Any major dude will tell you how great Kellogg's cards were in the 1970's. Lesser known is the sets that featured some of the greatest players of the 20th century, in full color: The 1972 Kellogg's All-Time Great set. Smarter people than I will tell you it was a direct copy of the 1970 Rold Gold Pretzels set of 1970. Imagine my surprise when I bought the wrong set for cheaper than I was supposed to.

The 70's were grrrreat! The 50's depicted on 70's cards even greaterer. TCMA was the little engine that kept trying. Their magnus opus, perhaps, was the 1979 Stars of the 50's set. They did whiff with a few key misses, but all an all a fine effort.

Freedom and independence means different things to different people in different situations. Curt Flood was Patriot #1 in war of Athletes v Owners. I somehow draw the line between Flood's struggle and the happy-go-lucky/everything's fine traded sets produced by Topps in the 1970s.

Free collectibles in a (relatively) nearly free era of long stretching lead-filled gasoline. Sunoco billed them as " NFL Action '72". Who'd of thought going to the gas station would be so rewarding? This set was more confusing than my Ancestry.com results. Lawsuits, error cards, Year of issue ambiguity. Plus Maury Wills in a trench coat. I try to unwrap this semi-gorgeous set. Perhaps I should've left it clothed.
We're back with the shovel and digging deep into the sets. Dad facts comes in heavy with more than one Tricky Dick reference and the greatest band ever releases their first of four straight masterpieces. Hockey rocked in the '70s, and the drunk uncles had the haircuts to prove it.

What is not to like about 1974? Topps was churning out some top shelf stuff at this point. No Dad Facts but tons of baseball goings on, clarification of the Boston-Buffalo-Jabbar shenanigans and a tribute to James Rodney Richard. Throw in some humble bragging about vintage auction winnings and you got yourself an hour plus of monotone monotony.

Lucky 13! NBA and ABA...sitting in a tree...1971-72 Topps brought the two leagues together in one set. Sport and culture was changing rapidly. This set epitomized the color of the seventies yet still had a foot planted in the days of old.
Drinking Game Included: See how many times your host gets tripped up by Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul Jabbar. More unforgivable is confusing the Buffalo Braves with the Boston Braves. Enjoy but drink responsibly.

Possibly the most elegant baseball card set ever produced is the 1971 Topps issue. Beautifully frustrating to collect. Gorgeous photography and tasteful design plus they were amazingly able to fit the entire history of the Milwaukee Brewers on the back of the team card ! Plus, the D.B.Cooper case is finally solved

2021 MLB All Star Break sparks the memory of the most epic All Star home run ever. Before he was Mr October, he was "Buck", or "Jax". Before he pulled the shorts down on a trio or Dodgers pitchers he sent a Dock Ellis pitch into infinity (and beyond). 50 years on from a legend being born. Cheers too you, Reginald Martinez Jackson.

Eight rhymes with "great". There have been some great #8's: Yogi, Cal Jr., Pops, and Joe Morgan. The greatest of all time, for me, was Carl Michael Yastrzemski. Yaz enjoyed one of the longest and most prolific careers in the Major Leagues. His cards were aplenty, his smiles not so much. Join me as we go back and celebrate his cards and career.

Today, the NBA is King. March Madness rakes in billions. Both entities go to where they are with the help of two guys NOT featured in their rookie years sets: Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. We close out the decade by putting the 1979-80 Topps Basketball set under the microscope. We also say goodbye to NBA greats Walt Frazier, Rick Barry, and Pete Maravich.

That Seventies Card Show takes a look back at the 1976 Topps Baseball Base and Traded sets. As a youth, the Host collected this set from wax packs. As an adult with disposable income he purchased the complete set at thee 1991 National in Anaheim. As a middle-aged man he reminisces about the year 1976 with Dad Facts and useless trivia.
