“IN CASE YOU’VE BEEN SLEEPING UNDER A ROCK, Colorado upset the world this past Saturday by beating #17 TCU 45-42.

There is no doubt, Coach Prime Time proved himself this Saturday in his first game as Colorado’s Head Coach and at Jackson State but are his controversial recruiting methods, team management and larger than life personality good for college football? We cover this and more on today’s episode! Let’s Do It

Welcome back to the Fit Fat Dad Podcast where it’s two dads who are kinda fit, kinda fat talking all things Faith, Family and Fitness… and let’s go ahead and add Football!

So here’s my hot take, Deion Sanders is Great for COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

But the HATERS will tell you he is :

· Egotistical and Self-promoting

· His actions conflict with his belief in Jesus Christ

· His recruiting methods and borderline illegal

· He’s not a real coach but a celebrity on the sidelines.

Let’s Address These:

· Egotistical and Self-promoting

o “Prime”, “Coach Prime”

o Set the theme of the day every day. Prays over it.

o Would his network remain close, if he only cared about himself?

o Would the #1 overall recruit in Travis Hunter choose an FCS HBCU and then turn down 1.5mil from multiple Power 5 collectives?

o So what is it? I’m going to claim it… the man reflects God. He has the Holy Spirit in him and it radiates from him.

His actions conflict with his belief in Jesus Christ

o (Haters) His arrogance and pride are a direct conflict of who Jesus was and is.

o He uses “Prime” as his platform because he’s learned that’s what make people listen. I truly believe that’s not his heart, but he uses it as a hook to share the Gospel.

§ Has “JC” on his coaches sleeve.

§ Sharing JC with these young men who have likely been exposed to bad upbringings, never had a father figure, maybe never had a chance.

§ He’s working the harvest, baby….

His recruiting methods are borderline illegal

o Leveraging Peer Network, Celebrity Network and NFL network to influence recruits to join his programs.

o Forced nearly 80 kids into the transfer portal and pulled away from other teams

§ Winning Mentality (kids have to know how to win).

§ Change the Culture, have to have buy in.. remove the doubters.
Saban did the same thing.

He’s not a real coach but a celebrity on the sidelines.

  • He already disproved this and built a great staff around him!

Notes on Colorado:

· Went 1-11 last season.

· Shedeur Sanders threw for 510, Single Game Record.

· 4 different receivers over 100 yards

· Travis Hunter played 120+ snaps, over 100 yards receiving and a critical interception.

o It’s too early to tell, but may have just launched himself into the Heisman conversation.

But how did we get here?

-On December 3, 2022 was announced Colorado’s New Head FB Coach

-73 players entered the transfer portal or were asked to leave

-Only twenty players remained from the previous 1-11 team

Hey there, tired and time-strapped dads! Are you tired of feeling like there's never enough time in the day to prioritize your fitness? Well, I've got some eye-opening statistics and practical solutions that will help you reclaim your health and crush those dad-bod stereotypes once and for all!

Introducing " How Fathers Fit Fitness in their Daily Schedules " - the ultimate guide to turning your hectic dad life into a well-oiled fitness machine.

Welcome back to the FFD Podcast, where our mission is to help others grow in their Faith, Family and Fitness.

Today, I've got something special for all the busy dads out there. I know how challenging it can be to find time for fitness, but believe me, it is possible! So, let's talk about fitting fitness into your daily routine as a father.

1. Prioritize and Plan

Last but not least, prioritize and plan your fitness routine. Schedule your workouts like you would any other appointment, and treat them with the same level of importance.
• PROTECT IT!
• Bring in Key Stakeholders for buy-in: Wife, Kids, Boss, Co-workers, etc.
• Keep it Simple: Don’t be afraid to modify.
• Don’t feel like you have to fit it in at once. Don’t be afraid to schedule multiple shorter workouts
• Set Goals: (Weights 3x/week; Walk Daily 30-60 minutes, Cardio 3x)
o Diet (Hydrate ½ bw in ounces (with salt); Protein (30-50g per meal); Greens every meal)

2. Morning Workouts

Starting your day with some exercise is an excellent way to make fitness a priority. Plus, it gives you some much-needed energy and focus for the day. By getting your workout done early, you eliminate the risk of life's unpredictability derailing your plans later on. Trust me, I've been there!

3. Make Use of Your Lunch Break

If mornings aren't your thing, consider using your lunch break to squeeze in a quick workout. Whether it's a short run, a brisk walk, or even hitting the gym for a quick session, utilizing your lunch hour is an efficient way to maintain your fitness while balancing work and dad life.

4. Invest in Home Workout Equipment

A home gym is a great way to ensure you have no excuses to skip your workout. There's no need to break the bank or take up a ton of space. Focus on versatile equipment like dumbbells, resistance bands, a yoga mat, or a jump rope. My personal favorite is my adjustable dumbbells – they occupy minimal space and provide a full-body workout!

5. Workouts with Your Kids

Incorporating your kids into your workouts is a great way to bond with them while keeping active. Go for a walk, run, play soccer, or even try a fun, kid-friendly workout video! My kids and I love doing dance sessions together. Not only is it a great way to keep fit, but it also brings tons of laughs and memories!

BONUS: Take Time to Assess and Adjust
Fitting in regular exercise into your daily schedule can be very challenging as a busy father. Taking the time to reflect on your progress is a great way to stay motivated and ensure you are on track

"The Deadlift. The purest test of Strength and Power. But is deadlifting twice your bodyweight impressive and is it worth the risk? Let the Debate begin."Today's topic is one that has been debated for years: should a man deadlift twice his bodyweight?

· Some argue it showcases dedication to training and discipline and a great way to push your strength boundaries.

· Others say it poses potential risks for injury and can lead to neglecting other aspects of fitness.

· We're here to explore both sides of the argument and help you decide for yourself.

Point 1: The History of the Deadlift

· The deadlift is a strength training exercise that involves lifting a loaded barbell or weight from the ground to a standing position. It is considered one of the most fundamental and effective exercises for developing overall strength and power.

· The origins of the deadlift can be found in ancient Greece, where it was included as one of the events in the ancient Olympic Games. The Greeks believed that physical strength was essential for military success and overall well-being, so they placed great importance on exercises like the deadlift.

· In the 19th century, the deadlift gained popularity as a competitive exercise

· One of the earliest recorded deadlift competitions took place in Germany in 1898, where strongmen showcased their strength by lifting heavy weights off the ground.

· In 1920, weightlifting was included as an official sport in the Olympic Games. The deadlift was one of the three lifts contested, along with the snatch and clean and jerk.

· Today, the deadlift continues to be an integral part of strength training programs, powerlifting competitions, and CrossFit workouts. Variations such as sumo deadlifts and Romanian deadlifts have also become popular alternatives to target specific muscle groups or accommodate individual preferences

Point 2: The Pros of Deadlifting Twice Body Weight

Now, let's take a look at the arguments in favor of deadlifting twice your body weight.

· So many people focus on the front side which can lead to weak low back, postural issues, decreased range of motion.

· Main points on why everyone should strive to deadlift twice their bodyweight in deadlift

o Burns Massive Calories

o Functional

o Improves Posture

o Grip Strength

o Improves Hip Mobility

o Builds Upper Body

o Easy to progress quickly and see GAINZ

Point 3: The Cons of Deadlifting Twice Body Weight

  1. Hard to Teach and Risk of Injury: Deadlifts can put a significant amount of stress on the lower back, which can increase the risk of injury if performed with improper form or excessive weight.

· Back Strain: Improper technique or lifting too heavy can strain the muscles and ligaments in the back, leading to pain and discomfort.

· Disc Herniation: The heavy load placed on the spine during deadlifts can potentially cause disc herniation, where the soft cushioning discs between vertebrae bulge or rupture.

  1. “Deadlift Addiction” aka Overtraining: Overtraining or inadequate recovery can lead to fatigue, decreased performance, and increased risk of injury.

  2. Joint Stress: The heavy load and repetitive nature of deadlifts can place stress on joints such as the knees and hips, potentially leading to joint pain or injury.

Wondering why you've stopped making progress in the gym despite your hard work? Well, get ready to uncover the secrets as a seasoned gym owner spills the beans! In this eye-opening episode, discover the FIVE MISTAKES that have been holding you back from losing weight, building muscle or athletic performance.

1. Not Investing Monetarily

a. Fitness- Expert Advice

b. Finding the right gym

c. Nutrition

d. Recovery

e. Sleep

2. Following a Fad:

a. Crash Diets- Extreme low-calorie diets or fad diets may promise rapid weight loss, but they often result in muscle loss, nutrient deficiencies, and a slowed metabolism. These diets are not sustainable and can lead to weight regain once normal eating patterns are resumed.

b. “Bro Science” (Reverse Carb Cycling, Anabolic Windows, eating a night makes you fat, cardio in the “fat burning zone”, Excessive Cardio and no lifting for fat loss)

c. “Detoxes and Cleanses”

d. Muscle Confusion- While it's true that varying your workouts can help prevent boredom and plateaus, there is no scientific evidence to support the idea of "muscle confusion" as a superior method for muscle growth or fat loss.

  1. Thinking you Can DO IT ALONE!

a. 2019 Study from CDC’s National Health Interview Survey revealed that only 24% of Americans Ages 18+ strength trained 2x per week.

b. A study published by Journal of Sport and Health Science revealed that of “active” individuals, 30% are consistent on a regular basis.

c. Factors such as lack of motivation, time constraints, competing priorities, and difficulty establishing a routine can contribute to the challenge of working out consistently.

4. Quick Fixes i. Spot reduction
ii. Waist Trainers
iii. “Magic” Supplements
iv. Workout programs that promise “fast results”

5. Being Influenced by Fitness Influencers

a. Unrealistic Body Standards/ Photoshop

b. Lack of Qualifications/Certifications

c. Overemphasizes Appearance

d. Lack of Individualization/ Variation

e. Misleading Marketing Tactics

Conclusion:

If you've noticed a lack of progress in the gym, it's essential to assess these five common factors. Remember to INVEST in what truly matters. Keep pushing forward and never give up on your fitness goals.

Section 1:
The Impact of Overthinking Data:
"Overthinking can have a detrimental effect on our lives, causing us to become paralyzed by indecision and doubt. This can lead to missed opportunities, decreased motivation, and even mental health issues like anxiety and depression. By constantly comparing ourselves to others and focusing on the numbers, we lose sight of what truly matters. It even causes us to QUIT before we START.

Section 2: Analytical Tools in College and Professional Sports:
"In recent years, both College and professional sports leagues like the NFL, MLB, and NBA have increasingly relied on analytics and metrics to make decisions. For example, the NFL uses tools like Next Gen Stats to track player performance, while the MLB uses Statcast to measure player movements and the NBA uses SportVU to analyze player positioning. While these tools can help teams make more informed decisions, they can also put immense pressure on young athletes to meet specific data points."

1) Video Analysis Software: This software allows coaches to break down game film into individual plays or moments that can be analyzed in detail. Coaches can use this software to identify strengths and weaknesses in players' games.

  1. Hudl: A popular choice for college and high school teams, Hudl allows coaches to analyze game footage, track player stats, and share insights with their team.
  2. Synergy Sports: Widely used in the NBA and college basketball, Synergy Sports provides in-depth video analysis and advanced statistics to help teams make data-driven decisions.

2) Wearable Technology: Wearable technology such as GPS trackers can provide coaches with data on players' speed and distance covered during games or practices.

a. Apple Watch, WHOOP

b. Catapolt vests

c. NOAH Shooting

3) Scouting Services: Coaches can also use scouting services that provide detailed reports on potential recruits. These reports can include statistics, physical measurements, and scouting notes from games and practices.

Section 3: Impact on Recruiting Processes:
"Analytics have also made their way into the recruiting process, with college and professional teams using data to evaluate potential prospects. This can lead to young athletes feeling the need to constantly improve their stats, sometimes at the expense of their passion for the sport. The focus on numbers can overshadow the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth."

Section 4: Overcoming the Pressure of Metrics:
"So, how can kids and parents overcome the pressure of not measuring up to specific data points and still excel in sports? Here are a few tips:

  1. Limit your exposure to data: Be mindful of the information you consume and set boundaries to prevent data overload.

  2. Focus on personal growth and not comparison: Encourage your child to set personal goals and celebrate their achievements, regardless of how they compare to others.

3.. Set realistic goals and WORK HARDS: Establish achievable goals for yourself and celebrate your progress, rather than comparing yourself to others.BE THE HARDEST WORKER IN THE ROOM.
4. Emphasize the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship: Teach your child that being a good teammate and displaying good sportsmanship is just as important as their individual performance.
5.. Encourage a balanced approach to sports: Remind your child that sports should be fun and enjoyable, and not just about meeting specific data points.
6. Find the right fit: Look for college programs and coaches that value your child's unique skills and abilities, rather than solely focusing on their performance metrics.

In this episode, we explore the history of the bench press, its pros and cons, and finally, Graham and Blair reveal their take on whether a man should be able to bench press 225lbs.

The bench press has been around for over a century and has become a staple exercise in weightlifting. It was first introduced in the 1890s as a way to measure upper body strength. Since then, it has evolved into one of the most popular exercises in the gym.

One of the pros of the bench press is that it targets multiple muscle groups, including the chest, shoulders, and triceps. It's also an excellent exercise for building upper body strength and increasing muscle mass. Additionally, it can improve overall athletic performance by increasing power and explosiveness.

However, there are also some cons to consider. One of the biggest concerns is the risk of injury, particularly to the shoulders and elbows. Poor form or lifting too much weight can lead to serious injuries that can take weeks or even months to heal.

Finally, Graham and Blair give their take on whether a man should be able to bench press 225lbs. They discuss the importance of setting realistic goals based on individual fitness levels and how pushing oneself too hard can lead to injury.

Overall, this video provides an informative look at the history and benefits of the bench press while also exploring some of its potential drawbacks. So whether you're a seasoned weightlifter or just starting out, this video is sure to provide valuable insights into this popular exercise.
