Multimedia artist & street photographer, Joyce McAndrews began Project: Co-Mingle in 2015, when she came upon a hand-painted sign in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood on a job site that read "Co-Mingle".

She thought the construction team was encouraging the community to get along during the demolition of another city block. Spoiler alert: That was not the case.

To Joyce's surprise, she gained unprecedented access to the construction site and was unconditionally welcomed into the wildly misperceived world of construction. She followed the crew for five years, documenting the rise of the Troy Block in 2018 and the Rainer Square Tower in 2020.

In this episode, Joyce McAndrews shares her story, revealing how her personal journey through trauma, loss, grief, and beauty was explored through the medium of Project: Co-Mingle.

We learn together the lessons that sometimes, we must face our greatest fears in order to create our own sense of Safety.

Celebrate the premiere of Season Two of the Deeply Funny Podcast. We'll start by taking inventory of the past year, and celebrating the highlight reel of personal growth & development.

Ya'll it's been a hell of a year. From my apartment in New York City, to a life in Seattle, WA filled with community, connection, and lots of comedy, I really can't believe how I got here. We'll talk about the challenges, obstacles, and overcoming them, and the toolkit of getting over our egos and calling on our perseverance. This year has taught me a LOT about Collaborating, and Saying YES to myself. This year has been about finding a new way of being, navigating uncertainties in finances, deeply altering my relationship I have with self, and becoming a person who increasingly lives my values.

This season has some exciting new episode's I'm ready to drop as we head into Fall, and I can't wait to share with ya'll! Make sure to subscribe to the podcast so you don't miss an episode, and leave us a review so we can continue to grow the show, if you get something out of it.

Thank you for being here, and keeping on being the reason we're doing it. I love you. Take Care. -Kristen Yaney

In September of 2020, while on vacation, Shannon Taylor had a seizure. She was diagnosed with a large non-cancerous brain tumor on her brain stem that night. She spent the next two months awaiting a particularly invasive craniotomy. The tumor was rare, the surgical approach was rare, and the complications were rare. After losing her voice and the ability to speak, Shannon authored a book titled "Sucks About Your Brain Tumor".

In today's episode, Shannon tells her story and details what she learned during her two-year recovery, such as the love of community, how free bottles of water can magically show up at your house, how unprepared she was for the recovery process, and how - in the face of experts telling her otherwise - she was determined to get her voice back.

Please keep in mind that neither Shannon nor Kristen are neurologists, and this conversation does not attempt to give medical advice in any way; however, it is a compelling conversation on the value of sharing experiences, finding hope in community even in the face of medical crisis and chronic illness (for patients and for caretakers), and how we learn to integrate what happens to us until it becomes a part of our story, but not the whole plot. If you or someone you love is going through a crisis, we hope this conversation helps you to connect, and ultimately feel less alone.

This week's episode is a beautiful, multi-generational conversation between women. We discuss fasting as a modality for the body to rest, repair, restore, and ultimately, how the body communicates. This is an important one on listening to yourself, finding support, and what happens when we PAUSE. It's from a place of rest that we can actually create. Laurie also shares with me on my 36th birthday, what she wishes she could tell her younger self, and talks about how she stopped dying her hair and let herself celebrate her body at every age.

About Out Guest: Certified coach, Laurie Lewis, has changed the lives of thousands through her coaching of Intermittent Fasting. Utilizing time-tested (and science-tested) principles, Laurie takes on individual clients as well as leading online group programs. Combining a 22-year personal study of nutrition (Health Coach Certification from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition) with her research and practice of Intermittent Fasting, Laurie supports clients and participants with a dream come true. Seven years ago, I commissioned a hand-lettered print from artist and designer Angela Hayes that reads, "Don't Quit Your Daydream". It's sat on my desk ever since. Days after resigning from my career in corporate, I invited Jason and Angela Hayes on the podcast to compare notes on the liberating feeling of handing in your notice, becoming self-employed, and what it's like to wake up alarm-clock free those first few weeks.

In this powerful conversation, Jason Hayes shares wisdom he's gained after 4 years of running a successful online business, and how he pulled together the courage to leave stability to chase his dreams. He recounts becoming TikTok famous, his head space the months leading up to his big leap, and the day he knew it was time to leave and focus full time on his E-bay re-seller business. His wife Angela shares some hilarious and inspiring words on her "free spirit" attitude towards change, collaboration in marriage and artistry, and treating life as a big experiment. Angela illustrates her own journey starting her Etsy business, how selling prints served as a vessel for her to pour light and love into the world, and how she found grace to allow that project to evolve and release as she shifted her focus onto her latest creation - starting a family.

Whether you're creative-curious, or fantasizing at your desk about doing your own thing, this conversation might just inspire you to make your own big leap. If you're looking for a sign, this is it. Sometimes a little nudge is all we need.

This week's bonus episode is an excerpt from our Creative Voice Masterclass. Grab a pen, a journal, and some crayons or markers and get comfy. We'll be doing a few guided creative exercises and meditations geared towards putting you in touch with your inner child, and coming home to yourself.  There's an opportunity at the end to create your own comic strip -- becoming your own Superhero-- and giving rise to an integrated, soulfully created version of yourself. Healing can look like many things, but today... let's have some fun with it!

I love you. I'm so proud of you. In case nobody's told you today... you're special.
Xoxo. -Kristen

In today's episode we will break down the art of living a sustainable creative life with special guests Kristin Bruce and Bria Blunt.  Kristin & Bria are the real deal, having graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City, and gone on to navigate multi-faceted careers in the arts, including fashion design, visual arts, fiber and textile design, and communications. They share their perspectives on staying grounded, and what they have learned/"unlearned" since design school in order to keep a consistent career and function in the world of business.

We talk about the balance of contentment and faith in their evolution as creative entrepreneurs- including how to pay bills, build positive mental health, stop tripping on ego, compete in a top talent pool, co-create and support each other, and not burn out along the journey. This conversation is a powerful reminder to let go of chasing our labels and desires that they may blossom and become staples, and the shape of our life can transform to be both sustainable AND creative.

In today's minisode, I go off about the power and importance of having coaches and mentors.  Who is guiding you, and helping you create significant transformation in your life?  Where are you finding like-minded people, or creative community? What do you think about investing money into coaching & spending the time and energy to develop yourself - is it worth it?  I've seen the value and impact 10-fold in my life for every dollar I've spent on coaching.  It's not about thinking we need more titles, certifications, etc. In reality, it's about finding the right person to guide you along in your journey.  So grateful we get to do this life together, ya'll.  Deeply Funny; Because your heart is both.

In episode 2, we will be discussing all things comedy with the very funny, very wise Annie Moretto. Talking with Annie is kind of like if your therapist started doing stand-up or improv, and as a bonus, she doesn't even charge a copay! We'll break down the open mic scene, why we started doing comedy, Annie's first sip of stage time, and how she actually enjoys airplane turbulence because it makes her feel so alive. On a more serious note, this episode is for you if you're looking for encouragement to try something you've always wanted to do, or looking for clues on what it is that you want to create.  As women in comedy, we explore the idea that your humor (or style, brand) may not be for everyone--but that it is still so important to JUST BE YOU!  Relax, sit back, and get ready to laugh. Enjoy, ya'll!

In today's bonus episode, we're back with wildlife photographer, Marisa Ishimatsu, to talk about how judgement is a fundamental part of art.  Understanding this allows us to welcome it, not take it personally, or compare ourselves. We also talk about getting into bird watching during the pandemic, the squirrel in my backyard named Fatty McDaddy, and our goddess and muse, writer Nora Ephron.

Welcome! In our very first episode, we will be chatting with wildlife photographer Marisa Ishimatsu about her journey in the field, and finding peace along the path. We talk about herpetology... it's not what it sounds like... reading her father's journals, and when do we get to claim the title of "photographer" or "writer".  Spoiler alert, you don't have to wait until you're published in National Geographic or the New York Times... This episode is packed with wisdom, laughs, and offers a unique lens into the field of wildlife photography, art, and stewarding the natural world.
