Ko Yeh is a member of the Karen (pronounced Kah-wren) community who are originally from Myanmar, but was born in a refugee camp in Thailand due to his parents fleeing war. Ko Yeh talks about coming to Australia, how he wound up in firstly Wickliffe and then Ararat and the community supports and challenges for people in communities such as the Karen people across our regions.

This week on we are joined by Simone O'Brien who tells her story of surviving an attack by a former partner that came very close to killing her. Simone was struck up to 50 times in the head by a baseball bat, was given a 3% chance of surviving. Simone tells us what happened, the red flags that she did and didn't see, how the kindness and bravery of her children, neighbours and paramedics saved her life and her recovery.
Simone also talks about the work she now does as an advocate for domestic violence survivors and the wider community and how she bounced back stronger and more positive than ever.

This week we speak with the co-winner of the Northern Grampians Shire Council Young Citizen of the Year award Charlie.
Charlie is a young volunteer at Grampians Community Health and is part of both the Grampians Youth Events team and the Rainbow Alliance program.

On this weeks show we're joined by Julie Scanlon who is an Integrated Care Worker and part of the Older Australian Intiative that Grampians Community Health are running across the Grampians/Wimmera area. Julie discusses the issues of isolation that have been amplified during the past few years due to the COVID pandemic, how this has exacerbated existing mental health conditions, made more older people isolated and lonely and the difficulty of dealing with grief in a pandemic world. We also discuss ways that people like Julie are helping older people reconnect with their communities.

Nichole speaks candidly about her past as an ice addict, what she saw and went through, her journey to sobriety and her new passion, helping others and their families who are suffering from methamphetamine addiction by starting The Raewill Project, to support those people and their families looking for help as a person with lived experience of addiction.

I'm joined by Kaye and this week we discuss in depth why people stay or have so much difficulty fleeing family violence and the effect that can have on children. We also discuss mens behaviour change programs and why it's so important for good men to speak out on issues around family violence, respect and equality.

As we begin the 16 Days of Activism and we turn a spotlight on to putting a stop to violence against women and children, we are joined by Dawn who has over 20 years experience in the family violence field in Australia and the UK. We speak about the alarming statistics, the barriers that can be faced by people who are faced with family violence and the many forms family violence can take. A tough subject to talk about but one we need to be talking about.

Catching up this week with Kieran Ryan who is the Head of Corporate Partnerships at Movember. Kieran is a Grampians local from Stawell who joined the Movember cause after the loss of two close friends to suicide and decided that he wanted to do more to make sure it never happened to anyone else. We talk mental health, prostate and testicular cancer, the Movember movemnet and what it means and of course some tips on fashioning the upper lip hair during Movember.

With Gamblers Harm Awareness Week coming up on the 17th, we spoke with Carolyn Crawford about her lived experience with gambling addiction. Carolyn speaks candidly about how her addiction started, the road it lead her down and the major event in her life that led this grandmother to become an advocate for people with gambling issues and gambling reform.
