How easy (or hard) is it to be honest with yourself? Do you berate yourself or are you your own best cheerleader? What's your self-talk like? If you have goals (and I hope you do), what happens when you don't accomplish them? These are important questions and ones I explore in today's episode!

This is a harder topic. Today I'm looking at the idea of addiction and aimlessness. I fall into this and it requires me to get really honest with myself. When was the last time you got real with yourself?

Excuse the background noise. 😜I'm reflecting on alignment and talking about how we need to understand we don't reach alignment and stay in alignment. We might reach it one day and get thrown off course the next day.Alignment isn't static. It's not a state we reach and stay in. It's a state we reach, re-reach and then reach again. Do you believe the journey is linear? If so, it's time to rethink your path. This is not one single hill. This is about constantly recalibrating and adjusting. Will you recalibrate this week, this month?

I've caught myself going inward lately. When I do this, it's often when I've been feeling overwhelmed. Going inward helps me focus. It also helps me process what's going on. Today I reflect on how going inward helps me stay on track. When do you go inward? Does it help you or hinder you? Would love to hear!

How many times have you started something and quit? How many times have you had to restart? What if you stopped quitting? What if you just kept going? What if you kept going because your life depended on it? I have started and stopped on many occasions. It's hard to get restarted. This time I plan to not quit. What's my secret? Surrounding myself with people who are also on the same path. Don't start with an end goal in mind. Start with your future self in mind. Start with how you want to feel when you reach 50 or 60 or 70. Start with thinking about your 80 year old self! Sometimes we need to embrace the mundane tasks of life. Lean into it. Learn to love it. You'll never regret investing in yourself in those ways!

What is the definition of agency? It is an action or intervention, it is an area where we wish to produce a particular effect. We can choose agency over many aspects of our lives but often we sit back and prefer not to act. Sometimes it's easier to complain or wallow than act. Have you ever felt that way? I know I certainly have! We might not have agency in all aspects of our lives but have you done a bit of an agency audit? Where can you increase agency? Where are you feeling out of control? What are some ways you might be able to choose agency or the ability to act, over choosing despair.

Today is a solo episode. I have had so many people reach out and ask, "How do you do it." How do you continue to show up for yourself? How did you get started? How do you keep going? People desperately want to make changes and feel better and yet something is keeping them stuck. I empathize with that sentiment. I lived it for YEARS!!! I had to finally be open to the idea that there was another possibility. I needed to get really honest with myself and come clean. I needed to set boundaries with my partner and myself. Take a listen, see if anything resonates for you.

Do you have questions about using inclusive language? Are you curious about pronouns and why they matter? Today I'm joined by Kate Barnes, a dear friend, who openly shares their journey. Kate also provides some helpful resources. All of them are linked in the show notes. Let's learn and unlearn together! Let's get intentional about our language!Resources mentioned in the episode: Differentiating between gender vs. sex vs. sexual orientation (Rainbow Health Ontario: https://www.rainbowhealthontario.ca/news-publications/glossary/) Practice exercises and worksheet (UNC): https://showyourlovetoday.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Pronoun-Practice.pdf   Unsure of conjugation for pronouns www.practicewithpronouns.com "Imagine a Pair of Boots" from Ivan Coyote's "The Slow Fix" Collection of Short Stories (available via London Public Library). There's an excerpt of their short story "By Any Other Name" linked here (choose "Read Excerpt (PDF)" button) that captures an example of someone who transfers their pain instead of transforming it. Resources not mentioned but equally helpful: Listen to people with lived experience. This includes people in your community who share similar contexts and includes more well-known folks beyond those contexts. Examples I follow include Alok Vaid-Menon (advocacy and stand-up comedy; website: https://www.alokvmenon.com, Insta: alokvmenon), Bob The Drag Queen (Drag Queen from Ru Pauls' drag race; Insta: bobthedragqueen, podcast: siblingrivalry), Mercury Stardust (advocate for making DIY in the home accessible, especially for women; website: https://mercurystardust.com, Insta: mercurystardusttopz, new book called "Safe and Sound"), Jeffrey Marsh (advocate and ....; Insta: thejeffreymarsh), Clara Olshansky (comic and writer; Insta: claraolshansky), and Sam Smith (Insta: samsmith; singer and songwriter). Do you ever say, I'll be happy when...Rather than waiting for happiness/ joy to arrive, what if you were in charge of curating it and bringing it into your daily practice? My husband turned to me one day about 10 years ago and said "I feel like I sucked the joy out of you." In that moment, I realized I had lost my way. It took me time but I'm happy to report joy and happiness can be created. Happiness isn't something we wait for. Happiness is finding joy in the small things. It's about gratitude. It's also about focusing on your daily habits and carving out space and time for YOU. This awareness has brought joy back into my life. I'm purposeful now about bringing joy into my life regularly. Are you intentional about doing this for yourself?

In this episode I'm joined by Bill Kelly from Bill Kelly Spirit Messages. Bill entered my life about 2.5 years ago (maybe 3.5) but who's counting. Meeting Bill has had a big impact on my life. He shares a little about his past and what brought him to his calling. He shares that we all have a choice to accept healing. Bill shares that when we accept healing, we become open to changing how we think about ourselves. Most of what keeps us stuck is our mindset and the stories we tell ourselves that keep us afraid of growing, changing and shining our innate light. Today I welcomed my first guest on the Podcast! Kelly Howard has over 25 years of experience coaching women. She helps them prioritize their fitness so they can feel great and have more fun in their 2nd act of life and beyond. Kelly is the Author of Fit, Active and Ageless for Life, just released this summer.

We chat about how being intentional leads to more freedom. She shares her insights into why it's essential to build in "play" time, wild card days and finding things that intrigue you. As women, we often focus too much on all of our responsibilities but to what end? Does it ever end? No! It's time to stop feeling guilty about scheduling in time for play.

Feeling frustrated and not sure what's going on? If you're anything like me, you turned 45 and all of a sudden you couldn't figure out what was going on with your energy and that extra weight around the middle. I had two babies and was able to lose that weight in a reasonable time but after 40 things changed. What I didn't realize is that we NEVER learned how to tap into nutrition to change things. I've been on a journey the past 18 months to learn all about how we can use food to heal ourselves. It's an inside job! Most of us (especially women) have been undereating for a very long time. We haven't been getting enough protein, healthy fats and fibre filled carbs to really fuel everything we do in a day. I'm at a healthy weight now, the strongest I've ever been and I'm eating a ton of food. I have lost 70 lbs! This hasn't been about restriction or intensive cardio. I don't even do high impact cardio. It's mostly nutrition, being intentional with my choices, doing strength training and some no impact cardio. At 50 I feel better than I did at 30! Your body is craving all kinds of sugar and processed carbs because it's lacking nutrients. Give it the proper balance of nutrients and it will be life changing. No joke! Stop stressing your body out by undernourishing it.

September is a busy time. It's stressful for many of us. I'm trying not to dwell in the overwhelm, although sometimes it gets the better of us. Take a listen to how I'm working through stress this month. I'd love to know what your strategies are! A group of us have started the Gut Protocol again and it has me thinking a lot about our food system and how much we're sold on "convenience" foods. Have you taken time to read labels and learn about them? Do you look at how much added sugar is in even "healthy foods?"

It this episode I talk about the Gut Protocol program and how it has helped me really learn what not only works for me. It has taught me so much about hidden ingredients and things we need to pay more attention to. Ever wonder why you have some extra weight around your belly? Feeling bloated? It could be an issue with insulin resistance and sugars hidden in your foods. Take a listen. If you'd like more info on the Gut Protocol, reach out. What are you holding onto that is no longer serving you? It's ok to admit it. We all do it. We hold on to thought patterns and ways of being because initially they maybe helped us but then we wake up one day and realize that it's no longer serving us and in fact, it is holding us back. This is your reminder to give yourself permission to let it go. Risk being human. Forgive yourself. Love yourself. I promise if you can begin to do this for yourself, life becomes a bit more meaningful and beautiful 🙏💗.

When we're young we take our mobility, our flexibility, our health and so much else for granted. Until one day we wake up and we realize things have changed. We struggle to get up off the floor. We have aches and pains everywhere. It starts slowly initially and then things seem to slide downhill quickly. Or at least that's what happened with me. Curious what you took for granted in your youth?

I did the Gut Health Protocol program a year ago and it was transformational. I didn't realize how much better I could feel with just a few tweaks to my nutrition. The challenge was for 30 days but what I learned will stay with me for a lifetime. Do you have heartburn, bloating, gas, poor sleep or are you lacking energy? Have you considered it might be caused by issues in your gut? What about inflammation? I had no idea how inflammation was impacting me. If you can relate to what I share, please reach out. I'd love to share more.

Some musings about the weather followed by thoughts conducting a relationship audit. Have you ever considered how much you are influenced by those you spend the most time with? It might be worth thinking about this and seeing if your relationships might be negatively impacting you.

Had an a-ha moment and I wanted to share. I've been so much better at causing pain than processing it and feeling it. Ive caused pain for myself and for those closest to me. I am breaking up with that pattern. It no longer serves me.

I've been sick the past few days but I'm this episode I share what's different this time. I haven't been sick in more than 14 months. I thought I had developed super human immunity. That's not the case but I am bouncing back much faster than I normally would. In this episode I share why I think that might be. I chat about gut health and why I now follow a nutrition program with my gut in mind.

Inner Critics, we all have them. Have you named your inner critic? If not, it's great if you can name it. It's suggested to name it after a fictional character. I met a woman while away who shared that the only voice she hears is her inner critic. She hadn't considered that there were other options. In this episode we explore commitments, accountability, community and inner critics.

How are you doing with building community? Do you have individuals around you that are positively impacting you? Are they lifting you up? Is this even something you have considered lately? Perhaps it's time to do a relationship check-up. Reflect on your community. Do you need to spend some time building relationships with people who are more positive and are functioning at a high vibration level? I know this was something I needed and didn't even know I needed. I was finding myself surrounded by too much negativity and it was impacting my mental health. I also realized that when I opened myself up and let people know I was working on my fitness and nutrition, it helped me achieve my goals and it helped me attract people with similar goals. It's hard to make friends as an adult but I highly recommend it! We need to build communities intentionally and not leave it up to chance. If you're feeling stuck and like you are in a rut, it might be time to reflect on who is around you. This episode shares what I've learned about building community and why it's so important.

My physical transformation has been truly massive (I've lost 70 lbs and more than 53" total body inches) but what you can't see from my photos, is my mindset shift. When we go inward and focus on our mindset, we begin to fully grasp our potential. It takes a lot of personal reflection, energy, personal development and a willingness to go there BUT it's totally worth it.

In this episode I talk about how I spent years (decades) cut off from my body and using disassociation as a coping strategy. I explore what has changed for me in the past 14 - 18 months and how I no longer wish to feel disconnected from myself. This episode talks about childhood sexual abuse and gender based violence. Our energy is one of our most precious resources. Just like our time, our energy can be shared. Have you reflected on how you protect your energy and how you ensure you have mechanisms in place to not only preserve your energy but build it up? How is your daily routine serving you and helping to protect your energy? If it is a precious resource, have you ever considered that you can choose to protect it? Maybe this means limiting your exposure to social media or not looking at the news headlines first thing in your day. Each of us know deep down what serves us and what is sucking energy away from us. Start paying attention to those cues. Journal about them and begin to make small changes that will hopefully end up not only protecting your energy but will provide nourishment for your energy and your soul. You'll learn about how making small changes in my morning routine has created huge dividends in my day to day life. I want this for you and for others. Let's create a ripple of positivity. As they say, "heal yourself, heal the world."

Welcome to Episode 1 of "Let's get Intentional." I am excited to be starting this journey into podcasting. I am a 49 year old woman living in Ontario, Canada. I have been on a midlife awakening journey for the past year. I turn 50 in June and I thought a podcast would be a great way for me to express some of what I'm learning with listeners. This episode talks a bit about my journey so far and what I've learned along the way. I hope that through my sharing, I may inspire others to embark on a path of growth and personal development. Be curious, lean into the discomfort and most of all, practice radical self compassion.
