The Music Career show is all about speaking to real people just like you who have made a career for themselves in the music industry. I want to show you that everyone has to start somewhere and that the possibilities and opportunities are endless in this day and age! Perhaps you're stuck in an office job because you never had the confidence to try using your musical skills to earn a living, or you have always had an idea for an amazing stage show but you're snowed under with 75 guitar students every week. This is the podcast for you!
Tara Howley is a multi-award-winning instrumentalist, singer songwriter & composer from Kilfenora, Co.Clare. Over the past 7 years Tara was the lead uilleann piper and whistle player with the Grammy award winning show ‘Riverdance’. She has toured extensively in Europe, Asia, America and Canada. In 2019 Tara was chosen to be a soloist with the RTÉ concert orchestra to record for Universal music’s new production of the ‘ Riverdance 25th anniversary’ album and DVD. In 2020 Tara collaborated with Bill Whelan & President Michael D Higgins singing and playing on a track for Van Morrison’s birthday.
Tara has also performed with the Grammy-nominated ‘Afro Celt Sound System’ on a European tour, has performed for Sir James Galway, Bill Whelan, Paddy Keenan, Finbar Furey, Lucy Spraggan and was invited to play a special performance for Hollywood’s Stephen Speilberg while he was in Ireland. Tara has featured on a number of National and international television programmes, documentaries and podcasts. Tara is now embarking on her solo career and is after releasing a very successful EP with Malaysia’s Faliq Auri. Their music has been streamed in over 70 countries and counting. Tara is now recording new music and her new single ‘Outlawed Tunes on outlawed’ made history being the first female uilleann piper to be in the top 10 iTunes Charts. After going viral on TikTok Tara has a combined following of over 200,000 followers across her social media platforms. Tara’s band is comprised of drums, electric guitar, bass, bodharn with an exciting fusion of Irish music, songs and dance.

Katie Ferrara is a full-time working musician and award winning singer/songwriter from Los Angeles, CA. As a performing artist, her repertoire covers folk and pop music from the 60's to present and her songwriting can be best described as " honest and authentic music" with at times, an "ethereal flair". As Buzz Music puts it, she's got a "tender approach to life that bursts from her guitar and vocal chords in a way that's both charming and reassuring". Her songwriting often covers topics related to spirituality, love, and self-empowerment.
Katie began her career with humble roots, performing on weeknights and weekends for tips as a busker on the streets of Burbank, Santa Monica, and various farmers markets all over Los Angeles. Fun fact: if you go walking down Palm avenue and San Fernando blvd, you may find an image of Katie on a street corner where she used to busk! Just type her name into google maps to find her. Since then, Katie has made an international name for herself playing at street festivals all over South Korea, the UK, Europe and New Zealand. “You can tell Ferrara has spent many hours honing her craft on piers, street corners, farmer’s markets and open mics. It really would be hard to walk away from a Katie Ferrara show without a smile on your face. Ferrara’s music could very easily fit into just about any equation, and is incredibly licensable. Recently Katie placed 5th in the 2022 Buskers World Cup in Gwangju South Korea with her song "Wolf Cry" and in 2019, won first place in an online music competition called “Musicash" with her original song called "Like a Waterfall". The contest concluded with her performing with her band at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.
She has released several albums as an unsigned independent artist including “Dream Catcher” (2016) and “Break Free” (2020). Both albums were funded by the generous support of her fans off social media. Her music can also be found on the Season 5 premiere of the Hallmark TV show "Good Witch". As a QSC and Yamaha sponsored artist, Katie performs performs regularly at 5 star hotels, restaurants, and private parties around. Los Angeles She is also passionate about aligning her music with charities and causes

My name is Melissa Wright and I am a singer, songwriter, performer, and teacher based out of Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia.
I began playing music at age 12 after discovering my parents’ record collection in our attic. I asked for a record player for my 12th birthday and have since been in love with making and listening to music.
I have a passion for working with new musicians who feel that very same spark of inspiration.
My teaching style uses contemporary music to teach the basics and fundamentals of technique and music theory. My main objective is to turn that initial spark into a fire that can last a lifetime.
Learning an instrument is a life-long practice and will be challenging, exciting, and fulfilling.

ASOMVEL are a four-piece hard rock band from the U.K., notorious for excessive volume, and high-octane stage shows.
Barely a year after ASOMVEL released their well-respected debut LP, Kamikaze, the band was shaken to its core when front-man, Jay-Jay Winter, was killed in a road accident.
Although a devastating tragedy, co-founding guitarist, Lenny, knew that the band had to continue in tribute to the determined spirit of their founder.
Since releasing World Shaker, the first album with Jay-Jay’s nephew, Ralph, on vocals, the band has performed around the world; including a tour of South America, Japan, and all around Europe. These dates included many well-respected festivals and lengthy tours with well-established artists.

Emma/emzae (em-zay)Growing up against a backdrop of Girl Power and the Y2K pop machine, Emma Shaw - otherwise known by her stage name emzae - always knew that music was the only path she truly had any interest in pursuing.
By the age of 17, she was writing regularly and over the years that followed, her demo projects amassed thousands of listeners online and early support from BBC Introducing. Stepping onto the live circuit, emzae began to hone a solo set which showcased her productions and multi-instrumental talent, earning her festival and support slots for the likes of Altered Images and LoneLady.
Always maintaining a fierce independence, emzae more often than not writes, records, produces and mixes her music, playing every instrument and singing every vocal layer on each track. Her songs play around with the definition of pop, blurring sub-genres to create her own varied, yet distinct sounds, while her lyrics span themes including change, self-doubt, confusion, empowerment and social commentary.
Much of emzae’s work and career choices have also been heavily influenced by her lived experience of chronic mental and physical illness, which she writes and talks openly about when feeling comfortable to do so. She is passionate about finding ways to make the music industry a more health-first, welcoming environment for others like her, and encourages musicians to build their dreams no matter their limitations or barriers.
On 1st September 2023, after a run of singles, emzae is preparing to release her debut album on her new label Zirconia Records, including existing tracks Lucid Dreaming, Another Lesson Learnt, As This Day Fades to Another, THRIVE, Strip Lights and Extraordinary - many of which have been featured on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists including New Pop UK, Fresh Finds Pop, New In Pop and A-list Pop and received airplay on 6music, Amazing Radio and various local BBC stations.

Hey, my name is Cody, but you might know me as The Groovy Guitar Dude! I love music, and have built a career sharing my passion for music with others in the form of helping as many people as possible learn guitar for free on YouTube.
I have been teaching guitar on YouTube since about 2015, and have since posted nearly 1000 five-to-fifteen minute guitar lessons for popular songs; and recently have dove into the world of short-form content with roughly 300 guitar lessons on YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram Reels.
My online guitar lessons were originally just a bit of a "passion project" to give back to the same community that gave so much to me; as I am entirely self-taught at guitar, with help from my now-peers in the YouTube guitar-teaching community. I had always had dreams and ambitions outside of the typical "9-5" lifestyle; so when my channel began to grow, I saw an opportunity to follow that path persistently and see where it led me. After years of struggle and relentless hope in pursuit of my goals, I finally was able to make YouTube my full time income towards the end of 2018.
Since then, my YouTube career has allowed me to see many of my dreams come in my life (including meeting my wife, Michelle a.k.a. Guitar Goddess), and has allowed me to live in a way that aligns more with what I want out of life.
My experience in building my career in online music education was a challenging one, but has always been WELL worth the times of struggle; and I love sharing my story, as well as any help I can offer, to those who want to pursue a similar path.
I hope that what is shared in my talk with Barry on The Music Career Show will be exactly that for someone out there! 🤙

Ben Cote is an American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, and is the founder and frontman of the rock band The Ben Cote Band. Inspired by artists such as Van Halen, Guns N’ Roses, Poison, and Motley Crue, Ben has performed all over the USA, opening for many of his heroes such as Bret Michaels, Slash, Vince Neil, Warrant, Lita Ford, Great White, Slaughter, Steel Panther, and many more! Ben has released three original albums with The Ben Cote Band, and more than a dozen music videos, including WooTube’s Music Video of the Year winners, “Get Your Licks In,” (2018) and “Nine Seven Six” (2019). Ben attended Berklee College of Music, where he graduated as summa cum laude in 2018, before being asked to come back to teach for Berklee’s Summer Programs' Guitar Sessions. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ben Cote turned to social media to reach, and grow, his following and the following of his band, with success. London cellist, Isobelle Austin, believes in the transformative power of music, and channels this through her playing to elevate the experience of her listeners.
She is an award-winning cellist, who plays classical through to contemporary music. I have been singing for as long as I can remember. At age 5 I sat my Auntie Jackie down and sung her my song I had just written, ‘Ippy Dippy Dation’. I have no idea what that means or what I was singing about but I was desperate to perform it to someone! Not a lot’s changed since then. Sure, I grew to nearly 6ft, spent years thinking I was straight (shocker, I wasn’t) and lost my confidence as a songwriter (why? Did you read that title?!) but I’m still that 5 year old singing all the time and just making music. I’ve even gone back to the haircut I had…
Since then I’ve studied music and singing from college all the way through University and on to the Royal Academy of Music. I’ve sung in bands, theatre shows, as a solo artist, dabbled in acting, travelled the world performing in hotels, theatres, Cruise Ships, recorded vocals in studios and remotely, written songs, taught singing and released a solo album! I absolutely love being up on stage and singing brings me the greatest joy. Over the last few years I’ve incorporated playing both electric and acoustic guitar into my performances and I can’t imagine being without it now!
During the lockdown in 2020 I suddenly found myself unemployed and gig-less so to fill my time I decided to record a song of my late father’s with a friend. This snowballed into a full blown album, funded by a crowdfunder campaign and many, many kind and generous souls! The debut single, ‘Greasy Mabel’ went to no1 in the UK iTunes Country Charts and so did the album when it was released in November 2020. The reception the album got was amazing and the support from radio stations, blogs and the industry in general blew me away. I’m currently working on the follow up. Watch this space!
After a battle with breast cancer, a late diagnosis of ADHD (Yay! Neurodiversity rules!) and a global pandemic, the last couple of years have been full on to say the least. I’ve toured the UK with The Sound Of Springsteen as a backing vocalist and guitarist and now I’m concentrating on my solo career. I am passionate about helping others in marginalised communities get involved with making music and was recently honoured to help with Girls Rock London as the guitar tutor on the youth camp. Being a big ol’ gay, neurodiverse woman in her (very) late thirties doesn’t stop me making music and I believe there shouldn’t be any barriers to anyone!

Brooksie Wells was a child of the sixties whose father was a Civil Rights activist from the deep South. Discovered by Bobby Darin at 19, Brooksie wrote for years for Chappell Music. Her early demos were with John Lennon's band Elephant's Memory and she was also a singer with Kid Creole and the Coconuts.

Vancouver-based pianist, composer and singer-songwriter Jordana Delgado defines herself as a storyteller. Initially trained as a classical pianist Jordana quickly deviated from that and explored other genres such as pop, jazz and world music with special interest in a cappella traditional music. The leitmotiv through this exploration was always the storytelling part of the music. She always puts the story first and uses whatever musical elements she needs to its service. That brought her to participate in many theatrical shows early in her music career until she finally co-founded her own theatre company (“C@ntamons”) that brought their musical children show around many schools and community centers in Barcelona, her home-town.
Composing and arranging music have always been her passions. That led her to start or participate in several other musical projects such as the a cappella bands air sOul and Víove, and the indie-pop band Paper de Plàstic.
After relocating to Vancouver, she decided to start her solo career to bring to life many stories that she had created on the side over the years. Her first album Rainy Times was released in November 2021 and with it came The Rainy Times Story, a 9-episode short film that develops through the tracks of the album and that can be watched on YouTube.

My name is Christina Baur, and I am an artist manager, coach, and mentor based in Munich, London, and Los Angeles. I started playing the piano when I was eight years old, went to acting school, and have always loved the arts industry. (I can't count how many concerts I've been to - both as a hobby and professionally!)
After graduating from high school, I interned at one of the best-known radio stations in Germany, and even then, I enjoyed working with artists and managers. I studied tourism and event management in Germany and California to further deepen my knowledge. During this time, I toured with an ensemble of artists in Germany and gained much experience at festivals in the United States. I am fortunate to have acquired knowledge in online/experiential marketing, social media, time management, visas, artist issues, and tour organization.
After my studies, I started working for an artist management company in London and Los Angeles. I am self-employed there and manage about 5-6 artists every week. We create and send deals, book our artists, build websites for them, and release their singles with our independent label. Sometimes we also go on tour with them and act as tour managers.
Over the past four years, I've worked with several artists who needed more motivation, were unhappy with their numbers on the platforms, would like to tour more, and needed help developing their music careers.
Six months ago, I started my coaching and mentoring company, Be Your Own Star, where I help artists who aren't yet under management or label support and want to be successful as independent artists. It's a pleasure for me to devote my time to discovering their true passion, growing their followers across all social media and streaming platforms, increasing their streams, and finding them meaningful ways to monetize their art.
My ultimate goal is to help artists achieve fulfillment and success in their music careers, and I look forward to rocking the music industry with each one of you!

27 year old Birr native Ciarán Cooney is set to become one of the traditional and folk music scenes most prominent performers. Previous career highlights include being a member of Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones , a Walt Disney World Company resident musician and currently, he is lead vocalist and guitarist with world renowned Irish dance show, IRISH CELTIC
Drawing on his influences from the likes of Paul Brady, Planxty, Luke Kelly and Dick Gaughan, Ciarán has formed a sound which is uniquely his own. Paying homage to the balladeers of years gone by who have influenced him, Ciarán sings with a passion that is far beyond his years, captivating audiences around the world. This, paired with his unique guitar playing style that blends trad accompaniment with acoustic folk and blues techniques, has made him stand out from the more ‘traditional’ guitarist/singers on the trad circuit today.
Throughout his career, Ciarán has performed on stage with some of the Irish music scenes biggest names including We Banjo 3, Gaelic Storm, The Wolfe Tones, JigJam, Benedict Morris, Ali Levack, Mundy (to name but a small few), on some of the biggest festival stages in the world. Most notably, Milwaukee Irish Fest in August of 2018.

Charlotte's upbeat and chirpy covers of pop classics are a hit with all ages. Often found busking along the river Thames and in London's busiest train stations, Charlotte's street performances have led to sold out shows in London and slots at Cornbury, Henley and Glastonbury Festival.

Aisling Jarvis is a 30 year old multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter/producer based in Blessington. She has been working as a professional musician for the last decade, after graduating with a Diploma in Sound Engineering and Music Production. She has written and recorded songs since she was 16, and released her debut solo album 'A Handful of Bad Ideas' in 2014, and released a solo single 'Fade to Black in 2021. As well as her solo work, Aisling has worked on numerous collaborations, both writing and producing. She has released a number of Dance tracks with well established producers such as Roger Shah, Aly & Fila, Phillipe El Sisi; formed a pop duo with her brother called BANYAH; and worked alongside many other artists including Clannad, Moya Brennan, Hvmmingbyrd, Kipunji. She also works as a session musician, performing with Moya Brennan since 2010, and Clannad since 2017. One of the most interesting song writing talents to emerge from Ireland's shores in 2021 is Seba Safe. Following on from the success of his debut Map Runner EP has recently signed a global record deal with renowned indie label Nettwerk. Writing candidly and honestly on personal relationships, love, loss and change, Seba Safe’s pertinent lyrics are wrapped in a sound that combines Pop, Folk, Dance and R'n'B with inspirations spanning from the sparse folk pop of Maggie Rodgers, Big Thief and Julien Baker to the more modern production of Dermot Kennedy and Lil Peep. With an artistic range that saw him collaborate with Æ MAK on 'I Dance In The Kitchen', the track saw heavy radio and DSP support including being named 'Track Of The Day' on KEXP. 2021 sees Seba Safe securing solid DSP editorial support across his releases to date, selling out a second headline show in Dublin's The Grand Social, and garnering significant airplay support from BBC 6 Music, RTE 2FM (including Record of the Week from Tracy Clifford), RTE Radio 1 play-listing amongst many others.
