Our home is a reflection of our internal experience. When we’re feeling frazzled, busy, and overworked, it shows up all around us as cluttered spaces, overcommitted schedules, and judgment that we’re never doing enough. This podcast aims to tidy up all the clutter that has you spinning in circles. If you’re a woman with a to-do list, running one household (or more!), or caring for others, this podcast is for you. We will go beyond the basics of home organization to talk about why a clutter-free mindset is essential to an aligned and sustainable lifestyle. I’ll invite you to get curious about the standards and expectations women feel pressured to uphold, and together we’ll ditch the idealized destination of domestic perfection for a more comfortable, realistic, and restorative way of living. Learn more at https://www.apleasantsolution.com/.
Money is a topic that either excites or intimidates, yet it’s central to so many aspects of our lives. Today, I’ll share two powerful perspectives about money that I hope will expand your thinking and challenge your beliefs around finances.
I'll share personal stories, including a significant financial risk I took at the age of 19, and how my husband and I have navigated our financial journey together for over two decades. These experiences illustrate how our emotional responses to money and numbers are shaped by context and our personal money stories.
Understanding your money story is key. It influences how you spend, save, and view debt. These foundational scripts are often inherited from previous generations and impact your daily financial decisions. By examining these scripts, you can gain a clearer understanding of your past choices and create more empowering financial habits.
Press play to learn how to reframe your financial beliefs and embrace an abundance mindset.

Welcome to Episode 86, where we sit down with Eve Rodsky.
Eve turned a "blueberries breakdown" into a catalyst for social change by applying her Harvard-trained background in organizational management to the home. In this episode, Eve shares her journey from a chaotic childhood to becoming a thought leader in domestic equity. She discusses the importance of treating the home as an organization, the mental load women carry, and the significance of time choice. Eve also shares a peek into the groundbreaking research from the Fair Play Policy Institute and the University of Southern California, which highlights the mental health impacts of cognitive labor.

Feeling out of alignment? It's time to go back to basics! Often, we seek complicated solutions when the most straightforward elements in our lives can help us the most.
In this week’s episode, I'll break down five areas I bring awareness to when I'm feeling out of alignment. These foundational steps restore the simplicity of time, space, and being that I value. These steps are not a formula to fix how you're feeling but rather a means for genuine self-care. By treating yourself better, you increase your awareness, presence, and self-compassion. It's about recognizing that you don't have to feel amazing all the time and that it's okay to take a step back and simplify.
Tune in now to learn more about these foundational steps and start your journey towards a simpler, more balanced life.

An item can be clutter even if it's worth thousands.
Handbags, shoes, high quality dresses, jewelry, these items can still be clutter if you are not using them, wearing them, or have a plan for when you will. I know this first hand because I've inherited jewelry from my mother, grandmother, and aunt. Transforming these precious items from mere keepsakes tucked away in drawers into cherished pieces that enhance my daily life was a meaningful process.
Join me as I share my personal journey through an abundance of family jewelry, offering insights into how to distinguish between what's meaningful and what may be clutter in disguise. I'll encourage you to sort, categorize, and perhaps repurpose or part with jewelry, aiming for a lighter, clutter-free collection that brings joy and meaning.
If you're ready to honor the legacy of your loved ones while embracing an organized life free of mental clutter, press play and let's start the journey together.

From the seemingly harmless daily glass of wine to the intentional choice of sobriety, this episode unpacks the mindset shifts and coaching tools that led me to embrace a life without alcohol.
I'll explore the importance of questioning habits of all types. I’ll discuss the empowering notion that every choice is an opportunity for you to exercise agency, whether it’s with food, social media, exercise, or overworking. I’ll also share how to navigate the messy middle of desire, allowing the urge to drink, and feeling what you may be avoiding. I’ve discovered a few unexpected rewards through this sobriety experiment too.
Cheers to the power of intentional decision making!
Please note that you should consult with your doctor before making any major shifts in your health or lifestyle, and seek professional support if you or someone you know has a challenging relationship with alcohol.

In this episode, I share the intricacies of parenting, self-discovery, and one of our family's fundamental philosophies: Attitude, Effort, and Decision Making (AED). It’s a mindset framework that our family uses to ensure we’re optimizing each day to the fullest, and originally arose from my son’s elite soccer journey.
Given many of our daily challenges, the philosophy of “attitude, effort, and decision making” is a practical tool for self-reflection. It offers a framework for you to evaluate your mindset, your output, and your choices. As we step into 2024, let this philosophy be a source of inspiration for your resolutions and a companion for the ups and downs of life.

As we conclude 2023 and usher in the New Year, I'm excited to introduce a concept that I use myself and with clients.: "From this day forward." This phrase becomes a deliberate boundary, separating past habits from the intentional choices shaping your future. Whether you’re organizing your home or establishing new routines, ‘from this day forward’ is a mindset shift that allows you to let the weight of the past go without the need for heavy judgment.
Please know that your consistent support and presence each Wednesday have been a gift, making launching this podcast one of my greatest joys this year.
Turn in and let's embark on this journey by bidding farewell to 2023, to old habits, and embrace a fresh start in 2024 together.

Calendar management is challenging for most of us (especially when multiple people are involved!) In this episode, I discuss insights from The Fair Play Method, and I explain how my husband and I divide calendar responsibilities at home. I invite you to question default gender-based roles around calendar keeping, and reconsider the dynamics in your household too. Sharing the chore load also involves clear communication around the family’s activities.
Additionally, I provide practical tips on building and maintaining an organized family calendar. My hope is that by talking about calendaring, by making the work of organizing time more visible, you’ll feel less frazzled and understand how much you’re in charge of your time.
Tune in to reassess your calendar approach and remember, you’re more organized than you think.

Frazzled is another descriptor for the mental and emotional load. For me, frazzled feels like a dense brain cloud. When I’m frazzled I can’t even seem to make the simplest decisions. My mind is cluttered, and I’m not 100% aware of it.
In today’s episode I’ll outline how when feeling frazzled becomes the norm it affects your body, well-being, and relationships. I’ll also share my process to recognize then shift away from feeling this way. I offer a series of self-reflection questions to help you identify the mental clutter that’s weighing on you.. We often forget that each of us has a choice to continue in our current patterns or to do things differently. Frazzled does not have to be the norm!

In our productivity-oriented culture, there’s so much focus on the to-do list. Keeping track of what you’d like to accomplish is helpful, yet when we use it as a measuring stick of success it can be disheartening. Instead, I prefer redirecting my brain toward what I have already completed each day.
In today's episode, I will outline why I believe to-do lists are problematic. Then, I’ll share a simple exercise to help you re-frame your days and weeks to focus on what you've done instead of operating in an overwhelming cycle of to-dos. This process builds a mindset of success and is another tool to help you live a more organized life.

Today, I am talking about procrastination. It's a tool you can use to increase pressure on your output, but it's not who you are. Most folks who use procrastination know that they do it. The difficulty occurs when you add a layer of self-judgment and shame for putting a task off. This makes procrastination painful. I want to help you break this cycle because, ultimately, it’s a tool - nothing more.
I will share a bit about my relationship with procrastination, and I’ll share a few behavior descriptions coined by Dr. Abigail Levrini. I’ll also offer several solutions you can implement and practice. My goal is to help you create awareness so that you’re in control of your future choices. You’re more organized than you think.

Today’s episode is the second of two introductory episodes about The Fair Play Method. The Fair Play Method is a trading card game designed to rebalance the chore load within the home so that everyone saves time and mental energy. First, I will give an outline of the basics of the game. Today’s episode is about the process of letting go and how to clear space, literally and figuratively, for what you actively need.
I am proud to be a certified Deep Dive coach. The Deep Dive philosophy centers on embodiment and the belief that emotions, bodily experience, and intuition are key sources of wisdom for our life choices. So there isn’t just one way to let go. Embracing an organized life is deeply knowing why you are keeping certain people or things in your life, and those stories are unique to your experience, emotions, and stories.
Use this episode as a guide to reflect on what is working or not working within your decluttering journey. I share a few reasons why letting go isn’t as straightforward for some as it is for others. I also walk you through my process for letting go of items, thoughts, relationships, and anything that isn’t earning its keep in your life anymore. Remember, you are capable of changing your relationship to clutter because you are more organized than you think.

Whether you're well into the journey of embracing an organized life or at the very beginning of it, revisiting your morning and evening routines is always a great and impactful practice. We measure the passing of time in days. Therefore, having a conscious simple start and end to your day creates space to reflect upon this larger journey of life that we're all on together.
Creating a structure that works for you has several practical reasons and benefits—defining what simplicity looks like for you helps reduce mental, physical, and emotional clutter preventing you from living an organized life.
I will also share key choices I have made for my days that regulate my morning and evening routines despite distractions from family, obligations, and the constant stimuli that take up space in our brains. Finally, I will help you examine what you're currently doing each day and suggest a few adjustments to consider.

My whole philosophy is that our internal clutter often shows up externally in some shape or form and I believe that our cars can be a sneaky place for clutter to appear.
Each of us has a special relationship with our car. If you drive on a regular basis, your car essentially may be an extension of your home. And you deserve it to be a peaceful or restorative space, especially if you have kids.
So on today's episode, I'll give practical tips and share my approach to car care. As a pro organizer I like to think broadly when it comes to the category of my car, so I’ll also talk about a few easily missed details regarding your vehicle.
As you tune in I want to invite you to think for a moment about what you'd ideally like your car environment to look and feel like.
Now, dig a layer deeper and consider why you want it to be that way. Your car doesn’t have to be an afterthought, and in about an hour, you can reset it back to a space of comfort.

Today I’m talking about inherited clutter. Inherited clutter is when you become the recipient of someone else's belongings for any other reason than by choice. Many people avoid having a conversation with their parents about finances, future living situations, and healthcare.Talking about aging doesn't make it less likely to happen. Instead, it's a way to connect with and better understand the older generation's wishes and desires. Your parents may push it off or say they don't want to be a burden, but it's your job to help them understand that unfinished plans or decisions are a burden.
Listen in as I briefly touch upon the impact of inherited clutter and emphasize how you can proactively engage in conversations so that there's a plan for your loved one's items and care. Here are a few open-ended questions to start with:
The impact of not knowing what someone wants is immense. However, it's preventable. By embracing an organized life, you can use the three cornerstones: emotional resilience, powerful decisions, and deep self-trust to navigate everyone through sensitive conversations. Remember, you're more organized than you think, so decide to use it to your advantage to get the conversation started.

The word "busy" is overused. It is often used as a blanket catchall phrase or a marker of success or martyrdom. I think a more accurate term is being over-committed. It's when you have to be in multiple places at once. It's when you have numerous projects requiring your attention or when your brain jumps from tasks to logistics to problem-solving. Busyness is life without sufficient and restorative physical and mental breaks.
A common misconception is that you can master busyness with organization. Yet, everything you do is a choice. Busyness happens when you're telling yourself you have enough time for it all rather than thinking deeply about what tasks are essential and non-negotiable.
One solution to busyness is prioritizing. It helps to cut down on the mental clutter. It's about recognizing that you can control where you need to be and what you're focused on at any moment. Practice redirecting your focus to the set of tasks that are absolute priorities in our overstimulated, highly distracted world.

How do you want to feel in your home? The journey of creating your dream home and life starts with awareness. Self-trust is the anchor of our lives, and in today’s episode, I’ll share why I believe it’s the third and final cornerstone to an organized life.
There are three qualities of self-trust:
Self-trust is built when you combine the other two cornerstones: powerful decision-making and resilience.
Trusting yourself ultimately comes from taking risks of any size and from learning from that particular situation. This path often involves inner discomfort, yet the reward is inner strength.
So join me as I share client examples and stories to illustrate what it looks like when self-doubt becomes self-trust. Remember, deep self-trust starts with having your own back. Learning to treat yourself with compassion and kindness is a lifelong journey. But I know you can do this. You’re more organized than you think.

The external clutter in your life starts within your internal mindset. Today, I show how the intersection of emotions and decisions form the foundational elements of a clutter-free life.
Most of the media you encounter spotlights systems, routines, and processes as the solution, yet I’ve seen something different. When you learn the skill of emotional awareness and emotional resilience, clutter doesn’t stand a chance. Systems, routines, and processes become much easier to implement and maintain once you understand the impact of emotions.
Every thought or sentence that runs through your mind on any given day produces emotion in your body. Unfortunately, most folks develop a dislike for stronger feelings because they’re either socialized or taught that it’s not okay to show emotions to others unless the situation is deemed appropriate. This is one reason we hold onto things longer than needed, overwork, and avoid hard conversations.
Identifying and understanding your emotions will be positive fuel for every area of your life. Building emotional resilience through sitting with and processing your feelings is the most direct path to a clutter-free life. You’ll begin to address the mental clutter and the overwork. This will make you free to make decisions and manage physical clutter, bringing you one step closer to living an organized life.

In today’s episode, I address the fundamentals of decision-making. But, of course, you already know how to say no or yes. You may also know when you’re stuck or avoiding a project or decision. So join me as I dive into why decision-making is a cornerstone of a clutter-free life and how you can powerfully wield the tool of decision.
One of the core values of my business is the simplicity of time and space. Decision-making is one way to bring this into reality. You’re always making decisions whether you’re aware of it or not. Decluttering your home and life is about harnessing the power of your choices.
Decluttering may dredge up memories that act as roadblocks for the decision-making process, but when you reward yourself for making decisions, your brain will like it and seek more. That’s one reason why it’s so important to celebrate every choice as a win. Remember, you are more organized than you think.

The bathroom is an integral part of your daily routine. Your thoughts about routine and your thoughts about it influence the time you spend in the space. So today, we will get curious about your relationship with your bathroom.
Noticing the current state of your bathroom isn't about judgment or criticism. It's about listening to the soundtrack in your head and then getting curious about how you want to feel.
In this episode, I give some practical strategies and tips to take action on freshening up your space. I also encourage you to question your current routine and see how a mindset shift may add more joy and self-love without needing to complete a 5-figure bathroom renovation.
Taking a little more time for yourself and asking powerful questions re-purposes your bathroom from a transactional space to one of luxury. It's a small shift with a resounding impact.

So often we’re busy criticizing ourselves for how our home could be tidier. Or how we could have less stuff. Or how things could be more organized. As a result, we forget to stop and recognize the abundance and beauty in our lives.
Happiness and satisfaction aren’t directly correlated to where you live, what size your home is, or the number of objects in it. Happiness and satisfaction come from how you are thinking about those things at any given time.
In today’s episode, let’s set aside decluttering and organizing. Instead, let’s focus on wanting what you already have. You truly do have the option of being content with the items and home layout that you have now. So, I challenge you to list out 10 things or experiences that you “want.” What would you put on that list?
Now, consider whether any of the items on your list are items, people, or experiences that you have in your possession right now. Curious isn’t it? Let’s explore an abundance mindset, and see what shifts for you.

By embracing an organized life you’re actually more prepared for the moments when life goes sideways. A "glitch" in your matrix is when there’s disruption of such magnitude that your emotional foundation is shaken for a few days or sometimes for a few months.
It’s a season where things are not just off but the disruptions are seemingly random, especially when life has been running in a predictable fashion. You can find yourself asking, “What the F is happening right now?!?”
In today's episode, I’ll share how I grounded myself during my most recent glitch and offer a few tools that will help you care for yourself the next time life gets topsy-turvy. Again, embracing an organized life means having easy-to-call-upon techniques to help navigate disruptions. It’s not about achieving 100% control over your space and life. Remember, the one thing that is always predictable is that life can be unpredictable.

After doing a fair amount of travel recently, I started thinking about why we crave predictability in all areas of our life. You depend upon it, but you may not notice how much you crave it until it’s absent. However, when things go awry, you find yourself suddenly grasping for stability. Predictability is why organization is essential. Building a schedule and structure around your day is another strategy to release mental clutter.
In this episode, I’ll give three reasons why predictability is a good thing, especially if you have an ADHD-oriented brain. I will share specific examples for each reason and actionable steps you can take to build a bit more predictability into your days. It’ll be a breeze because you’re more organized than you think. This episode is about why consciously defining the hours you're working on household responsibilities or care tasks matters. Women are raised to always be working and always giving our time to others. Therefore some unlearning of this pattern may be needed. First, I share why the idea of "working hours" at home is critically important. Then I'll share my experience, including exactly how I decided to define and implement the concept of working hours.
Whether you are an unpaid working mother at home or a paid working mother, actively setting boundaries on your working hours is truly essential to your mental and emotional well-being. Every minute you spend contributing to the success of your household is work. As a society, we are raised to believe that women's time is endless. This belief is one of the central issues, and it's the primary reason defining your working hours at home is essential.
I invite you to get curious about the number of hours each day you're currently working, paid and unpaid. Setting boundaries by explicitly outlining for others when you're working and when you're not, teaches them how to treat you and your time. Following this framework is hard, and feeling guilt or resistance is natural as you begin shifting your mindset. But if you are ready to change how you approach working hours at home and want support in this area of your life, I am excited to take that journey with you.
In the meantime ask yourself these questions to determine if your beliefs are aligned with how you want to be showing up:

In this episode, I discuss how to practically declutter and update your wardrobe from a mindset-based approach. I’m going to encourage you to look at your clothing from the point of view of the past, your current reality, and your future self.
Each set of objects holds a story or a memory, which is why they’re so difficult to get rid of. It’s also why it is easy to get bogged down in the swamp of indecision when cleaning out your closet. But, identifying and engaging with your feelings is the key to having permanent control over your space and belongings. An item earns its keep by giving you something in return for the space it currently occupies in your closet and life.
Clothing – or any item for that matter – is always auditioning FOR you, and this decluttering moment is a great time to see if it makes the cut. The process may be slow at first, but you’re more organized than you think. Keep going. Mindful decluttering of your wardrobe will help you get to know yourself better and redefine your priorities and values. This step is another powerful shift in mindset on your journey to embracing an organized life.

If you consider yourself sentimental or nostalgic, or if you find yourself resisting letting go of items, this episode will resonate. I outline the ways in which your brain structure and biological design influence the decluttering process. These factors play a significant role behind your motivation and the way you think about what you own. Your brain often acts on autopilot, giving you sneaky thoughts to keep you from letting objects go. For those of you seeking to understand more of the WHY behind your internal decluttering struggle, this will shine a light on what may be happening for you.
When I work with clients, we create awareness around which part of your brain is dominant when making decisions. So, I encourage you to take a moment to get curious the next time your brain lights up desiring a shiny new object.

When I started my journey as a caregiver, I wrote an influential essay entitled “The Way Dementia Moves In” and am proud to share it with all of you.
The analogy of dementia moving into a household is powerful. Dementia progresses slowly, adding clutter in small increments until it is suddenly everywhere. In this episode, I define mental clutter and why a calm and positive mindset is essential to creating an aligned and sustainable lifestyle. After years of working in-home as an organizer, I realized that our internal experiences profoundly affect our external reality. There is a common misconception that a tidy home guarantees a clear mindset. However, internal and external peace are not mutually exclusive. Unfortunately, you can have one without the other.
I offer several short and long-term strategies to help you listen in and have compassion for the soundtrack of to-do lists and overall noise running through your mind. Women are raised to always notice what needs to be done and anticipate what's next, and this is exhausting. I empower you to stop the hamster wheel of thoughts and allow yourself time to breathe. In this episode, I discuss how pre-project planning improves every organizational undertaking. The hardest part about starting a project is ACTUALLY starting it. Feeling overwhelmed about a project is normal and can lead to procrastination. Knowing where you want to go with a project is essential pre-work. Start by identifying the scope of work you want to accomplish. Then, pre-plan deadlines, expectations, and goals to help your brain create boundaries. As a result, it will be easier to get motivated, overcome distractions, and stay on track to complete your project on time.
In addition, I share four key questions that help you find purpose and clarity around the project you want to pursue. The four questions are:
Spend time with these questions to dive deeper into the emotional journey of your organizational project. Allow yourself to become curious about the why, what, and where. These answers will help you become more invested in what you set out to complete. This process is an essential step to pre-project planning and alleviates pressure and stress so that you can reframe your mindset.

In this episode, I debunk the myth of domestic perfection. We all have a vision of the “perfect” home. But there is no such thing as the perfect way to maintain a house. Every belief we hold about how our home should look or feel is based on societal messages.
We have tricked ourselves into believing domestic bliss is a clean, organized house with bins, labels, and baskets. But the feeling of “bliss” is made up! Even more so, tidiness does not equal happiness. I'm here to help you realize how patriarchal and misogynistic messaging has encouraged women to tie their value to how tidy and productive their homes are. This is false.
I empower you to shine a light on where your self-expectations originated. Together we will inspect how your socialization and upbringing affects your belief in what clean and organized means. Remember - there is no right way to keep a house; there’s only your way.

In this episode, I define the meaning of the word ‘clutter.’ I also talk about three ways clutter surfaces in your home.
Feeling uncomfortable is typical when we force ourselves to confront our stuff. Over time our brain naturally adjusts to being surrounded by clutter. It processes excess stimuli as being “normal.” Our brain tricks us into feeling like stuff just appeared in our home overnight.
Excess or overabundance is subjective. Your unwanted items may be someone else's treasure. Noticing how items arrive in your home will better empower you to take control. As the gatekeeper, you're in charge of what comes in and what goes out.
The clutter in your home didn't magically appear. You've actually allowed all in, one way or another. By increasing your awareness from this day forward, you can reclaim your space, let go of self-judgment, and make choices and change for the future.

In this episode, I share three reasons why we get caught thinking that our schedule and identity are intertwined.
Our society praises overworking and over-committing. Our culture emphasizes productivity, and as a result, we connect our busyness with our worth. I argue that you matter just by being you. How busy your schedule is or your ability to meet a million commitments is irrelevant to your worth. Overvaluing a packed schedule leaves no room for spontaneity or fun. Instead, we lose our identity in an endless stream of activities and never allow ourselves to rest.
Remember, work is work. Whether your schedule is filled with commitments for a paid job or unpaid labor like housework, childcare, and volunteering, being busy is not a marker of your self-worth. You are inherently valuable. Constantly working and always giving your time to others is a cycle we all fall victim to. I challenge you to acknowledge your role and your relationship to your schedule. Everything you do is a choice. Prioritize boundaries for your wellness because you matter whether you meet the commitments on your schedule or not.

In this episode, I talk about a central topic of decluttering: why you feel connected to items you own.
It's normal to feel strong emotions about your home. However, the organization and design of your space are morally neutral. We use invented societal standards to judge ourselves and our homes. But you are more than your stuff. It's necessary to unlearn this way of thinking and embrace that your things are just things; they aren’t who you are.
If you find it difficult to let go of what you own, I'll invite you to get curious about the stories of your past that may be tying you to your belongings. Your stuff does not control you.
In addition, I explain the three key reasons you feel a deep connection to items. By exploring the stories and your emotions, you'll be in a better position to make space for your future life ahead. In this episode, I share what it means to embrace an organized life. Organization, practically and in mindset, was my method to stay sane during the pandemic. Between work, home, and family, I had a lot of things going on. There were many moving parts.
Organization is more than tidy spaces. It starts within. What you experience internally shows up in your actions at home, at work, and with friends and family. My experience has shown me that internal work leads to long-lasting change.
This brings me to my belief that you're more organized than you think. You might be shaking your head, thinking, "Not me." But even if you can't see it, I DO. You are more organized than you think. However, negative self-thoughts can get in the way of seeing what is right in front of you. Remember, being organized or disorganized is a made-up concept! Seriously, you get to decide what 'organized' means in your life.
I will guide you through the five fundamental principles behind Embracing an Organized Life. The first is giving yourself permission to want change. My mission is to help you realize what is (or isn't) working in your life and embrace successes so that you can achieve future goals with grace and self-appreciation.
