I've recently been thinking a lot about narcissistic supply-- that is, the things or behaviors that narcissists seek out because they make them feel good about themselves.
Narcissistic supply isn't just the people they have tethered to themselves with damaging behaviors, like gas lighting and abuse.
What if the things that a person needs in order to avoid feeling terrible about themselves (like drugs, high-risk sexual behavior, or even just excessive partying) are harmful to their life? I would say that's narcissistic supply.
I would also say it's highly likely that all of us have experienced some form of connection with someone for whom certain behaviors or relationships (or maybe even certain people) were "supply" - meaning, they made the person feel more important or powerful. And many of us who have had this happen to us can attest - it's not pleasant.
It feels awful, and we don't want more of it. But how do we break the connection? How do we get rid of it?
Most of the time that we aren't aware that it's happening-- and if we are aware, we aren't sure what to do about it.
So in this episode I talk about what narcissistic supply is and why we should be aware of

Things you didn't know about shame and being shame-based.
SHAME IS A POWERFUL EMOTION.
It can make you feel like nothing, like you're worthless, like you don't deserve anything good.
BUT GUESS WHAT? YOU'RE WRONG. SHAME IS A DESTRUCTIVE EMOTION, AND IT'S ONE THAT WE SHOULD ALL WORK TO GET RID OF.
We've all been thereโfeeling ashamed of something we did or said (or didn't do or say) because we felt like it made us look bad or not worthy of acceptance by others.
But here's the thingโshame-based thinking isn't just a problem for you; it's also a problem for your friends, family members, coworkersโฆ anyone who has ever had to deal with any kind of shame in their lives.
Shame makes us want to hide our mistakes and shortcomings instead of learning from them and moving forward in life with more confidence than ever before.
And that's exactly why I'm talking about it today: so that we can all start to move away from shame-based behaviors towards more empowering ones!

Fawning and people pleasing are two terms that seem to be used interchangeably, but are actually very different.ย

Things I didn't know that I didn't know about myself and grief. ย
One of the things that really surprised me about losing my son was how much I didn't know about myself. ย
I had never dealt with grief, so I didn't know what to expect.ย
I had no idea that some of my reactions would be completely normal and natural - but they were reactions I should have been prepared for. ย ย
And then there are the things that you didn't know that you didn't know โ the things that sneak up on you when you least expect it, and just utterly destroy you. ย ย
Just...I don't even know where to begin. How do you process that? ย

Whether you were abused as a child or as an adult, it's important to understand how your background can affect why you make decisions that are not best for you. ย ย
Women who experienced abuse in childhood and/or adulthood may not make the best decisions for their life and career because they are programmed to believe that their abusers care about them.

Here's how to tell if you are and what to do about it.
It's normal to notice that something is off when you're in an abusive relationship. It may seem like he or she doesn't care about you, but they do! Here are some signs that you are in an oppressive relationship.
If you can identify any of them, your life will be much better and your oppressor will be held responsible for his/her actions.
I know how hard it is to walk away from an abusive relationship.
I also know how difficult it is to feel empowered to end that relationship.
In this video I talk about one of the most common questions that victims of abuse or other oppressive relationships ask themselves: Does my partner care about me?
There are many signs that point towards, and against a person's love for you or anyone else. Here we will touch on the positive signs and how you can recognize if someone cares about you.
The goal is that each partner in a relationship work towards mutual respect, honesty, and fairness through active communication, not just "tying the knot" because they feel like they have to.

Inner peace is the state of being serene and untroubled, even in the midst of trouble. It's a feeling of calmness and well-being that doesn't come from external circumstances, but rather from the inside out.
Inner peace is something you may have experienced at some point in your life. Maybe it was after a long run or during a quiet night with friends. In these moments, your mind is clear and focused on what matters to you mostโand it feels amazing!
But what if you could feel like this all the time? How would that change your life?

How to cope when you are blamed for things you did not do.
Blame shifting is a common occurrence in the workplace. It also occurs in toxic relationships.
When we see blame shifting happening, it's important to remember that we are not responsible for other people's feelings or behavior.

A discussion around the power and pain of silence in narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships.ย

In this part of our 2-part series on silence, we explore the power and pain of silence in emotionally abusive relationships.ย
During this video, we will discuss the power and pain of silence.ย
Something that is so challenging for so many. It is when the words aren't enough. Silence is a form of communication as well, as it tells us many things: -Fear of saying the wrong thing -lack of understanding or empathy from our partners -silence about sexual needs being met -self-protection for our partner's refusal to show vulnerability -the ability to feel comfortable in our own skin and experience what our feelings are on a deeper levelย

I'm in a job that's not what I want to do, with people I don't want to work with, and I'm not getting anywhere with my career.
I'm in an unhappy relationship. My partner doesn't treat me well and there's no point in staying when we both know it's not working out.
But if I leave him, what then? If I don't have a home or someone else to come home to, where will I go? What will happen to me? Will my life fall apart completely?
I feel like I'm just on a merry-go-round. When will it stop so I can jump off?
