In the last episode of this season, I share how a brief pause over the summer, the major transitionary period after experiencing my early miscarriage, and the devastating events around the world have led me to a massive inner shift that is requiring much more attention, presence, and tending to than my current life is allowing.

I share how I am pausing in this season of my life to really be intentional, present, and tender with my heart and with my family, as the universe is nudging me into an unknown direction.

Because I have sat in this uncomfortable, yet familiar place before, I will follow the lead of my heart and step into the unknown of the future - a step that I hope gives you permission to follow in your own life as the universe nudges you into deeper alignment with yourself, your purpose, and the collective.

Our world may be overwhelmed with grief, war, and tragedy, but I do truly believe that the hearts of mothers and the re-staging of a child centered way of living is the way of a more balanced and peaceful world.

I hope you enjoy this episode and find some peace along your own journey, and I hope you stay connected with me as we journey through this Mother experience together.

You can stay connected with me by following me on instagram @thesomaticmother to stay up to date on all of the shifts, changes, and transitions that are being created in this period of pause.

Thank you for being here with me, and I look forward to reconnecting back in this space in the future to serve Mothers in the deepest ways possible!

In this vulnerable episode, I share my deeply personal journey through early miscarriage. I recount my spiritual pregnancy experience as I connected with my spirit baby through preconception, conception, loss, and continue to connect to this soul for guidance on a daily basis. Miscarriage is often a topic that is avoided in our society, and my hope is to help break the silence on the emotional, and often lonely road of grieving after early miscarriage and loss so mother's no longer carry the long term suffering that can impact them for decades if left unprocessed. Every story of loss is unique and must be processed individually. I offer comfort to all mothers who have experienced pregnancy loss in this episode, and validate the wide spectrum of emotions.

Join me for a thoughtful exploration of the many layers of miscarriage.

In this episode I also share about:

  • My intuitive connection to my spirit baby prior to conception
  • The unexpected difficulty of being present with the emotional journey through loss
  • My experience feeling unworthy of grief due to societal stigma around miscarriage
  • How to allow grief to be processed and how you must give yourself permission to feel and heal
  • How I honored myself, my soul baby, and my grief through ceremony and daily connection to myself and this baby
  • My experience of allowing this journey transform me in ways that all pregnancies do, however I believe that some babies are not meant to joy us in physical form

If you have experienced early loss, I hope this episode offers you a space to honor yourself, honor your baby, and honor your experience that is unique and healing to you on this very tender path. My heart goes out to you, and thank you for listening.

You’ve probably heard the phrase “just trust your body, because your body already knows how to give birth!”. As someone who is a true advocate for birth, postpartum, listening to your intuition, etc., I’ve totally said this before too.

But..is trusting your body in birth enough? Like..really enough? I’ve learned it’s not the most helpful thing to tell an expecting mother, because it’s not always that simple. If you’ve been told this and have struggled when hearing this phrase, I want to dig into this a bit more and shed some light on why it can be difficult to hear this in today’s episode.

Yes, I DO want you to be able to lean into and really trust your body in birth (and beyond), and I hope what I share with you today empowers you to do just that!

In this episode about trusting your body in birth, I cover:

  • The beautiful, powerful work I get to do with mothers and babies in the postpartum period in my hands-on practice
  • Why getting the birth you need (but maybe didn’t necessarily want), can help you and your baby receive the tender healing that is needed
  • The importance of radical responsibility in our births and our lives
  • How our nervous system can impact both our intuition and our instincts
  • Learning to reconnect with and trust in our bodies again
  • Practical tools that can help you go beyond just ‘trusting your body’ when you’re preparing for birth

I’m very excited to have an amazing guest, Ashley Winning, on the podcast today!

Ashley and I will be diving more into the surgical births she experienced, as well as the unassisted home birth she was able to achieve with her 3rd baby. She is a mother of 3, and she had a very different birth experience with her 3rd baby, compared to her first 2. Ashley has had to overcome a great deal on her journey to motherhood, and all of it has led her to the incredible work she is doing to help mothers today. Ashley’s story is extremely powerful, and it truly speaks to the healing potential of birth - I can’t wait for you to listen to all of the wisdom she has to share!

In this episode about the healing potential of birth, we cover:

  • Ashley’s first pregnancy and birth experience, and all of the shame and negativity pushed on her from those involved in her medical care
  • Ashley’s second pregnancy and birth experience, which resulted in more fear mongering and challenges
  • The major disconnect within the medical system that happens with women during pregnancy and birth
  • Ashley’s decision to fully understand physiologic birth, and have an unassisted, free birth at home with her third baby
  • Choosing radical responsibility and learning to trust your body during the amazing processes of pregnancy and birth
  • The power of advocating for yourself and staying true to what you believe in
  • Ashley’s complex journey of suppressing her emotions for years, to now working through and allowing them to surface
  • Listening to and trusting your intuition always, because it will never misguide you

When you’re going through uncomfortable changes in your life, I want you to consider - is your intuition guiding you, or is your trauma misleading you? In today's episode, I want you to know that you can learn to trust in your intuition and begin to discern what is truth and what is NOT truth. You'll be stepping closer and closer to your aligned self, and ultimately, this will create a lot more ease in your motherhood experience!

In this episode about your intuition guiding you or your trauma misleading you, I cover:

  • Why our bodies and minds are blueprinted to keep us safe
  • What intuition really is, and how it can show up in your body and/or your mind
  • How strong a ‘mother’s intuition’ really is, and why deepening/reconnecting to our intuition is vital
  • What it looks like to have our past traumas, upbringings, conditionings, etc. show up and deter us from our intuition
  • How you can deepen your maternal wisdom with your intuition guiding you, and better trust yourself as a mother during pregnancy, birth, and into postpartum

Over the last few months, I’ve struggled with leaning into and trusting my intuition. I’ve been experiencing many shifts in my life regarding my family, business, etc., and the noise around me continued to get louder.

I was letting the outside pressure from others influence my decision making, and it just felt really, really hard to hear my intuition. I’m betting you’ve experienced this in your own life, at some point or another too.

While it is necessary for us to get out of balance in order to rebalance into a new state of being, we don’t want the noise around us to continually overpower our intuition. I’m excited to talk more about discerning your truth in motherhood with the guidance of your intuition; I believe it is VITAL for us to lean into our intuition, and our inner knowing, so we’re able to make decisions that beautifully align for us and our families!

In this episode, discerning your truth in motherhood with the guidance of your intuition, I cover:

  • The cultural disapproval and shaming of mothers during pregnancy, birth, and into motherhood
  • My own situation of receiving unwanted opinions and advice from others as I make a big decision for my boys and their education
  • The distrust we have in women, which leads to a deep distrust that women have with themselves, and how that affects the world we’re living in
  • The major misconception that following your intuition will feel ‘easy’
  • What it looks like to actually hear and lean into the gentle ‘nudge’ that is your intuition on your motherhood journey
  • Giving yourself daily space to really sit with and notice how your inner wisdom shows up in your body

I’m very excited to have my first guest, Elizabeth Hulsey, on the Somatic Mother today.

Elizabeth and I dive into trauma - specifically, we’re unpacking childhood trauma, and its impact on birth. Trauma is something that majorly impacts not only our birth experience, but our postpartum and motherhood journey as well. If you’ve ever experienced some kind of trauma in your life, it can feel extremely lonely, and you may feel like you’re broken. It’s important to know that you are NOT broken, and you’re definitely not alone. The empowering community and support you’re craving is out there, and it’s important to have someone by your side who knows what you’re going through. I was truly grateful to have Elizabeth on to share her incredible wisdom; I know you will resonate with what she has to share, no matter where you are on your motherhood journey!

Elizabeth Hulsey is the owner of With Love, Elizabeth Hulsey. She is a mother to one, doula, childbirth educator, and sacred feminine supporter. Elizabeth developed a passion for this work after experiencing her own traumatic birth experience (which was also a pivotal moment for her). She now specializes in inviting healing and peace into birth for women who have experienced trauma in their childhood, or prior to their birth experiences.

In this episode about unpacking childhood trauma and its impact on birth, we cover:

  • Elizabeth’s story of becoming a doula, childbirth educator, and sacred feminine supporter
  • What childhood trauma can look like, as well as little T and big T trauma
  • How trauma can show up in pregnancy and birth
  • Medical gaslighting, and where it often comes up in pregnancy and birth
  • Why you need trauma-informed care that won’t keep you stuck in a re-traumatizing cycle forever
  • The importance of healing and finding peace from our trauma (before and/or during birth), and how it may show up in our postpartum if we ignore it

I’m BEYOND excited to chat with you today about a topic I’m super passionate about, which is the nervous system!

Not only is this the incredible work I get to do with others every day (especially mothers and babies), but I’ve also been working on healing my own nervous system over the last few years. I’ve learned how and why I respond to things in the way that I do, which ultimately, goes back to how it developed in my childhood and adolescent years.

The nervous system is very complex, and all of our life experiences leave an imprint on our nervous system, which affects how we operate and function day to day. The nervous system REALLY comes into play when we’re talking about birth, because birth is such an intense and vulnerable experience. Yes, the intrinsic role of the nervous system in birth is extremely powerful!

In this episode about birth and the intrinsic role of the nervous system, I share:

  • How my first birth experience left a major imprint on me and my nervous system
  • What the nervous system actually is, and what it’s responsible for in birth
  • The different ways that your autonomic nervous system (the sympathetic and parasympathetic) activates and responds in birth
  • Two parts of the social nervous system, and how they show up in birth
  • Tools to support you on your journey to regulating your nervous system, both in and out of birth
  • Giving yourself daily time and space to reflect on your current beliefs, fears, and outdated programming, so you can move forward in peace

I want to dive into an important topic with you today - the collective disconnection from our bodies, and how it’s radically affecting our birth experiences. This is something I see firsthand as a body worker who works with women from conception through postpartum, and into motherhood. We’ve gone most of our lives being disconnected from our bodies, and I recently even experienced this myself (what I shared in my previous episode). We must find a new balance with ourselves, so we can come home to ourselves and truly connect with our inner wisdom and spirituality!

In this episode about the collective disconnection from our bodies and its impact on our births, I’m talking about:

  • Having difficulty being fully present with our thoughts and emotions, and how somato emotional release can help
  • The role that trauma can play in the disconnection from our bodies
  • Common phrases and scenarios regarding emotions that many of us have experienced since childhood
  • The role our nervous system plays when it comes to protecting us
  • Why we (as women) don’t truly feel safe in our bodies, and how this can affect our birth experiences
  • 5 tools to help you ‘come home’ and find safety in your body again

Welcome to the NEW, (re)branded podcast, the Somatic Mother!

If you’ve been here for awhile, you may know this was formerly Instinctive Birth and Beyond: the Podcast. I’ve been going through a LOT of shifting and expanding in my life recently, and I knew that needed to happen with my podcast too. Like so many other mothers, I found myself just going, going, going, and I wasn’t allowing myself to simply pause. I felt myself being disconnected from my body, and I knew I needed to change that. Finally, I allowed myself to EMBRACE the pause, which led me to share with you the topic of today’s episode-less doing, more being. Welcome to the Somatic Mother-I’m TRULY grateful you are here!

In today’s episode about less doing, more being, I’m talking about:

  • Learning to embrace the ‘pause’ in order to connect with our bodies and be fully present
  • New opportunities that bring us out of balance, so we can realign and regain balance moving forward
  • The mantra of ‘less doing, more being’ that continued coming up for me
  • A recent, personal loss that led to a rebirth experience for me
  • Allowing myself to release and let my body just ‘be’
  • Embodiment in motherhood (and why it’s both beautiful and necessary)

Today’s episode is going to be a short and sweet one! It’s also going to be the last one you’ll hear from me for a bit, because it’s time for me to take a bit of a pause..and shift.

Last week I shared my 2nd son’s birth story on the podcast; he really was the catalyst for me to start developing my relationship with my intuition. I’ve since then been on a journey of really connecting with my intuition, my inner knowing, and just trusting myself more. Now, it feels like the Universe is leading me on a new, beautiful path!

In today’s episode, I’m sharing more about the upcoming rebrand of my podcast. Going forward, I’ll be working with moms to really lean into and trust their intuition, and provide support throughout the whole ‘shift’ that happens during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I’ve learned that listening to my intuition isn’t always comfortable, but it is when incredible growth happens. I’m SO excited for what's to come, and I can’t wait for you to join me when I’m back!

Today’s episode is a special one for me, because I’m sharing my middle son’s birth story! My middle son, Gavin, just turned 7 years old (time really is a thief). Since becoming a mom, I’ve learned that children are our greatest teachers, and Gavin truly has been for me.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about my 2nd pregnancy, what my preparation and “plan” was for giving birth, what my labor & delivery ended up being like, and more. My postpartum was challenging in a lot of ways, and going from one to two boys taught me that I gave a LOT of myself away. I finally had an epiphany and realized that I play a key part in my story and in my life. Ultimately, this means that if I play a key role, then I have the power to shift how my life looks too.

I hope you enjoyed listening to my second baby’s birth story! I really believe that our children are our greatest teachers; I’m grateful my sweet Gavin taught me all about self-love, and how vital that is. I want to encourage more women to prepare for their births, share their birth stories, and at least find more wisdom and some guidance along the way.

I’m super excited to share more about the work I do outside of my birth education and coaching, which is bodywork! I actually specialize in prenatal massage as a massage therapist, but my deep passion is in craniosacral therapy. I work with moms who are trying to conceive, through their pregnancies, and in the postpartum period. I get to see the healing benefits of postpartum bodywork firsthand, and they truly are incredible.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

  • Reasons why moms and babies comes to me for bodywork in the postpartum period
  • The beautiful and intricate work of craniosacral therapy
  • What the fascia is and how I work on it in the body
  • What craniosacral therapy can help with
  • Real stories of moms and babies I’ve worked with who processed their birth stories together
  • Physical benefits of craniosacral therapy

I’m very passionate about this work, because bodywork is an essential part of the healing process for both mothers and babies in the postpartum period. I believe we should ALL be getting bodywork when we are postpartum, because we just lived through one of the most intense experiences of our lives. After all, when a mother is well-nurtured and thriving, the rest of her family is too!

When you think of giving birth, I bet that fear is one of the emotions that comes to mind. Even though it’s very common for women to have fear regarding childbirth, that doesn’t mean you should let it completely take the reins of your birth, or even your life!

In today’s episode, I’m talking about 7 steps to releasing your fear in childbirth. I’ll be diving into what your fears actually are, taking time to learn about where they really came from, actionable steps to effectively release them, and more.

Fear about childbirth is completely NORMAL, and it’s really just a protective mechanism that we all have. However, fear isn’t something that should sabotage your birth experience either. I hope this episode brings you some tools that will help overcome fear surrounding childbirth, and lean more trustingly and knowingly into your birth experience!

She believes women deserve to be respected and supported in their pregnancy, birth, and parenting choices. It is her goal to help give you the knowledge and support you need to make informed decisions and to feel empowered throughout some of the most difficult and beautiful parts of your life.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

In today’s episode, I have Sydney Parlier on the podcast to talk all about using cannabis during pregnancy. Sydney is the owner of Canna Birth and is full of so much information and knowledge both through certification and her own lived experiences. We explore the risks, benefits, and safety considerations surrounding cannabis in pregnancy. Sydney talks through the different complexities and provides invaluable education, wisdom, and guidance for those who are curious or currently facing the dilemma of using cannabis during pregnancy and into the postpartum period.

Sydney has a deep passion for empowering women and exploring the intersection of cannabis and women's health. As a birth doula, cannabis consultant, and freelance writer specializing in the cannabis space, she wears multiple hats in her mission to educate and support women throughout their unique journeys. With two young children of her own, Sydney personally experienced the benefits of incorporating cannabis into her pregnancy and wellness routines. Inspired by her own healing journey, she founded her business to bridge the gap between women's health and cannabis, focusing on helping moms overcome challenges and barriers related to cannabis use during pregnancy and postpartum, including breastfeeding and early motherhood. Sydney's expertise extends to preconception as well, as she aims to provide comprehensive education and information through workshops designed for birth workers, doulas, lactation consultants, and healthcare professionals who support individuals consuming cannabis. Through her work, Sydney aims to transform perceptions, break stigmas, and empower women with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions for their well-being.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

  • Sydney’s journey into using cannabis during her first pregnancy
  • The different reasons why a pregnant woman may use cannabis to support herself during pregnancy
  • Different symptoms cannabis can be helpful in alleviating
  • Why current users of cannabis should re-evaluate their reasons for use once they become pregnant
  • What it looks like to work with Sydney
  • The risks and benefits of use during pregnancy
  • Different cannabis products versus commonly prescribed medications
  • Drug scheduling overview
  • Topical CBD and its role in treating inflammation and chronic pain
  • What you should consider about laws and safety when consuming

If you’re considering using cannabis during your pregnancy, or even if you’re a current user and you’ve found out that you’re pregnant, you don’t want to miss this episode! By the end, you’ll feel more informed and more confident, and a little less alone on your journey.

In today’s episode, I sit down with Sami Garrett to dive into her home birth stories! I’ve been hearing bits and pieces of her birth stories, and I’m super excited to finally sit down and hear it all. These stories are inspiring, especially considering she’s from a small town where midwives and home births aren’t the norm. People tend to think home births are scary, taboo, and unsafe, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Sami also became a published author when her first daughter was born. Her children’s book, Gertrude and Daisy’s Great Basin Adventure, takes kids on a wild trip back in time! While camping in present-day Nevada, Gertrude and Daisy find themselves on a wild adventure. Their curiosity over an arrowhead lying in a dry lake bed takes them back 11,000 years to a vastly different world full of extinct plants and animals. They make a new friend who helps them on their journey home and they encounter a few surprises along the way!

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

  • Sami and her husband’s love story
  • How she and her husband ended up putting down roots in Montana
  • The importance of interviewing potential midwives before choosing one
  • How mindset plays a role in shaping your birth experience
  • The importance of educating yourself on physiological birth
  • Sami’s most important piece of advice: educating yourself and being your own advocate

Sami is certainly breaking the mold in her small Montana town. She’s proving that home births are a safe option and that there’s more to childbirth than just the traditional hospital route. You can make your birth experience exactly what you want as long as you take the steps to bring it to light.

In today’s episode, I am giving you nine tips to help you achieve your dream home birth when you live rurally. Finding a home birth midwife may not be easy in some states and it’s possible you may feel anxious or uncertain about the birthing process when resources are limited. It’s essential to keep in mind that every location is different, and the availability of resources will vary from place to place.

It’s so important to do your research and find a midwife who is trustworthy, reliable, and supportive of the natural birthing process. Most midwives who support home births are committed to physiologic birth and have faith in the ebbs and flows of labor. They believe that a woman’s body knows how to give birth and that the birthing process should not be interfered with unless medically necessary.

There are so many different components that go into having a successful home birth and I’m so eager for you to hear these nine powerful tips. These tips are designed to help you lean into the trust of your body and the birthing process so you can create your own unique birth story. By trusting your body and following these nine tips shared in today’s episode, you can have a successful, natural and empowering birth at home.

If you are wanting to learn more about how to lean into and trust in your body’s ability to give birth, I invite you to learn more about my virtual natural childbirth education course, Instinctive Birth and Beyond!

In today’s episode, I discuss exactly what instinctive birth means. Despite being innate and primal, instinctive birth is often misunderstood. Birth is a natural and instinctual process, but unfortunately, it has been hijacked by the medical system, making it a highly medicalized event that has eroded the trust of women’s bodies to do exactly what they were made to do: give birth.

Instinctive birth is allowing the birthing process to unfold as it’s meant to while tapping into the trust of the innate wisdom and the natural design of the body. We as humans are a part of nature, and birth is a primal, instinctual process. As humans, we think we are above nature and that we need to control everything, including birth. However, the truth is that birth cannot be controlled, and attempting to do so can lead to harmful interventions that interfere with the natural process.

We need to reframe our understanding of birth and recognize that it is a process that should be allowed to unfold naturally, without interference. By trusting our innate wisdom and the nervous system’s protective role, you can have a more positive birthing experience.

If you are wanting to learn more about how to tap into the innate wisdom of your body, I invite you to learn more about my virtual natural childbirth education course, Instinctive Birth and Beyond!

Have you ever looked back at an experience in your life and wondered how one decision led to a downhill spiral? This is exactly how one intervention in the natural birth process can lead to a birth experience that isn’t aligned with what you were wanting.

In this episode, I discuss the cascade of interventions and what role it plays in the birthing process. The cascade of interventions typically begins with a small disruption to the natural labor process. Then it turns into a series of events that can change the entire course of your birth experience. This waterfall effect can often leave you feeling powerless, defeated and out of control of your birth experience.

Pregnancy and birth are such critical and sacred times in your life as a mother and woman and you should feel empowered throughout the entire process. I encourage you to look beyond simple decisions by asking questions, doing research, and using your voice to gain a grounded sense of self and confidence in decision-making for you and your baby.

Isn’t it amazing that every second of every day, birth is happening? But yet, we as women have been conditioned to fear it. Our bodies have instinctive wisdom and everything we are feeling and experiencing and needing is a call from our bodies. What if we could just trust our bodies and follow our instincts?

In this episode, I dive into trusting your body and leaning into instinctual wisdom when it comes to childbirth. While there is a time and a place for medical interventions during birth, many of those interventions are unnecessary and can cause more harm than good. We have to remember that our bodies were meant to conceive and bring life into this world. We have become so disconnected from the sacred spiritual aspect of birth and we need to reconnect and honor it.

We as women deserve the right to take our power back in birth and have the beautiful, positive, empowering birth experiences that we are meant to have. This is the motivation behind my work and if you’re wanting to dive deeper into understanding how your body works, I would love to have you join my natural childbirth education course!

Have you been told to just keep thinking positive and that good things will come? While this is certainly a part of the equation, it’s not the whole piece. The simple act of positive thinking goes way deeper into our subconscious mind and to bring our wants and desires to fruition, we need to take inspired and empowered action to get there.

In this episode, I will be sharing my tools and guidance on how to manifest the natural birth of your dreams. I tell the story of how manifestation played a role in my life when I stepped away from my nursing career and how I then began to really understand what manifestation meant and how I could use the way in which I think, act and believe to match my energy to the energy of my desires and how it can all relate back to your dream birth experience.

Whether this is your first birth or your last, you will walk away feeling empowered with the knowledge you need to create the natural birth experience you have always desired.

There is a great deal of focus when it comes to the physical, emotional, and even spiritual aspect regarding labor and birth. What I often see though is the mental aspect is overlooked. If you’re not mentally prepared for what’s ahead, it will be much easier to succumb to the strong and intense moments that are coming.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about why your beliefs become your thoughts, and your thoughts become your words. I’m also diving into 5 ways to mentally prepare for natural labor, because you WILL be pushed to your limits, and experience those tough, challenging moments.

As you're preparing for birth, I really want you to find yourself anchoring into emotions like love, excitement, joy, trust, and even faith. It’s normal to have a whole spectrum of emotions, but when you’re able to rest in a state of a higher vibration as you're preparing for birth, you’ll really be guided into the birth that you're manifesting.

All of this is why I help moms and families really dig into their deep-rooted fears and reframe their beliefs about labor and birth in my natural childbirth education course. If this is something you need support with, I’d love for you to check it out so you CAN have the positive, empowered birth experience you’re desiring!

I’m very honored to welcome another amazing guest, Clara Belize Wisner, onto the podcast today! Clara has been a dear friend of mine, as well as a mentor, for many years now. We were even pregnant together a few years ago; I was having my third baby, and she was having her first.

Clara Belize Wisner is a feminine bioenergetic nutritionist. She blends her knowledge and training around nutrition, cellular biology, and feminine physiology with her deep practice of spiritual feminine energetic principles. Clara is a teacher and embodiment of deep feminine nourishment. She knows that when women and mothers are well fed and nourished, the world is as well. Motherhood is her greatest practice, teacher, and her highest honor.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

-The healing work Clara does to serve mothers as a feminine bioenergetic nutritionist

-Clara’s 1st pregnancy and birth experience

-Clara’s 2nd pregnancy and birth experience

-How Clara and her husband prepared for her postpartum experiences

-The variety of emotions that can occur during postpartum when adding another baby to your family

-The importance of preparing for a restful and nourishing postpartum period

Clara’s birth stories are truly inspiring. They’re a true testament to the importance of listening to your body, getting out of your head, and coming into your body to allow your birth to unfold in the way it is meant to.

The work Clara is doing for mothers and women everywhere is powerful, and much needed. After all, motherhood is really an opportunity for transformation, and can provide incredible healing!

When you think about labor and giving birth, I’m betting that pain comes to mind. I’ve learned this is something that most every woman is afraid of, even if they’ve experienced birth before. Something I like to tell my oldest son is that while it’s totally normal to have fear, what we do (or DON’T do) with that fear is what’s really important.

I want you to be educated and informed as best as possible, so you’re able to shift your mindset about pain and intensity surrounding natural birth.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

-How we collectively deal with pain in our society

-4 reasons why the intensity of labor is so crucial when we’re bringing new life into this world

-5 ways to help you cope with pain and intensity during natural labor

I don’t want you to stay stuck in a deep-seated fear when it comes to the dreaded labor pain everyone is so afraid of. Pain in labor has a physiological purpose, and labor pain can be your POWER. It is an instinctive part of our nervous systems and a result of our environment; it’s completely necessary!

Remember - you deserve to feel empowered and confident when it comes to your unique birth plan. You are capable of so much more than you think!

As we’re approaching the 3-year anniversary of the world shutting down, I felt really called to share my postpartum experience during that time. My pregnancy and birth with my last baby were both beautiful experiences; I felt very in control of my body, and how everything went.

I also really prepared for my postpartum period, but I had no idea how things were going to drastically change and unfold with the start of the Covid pandemic and lockdown.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

-What the sacred window is

-What the first few weeks of my 3rd postpartum period looked like

-The difficult struggles I experienced once the Covid lockdown happened

-How I found healing, grace, and resiliency once I decided to pull myself out of the ‘hole’ I was in

It’s hard to imagine that it’s been 3 years since everything changed in our world. To say that time was ‘tough’ for me would be an understatement. I had so much fear and uncertainty with what was happening, and I had no idea if I was going to be able to take care of myself and my family, and come out on the other side.

I hope my story can bring healing to you, wherever you are on your journey. PLEASE reach out for help if you’re struggling in your postpartum experience, whether you’re freshly postpartum now, or it’s been a few years. You deserve the best support possible Mama, and you don’t need to do this alone!

I’m very excited to have another amazing guest, Shawna Mox, on today’s podcast episode! Shawna is here to share her very specific experience with postpartum psychosis after the birth of her first baby, which happened almost 2 years ago.

Shawna Mox is a life coach, founder of BomBooty Dance Party Workouts, podcaster, Mother, and postpartum psychosis survivor. One of her callings is to share her story in order to help raise awareness and transform the stigma around maternal mental health experiences.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about:

-Shawna’s pregnancy and birth experience

-The manic-like symptoms she started experiencing in her early postpartum

-Her frustrating experience with her family during her first manic episode

-Shawna’s 2 different stays in behavioral health facilities

-Losing temporary custody of her son and eventually, going through a divorce

-What Shawna has experienced since her postpartum psychosis and how she is planning to support herself if it happens again

Shawna’s story is pretty incredible, and I felt truly honored that she decided to share it here on this podcast. Postpartum psychosis is absolutely a health emergency. While it is treatable, it’s something we NEED to bring more awareness to (and I’m so grateful Shawna is doing this!)

Mothers should not be suffering with their mental health during pregnancy, postpartum, or any other time. As a society, we need to dismantle the stigma around maternal mental health, and really bring in the support that’s necessary during these times. If you are struggling with this, please advocate for yourself, and don’t be afraid to get the help you deserve!

Radical responsibility is something that goes far beyond pregnancy and birth, and it actually frees you up in all aspects of your life.

I spoke about this briefly on last week’s episode regarding how you can have an embodied birth experience, but I want to dive into it more. This is a way of living that can allow you to be in your body, and find sovereignty and autonomy in your pregnancy and birth experience.

In today’s episode, I’m talking more about:

-Why our society does not normally choose to be self-responsible and tends to put people into superior and inferior ‘tiers’

-What radical responsibility actually is

-How radical responsibility looks during pregnancy and your birth experience

There really is so much power in owning your shit, and taking responsibility for it. Nobody else will EVER know your body the way you do, no matter their place of authority, how many years of school they’ve gone to, etc. You don’t always need to go seeking answers externally from your provider if you’re unsure of what to do.

I really want to encourage you to take a moment and pause, come inward, and ask yourself and/or your baby what you need to do. I promise-you CAN be confident, powerful, and connected during your pregnancy and birth, and I’m here to help you with all of that!

When it comes to living a full and present life, the term ‘embodiment’ always comes to mind for me. Being able to find deep peace and gratitude within our lives (even in the ‘not so good’ moments) is so important, and can actually give us liberation from the struggles we are feeling in the world around us.

In today’s episode, I’m talking more about what embodiment actually is, and how you can have an embodied birth experience. There are some really great embodiment practices you can incorporate into your pregnancy, birth, and even postpartum experience. Becoming embodied can be pretty difficult for so many of us. We've been so conditioned to be disembodied and disconnected, so please be patient with yourself along the way.

I’m extremely passionate about embodiment and having an empowered birth experience. I believe that if every mother can birth in her own power, she can do anything, and ultimately, positively change the world for the children she’s bringing into it!

I’m excited to share a special episode with you today, which is the birth of my youngest son, William! We just celebrated William’s 3rd birthday earlier this month; he really has been an incredible gift to our family, and he has taught me so much during these first 3 years of his life. I feel like my pregnancy and unique birth experience with him planted the seeds for my childbirth education course, Instinctive Birth and Beyond, and just changed so much for me, and what I’m doing in this space now.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing about how my 3rd pregnancy came about, and what my pregnancy, labor & delivery, and postpartum experience was like. One of my goals was to be fully present and fully experience everything I could during this pregnancy. I truly felt SO spiritually connected to my baby during this time.

It’s important that we shift our beliefs and get back to honoring birth and life, because it really is a beautiful event. Our bodies are pretty magnificent, and they know how to grow, birth, and nourish our babies. I hope some part of my story inspires you to find that trust within yourself, and build a deep connection with your baby!

Today is part 2 of my dear friend Joy’s birth story episode! In part 1, Joy shared the very real, raw, and vulnerable details of her first 2 births, as well as 2 miscarriages she experienced, and the beautiful way she honored those babies. Make sure to go back and listen to that episode if you haven’t yet, because it is powerful!

Joy Moore is a reluctant, homeschool mom of four earthside little people and four spirit babies. She is the co-founder of Once Again Mom, where mommas are loved, seen, valued, understood, and cherished in all things postpartum. She is passionate about honoring our matrescence (those adolescent mother years and the experience of making a mom).

Joy believes in honoring each of our unique designs, shifting the “should be’s” to “am’s”, and expanding into what it feels like to be ourselves. It’s time to discover the art of experiencing pleasure in everyday moments, and recapture the art of joy.

In today’s episode, we’re talking about Joy’s 3rd and 4th birth stories. She actually had both of these babies at home, but they were very different experiences. Joy also endured 2 more miscarriages between her 3rd and 4th babies. After everything Joy has experienced on her journey to becoming a mother, she has now stepped into the space of helping mothers during the postpartum period. She talks more about the incredible work she is doing to really hold and support mothers during this important time (and oh, how it is needed!)

I absolutely loved getting to listen to and learn from Joy as she shares all of her birth stories, and her evolution as a mother and embodied individual. You can really hear how she moved through the development of trusting her own body, and becoming more connected to her maternal strength and intuition throughout the entire process. I’m excited you are here, because I KNOW you will resonate with and feel empowered after listening to Joy too!

I’m excited to feature a dear friend of mine, Joy Moore, on today’s episode! This will actually be part 1 of Joy’s story, because she has so much beauty, empowerment, and wisdom to share when it comes to birth, postpartum, and beyond.

I truly loved getting to learn from Joy and hear her incredible journey with motherhood over the last 11 years; she has SO much goodness to share! I have no doubt you will resonate with and feel empowered after listening to her as well. Stay tuned for part 2 of Joy’s story on next week’s episode!

The way you experience entering the world truly matters, and it actually has a lot to do with your unconscious beliefs around birth. I'm excited to kick off more birth storytelling with you here by sharing my OWN birth story. I have healed from my personal birth experience, and it was vital for me to do so I could find peace, strength, and ultimately, release certain fears I was holding on to.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing all about:

-The powerful work I had to do in order to unveil and heal from the trauma I experienced after being born

-How your unconscious beliefs around birth can greatly impact your labor, delivery, and postpartum period

-3 ways you can help yourself heal from your own birth story

You cannot fully accept and soak in the education and information about physiologic birth if you still hold gripping fears around giving birth (even if your conscious mind can’t remember, your subconscious does). This is why I always start my childbirth classes off by releasing fears and restructuring deep-rooted beliefs you may have around birth.

If you’re starting with your birth journey, please don’t take this information lightly-it is foundational work that you MUST do when you’re preparing to give birth. I promise you-it’s truly amazing what healing, awareness, and ease you can gain when you do this, and I can’t wait to hear what shifts you experience once you do so!

I am beyond excited to have my mom as the very first guest on my podcast! I just celebrated my 34th birthday last week, so I thought this was the perfect time for her to share her birth experience with me here. The day of our birth can hold SO much power over and within us, and it can actually keep us from feeling empowered and trusting when we’re having our own babies.

In today’s episode, we’re talking all about the day I was born, the days after my birth, and all that transpired then. My mom shares some similarities with her birth experiences (I am the youngest of 3 girls), as well as the unique challenges she experienced when having me.

I absolutely loved getting to hear my own mother share about her birth experience with me in detail (as well as with my sisters); clearly, generational birth storytelling is powerful! There was definitely a lot for her to digest regarding all of it, but I know it’s helped her being able to openly talk about it too.

Like I discussed in some previous episodes, it’s vital that we continue birth storytelling; it’s a beautiful, sacred gift that can heal, and should always be shared!

Today’s episode is a special one for me to share, because it’s my very first birth story with my oldest son, Mason! I really learned so much during this experience, and I’ve been on quite the journey since he came into this world. I knew I had to gift this story to you; it not only impacted how my second and third births were, but it dramatically changed the way I see birth.

In today’s episode, I’m sharing all about:

-What my first pregnancy was like and how I prepared for it as best I could

-My overall experience with my OBGYN

-My labor and delivery in the hospital + my traumatic epidural experience

-My challenging postpartum recovery

I learned a LOT during my first pregnancy, labor, and postpartum experience. Navigating it all as a first-time mom can be overwhelming and scary for so many of us. Even though I went through challenges I never expected to deal with, I’m still grateful for my experience, and the path I’m on now. It really helped me better prepare for my second and third babies, and I knew what I did NOT want to happen going forward.

I always say-unmedicated birth does not equal non-traumatic birth, and medicated birth does not equal traumatic birth. If you’ve ever experienced a traumatic birth in any way though, you absolutely need the right support in order to process and heal. Ultimately, our views of birth and what we allow to happen during birth HAS to change; I am passionate about doing that in this space, and more!

Birth stories are so very important, and I personally love hearing them. I think it’s vital that we share our birth stories with others, because there really is a great deal held within our births and what we experience in those times. They can have a powerful impact not only on us, but on our children and the generations to come as well. I’m excited to dive more into birth storytelling and all of the wonderful, unique parts of it with you here.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about how birth storytelling can heal, and 4 benefits of sharing our birth stories. It is imperative that we acknowledge our own birth stories, and take the time to really process them. Storytelling is how we carry on history, and how we share our wisdom and knowledge with others. It really is no different when it comes to our birth stories, even though it’s not always easy (or comfortable) to share these intimate experiences with others.

I want to continue shifting the entire birth paradigm and allow women to safely and openly share their birth stories; this was a huge reason why I started my podcast in the first place. So much happens during birth, but ultimately, it is a beautiful, sacred gift that should be honored and shared!

I can’t believe it, but my podcast is officially LIVE and out into the world! I am beyond excited, and truly honored that you are listening, so thank you for being here with me.

For this first episode, I really just want this to be an introduction into who I am, and why I’m doing what I am today in this space. I’ve spent years on this path; I’ve been on both sides when it comes to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and I really do get it!

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

-My story of working as a registered nurse (my dream job in labor and delivery), to then experiencing a life-changing transformation during yoga teacher certification

-How I work with both mothers and babies during pregnancy and postpartum (my unique specialties as a massage therapist and Ayurvedic postpartum doula)

-Why I’m now on the other side of healthcare, supporting and empowering women during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum

I always knew I wanted to help women in birth, and honestly, throughout all stages of life. I want mothers to flourish and thrive in this world-not just simply survive. I’m here to remind you that you are a magnificent, powerful being, and you ARE capable of creating an amazing birth experience and motherhood journey.

I truly believe empowered births are the way to a better future, and collectively as mothers, we absolutely can change the future!
