When Demetris Demetriou and his son Lagi Demetriou shuffled onto the Britain's Got Talent stage performing their Stavros Flately gig, little did they know they'd tap-dance right into our hearts and become a symbol of joy and family. Their act, Stavros Flatley, wasn't just a dance; it became a phenomenon that spoke to the soul of fun, laughter, and the unbreakable bond between father and son.

On our latest episode, Demetris Demetriou shares the unexpected twists of fame and how he balances the limelight with the grounding force of Cypriot culture and close-knit family values. His story isn't just one of entertainment; it's about finding beauty in life's simple pleasures and the importance of protecting it with a fierce yet loving embrace.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to pair Greek charm with Irish dance, and then serve it up at your wedding? Demetris takes us behind the scenes of turning that very concoction into a sought-after act that gets the whole wedding party on their feet. From the initial spark of an idea in a Greek restaurant to navigating stage fright, the story of this dynamic duo dance act teaches us that the magic of entertainment lies just as much in authenticity as it does in the act itself. As Demetris recounts, there's an art to keeping the act fresh and engaging, proving that humour and a good-hearted tease are timeless.

Finally, dreams do come true, but sometimes they're dressed in simplicity rather than stardom. As Demetris muses over the notion of a beach bar—a sanctuary of relaxation plucked from the dreamscape of "Shirley Valentine"—we're reminded that fulfillment can come from the most modest of aspirations! Through laughter, shared experiences, and the wisdom of a life well-lived, Demetris' example encourages us all to embrace our dreams, no matter how quaint, and to treasure the journey towards them as much as the destination itself.

Join us as we get carried away in the heartwarming tales of a man who danced his way into a life where every step is a note in the melody of joy.

Today is about embracing imperfections as we grow older and finding practical ways to support ourselves.
Along the way, imperfections are bound to arise. But how can we work through these imperfections and create a fulfilling life for ourselves? Today, I explore this topic and uncover practical strategies for self-empowerment.

As we age, we gain a wealth of life experiences that shape us into who we are. These experiences often come with mistakes, failures, and imperfections. But rather than viewing these imperfections as flaws, we can choose to see them as valuable lessons and opportunities for growth. Embracing imperfections allows us to let go of unrealistic expectations and enjoy the journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

So, how can we practically support ourselves along this journey?

Remember, none of us are perfect, and striving for perfection is an unattainable goal. Instead why not embrace our unique qualities, strengths, and even the quirks that make us who we are? It's through our imperfections that we connect with others and create meaningful relationships.

So, be patient! Embracing imperfections and finding practical ways to support ourselves is an ongoing journey.

Let's celebrate the progress, no matter how small, and always remember that we are deserving of love.

Thank you for joining me on this episode of "Embrace Imperfections." Remember to embrace your imperfections, support yourself, and continue to grow.
Stay empowered!

In this conversation we talk about simplifying life, and parenting.

Key takeaways from our conversation:

  • Be the person you needed looking back
  • Simplicity coaching is getting clients to where they want to be by making it as simple as possible- helping them understand how their behaviour and beliefs are keeping them stuck
  • The challenge is not to find what you want to do, it's how you are going to decide that you deserve to do it
  • Understanding limiting beliefs and blocks is crucial for moving forward
  • Many people prefer to stay stuck
  • The mind tries to protect you every time you attempt to do something new
  • Mindset alone doesn't work, mindset and action are both needed
  • Our childhood programming is very strong, we have to work to change it
  • If we have power to mess it up we have power to fix it
  • Parent has to take the responsibility-we can perform miracles with our children if we have the right skillsets
  • We shouldn't demonise anger
  • Approach our children from a place of curiosity
  • Children want to see our eyes as 'bright and alive'
  • The importance of self-care and self love
  • To enjoy life we need to pace down
  • Tune into inner guidance and pause
  • Schedule rest, meeting friends, make it as easy as possible for you to commit
  • You have to believe you deserve it
  • We are the prototype for our children- we have to reestablish the prototypes
  • Aim to stop criticising children, allow for their mistakes and talk about them openly without judgement

Apologies about the sound - Working on the technical challenges!
Nafeli is an independent film producer who specializes in helping creative professionals, specifically filmmakers. She has a background in art and studied photography in undergrad and film and media arts in grad school.

It was while working in academia and mentoring international students when she discovered coaching. She found the Creativity Coaching Association and pursued a certification with a focus on Psychology. She combines her creative background in film with her coaching skills to help filmmakers, videographers, game designers, and other storytellers.

The conversation mentions the niche of mental health which Nefeli worked in, and the training she received for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Nefeli has helped all kinds of patients, from cancer patients to those with chronic illness. A common thread among the people she has helped, is anxiety which often stems from fear of the unknown, or fear of what others may think. Nefeli mentions the importance of finding the right coach to help. She makes the distinction between a coach and therapist stating that a coach does not go into the past like a therapist does, but instead sees the person as a functional person.

In this conversation, Nefeli talks about how a coach can help someone who has a fear of starting a project. She mentions four important elements to focus on when beginning a project: focus on something, devote yourself to it, give yourself permission to be yourself in the process, and get feedback from people you trust.

Nefeli also discusses how coaching can help people with motivation, mind shift, and pursuing a lifestyle that fascinates them. She typically works with clients remotely, but when she is in Cyprus, she sees them in person.

This conversation focuses on the creative client specifically. In her work Nefeli Soteriou provides coaching support to creative clients, helping them to organize their ideas, develop their screenplay, and budget for their project. Nefeli listens without judgment, and helps clients understand what is hindering them, as well as establishing new habits to help them for life.

The ultimate goal is for her clients to become autonomous, learn to coach themselves and not be dependent on the coach.

This is a must listen for parents of young children and teenagers or anyone who wants to learn about effective learning techniques and practices to improve concentration, study skills and memory. This episode has so many golden treasures!

As an educational mentor and career coach, Yiota is passionate about helping students make wise decisions for their future, She helps them identify their strengths so that they can figure out what career path to follow in order to avoid a lifetime of confusion and overwhelm around picking the right profession. Many do not seek out or receive proper career guidance and Yiota offers another way to do this.

In this conversation, we discuss the importance of focusing on our strengths rather than weaknesses. Parents often focus on their child's weaknesses which can often lead to procrastination and a lack of motivation. We explore why a lot of students believe they aren't smart, when in fact, they may simply not know how to learn.

KEY TAKE AWAYS

  • Everyone is born with the same tools - the brain - but it is important to understand how it works and how to use it in order to accelerate learning.
  • Focusing on strengths, cultivating them, and learning how to learn are the key to an empowered start.
  • Various techniques which can be used to tailor to different learning styles, such as visual, acoustic and kinesthetic.
  • Emphasizes the importance of having a positive attitude towards learning and not believing one is ‘not smart’ or ‘not intelligent’. Ultimately, the mission is to assist students and teach them ways to learn smarter and not harder.
  • The reminder of the importance of positive reward in a child's learning process.
  • Children are often stuck on their tablets, phones, or gaming consoles because they are rewarded with coins or well done, congratulations, you have won.
  • The Pomodoro technique which is a timer-based system of studying for 25 minutes and then taking a 5 minute break.
