It was a non-working day holiday last Tuesday, so it was definitely a day out for me. For a long time in 2 years, I had gone to an island-hopping again. It was definitely relaxing, and helping me gain composure, the kind of thing I want and need.

I got that island hopping invitation from a best friend a few weeks ago. It was a holiday, I didn't have to work. So I gave it a full nod, of course!

It was my best friend's uncle's 50th birthday. The original plan was to just have a simple gathering in her uncle's residence. However, when the day was nearing, there was a change of plan - from their residence to a beach adventure.

Moving forward, this is how we spent the holiday.

Getting There

We left home at 9:30 in the morning and headed directly to Marigondon port in Lapu-Lapu City. We are all just from Lapu-Lapu City, so it only took us less than 30 minutes to go there via private cars.

So here are the things:

  • If that would be your first time in Lapu-Lapu, you can just take a taxi directly to the Marigondon Port, which means a lesser hassle on your end.
  • Or, if you are on a more budget trip, you could just ride a jeepney to Marigondon. Just tell the driver to drop you at the Marigondon crossing. And from there, take a Tricycle to the port.

From the crossing, it would normally take 5 minutes to reach the port.

At The Port

The port was packed with boats and people, all sailing for island hopping. It was like the COVID is over. But despite the little anxiety, I somehow felt happy seeing a big crowd all trying to get back to normal - no shield and mask in the water.

Our boat was already there when we arrived. "Giobani" is its name. It was a medium-sized boat that could cater to a maximum of 20 persons, and we were just 18, so it's much better.

We still waited for about 10 minutes to finally onboard the boat. There was like light traffic at the sea, the boats scattered everywhere while waiting for their guests. Every boatman too was waiting for their turn when could they dock closer to pick their passengers.

The Quick Boat Trip

As everyone was finally settled on the boat, we right then started drifting away from the port. The sea vibe was just so therapeutic - the breeze that was so calming, and the water splashes that were so entertaining.

As we continued to drift to our first stop, the gradual shift of the tint of the water from all the shades in between blue and green fascinated me a lot, like really! It made me appreciate more the majesty of God, and the wonders of His hands. How majestic are His creations!

Also, as we were getting farther from the port, the water had become clearer that the colorful fishes under were very much visible. What a sight to behold.

Gilutongan Channel

I never knew the entire itinerary, all I knew was we would be all routing from islet to islet in the Olango group of islands.

So after more or less 30 minutes of floating away from the port, we reached our first stop. It was somewhere in the Gilutongan channel.

Like the other islet in Olango, Gilutongan is also known for its fresh, clean, and unspoiled water. It is also very much considered a good site for diving. It boasts its vibrant marine life that one would surely enjoy, especially the divers.

When we reached the place, all except for the senior ones, were like having no second thought, and immediately jumped off the boat. We had our life jackets and snorkels tho.

Swimming with us were the fishes in different cheerful colors. They were very much entertaining that I had been tempted to try catching them, but good thing I failed. So I just grabbed some bread to feed, and there, I had gathered them nearer me.

After some time in the water, we climbed back into the boat and took our lunch. We rested for a while, and went to swimming again. Then, a boatman from afar who was like boastfully dragging his Banana boat around, came closer and offered us a ride for $5 per head for 30 minutes. We grabbed the offer right then.

We were in two batches since the Banana boat could only accommodate a maximum of 7 persons at a time. So I was in the first batch.

And here's what happened.

Last Monday after attending a Mental Health Awareness seminar, I and my workmates slash close friends went out for dinner somewhere near my place, to also have some sort of catching up over food as for the past few months, that was the only day that our schedules met since the start of the alternative work arrangement.

We agreed to go back to our all-time favorite Korean BBQ house that was just a few meters away from where we had our seminar. We had Samgyupsal, our top pick when it comes to grilled food. We hadn't done this kind of thing - like talking while busy grilling the food over fire, for quite a long time. Good thing, we all had the seminar on the same day.

We went to Goryeo, the name of the BBQ house. We arrived there at half-past 4 in the afternoon. We were the only diners at that time. It was a Monday then, so it was somehow expected.

Goryeo is just a small Korean BBQ house located at Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City, besides Shangs Island Town Center, and across Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark. This tiny house is just along the main road, making it very much visible, and easier to find.

Let's go inside! Goryeo really has just a limited space that it could only cater to a maximum of 16 pax at a time. It only has 8 small tables for two arranged in rows, maximizing the restaurant's tiny space.

As I entered the house, the very first thing that I had noticed was their floating shelves displaying different kinds of Island souvenir items from snack packs to herbal items.

At the rear side is Goryeo's secret-like little kitchen with a tiny door that somewhat blends in with the wall, making it not so much noticeable. The first time I went there, I was really wondering where their kitchen is up until staff came out from a corner which I thought was just a part of the entire wall. Or, I was not just paying much attention to things in there that time.

Near the door to the kitchen is their washing area, where they had the portable sink. And beside it is another shelf made of glass displaying their varied kinds of food supplements, organic body soaps, and similar others.

Goryeo's Menu Goryeo offers a wide array of Korean food selections that definitely taste nothing but authentic Korean dishes. They have the famed Unlimited Samgyupsal which comes with a bowl of seafood soup and plates of tasty side dishes.

The side dishes included the pickled yellow and white radish, Japchae (Glass noodle), Kimchi, Rolled egg, Fish cake, and Brown sugar-coated Sweet Potato.

And of course, the Samgyupsal serving would never be complete without the Lettuce, Garlic, Finger pepper, and condiments like Ssamjang and Gochujang.

Included also in this unlimited meal are unlimited bowls of rice.

Aside from the most availed unlimited Samgyupsal in Goryeo, they also offer Korean specials in Ala carte. They have Tteokbokki, Korean Fried Chicken, Kimbap, Bibimbap, and some others. Well, they also include in their menu Filipino dishes like Sizzling Sisig, Butter Sauce Shrimp, Calamares, and more.

Dinner Time! As I had mentioned earlier, we had Samgyupsal. Per head, we paid Php 330.00. Not bad for all the side dishes that come with the set, plus they're unlimited which definitely means your tummy is your boss, you can ask and ask till you're full.

By the way, their Samgyupsal also comes with plain and marinated Chicken. That's definitely a plus for the choices.

Now, if I were to rate the Samgyupsal restaurants I've been to from 1 as the most favorite to 5 as the least, I would give 1 to Goryeo.

Goryeo's Samgyupsal Rates:

LUNCH

Php 299.00 - Monday to Thursday

Php 330.00 - Friday - Sunday

DINNER

Php 330.00 - Monday to Sunday

That would be all for now. Thank you for your time. Until the next one! Keep safe!

I'm a lazy bum. I felt so unproductive for a couple of weeks now. I got a pile of workload to finish, but then chose not to work on them, for nothing. I am just on my couch, slouching like there's none to do, feelin' the gloom the weather poured.

However, my brain is enthusiastic, it thinks so much - finish this, finish that, do this, do that. It's busy. But it never had convinced this lazy ass up. And If I'm to count the number of hours I slept after work? It exceeded the normal range that normal people usually spend for sleep. Well I am not saying I'm not normal, but yes. . .

I got a mountain of clothes to fold, and that is not usual of me. It's been two weeks that I keep junking newly cleaned clothes in the corner, and act like they are not very much visible. I got a tiny room to at least sweep and dust off every day, but I'm like not even bothered by the cobwebs starting to form, hanging undisturbed. I got paperwork to accomplish, but it seems like "I'll do it tomorrow" is limitless and endless as If I don't have deadlines to beat. I even seem to forget my before-bed routine - washing and freshening up, I just go and lay on my back, extend my spine, and sleep as if the mind is peaceful empty.

I know I am not the usual "Me". I am maybe just tired of that usual, or just too overwhelmed with the tasks that are never-ending. Or both mayhap? Well whatever that is, the bottom line is, I lost track. And that is certainly what I feel.

It's weekend, the weather is as bad as what I feel. It's pouring sadness, causing laziness, and making me stay to where I am for two weeks unproductive. The best friend called, inviting me for a quick road trip to anywhere the wheels would take us to. I refused as hard as I could, for the reason that I'm not too well, emotionally. I know I am just feeding the feeling, making me bottle myself up in a scene where I have control over.

I get up, dress up, and drive to fetch my best friend to where she is. My playlist is on, playing the songs I called "life music". I am on a road trip, a place I am not supposed to be in this day. I see a clear picture of myself lying on my couch, scrolling my phone, watching randoms - the very place I should be in at the moment.

The best friend keeps talking about kinds of stuff, her work, side hustle, and everything random. I listen, but not attentively. I share some of mine too tho.

We've crossed the bridge, like literally a bridge that connects our city to the other. The road is dry. And it's getting hotter. I put off my jacket, fix my hair, and there, start to release and let go of the hard feeling and negative emotions that are like swallowing me up. I am too much consumed dwelling in these emotions I could just shake off.

We have reached IL Corso at Cebu City, we stop and fill our growling stomach. I have pizza from Butterbean, and some sweet tooth too.

We stay on the bench fronting the ocean. It's shedding calm and peaceful vibes. It's a breath of fresh air, something therapeutic, mentally and emotionally.

I sit quietly, trying to rewire my brain composedly. First time on this day, I initiate a convo on everything random, and start to gain back my normal bubbly self.

We head home. I am on the passenger seat. The best friend drives. The music is on again, playing one of my favorite songs "Grace" by Laura Story. I'm like having a karaoke carpool. I sing my heart out. I have fun!

The sky is getting grey. It starts to drizzle. The rain is coming our way. It rained as I left home, and it rains again as I am heading home. But this is a perfect weather, I mean it has become a perfect weather for me now - to rest, recharge, and rest - all to fully gain the self back.
