Hey friend, this episode is going to be a little bit different! Think of it as you and I taking a long walk on the beach or sitting down over an acai bowl.
I'm sharing something I'm loving, something I'm learning, something I'm lamenting, something I'm leaning into, and something I'm letting go of. Because sometimes we just need to talk about ALL. THE. THINGS.

Do you ever wonder what you would do if you were faced with the atrocities of WWII? I do! Would I have stood by as millions of innocent victims lost their lives at the hands of the Nazi regime? Or would I have been one of the brave souls fighting for their freedom—even at the risk of my own life?
Join me for a fascinating conversation with one of my favorite authors! Mark Buchanan’s newest novel is based on the true story of a tiny French village that sheltered over 2,500 Jewish refugees during World War II. In our conversation, Mark unpacks what motivated these ordinary people to choose radical hospitality over safety.

Tears, regret, and long nights can make it feel like you’re sliding into a pit with no way out. I walk through Psalm 30 with you as a song of praise that tells the truth about suffering and still refuses to give up on joy, showing the God who heals, delivers, and restores life in the darkest places.
I look back at the women we’ve been studying and the ways God keeps meeting people who feel unseen or stuck: the hunched woman in Luke 13, Hagar, the bleeding woman, Leah, and Elizabeth. The thread running through every story is hope for healing and a reason to speak praise out loud, not just privately. God meets us in lament, restores what feels dead, and turns mourning into dancing.

She slumps into her seat in the back row, feeling out of place. Bent double, eyes on the ground, bound by eighteen years of oppression. The hunched woman from Luke 13 enters the synagogue, little knowing that an encounter with Jesus is about to set her free.
In this episode we meet one of the most overlooked women in all of scripture and discover what her healing on the Sabbath reveals about God's gift of rest, restoration, and freedom.

In Luke 1:5–80, we meet Elizabeth, who has long since given up hope of bearing a child. She and Zechariah are too old for their prayer to be answered. And in a culture where women were valued based on the number of sons they produced, Elizabeth feels the sting of shame. But God looks upon her and removes her disgrace. He gives her a child in her old age, who is not only the answer to her prayer, but also the answer to the prayers of all who are awaiting the Messiah.
Elizabeth's story is for anyone who feels behind on life’s timeline. She reminds us that God sees our shame and hears our prayers. He isn’t limited by things that might hold us back. He is the ultimate shame-lifter, and hope-giver. Where all feels barren, He can bring fruitfulness.

The story of the bleeding woman reveals Jesus' heart to heal not just our bodies, but our hearts and souls. After twelve years of suffering and isolation, an unnamed woman risks everything to touch Jesus' garment. When she tries to slip away unnoticed, Jesus stops and turns to find her—not to shame her, but to give her a new identity. He calls her "daughter", transforming her from a woman defined by an issue into a beloved child of God. This powerful encounter reminds us that we are seen, known, and loved by a Savior who sees us in our suffering.

Today I share one of my favorite Psalms of all time. During a painful season of my life, Psalm 63 became my lifeline. It helped calm my anxiety. It reminded me of God’s nearness. It brought about praise, despite pain.
As we walk through this powerful psalm, my hope is that if you’re navigating your own wilderness, you’ll be reminded that even in your most desperate moments, you will find yourself tucked under God’s wings, clinging to Him with all of your soul. And when you find that you can no longer hold on, you realize He’s been upholding you all along.

Have you ever felt discarded, rejected, or utterly forgotten? The story of Hagar speaks directly to that experience with a message of hope. Hagar's journey from rejected slave to personally encountered by God reveals a powerful truth: when the world walks away, God comes looking. He sees your tears, hears your prayers, and knows your name.
Her story reminds us that often our deepest encounters with God happen not in our moments of triumph, but in our experiences of abandonment and despair.

How do you feel about Mother's Day?
I have always been part of churches that sought to celebrate mothers. Honoring the women in our midst for the brave and difficult work of mothering is right and beautiful!
But it’s not that simple.
Mother’s Day has been a complicated holiday for many women. So much so, that they stay home from church on that day.
This year, I read a piece by Amy Young at the beginning of our service—words that acknowledged both the joy and the ache this day can carry. It resonated deeply with so many women, I decided to share it on the podcast.
Whether you love Mother’s Day or find it painful (or somewhere in between), I pray you’ll find today’s episode encouraging and insightful.

Pornography has invaded countless marriages, shattering trust and distorting God's beautiful design for sexuality. When 64% of Christian men struggle with porn, the ripple effects touch nearly every family and church community—yet we're keeping silent.
In Part 2 of our conversation, Jody Allen continues to share her journey after discovering her husband's pornography addiction. She begins with this powerful declaration: "We do not have to tolerate pornography in our relationships." This isn't about being judgmental or legalistic; it's about honoring God's design for marriage and setting healthy boundaries without apology.
Have you or someone you love been affected by pornography in your relationship? Share this episode with them—breaking the silence is often the first step toward healing.

I know Jody Allen’s story will speak deeply to many of you. Despite years of counseling and intensive treatment, her husband ultimately chose pornography over his marriage, his children, and his family. After a long and painful struggle, Jody’s marriage ended in divorce.
Without minimizing the deep pain of her journey, Jody shares the countless ways God has shown Himself faithful. In part one of our conversation, she offers heartbreaking statistics, reveals the warning signs of porn addiction, and shares two powerful mantras that helped carry her through.
She reminds us that while we may not choose our circumstances, we always have agency in how we respond. Most importantly, her journey reminds us that healing is possible, hope is real, and God's love is strong enough to meet us in every broken place.

This week we continue our transformative conversation about sexual wholeness from a Christian perspective with Dr. Carol Tanksley. If you haven't heard Part 1 yet, listen here. Whether you're single, struggling with shame about your sexual past, or simply trying to understand how sexuality fits within your faith journey, this episode offers wisdom and practical guidance. Sexual wholeness begins with accepting this invitation to "just come" as you are, trusting that Jesus will meet you with gentleness and guide you toward healing.

Sexual brokenness often begins with wounds we don't want to face. Dr. Carol Tanksley, OBGYN physician turned ordained minister, draws from 30 years of medical practice and her own journey to explore how our personal stories shape our sexual decisions. Dr. Carol directs our attention to what Jesus emphasized most - the condition of the heart. While behaviors certainly have consequences, lasting transformation begins with addressing the wounds, lies, and empty places in our souls that drive our choices. Your story matters, and God wants to meet you exactly where you are.

Breaking free from pornography addiction is not an overnight process but a journey—one that requires understanding, support, and a deep commitment to healing. This is Part 2 of my conversation with Dr. Juli Slattery (if you haven't heard Part 1, you can find it here). Today we explore the complex nature of sexual brokenness and the path toward wholeness that's available to everyone, regardless of their past or present struggles.

In this episode, I speak with Dr. Juli Slattery about the growing issue of pornography addiction among women. We discuss how the porn industry has intentionally targeted women, the shame that keeps many trapped in silence, and the neurological and emotional factors that make it difficult to break free. Dr. Slattery shares insights from her book Her Freedom Journey, co-authored with Dr. Joy Skarka, which provides practical and biblical guidance for women seeking freedom from pornography. The conversation highlights the importance of surrendering to God's grace rather than simply trying harder and encourages women to find hope, healing, and community in their journey toward sexual wholeness.

I say I trust God. I want to trust God. But when it comes down to it, I often grasp for control. Especially when things feel so utterly out of control. Does that sound familiar to you?
Today, I continue my conversation with Lori Ann Wood. Her words bring comfort, grace, and healing to anyone who is walking a path they wish they weren't. (Which happens to all of us at one point or another.)
Lori Ann encourages us to lean into our questions, wrestle with our faith, and keep our eyes fixed on our eternal hope. These aren't churchy platitudes, but words of a woman who has fought long and hard to hold on to her faith through the darkest seasons of her life.

Today, we're wrapping up our Love Story series. If you haven't yet listened to the first three parts of this amazing, epic story, I encourage you to go back to and listen to part one, two, or three. Trust me—you don't want to miss anything!
Did you know that “happily ever after” didn't actually originate in a fairy tale? It's true! God is writing a love story so glorious and beautiful, that we—His kids—can't even begin to imagine what's to come.
As we talked about earlier in this series, knowing the beginning of our story helps us understand the context of what's happening right now. But knowing the end of our story? That gives us strength, hope, and courage to face anything this life throws at us. Because no matter what, we can have confidence that the best is yet to come!

I get so excited talking about the great Love Story God is writing! Today is Part 3—my favorite part of the story—where God comes to our rescue! In this episode, we'll hear from several women in Scripture whom God rescued, redeemed, restored, and brought into a relationship with Himself. And we'll see how He longs to do the same for each of us.
Keep in mind, the audio quality is a little different since this was originally recorded on my iPhone at a retreat I spoke at in Michigan in 2021. But stick with me—this is one episode you won't want to miss!

Do you wonder why life hurts so much? Do you feel the ache and wonder where it comes from? God addresses our pain with clarity and comfort. He doesn't shy away from it. And He isn't standing by, watching the world unravel—He's pursuing us with steadfast love and faithfulness. Hope comes from getting to know the One writing our story.
As I shared last week, this series comes from a women's retreat I spoke at in 2021. These recordings were captured on my iPhone, so the sound quality isn't perfect—but stick with me! God's Word is powerful, even if it comes through a little fuzzy.

Do you know you've been born into the midst of an epic love story? Think about your life. It's a mixture of love and loss, joy and sorrow. You'll encounter heroes and villains, and seemingly endless plot twists. And despite the way your life looks or feels, there is a happily forever after coming. Maybe you're praying and waiting for things to get better. Maybe you've lost hope they ever will. This series is for you!
Over the next 4 episodes, I'm sharing a special treat with you! Back in 2021, I spoke at a women's retreat in Lake Ann Michigan This is one of my favorite message series I've ever brought to a group of women. I'm taking those recordings and sharing them on the podcast! Please note: I recorded them on my iPhone (and I am no tech geek), so the sound quality isn't super great! But please stick with me because these messages will help you make sense of your life.
Today, (in Part 1) we look back to the beginning of our story. Because knowing how it all began, helps us make sense of what is happening today.

We are jumping right into the middle of my conversation with Sandy Cooper. If you missed Part 1, you’ve got to listen to that first! As we continue to talk about abiding in Christ, Sandy shares practical tips on what it looks like to abide in the vine, what pruning looks and feels like, and how to hear God’s voice. I have replayed Sandy's closing words multiple times because what she says at the end of this episode is so powerful.

Forgiveness is the foundation of our faith. Without being forgiven by God, we are hopeless. And then we take that forgiveness that we have been given, and we extend it to other people. That’s easy to say, and really hard to do, which is why I invited author and forgiveness coach Nicole Williams onto the episode today. Nicole is going to share with us practical ideas, heart work, and hard work that we can do to take that journey of forgiveness.

One More Child is a nonprofit organization working on the front lines to push back the darkness in multiple areas. One of the things they do is help rescue children from sex trafficking.
When we first moved to Florida three years ago, I took a job with One More Child. That’s where I met Christi Haag. Her husband, Dr. Jerry Haag, is the president of One More Child. Christi is a fearless trailblazer in Christian orphan care, humanitarian aid, and global ministry. Christi has led missions around the world. She has eaten scorpions in China, fed children in Africa, and ministered to sex-trafficked children in leper colonies in Southeast Asia.
Christi has been featured on TV, radio, and podcasts; in videos and magazines; and as a keynote speaker for events and conventions. I appreciate Christi and the work she is doing alongside One More Child to make a difference in the lives of so many women, children, and families. Today, we talk about those who have experienced sexual brokenness and shame in profound ways. And how we can make a difference in the lives of those who have experienced trafficking. Yes, it’s a difficult conversation to hear. But please stick around because it might make a difference in the life of someone you know.

My guest today shares a story that is all too common for so many women. It’s the story of discovering her husband’s marital betrayal. This is part one of our conversation. We talk about what does a woman do when she is in the early stages of her journey. We talk about how God sustains women. And what about the woman who decides to stay? If you or someone you know has walked through marital betrayal, would you be willing to share this episode with them? Have you ever seen that popular sign "She Believed She Could, So She Did"? Does that message resonate with you, or do you ever wonder if it is really true? Women are told that we can do and be whatever we want. It is a message of female empowerment. But what is female empowerment, and is it biblical? Today I have a conversation with my friend and author Becky Beresford, who shares an important message about biblical, Christ-centered empowerment. Click here for show notes.

How do you define love? I think love can be defined by presence. That’s why my favorite name for Jesus, which we hear often during Advent but not very much at other times of the year, is "Immanuel” (God with us). Christ coming to earth to dwell among us is the perfect embodiment of what love is. Today is our final Advent episode and the last episode of 2023.

I think the promise of God's peace is meant to be ours even when life is busy and hectic. When the kids are sick and the car breaks down. And especially during those times when we need it most - when we walk through grief and loss, face a scary diagnosis, or are working through relational heartbreak. That is when the peace of god is most needed.

Beth Claes has a website titled Wrestled Faith. This has been her lived experience. Beth was a psychology professor for ten years and has shifted her profession to Biblical Counseling. We have a fascinating conversation about Beth’s journey, the importance of worldview, how to counsel others, what the Bible says about people’s real-life problems, and, of course, hope! As we spoke, I was struck by Beth’s graciousness, wisdom, and humility. She is a woman worth listening to.
About Beth Claes:
Beth Claes is the director of counseling at New Heights Church in Vancouver, Washington. She has a doctorate in psychology and practiced from a traditional psychological perspective for ten years before shifting to a gospel-centered counseling approach. In addition to leading New Heights Counseling, Beth is a trainer for the Association of Biblical Counselors and has written several articles for The Gospel Coalition. More of her writing can be found on her blog Wrestled Faith. Beth is married and has three children.

Enter the world of two daughters whose lives have been transformed by their encounters with Jesus. We've been talking about what it's like when God holds you together when life falls apart, or when things aren't going the way you hoped or the way you planned. We've talked about how we are held in God's mighty arms. He carries us and hides us under the shadow of His wings. There are also times when all it takes is a touch from Jesus, and that changes everything. This story in Scripture will remind us of the healing that comes through Jesus' touch. Together we will draw strength from His words, "Do not fear, only believe."

We live in a world driven by the desire to be seen and celebrated. We want to be extraordinary. Our world tries to convince us that our value lies in how we perform, what we look like, or how talented we are. But when we study scripture, it becomes evident that God delights in using ordinary people.
As we wrap up the book of Ruth, we see God using two ordinary women to build His kingdom in ways they never could have imagined.
So, maybe we don’t need to be seen and known by hundreds of people. Maybe we don’t need a blue checkmark by our name on Instagram or millions of views on TikTok. Maybe God is working out His plans and purposes in and through us as we work and live and pray in our own little corner of the world. And maybe He is using our ordinary lives in ways we cannot see.

We sometimes think of life as a fairy tale. We desperately want to experience our happily ever after. But the truth is: Life is war. And we are equipped because we are warriors.
But more important than our ability to withstand the battles of life is the undeniable truth that we are held secure in the arms of our victorious Savior.
Today, we continue the story of Ruth & Naomi and see them as warriors battling for the kingdom of God and being held securely in His strong arms.
Mentioned on the Show:
See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart...

Today, I’m talking with Nancy Manassero about her new book, Heartmending: God Can Heal Your Heartbreak From Sexual Abuse. There are so many women with stories of sexual abuse and brokenness who are willing to tell their stories. What I love about Nancy is that she not only shares her story with vulnerability and honesty… but she points her reader to the hope and healing of Jesus. And that is what we talk about on this podcast!

After sixty years in Southern California, Nancy and her husband Tom relocated to the woods of Port Orchard, Washington, in 2018. They enjoy hiking, hanging out with their five grandchildren, and RV-tripping with their dog Rosie.

TODAY IS THE DAY!!!! 🥳
Graced: How God Redeems and Restores the Brokenis officially available for purchase on Amazon!!
Today I'm celebrating the launch of Graced. My friends Courtney and Christina join me to discuss what they have been learning from this Bible study. We've been working through it at our local church.
We share answers to questions such as,
It might surprise you to find stories of sexually broken women all over the pages of Scripture. Their stories aren't tucked away in hidden corners but take center stage. These are women God sought out and invited into His family. These are women Jesus befriended. He lifted them from shame and restored their dignity.
Graced invites women to dive deep into the Bible and discover the heart of God toward six broken women in Scripture. (Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba, the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery, and the sinful woman at Simon's house) Their stories resonate with modern-day readers and offer hope and healing to you and the women you love.
So, what are you waiting for?

Today I speak with my good friend, Angie Baughman. Angie is a kindred spirit who understands that life is HARD. In the hard, she encourages us to focus our hearts on God’s faithfulness! Angie honestly shares her story of sexual brokenness and her journey toward healing. She talks about the power of self-care, staying in God’s word, and telling ourselves the truth. She beautifully identifies with the sinful woman at Simon’s house. A woman who was disposable to the men around the table. And yet was accepted and embraced by Jesus.
I recorded this episode a few months ago. And as I re-listened to it for editing, I was so encouraged by Angie’s honesty, her love for Jesus, and her willingness to be vulnerable for your sake. You are going to be so blessed by today’s episode!!

Psalm 103
1Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
2Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
3who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
4who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6The LORD works righteousness
and justice for all who are oppressed.
7He made known his ways to Moses,
his acts to the people of Israel.
8The LORD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9He will not always chide,
nor will he keep his anger forever.
10He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him.
14For he knows our frame;a
he remembers that we are dust.
15As for man, his days are like grass;
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
17But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
and his righteousness to children’s children,
18to those who keep his covenant
and remember to do his commandments.
19The LORD has established his throne in the heavens,
and his kingdom rules over all.
20Bless the LORD, O you his angels,
you mighty ones who do his word,
obeying the voice of his word!

There is a story in the New Testament about a woman whose life was marked by sin, shame, and disgrace. But when she encountered Jesus, He lifted her, honored her, and turned toward her. That is the posture of God. His heart always turns toward the sinner. In love, in redemption, and with a desire to rescue.
This woman challenges us to consider how we respond to God's grace. Her actions toward Jesus are a beautiful, shameless display of uninhibited worship!

Show Notes:**When we are feeling miserable, we want to know how we can fix it, and the sooner, the better. Just give me six steps to follow, a self-care routine, or some positive affirmations I can repeat to myself. But Confession & repentance? That’s not what we’re looking for.
Psalm 32 beautifully walks us through the process of moving from guilt, bondage, and misery to forgiveness, freedom, and celebration. God has given us repentance as a gift! It’s the hinge on which forgiveness turns, and it might be the missing ingredient in your life.
Important Note: If you were a victim of sexual abuse, rape, assault, or other criminal activity, it was not your fault. I know from experience that Satan will try to twist your victimization into condemnation. He will make you feel dirty, guilty, and ashamed of yourself. Those are lies from the enemy of your soul. Any unwanted, uninvited sexual experience forced upon you is not your guilt to bear. Mentioned on the Show:Episode 17: The Woman Caught in Adultery Psalm 32 (ESV):
1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man (or woman) against whom the LORD counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried upb as by the heat of summer. Selah
5 I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly
offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
they shall not reach him.
7 You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
or it will not stay near you.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

When you hear about someone struggling with something that seems pretty black and white to you, do you lean more toward truth or grace? Would you be the first to run to her with words of comfort and encouragement or with hard, but honest advice? Jesus is the perfect embodiment of grace and truth. When a woman is brought to Him who has been caught in a sin punishable by death, His response silences an angry mob. In this stunning scene, we watch as waves of grace and truth flow from Jesus onto a sexually broken woman. His grace spares her life and sets her free from shame. And His truth frees her from her sinful lifestyle.
The story of the woman caught in adultery is found in John 8:1-11

Show Notes:Where do you turn on your most desperate days? Those days when your heart is broken and you can't stop crying? And why are we so afraid of our tears? The writers of scripture knew how to express grief. We could learn so much from them about how to lament. Join me in walking through Psalm 42... a Psalm full of hope for when life hurts!
Psalm 42 (ESV):To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah.
1As a deer pants for flowing streams,
so pants my soul for you, O God.
2My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?b
3 My tears have been my food
day and night,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
4 These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I would go with the throng
and lead them in procession to the house of God
with glad shouts and songs of praise,
a multitude keeping festival.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation 6and my God.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
7Deep calls to deep
at the roar of your waterfalls;
all your breakers and your waves
have gone over me.
8By day the LORD commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
9I say to God, my rock:
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning
because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10As with a deadly wound in my bones,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me all the day long,
“Where is your God?”
11Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you in turmoil within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my salvation and my God.

Do you ever feel as though you aren’t worthy? Do you fear that if people in the church knew your past sins or current struggles, you’d be on the outside looking in? If so, read the following story and be amazed. It’s about you. And it’s about me. It’s about how every single one of us is pursued by Jesus right where we are.
This story is found in John 4:1-42. The woman at the well holds out her empty cup to man after man, hoping one of them will fill her heart. And then Jesus comes. He seeks her out and reveals Himself as the answer to every desire. His mercy and grace heal her deepest wounds. He overflows her empty cup with Himself—pure, clean, refreshing living water.

In this episode, I dispel 12 common myths about forgiveness and replace them with Biblical truth. If you are bound up in bitterness, unwilling to forgive someone who has wounded you, listen in for some hope-filled encouragement.

Psalm 23 is probably the best-known passage in the Old Testament. Definitely Best known Psalm… We often turn to it for comfort and hope during times of loss. This psalm pours light into the dark and hurting soul. It is a hopeful song of God’s presence and abundant provision in our time of need.
A Psalm of David.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

The story of David and Bathsheba, found in 2 Samuel 11-12, has long been misunderstood and misrepresented in many church traditions. Even some translations of Psalm 51 imply they “committed adultery.” However, a careful study of Scripture never portrays Bathsheba as complicit. David, king of Israel, rapes Bathsheba, and she becomes pregnant. The king then murders her husband and marries her to cover up his lustful crime. The child they conceived on that tragic night dies as a baby.
And yet, after experiencing these painful life events, God restores Bathsheba. She becomes a strong, honorable, and courageous woman found in the line of Jesus. Though if you search Matthew chapter one, you might miss her.
"And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah" (Matthew 1:6b (ESV)
Far from being a dishonor to Bathsheba, God seems to be saying, "Bathsheba, I see you. I remember your story. I honor your story." And friend, He knows your story too. He hasn't forgotten. And He is eager to restore your brokenness as well!

Join me as I speak with my friend, Brenda Stewart, LMHC. Brenda brings both personal and professional experience to the show. She honestly shares how early sexual abuse led to an eating disorder during her college years. After overcoming incredible odds, God directed her into the field of counseling. She now provides therapy for women who struggle with sexual trauma, eating disorders, and anxiety. As we spoke, I couldn't help but think of Joseph’s words in Genesis 50:20 (NLT), "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." What Satan meant for evil in Brenda's life, God is using to do so much good!!

The story of "Rahab the Prostitute" provides hope and freedom for those struggling under the heavy weight of shame. Where does shame originate? Why is it so pervasive? And how do we break free from it?
Something must have gone tragically wrong in Rahab’s life. Who told her she wasn’t worthy of love and respect? Was she abused to the point that she couldn’t see the value of her body? Had Rahab resigned herself to this sin-cursed profession, or was she hoping to someday free herself? And could she ever have imagined the Hero who would come to her rescue?

Sometimes we look around, and it seems like evil is winning. We wonder why God allows the wicked to prosper while the righteous suffer. But when we follow the story to the end, we are assured that God has the final say. Psalm 57 reminds us of the sovereignty of God and helps us trust His good and gracious plans during our darkest days.

In Genesis 38, we read the story of Tamar, a woman who was sexually used, abused, and tossed aside. At first glance, her story seems like a modern-day mini-series with a questionable rating. Yet it is woven with threads of grace, redemption, and hope. There is so much more to her than we might understand with a cursory reading of her story. Tamar shows us what it means for a woman to be a warrior, fighting for the kingdom of God. Her story reminds us that God’s ways are higher than our ways. And He is bigger than the sins, mistakes, and violations committed against us. Anyone who thinks the Bible is a boring book full of outdated stories has not read the tale of Judah and Tamar.
