cody is running away with); and close with a brief discussion about the perils of taking "early victory laps" when so much of the season is still left to play.
After you listen, share your thoughts on the Polo thread or through text; and be sure to listen to tomorrow's episode, when David and Cody give a preview of week 3 and discuss which 2-0 teams are REALLY contenders and which are mere mirages, plus more. Thanks for listening!
Comissioner David Odell is BACK for Episode 6! Still feeling under the weather, but BACK nonetheless. Together David and Cody recap the week one games, highlighting some of the biggest surprises and discussing the Game of the Week between Big Slippy Mike and Lewey's Lineup. The two share some words of wisdom for the half of the league that suffered opening week losses, analyze the waiver wire activity, then take a look at some intriguing games for week two.
At the end of the episode, David and Cody reveal some surprising news about the success of the podcast, so play all the way through and chime in on polo or text with some of your reactions to the episode. Thanks for listening!
Cody welcomes Jacob back for one more round of guest co-hosting, and they tackle the FINAL division: Can't Lose (BILLY RIGGINS, Sean, The Sneaky Petes, and Big Honor). Each team gets a best-case/worst-case scenario, and Jacob continues to laud the genius behind his big trade. In addtion, Cody explains the origins of his team's name (Big Honor), and Jacob offers a prayer that Sean Collins will win so the team name on the trophy reads simply: Sean.
You don't want to miss the insider discussion about the band of misfits that comprise the hot messiest, most entertaining, and most spirited division in the league. Share your thoughts on the division in a polo or text, and offer up some questions for David and Cody. Thanks for listening!
Cody is joined by substitute co-host Jacob Loden once again, and the two talk about the Clear Eyes division: The Melonheads, White RHINOS, The Catfishers, and Texas Forever-- each gets the best-case, worst-case scenario treatment. Although the guest co-host DID spend about twice as much time trying to talk up the genius of his trade with The Catfishers as he spent talking about The Catfishers team itself, we eventually did cover the entire division.
Tucked into this episode is an interesting question: what SHOULD the rivalry between BILLY RIGGINS and The Melonheads be called? We ask you, dear listeners, to weigh in with your suggestions!
Give the episode a spin on your platform of choice, and text or polo your thoughts, questions, or castigations (Cody might have bought a new thesaurus). Thanks for listening!
This week we're doing it a little bit differently-- we'll be releasing THREE episodes this week! They will be shorter, and each one will focus on one specific division in the World Class Rookies league. In addtion, the three episodes this week will have a surprise guest co-host while our beloved commissioner takes a much needed break.
This episode focuses on the Full Hearts division, arguably the best division top to bottom in the league. This dvisions features THREE multiple time winning champions: Big Slippy, Lewey's Lineup, and Maximum Effort. And the division has the biggest wildcard in the league with our newest team, Team Tucker.
Our hosts present a best-case scenario, worst-case scenario, and offer a big question for some of the teams.
Give it a spin, weigh in on the big questions presented by out guest co-host, and send in your hot takes and questions. Thanks for listening!
This week we kick off with a bit of, um... PERSONAL information from the commissioner. David offers his version about what threatened to derail the draft completely, shares who can be trusted in a lifeboat, and discusses the menu at the in-person festivities.
Cody and David weigh in on the best and worst drafts and who has the best overall groups at each position, followed by an update on their predictions for the playoffs now that the draft is complete.
The two discuss the flurry of transactions already underway, including the FIRST trade of the year: DK Metcalf for Tony Pollard.
David closes out with a rant that MIGHT indicate he isn't the best tipper in the world, but it all comes down to principles in the end.
Don't forget to message or text your questions, comments, or hot takes, and as always: thanks for listening!
Comissioner David Odell is a giver, and this is one of his gifts to the World Class Rookies: a weekly podcast reviewing the previous week's action, complete with roasts and toasts; and a preview of the week to come, including predictions and side bets with co-host Cody Stauffer. There will be some interviews with coaches from the league, plus some helpful advice for a few different teams each week.
This first episode is a brief intro to the podcast, followed by a review of keeper selections. David and Cody talk about who the best three keepers were; who the WORST three keepers were; and who had the best overall approach.
The cohosts preview the draft a bit-- predicting what mistakes will be made and by whom; and then offer up their overall predictions for the WCR Fantasy League AND the real life NFL.
The tail end of the episode features a surprise guest, interviewed by David. The guest reveals which of our league owners is facing some legal troubles and what repercussions it will hold for said owner.
Give it a listen!
