Psalm 4:1
The physical “closing in” is not all that happens to people. Many people feel crowded emotionally and spiritually
Ways to keep from having that claustrophobic feeling from Psalm 4:
-We call out to God in prayer (v. 1),
-Trust God will answer (v. 5),
-At the end of the day we "lie down and sleep in peace" (v. 8)
Psalm 4:7a
We need to choose His way as our way!
1 Samuel 24:1-7
David gave an example of patience
1 Samuel 24:4
David chose to wait for God’s timing
1 Samuel 26:8-11
Attributes that allowed David to wait for the Lord’s timing:
-David had strong faith and believed that God would gain victory in the right time and with the right method
-David had the correct values: Killing a king would violate his conscience
-Discernment helped David realize that assassination would mean stepping out of God’s will
-Strength played a role in the decision

Galatians 5:1-14

Don’t let others lead you astray
Adding requirements to the finished work of Christ can make people uncertain and insecure about their spiritual standing
When Jesus cried out on the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30), that’s exactly what He meant!
Reasons why Jesus came that gives us the freedom we have:
He came to seek and save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)
He came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10);
He came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18).
He paid in full for your salvation and promises to complete the good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6).
He set you free indeed! Live it, embrace it, and receive it!

1 John 5:7: “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.”
James 1:19-20
God the Trinity helps us to become humbler by showing love and generosity
John 16:14,15
1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
The apostle Paul was an authentic witness for the Lord!
No one really wants to fake it through life
Live a life that is real and not false, so that at the end of the day you have a good conscience
Blameless is the opposite of faking it
• Fathers do not lie to their children; they live honestly.
• Fathers do not neglect their children; they protect and provide for them.
• Fathers do not abandon their children; they care for them & shelter them in times of storm.
• Fathers model the behavior they expect from their children.
• Fathers do not say, “Do as I say, not as I do.”
• Fathers pull their children toward them rather than turning them away.
• Fathers inspire confidence and trust, not loathing and suspicion.
• Fathers discipline with love and compassion. What does it mean for you to live a life that is worthy of God?

Psalm 34:1-8
Mark Sorensen in a devotion from The Wake-Up Call: “Curious researchers at a university in Gothenburg, Sweden, wanted to know what happened to the heart rates of high school choir members when they joined their voices and sang together in song. Using pulse monitors attached to the members’ ears, the researchers monitored changes found in their heartbeats as they navigated through a choral piece of music, and what they found surprised them. In a very short period of time, the different singers in the choir didn’t just unify their voices, “their pulse rates also synchronized, their hearts beating together in relationship to their breaths.”
Praising the Lord is not limited to worshipping in church
Luke 1:47a: “My soul magnifies the Lord”

The 1st step in beginning to live the Christian life: "Repent," Jesus says. "Acknowledge your sinfulness."
The 2nd step in beginning to live the Christian life is to go out there once we've been given another chance to make something of it
God is gracious and patient, but there is a limit to His patience toward those who do not repent and are not spiritually productive

Philippians 3:12-14
Philippians 3:10,11: "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
“I press on toward the goal”
Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!”
“Joy is not happiness. It’s not a feeling or an emotion. Joy is not positive thinking. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22–23). Joy is supernatural. Joy is that deep inner conviction that though things are not right everything is going to be alright. Joy is experienced by those who exercise their faith through rejoicing. There is no circumstance in life that can elude joy. While joy comes from the Holy Spirit, it comes to those who will choose, by faith, to rejoice.” J.D. Walt
Philippians 4:5: “Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”
Philippians 4:6: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Philippians 4:7: ”And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:22: “All God’s people here send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household.”
Philippians 3:10,11: "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
Keeping our credentials in perspective
Philippians 3:6b
“as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.”
Philippians 3:7 (New Living Translation)“I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.”
Philippians 3:8a“What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.”
Is our greatest accomplishment knowing our Lord?
Philippians 3:11
“and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.”
Everything we have gone through for the sake of our Lord is worth it now and will be worth it in the end!
Philippians 3:10,11: "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
Philippians 2:5
Instead of WWJD (What would Jesus do?), ask HDJDI (How did Jesus do it?)
“He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, baptized by the Holy Spirit, anointed by the Holy Spirit, gifted by the Holy Spirit, inspired by the Holy Spirit, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and infused with the Holy Spirit. He walked in the power of the Spirit, prayed in the language of the Spirit, healed in the power of the Spirit, loved in the way of the Spirit, and so on. To “have the same mindset as Christ Jesus” means to be filled by the same power that filled Jesus—who is the person of the Holy Spirit.”- J.D. Walt in First Love devotional

Philippians 2:17
“In biblical terms, a drink offering means basically to pour out a cup of wine as an act of worship to God. The worshipper does not drink any of it themselves. It is all poured out as a sign of the victory and the joy of God. In other words, it is a complete sacrifice.”
J.D. Walt in First Love devotional
Become a “me for you” person
Epaphroditus did for Paul what we need to do for others
Commit to being a drink offering through prayer
“I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen" J.D. Walt quoting John Wesley in First Love devotional
Less of “Lord Jesus help me!” and more of “Lord Jesus have me!”
Philippians 1:21-30
Philippians 3:10,11: "I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead."
Paul had a single priority-Jesus!
"Paul has so deeply and thoroughly surrendered his life to Jesus that though he is completely vulnerable to the schemes of men, he is totally invincible. You cannot kill the one who has already died. He knows the secret to life—which is to die before you die. His ambitions and aspirations are dead and buried. Now his life can be consumed by a holy passion.” J.D. Walt in First Love devotional

John 15:12
“I want to know Christ!”
“The love of God in Jesus Christ is the white-hot, blazing sun of all reality. No sun means no light. No sun means no life. No sun means no order. Just as everything must revolve around the sun, everything must revolve around the love of God.”

The same thing that happened to the crowd in Jesus’ day still happens today!
Sarah Young in the devotional titled “Jesus Calling:”
“Let My Light shine in you; don’t dim it with worries or fears. Holiness is letting Me live through you. Since I dwell in you, you are fully equipped to be holy. Pause before responding to people or situations, giving My Spirit space to act through you. Hasty words and actions leave no room for Me; this is atheistic living. I want to inhabit all your moments-gracing your thoughts, words, and behavior.”
So, what is our Lord challenging us to say/do? Don’t be like the crowd.

A Mother's Prayer
"Dear Lord,
It's such a hectic day,
with little time to stop and pray.
For life's been anything hut calm, since You called me to be a mom - Running errands, matching socks,
Building dreams with stacking blocks.
Cooking, cleaning and finding shoes, and other things that children lose.
Filling lids on bottled bugs, wiping tears and giving hugs.
A stack of last week's mail to read - where's the quiet time I need?
Yet, when I steal a moment, Lord,
at the sink or ironing board,
to ask the blessing of Your grace,
I see then, in my little one's face,
that you have blessed me all the while.
And I stoop to kiss that precious smile.
-Unknown"
