I want to continue the conversation where my episode on financial shame left off.

So many midlifers come to me saying they don't have enough money to live their best midlife and beyond, and my first port of call is to encourage them to change their mindset and ask "How can I afford my dream midlife and beyond?"

In this episode, I talk about:

  • Moving from the statement "I cannot afford" to a questionL "How can I afford?" and how this is the key to getting unstuck
  • Making sure you do your numbers – "affording" is all about information and choices
  • The number one habit to make this all happen

I've mentioned in previous episodes that about five years ago, I had such severe burn out that I literally couldn't get up off the couch.

I've never fully shared the story though, not in detail, so in this episode, I talk about:

  • the three reasons I think burning out was one of the best things to happen to me
  • the number one symptom to watch out for in yourself and others, because this one is easy to miss
  • the first three things to do if you think you're burning out, or have been there and not fully healed

About a year ago, I started working with a running coach in preparation for my ultramarathon – and he gave me some tools that changed my life.

You've maybe heard me talk about epigenetics on this podcast before, but in this episode I want to go a bit deeper, because I have decided to incorporate this tool into my business (as well as my personal life)!

So in this episode, I talk about:

  • how the generic, one-size-fits-all approach to health is finally disappearing
  • the #1 reason to consider using epigenetic profiling in midlife
  • 3 ways my epigenetics profile continues to help me glide in midlife

If you've been around for a little while, you will no doubt have heard me talk about "grinding" and "gliding" through midlife.

I've had a few women reach out for some clarity on this idea, so in this episode, I talk about:

  • three signs that you're grinding your way through midlife
  • how gliding (the opposite of "grinding") feels
  • the three things to do to stop grinding and start gliding from today

Limiting beliefs are what keep us from having the life we want. I honestly truly, truly believe that. And a huge part of limiting beliefs – where I see this come up again and again for my clients – is about money.

So in this episode, I talk about:

  1. the two reasons negative money beliefs can keep you grinding your gears
  2. the five most common negative money beliefs to watch out for and why they are so insidious
  3. the number one money belief to change to and why it is such a game changer

I get told by a lot of Gutsy Ladies, "I don't know what I want... I just don't want this any more." And honestly, that's great!

We need to pay attention to these clues, because what we want is simply the opposite of what we don't want – it's just that we often cannot see that! So in this episode, I talk about:

  • the three reasons why not knowing what you want is a great starting point
  • how "I don't know" is just another way that we keep ourselves stuck
  • four examples of turning a "don't want" into a "want"

As a Big Zero Birthday gets closer, we can start to think of it as a line in the sand. But if we haven't met our own expectations of who we'd be by that birthday, then these birthdays can hold a lot of extra weight.

So in this episode, I want to show you how to think of these birthdays (or any milestones) with enthusiasm, not something to get down about. I talk about:

  • the three reasons we find Big Zero Birthdays either really motivating or really depressing
  • the biggest mistake I find grinding midlifers are making as they approach big birthdays (or any milestones)
  • the three things your plan must include to glide into your next decade

Thinking you can't afford to retire brings forward actions that only lead to that exact result. Financial shame is keeping far too many midlife women stuck and grinding!

So in this episode, I want to show you how to use one simple tool to start getting unstuck and start to glide through midlife with financial dignity. I talk about:

  • how the shame about not having enough money stops so many women from making plans that will get them where they want to be
  • the three ways financial shame could be showing up in your life, so that you can identify if this is what's going on for you
  • the tool I personally used to start taking control - and a free downloadable for you to take you from shame to dignity

I often say that knowing where you want to go is more than half the battle, but truth be told, having a plan doesn’t fix everything!

I want to introduce you to Ms. Frustrated, a client of mine. Ms F, as I call her in this episode, came to me when she started to feel like life was getting in the way of her reaching her new goals – and wanted some coaching on what to do about that. So in this episode, I chat about:

  • the critical difference between being the driver of the bus and being the conductor of the bus
  • the six key habit-change elements I want you to reflect on and understand so you can tackle your own goals
  • the tool I invented for my own habit change journey, and the one I introduce all my clients to in our first session

When I hit that "empty nest" phase of my life, I realised that this niggling feeling in the back of my head was actually loneliness.

Loneliness isn't something we talk about a lot – most of us don't really want to admit that we feel lonely, especially when we're surrounded by friends and family and stillfeel lonely. So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • the three reasons I felt lonely when I realised I wanted to live differently in midlife
  • the three ways you can address the feeling of loneliness (including my own story of working through this journey)
  • my one key tip to minimise the feeling of loneliness

I've had a lot of questions about epigenetics – what is it, why I swear by it – so I wanted to use this episode to address your FAQs.

You may have heard in previous episodes I often speak about how much learning about my epigenetics profile has changed my life. So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • what epigenetics actually is and why it's so exciting for midlife women wanting to take charge of their health
  • the three key areas where the knowledge of epigenetics has already improved my life – and how easy it has been to implement some changes

This is one of the most commonly uttered statements for midlife! Does that surprise you?

Well, I have a slightly different way of thinking about this – I want to challenge you to park this fear if you are not in your peak physical health, and address that instead. So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • three key reasons why our physical health is linked to our overall life satisfaction (even though you know these already!)
  • the quickest way to kickstart your physical health journey
  • why I believe in "retreating" and how to include it in your life

Wow, this topic! Every time I talk about retirement with my midlife women, it unleashes a slew of emotions – mostly negative ones.

While some women are excited about the prospect of retirement, others are sure they never want to stop working or can't stop working. So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • checking your mindset about retirement (or as I like to call it, my "freedom years")
  • how preparation and reflection are the opposite to denial – and a few limiting beliefs you may face

The old adage that "seeing is believing" may be true, but I also know the power of believing in seeing – that is, in the power of visualisation.

Over the thousands of hours I have coached people, helping them to actually see what it is they want is at least half the battle... maybe more than half!

So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • how we are so sure that we don't know what we want – and how that's rubbish!
  • how to tap into our subconscious to realise our deep desires (it's not as "woo woo" as it sounds!)
  • three things to build into a visualisation exercise to ensure it's effective

The smoke screen behind me doing this ultramarathon was actually all about my confidence.

A common reason I hear from my grinding Gutsy Ladies about why they are feeling stuck is because “I don't have the confidence to make the next step”. I recognise this – I've said it and felt is myself.

So in this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • the ironic first step in rebuilding your confidence after a set-back or just time wears you down
  • reframing opportunities and dreams in a way that you feel confident about
  • my model of REAL Goals and how it's going to be a gamechanger for your confidence levels

When I work with clients, it’s always interesting to hear how long it takes for them to use the word “should” – as in “I should just go to the gym” or “I should really be happy with what I have”.

The word “should” is so pernicious because it shows that we have outsourced our goals and desires – we’ve let other people become the expert of our life.

In this week’s episode, I talk about:

  • where our shoulding starts and where we lose the feeling that we are the expert in our lives
  • the difference between a "should" goal and a R.E.A.L. goal
  • how to stop shoulding, start wanting, and become the expert in your own life

Fearing that we are not enough often fuels us to people please or work towards certain markers of success that can lead us directly into full-blown burn out.   And while many of us were raised to put others before ourselves, if you are stuck pleasing everyone else before yourself, you are not going to take the time to live your best life. And a Gutsy Lady is focused on her best life!   In this episode, I talk about: * why the fear of not being enough leads to people pleasing and unattainable ideas of success * some practices that can help you recognise your patterns and change your thinking * how to start actually finding ways to please yourself in a safe and self-caring way

I was blindsided in my mid-40s with the realisation I wasn't anywhere near where I needed to be financially.

With bugger all superannuation, I made a few choices that have gotten me to where I am 10 years later: well and truly on my retirement pathway. In this episode, I want to share with you five things I wish I had known at 45, and also, I want to:

  • remind you that it's never too late... but that sooner is always going to better
  • call out the myth that superannuation is the only way to retire, and that retirement happens at 67
  • discuss how retirement is not all or nothing – I'll share about active, hybrid and phased retirements
  • highlight the potency of remembering that you can choose what you want

  • How unrealised crap can come back to bite you in your downtime

It feels funny to say, but women habitually drinking alcohol after work is the best thing for my business! Because when women notice this habit in themselves, that's when they reach out for support.

This is not a criticism or judgment of drinking alcohol – I'm certainly no teetotaler! – but when it's a salve for a negative emotional habit loop, it's not doing you any favours. And that's what I want to talk about.
