A lawyer turned baseball broadcaster, this week’s guest, Marty Lurie has lived his life by following his passions. A Brooklyn native, Marty’s love of baseball took root early and never left. Through law school and opening his own practice in both Florida and California, baseball remained at the heart of Marty’s journey. In 1995, Marty’s love of baseball and storytelling led him to radio, where he began covering the Oakland A’s. Nearly 30 years and thousands of shows later, Marty is going stronger than ever covering the San Francisco Giants on KNBR 680. Marty tells us about his baseball-laden childhood in Brooklyn, what drew him to law, and the many connections he’s witnessed between baseball, law, and radio.

Herm played Cornerback for Cal and San Diego State before playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, and Atlanta Falcons. His transition to coaching propelled him to be the Head Coach of the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Coach Edwards gives us a crash course on his philosophy as a player and coach, explaining the well-known work ethic that got him to where he is. Our special 10th episode is getting nostalgic! Jalal Leach is best known for his 15-season long pro baseball career, but I know him best as my friend who grew up down the street. Jalal spent his childhood playing whatever sport was in season and loving them all. Fast forward, he’s playing college baseball at Pepperdine University before getting drafted by the Yankees. Jalal talks about the discipline and responsibility he was taught by his parents, his 12-year journey to the Majors, and the defining moment he was called up by the San Francisco Giants.
