Today's episode is on Vindolanda Museum and Archaeological site. I visited the site back in June 2013 and it was very beautiful. The archaeologist who led the tour was very knowledable. So I highly recommend taking the tour if you can. The site is also close to Hadrian's wall so it's a great detour for those who are interested in walking the length of the wall. I would definitely recommend getting a car to get around the various forts near the Hadrian's wall especially if you are not interested in walking.
Some famous items found in Vindolanda include the Vindolanda tablets (they were the oldest written document found in the UK at one point) and boxing gloves. Further excavations have also yielded shoes, combs, knives and skeletons of various domesticated and wild animals that indicate that the fort was big and encoporated families of soldiers. One of tablets include a party invitation from a wife of a soldier to another! The tablets are now in the British Museum in London.

3) The Old Cheese Shop - founded in the 1870s by the #duke of #Devonshire and is one of the 3 sources of Stilton production in the area. It also produced its unique Dovedale #cheeses and others like Buxton #bluecheese. Visit their website for more info: https://www.hartingtoncheeseshop.co.uk/
4) Hartington Railway Station - a disbanded railway station that was opened in 1899. Services ceased in 1954 due to low passenger numbers and the line was lifted in 1964. Most of the line is now part of the #tissingtontrail. For more info visit: https://hartingtonhistorygroup.uk/hartington-station/
5) Tissington Trail - a 13 mile (21km) bridleway, footpath and cycleway that incoporates a lot of villages like Tissington and Hartington. It is suitable for wheelchair users, cyclists and walkers due to it firm crushed-limestone surface. The trail passes through the Hartington Railway Station and much of the old train line is part of the trail. 6) High Peak Trail - a 17 mile (27 km) trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. It follows the trackebed of the former Cromford and High Peak Railway. 7) Arbor Low Stone Circle and Gib Hill Barrow - a well preserved Neolithic henge that contains 50 large limestone blocks. Most are lying flat apart from one that is still standing. Discounts are available for those under 26 years of age. It is situated close to the University of Bath.

In this episode, I talk about the #history of the city #Oxford. Famed for its university, the #UniversityofOxford, this unique city is an architectural delight. It is not a particulary big city so you only need a few days to explore this city. There is more to this city than what I have included in this video so I hope you find something you like! A lot of the museums are free to visit so do check them out. I also recommend the sighseeing buses (also called hop-on-hop-off) bus tours if you want to travel around the city with a live guide. There are a few companies that offer this scheme and the hop-on-hop-off company is the one I used. They run the red double decker tour buses.
Places of interest: Oxford Castle and Prison, Christ Church College and Cathedral, Ashmolean Musuem Oxford, Oxford Musuem of Natural History, Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford Botanic Garden and Bodleian Library
Oxford also has a connection to #lotr and #narnia as J.R.R. Tolkein and C.S. Lewis worked at the University of Oxford as collegues and as Professors. They often exchanged ideas in the local Oxford pub 'The Eagle and the Child' that is situated in St Giles Street. Do visit if you can.
The Oxford Visitor Information website has information on all the attractions in Oxford so do check them out. They also have hotel and restaurant recommendations that cater for everyone.

Birmingham was one of the hubs for the Industrial Revolution and the Midlands Revolution. Remants of this history still remain in the many museums and educational instituations. The Christmas markets during December are also well worth a visit and definitely helps put you in the #Xmas spirit.

Just remember to get a day pass. I vsited Hanley, one of the 6 towns that forms Stoke-on-Trent on numerous occasions when I studied at Keele University as it was the main city centre.

Hello! Here is my latest video podcast. This is the 3rd episode on the 'History Musings' series and the topic of discussion is Keele University. My last episode was on the parish village of Keele and today's episode is the continuation of Keele. I did my first degree in Keele and had a memorable few years there so I thought I will create a video to show you the university.

I highly recommend visiting Keele on the open days if you are planning to apply there. A lot of students are surpised by how remote and rural it is as most come from bigger cities that have better convenient access to shops and transport links. Keele is a village and though buses are frequent (every 10 mins or so), they can still be delayed due to traffic and breakdown of vehicles. But still the university is well connected.
I forgot to add - the university also gets a farmers market every Tuesdays. You can pick up a lot of vegetables there. But it is recommended to go into Newcastle-under-Lyme if you wanted to do a bigger shop.

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my first ever video podcast! It is my first rambling video episode on the city of Chester. History is one of my interest and I thought I will create a video podcast on this channel using Google Maps.

I also recommend visiting the Dewa Roman Discovery Centre, Grosvenor Museum and the Chester Cathedral during your time in Chester. Of course, there is more to Chester than these places, such as Chester Zoo and the Cheshire Military Museum so make sure to check out what you want to do before you visit. Hello Everyone. I have recorded a brief introduction into my BSc and my MSc courses that I undertook in the UK. I have a BSc in Natural Sciences and a MSc in Nutrition. I have included some information on what the courses entail, some assesment details and embloyability. As ever the information on my videos are from my point of view and my unviersity websites.
My advice is to do your research thoroughly on these 2 courses you want to do. The assesments will have changed since I completed these courses, especially for my masters as I did the course during COVID. Employability of these courses can also vary depending on your interest after successful completion. If you can find some work experience in a laboratory, nutritionist clinic or an academice setting, please go for them as they could be beneficial in helping you make a decision about the course.
Note: you cannot apply for a role of Dietitian in the NHS (National Health Service in the UK) after completing the Nutrition course. To be a dietitian in the UK, you will need to do a BSc or a 2 year MSc in Dietetics.

This is my 4th episode on applying to university and it focuses more on Masters courses than PhDs as I used my personal experience to record this episode. Applying to medicine in the UK is a daunting process as there's so many things to. Hence why I have created a podcast on the brief overview of applying to medical schools in the UK. If there's one thing to take away from this episode is to do your research thoroughly!
All the information found in the episode can be found online such as UCAS and the medical school websites. Most of the information is up to date when I recorded this episode. But do check the medical school websites more regularly for changes in grades and UCAT/BMAT/GAMSAT scores. There's a lot of info out there so make sure that you take your time to do your research well so that you are comfortable with your choices.
