Today is a big day for me.

I’ve collected enough questions from listeners to populate an entire episode with them and host my first Ask Me Anything episode.

Listen in as I answer YOUR questions, like:

What’s your favorite notebook?

How many books do you read in a year?

How do you choose your one-word themes?

What if I’m afraid to start writing?

Who are your favorite podcasters and bloggers?

Do you write digitally?

Do you have any pre-reading rituals?

How can we help our children and students become readers and writers?

Today, I answer them all and even have plans to turn a couple of them into full-length episodes in the future.

You already know I love morning pages and you already know how I’ve grappled with their purpose and function over the years.

Today, I’ll share my latest round of learning and experimentation into this important daily practice and share how I’ve continually shifted my morning pages practice to make life feel better.

On this podcast, we believe in the power of reading and writing to make life better.

But before it can make life better, we have to say YES to ourselves and truly believe that we deserve this special form of self-care so that we can show up in our lives the way we want to.

Today’s guest is Wendy Harrop and she is here to help us say YES to ourselves in this summer season of life. She’s the host of the Say Yes to Yourself podcast, runs a bed and breakfast on a flower farm in Massachusetts and takes women on international culinary adventures.

She’s here to talk about how to say YES to yourself in this summer season, whether overseas or in your backyard. This conversation is full of energy, light and laughter and you won’t want to miss it.

One of my favorite things to do is to match books to the right reader. There’s just something so special about really listening to a person and then selecting a book that’s perfectly matched to them.

Today, I am talking all about my Snail Mail Book Project, a project I started during the holidays of 2023 to personally recommend a book to others by sending an old-fashioned postcard to them in the mail.

But now, I want to go bigger.

I’m on a mission to send a personalized book postcard to 365 people over the next 365 days and that means I need your help. =)

Come listen as I explain the project, why it’s so important, how you can get involved and how you can help.

This might just be the most fun I’ve had on the Get Lit(erate). Podcast!

Today, I’m chatting with Dupe Witherick of Thrive Alcohol Free. She is an alcohol free wellbeing and transformational coach, the author of A Cocktail of Clarity and host of the Thrive Alcohol Free podcast.

Today, we are mixing mocktails with books. Dupe shares her top three favorite mocktail recipes and I pair each with a perfectly-themed book to match it.

But this is not just a fun episode, it’s an incredibly important one. Taking time for yourself to read is an important form of self-care for your body, mind and soul. Adding just a few minutes of time to create a special drink to enhance the experience sends your heart a loud and clear signal: YOUR WELLBEING MATTERS.

Come listen as Dupe shares her journey to being alcohol free and together, we explore three delicious recipes and add three books to our TBR stack, too.

Books and reading can make our lives better in so many ways and we’ve explored a lot of them on this podcast: how to find more time to read, how to choose books to help us grow through what we go through, how to enhance the reading experience with the five senses and writing and much, much more.

But today, I’m talking about something I’ve never mentioned on the podcast before: how fictional characters can become real-life life coaches. I have the perfect guest to talk through this with, too: Gail Ward Olmsted.

Gail is the author of multiple books I’ve loved and I cannot stop talking about her newest book because it has truly given me a fictional life coach that is helping me look at my actual life in a different light.

Come listen as Gail talks about her philosophy of writing, her newest book and helps me explore the idea that fictional characters can be real-life guides.

We’ve talked about a lot of things in the over 100 episodes we’ve shared together from why we read and titles we might love to how to read best and how to use reading to make life better.

But today, we are talking about something I’ve only recently been exploring: the power of reading with furry, four-legged friends.

Dr. Barb Vokatis, a reading therapy dog handler, is here to explore this idea with me and I’ll share three books with dogs as important main characters that I think you should add to your TBR stack, too.

Every week, I send a bit of bookish snail mail into the world to a fellow reader.

Recently, a reader requested a book around adult friendship and it took me down a rabbit hole of books and notebooking in the most wonderful way.

On this episode, I’ll share a bit about adult friendship statistics, offer a list of books I’ve already mentioned previously on the podcast that embrace adult friendships and discuss three books in more depth that I think you’ll love, too.

Oh…and I’ll share the notebooking prompts I used as I went back and forth from these books to my notebook, too.

Books make me happy.

Notebooks make me happy.

That’s why guided journals make me VERY happy: they contain the very best elements of both. =)

Today, I’m talking with Carol Pearson, author of 10 Little Rules for a Blissy Life, a guided journal to help you reflect on the real or imagined rules you’ve set for your life and decide if they’re keeping you from profound happiness.

Carol and I talked about all the things: what it means to have a blissy life, how to create and recreate your life rules in different seasons of life and what is really means to create a life you love.

It has been said that we are the average of the five people we surround ourselves with. But what if I said you were the average of the last 5 books you read? What would your book stack say about you if it could talk?

Today, I’m sharing a collection of books that would say you LOVE to read books about books, bookstores, libraries, authors and bookish people. It’s perfect timing to celebrate National Reading Month, but any time is a good time to read about books…and spark us to read more of them.

Today, she talks about her reading life, her radical agenda, both figuratively and literally, and recommends a few books she thinks we all need to know about to help us read with a radical agenda, too.

Happy Leap Day!

On the very last day of every month, I share a bonus episode of what I’ve been reading, writing, learning and loving throughout the last 30 or so days…or 29 for this special month.

Today, I’m spelling the beans on my literate life in February. I read THIRTEEN BOOKS (most of this was children’s literature), failed miserably in the writing department, learned A LOT about yoga for our reading eyes and baked 72 cupcakes for a very fun reason (and then the naughty doodle slobbered on about 18 of them).

The reading life is full of ups and downs. From time to time, you might find yourself stuck in a reading slump and reading slump can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

So, what’s a reader to do?

Join me in today’s episode to find out. We’ll explore what a reading slump is, how to decide if you’re actually in one and how to get out of reading slumps, too. I’ll share my favorite tips and tricks AND crowdsourced favorites from my Get Lit(erate). community, too.

If you love notebooking or journaling, then you’re in for a treat inside today’s episode.

Today, I’m chatting with Michelle Haseltine. Michelle is a lifelong notebooker (with 99 completed notebooks and counting!) and leader of the 100 Days of Notebooking Facebook Group. Her work has brought so much inspiration to my own notebooking over the years and I’m thrilled to finally have her on the podcast.

We talk about what notebooking is, how to get started, why the perfect notebook matters (and doesn’t!), how to show up to the page when time is crunched or things feel hard and much, much more.

Right now, we are smack dab in the middle of winter. The days are shorter, the sun sets earlier, the wind is colder and for many, that brings on a case of the so-called winter blues.

We can feel less motivated, our overall mood can decrease and we might feel stuck waiting for the longer, sunnier days in the season ahead.

Enter books to the rescue.

Today, I’m sharing three books perfect to help you beat the winter blues. One book celebrates the magic inside of a cold winter season. Another will whisk you away to another, likely colder, location and make you forget about your own winter blues as you get lost inside the pages. And finally, the third book will give you the swift kick-in-the-pants reminder that you can control much of how you feel…so you should.

Many of us have authors who we adore. We will read ANYTHING they write as soon as they publish it and know with utmost certainty that we will love it.

For me, one of those authors is Teri M. Brown, author of Sunflowers Beneath the Snow, An Enemy Like Me and Daughters of Green Mountain Gap.

Today, she’s back on the podcast to talk about her writing and her recently-published novel. As we did inside our first episode together, we had a wonderful time talking about writing, books and life in general.

Grab your favorite beverage and settle in for a wonderful conversation. I promise you’ll add Daughters of Green Mountain Gap to your TBR after you listen. =)

And it all begins with The Write Habit: A Planner for Writers.

Today, I’m sharing my 2024 notebook stack: all the notebooks I’m using and loving and why. Right now, I’ve got a stack of 8 notebooks I’ll use across the coming weeks and months…and maybe one or two more up my sleeve, too.

I’ll begin with a pitch to find the perfect notebook and why it matters so much. Then, I’ll share each of my notebooks: what kind, what they look like and how they feel, how I’ll use it and how often I’ll write in it.

You’ll find the show notes for the episode with links to all of the books and resources mentioned right here.

I love talking about my reading rules and I have one particular reading rule that you might not expect: I cannot read holiday books until December 1st.

Not at all.

While I love anything and everything to do with the holiday season, I like to restrict my holiday reading to only one month out of the year so it is filled with holiday bookish anticipation.

So now that December has arrived, it’s time to bring out the holiday TBR stack.

Today, I’ll share three of my favorite holiday books, three holiday books on my own personal holiday TBR and three notebook prompts designed to bring holiday cheer, too.

So, get out your To-Be-Read (TBR) stacks and your To-Be-Written (TBW) lists and let’s get into the holiday spirit together!

I started my Get Lit(erate). Podcast to share my love of books with others and offer sets of books to help readers manage life’s challenges and have some fun along the way.

But I also started talking about my love of writing and notebooking…and it turns out those are some of the most popular episodes!

Today, I’m talking with Emily Winslow. She’s the author of Time to Write, a book full of inspiring lessons and practical skills to write the novel you’ve always wanted.

She’s certainly sparked my own writing dream and made it feel reachable, too.

October is World Mental Health month and I’m talking with Sagit Schwartz on the power books have to shine a light on mental health.

She’s here to talk about her debut novel: Since She’s Been Gone.

Sagit Schwartz is a writer, producer, and licensed psychotherapist. Her work has been featured in Medium, Slate, The Atlantic, Reddit NoSleep, and Lifetime Television. She resides with her husband, daughter, and rescue dog in a Southern California beach town….and her novel is incredible for so many reasons.

It’s the first book I’ve read (if not ever!) with a main character grappling with an eating disorder in the midst of a gripping storyline that kept me turning the pages compulsively.

I love meeting people who embody the kind of life I want to live and have mastered the habits and mindsets that I’m trying to grow.

Today’s guest is my ultimate guide for bringing joyful, mindful journaling into my daily life. Becca Rae Eagle is an educator, podcast host, author and writing doula here to talk about joyful journaling and her 60-Day One-Word Journaling project.

Like me, Becca enjoys one-word themes to help her focus and get intentional on the page. I know I’ll be trying her technique and journaling to some of the words in her challenge like renew, play, listen and transform.

She drops SO MANY bits of journaling wisdom for us to learn from and embodies an energy and passion for journaling that cannot be matched.

Books can help us grow through what we go through and there are two broad categories of books in bibliotherapy: books that EXPLICITLY help us and books that IMPLICITLY help us.

Today, I am sharing three books that blur the boundaries of bibliotherapy in different ways.

One book is a bestseller, one is brand new and one is yet-to-be-published, but should be in your pre-order cart.

Recently, I read a historical fiction novel that sparked my interest in a historical event in a way that no other book has done: The Shore of Forever by Elora Maxwell.

This book was completely captivating. It was focused on a fascinating period of history and told the story of three characters who each had my heart and taught me a thing or two about how to live life. But even better than that, it lit my reading heart and sent me down a beautiful rabbit hole of curiosity.

Today, I’m talking with Elora Maxwell about her debut novel. She gives us the backstory of how it came to be, insight into the characters and structure and even shares book recommendations that pair well with hers. You don’t want to miss this!

There are many iconic books that we tuck into our reading hearts and one of those books for me is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

Originally published in 1911, this book still captivates the minds and hearts of many readers and I’d argue the lessons inside are even more important today than they were long ago.

Today, I am talking with Keri Wilt, Burnett’s great-great-granddaughter and a heart cultivator at The Well-Tended Life, a podcast to help you unearth the tools to keep you growing and blooming true in every season.

I loved my conversation with Keri and we talked about all the things: The Secret Garden (and how old she was the first time she read it!), the heart taps inside the pages, her unique journaling technique and much more. I know you’ll love it as much as I did and you’ll be off to grab your notebook (or buy a new one!) to try Keri’s intentional journaling today.

Plus…Keri is offering listeners a chance to win a beautiful, illustrated version of The Secret Garden signed by three generations of Burnetts descents so you can find the magic inside the pages, too. Head to my Instagram page to enter

There’s one genre that I have not read in my adult reading life for a VERY long time…and I know because I keep meticulous track of the books I read: fairy tales.

That all changes starting now!

Today, I’m talking with Donna Fields. She has spent years studying fairy tales and is ready to flip everything we thought we knew about fairy tales upside down…and give us some life coaching in the process, too.

You’ll remember the fairy tales of your childhood, be blown away by one simple, yet powerful, change in thinking and leave with a desire to dive into the next fairytale you read…and your life…with new eyes.

I promise!

Let’s celebrate National Book Lovers Day!

I love all things books and reading: books, bookstores, bookshelves, book bins, book covers, book sleeves, bookmarks, bookish culture, bookish fun and more.

That’s why I have a special place in my reading heart for books about books. Not only do they indulge my bookish heart, but they place me square into the lives of other bookish people, too.

We are not alone. =)

Today, I’m sharing a collection of books that embrace bookish culture.

You’ll find three of my all-time favorites, one book I love to hate, three books on my personal TBR and a couple of middle grade books I think all book lovers need to read, too.

You'll find the show notes for this episode here.

I love all kinds of notebooking and journaling, but there’s one kind that I have not yet tried: junk journaling.

So, I’ve brought on a special guest to help me think through what junk journaling is, why we should all give it a try and how to get started.

Jenn Begin is the perfect guest to share her passion for junk journaling and spark that magic in each of us, too. Join us as we talk about junk journaling, how we can bring our reading life inside the pages of our journals and what you need to get started. It’s easier than I thought and look at the results!

Today, I am talking about a particular bookish problem I often have: reading the books on my tall TBR stack in the season I intentionally wanted to read them in.

I have many books that I wanted to read this summer IN the summer season because they have all the summertime vibes: they take place in the summer in warm and beachy locations and give off the summertime vibes: fun, sun and romance.

But summer is HALFWAY over and I have not read any of them. None.

So today, I’m sharing three books that I WILL read this summer, but they are NOT your typical beach read. Yes, they take place in summer in warm and beachy locations, but they are not rom-coms and instead, they focus on real characters going through real transformations in the summer season.

Come help me choose which of the three I should read first and which you might add to your TBR stack, too!

Ever since I read The Five Senses by Gretchen Rubin, I’ve been thinking about my days a bit differently. I’m noticing things more. I’m attempting to listen more. I’m striving to stay present in the moment, to really experience it.

I’m trying to choose a bigger life and this book is helping me do it.

Today, I’m revealing a new side to my professional life, one I’ve been thinking about for YEARS and this book has finally helped me make the leap to bring it to life.

I’ll share my exciting new concept, claim a new identity and explore how we can turn reading and writing into a ritual that can help you choose a bigger life, too.

Today, I’m talking with Kara Infante of the Bookish Flights podcast. What started as a chance to talk about hyperlocal books from the Midwest to broaden my own reading life turned into another chance to talk about the power of books.

Together, we explore how we can use books as tools to take us places AND to prepare us for life moves to those places, too. We’ll uncover the themes present in Kara’s book flight, think about how they relate to our own life values and add even more books to our TBR stacks.

I always love a good literate backstory: how an author decided to write, the way a book came to life, why a writer shares specific stories on the page.

Knowing the backstory, connecting to the backstory and truly understanding ‘all the things’ connects me to authors and books in new ways.

And I LOVE that.

Today, I’ve decided to share my own backstory with you, but with a twist. My very first Get Lit(erate). Patreon member flipped the script and interviewed ME for the podcast. Together, we talk about our love of books, how and why Get Lit(erate) came to be, our favorite book club selections and bookish experiences and much more.

Come listen as I spill the beans on Get Lit(erate) and then join in the fun!

This summer, I’ve set a goal to really lean into my writing life. I want to write more regularly, tackle some writing projects, write outside the box and boost my writing communities, too.

So, I’ve joined two very different writing groups and have been reflecting on what I like about each, what I’ve learned about the process and what really works for me.

Surprisingly, I’ve realized how much I like writing to a prompt…tiny clips of song lyrics, to be exact. These nuggets of inspiration are shockingly helpful in showing up to the page and this got me thinking: book quotes can do the same.

I LOVE collecting compelling quotes from the books I read. I have multiple quote notebooks, a Google Doc collection and even digital Keep notes and a Padlet wall full of them.

Today, I am bringing you five book quotes that are sure to send you straight to your notebook. I’ll share the quote, the book it's from and what it might spark for you. This just might be my favorite episode yet!

Do you remember the hobbies and passions you had as a child? Do you make time and space for them in your adult life? I knew I could seriously improve in this department in my own life, so I turned to books.

Books that remind me how important it is to make time for things we enjoy and care about. Books that spark a flame to get back to the things that make us happy. Books that show us what can happen to the trajectory of our lives if we do.

Those are the kinds of books I am talking about on today’s episode: books that spark a passion.

Today, I’m talking with Christie Zimmer on the power of journaling to make our lives better….especially our reading lives.

We’ve collaborated together to create a colorful printable to help us reflect on our rules for reading, where they came from and what they mean, if they serve us or not and how we want to harness their power in the future.

But the best part? While this might begin with a discussion about the rules in our reading life, it’s the perfect prompt to think about other rules in our lives and if they serve us in this season. It’s coaching for your reading life AND your actual life, too.

Writing daily in my various notebooks, especially my Morning Pages notebook, has been a life-changing practice for me, but sometimes, those gleaming white pages can feel daunting.

Today is a big day on the Get Lit(erate). podcast.

I’m interviewing someone that brings me a great deal of journaling inspiration with her colorful, curious and whimsical printable journals and journal pages: Christie Zimmer!

I feel like Christie is my journaling twin, as we have very similar philosophies about journaling and notebooking and we often head to our notebook for many of the same reasons.

But there’s one key difference: I tend to stay in the left side of my brain when I journal, sticking to my tried and true notebooking habits inside predictable, lined notebooks. Christie invites me to explore the right side of my brain as I notebook, welcoming new colors, shapes, reflective prompts and overall notebooking experiences.

In today’s episode, we talk about all things journaling, from the why and how we journal to the when and what we do when we arrive on the page.

Some of my most popular episodes on this podcast have been on the power and possibility of bringing a consistent notebooking and journaling habit into our lives.

We might think we are too busy, too overwhelmed and too tired to journal daily…and we might be. But honestly, we cannot afford not to and I’ll tell you why.

Today, I’m exploring the power of journaling and notebooking to support our mental health.

I’ll share powerful research on why journaling is important to our physical, mental and emotional health and share three specific journal techniques to support your model and mindset.

I often bring a lot of whimsy into this podcast. We share books that make us run to the stationary store, celebrate Festivus and make us hungry. We talk about notebook love languages, complete journaling challenges together and share our favorite writing supplies. But we also talk about serious things, too. Books that can help us when we get a diagnosis. Love is in the air!

Chocolate is being eaten, roses are being given and it’s time to think about what sets our reading hearts on fire.

For me, that’s an easy one: children’s literature!

I love all things children’s literature. I devoured books when I was a kid, read them like it was my job as an educator (it was!) and choose to intentionally bring them into my adult reading life today.

So today on the podcast, we are celebrating children’s literature. And there is no better guest to help me do that than James Preller.

James is author of the Jigsaw Jones series, The Courage Test, Bystander, Six Innings, Blood Mountain and many, many more.

Come listen as we talk about his journey to writing, his MANY books and what’s coming next.

So, I figured out something about my reading life that I did not know I needed:

Hyper-local books.

Hyper local books are books that have a strong sense of place and take place in an actual setting with actual references of local points of interest.

I had no idea how much this truly enhanced the reading experience until I read a few books set in my upstate New York location by JD Spero.

These books captivated me in a way that other books could not because I felt like I was truly there inside the book, not just imagining the setting, but recalling it from when I was there last.

It’s the best.

So, I sat down with JD Spero to talk about her books and the process of writing hyper-local books for readers. We talked about all that and much more and I cannot wait to have her back on so we can continue our bookish conversations.

Come listen!

If you are reading this, then chances are you love reading (and writing!). You make time in your busy life to read and enjoy the benefits.

But why?

In today’s episode, we think about WHY we read. For me, it comes down to one simple theme:

I read to grow.

I purposefully grow my reading life so my actual life can grow, too, and so I’m sharing three books that made me literally stop and yell to the air: What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks is going on?

Now, I’m not talking about what’s going on with the plot, I’m talking about what I learned about the world as a result of reading these books.

I’m still reeling from them and therefore, you need to read them, too.

Today, I’m sharing three books (and a bunch more from my Patreon community) that will stop you in your tracks and question everything you know about how the world worked and still does.

I love ways to head into a new phase of life with concrete intention.

That’s why I love choosing a word of the year, a word of the month and my monthly and weekly planning routines.

Plus, over the past couple of years, I’ve been obsessed with a new ritual too: taking on a themed challenge based on the specific year we are in, like #23for23.

This year, I’m taking a new approach to my #23in23 ritual and would love for you to join me. I’m virtually attending 23 bookish events hosted by 23 independent bookstores and/or libraries to show the book love and get closer to the book world that I love so much.

I have a notebook obsession. I love them in all shapes and sizes and for all reasons and purposes. I’m often asked about my obsession from those wanting to cultivate their own notebooking habit:

  • How many notebooks do you have?
  • What do you write in each of them?
  • How often do you write in them?
  • How do you manage them all?

Today, I’m tackling all of your notebook questions and am sharing my 2023 notebook stack: all the notebooks I’m using and loving and why.

There’s something magical to me about the week after Christmas. It feels suspended in time, a bonus week with the entire family home after a beautiful holiday but before the fresh start of a year ahead.

It’s full of possibilities and I often spend this week thinking about the past year and making plans for the year ahead, not to mention cleaning out a closet or two, too.

And since my reading life is a very important part of my actual life, that means taking a hard look at the bookish data I collected all year long so I can think intentionally about the year ahead in books.

Today, I’m sharing all the pertinent stats from my reading life and my upcoming goals for the new year, too. Listen to find out all the details and steal the three unique questions that can change how you look at your reading life forever.

I’ve been choosing one word themes to guide my year for many, many years.

Until 2020.

My chosen one word no longer applied to the way the world was working.

So, I changed it. And I changed it again and again as the world changed and I changed along with it.

I haven’t looked back.

Now, I create monthly themes to guide my daily living and those themes seep into my reading life, too.

Today, I’m sharing three books that embody my new theme of the month: gathering. You’ll hear about one touchstone text on the topic, one cookbook that read more like an entertaining memoir and one fiction book that’s sure to touch your heart.

I don’t know about you, but I set personal reading goals.

Yes, my overall goal is to simply enjoy my reading life, but I do set other personal goals to help enrich my reading and my actual life, too.

Right now, my main reading goal is to diversify my reading life: the genres I read, the formats I read them in and the authors I welcome into my TBR stack.

Today, I’m sharing three books written by indigenous authors to broaden what I read and how I think about the world. It’s just in time to celebrate National Native American Heritage Month with a picture book, middle grade novel and young adult book you’re sure to love and learn from.

Sometimes, the bookish themes I share are fun and whimsical.

Sometimes, the bookish themes I share are unexpected.

And sometimes, the bookish themes I share are serious.

Today is a serious kind of day.

That’s a lot of people dealing with a lot of heavy stuff.

I’m one of them.

I have the world’s biggest sweet tooth. Really.

My most favorite thing to enjoy is a yummy slice of vanilla cake with a thick layer of homemade vanilla frosting.

It’s the best.

But along with that sweet tooth, I have some food intolerances, too. I’m gluten-free, dairy-free and watch my sugar, too.

That means I do not get to eat a whole lot of cake.

So, what’s a reader with a sweet tooth to do? Read about cake instead.

Today, I’m sharing three books that have incredible storylines all centered around cake. It’s a fun and whimsical reading theme, but the books are powerful and will leave you thinking.

Today, I’m sharing three books that embrace the idea of flaneuring: wandering with intention for a better life. I’ve got one adult non-fiction selection to kick us off, an adult fiction book that will literally immerse you in flaneuring and a picture book that will sucker-punch you in your gut to start paying attention to life. Really.

Surprise! I'm here with a bonus episode to give you a sneak peek inside my Get Lit(erate) Patreon community where we talk all things bookish and notebookish. This was the most recently released episode and I thought it might give you a taste of what to expect inside the community.

Our theme of the month is flaneuring: to intentionally stroll through our lives with a sense of observation and wonder. In this episode, I ask how could we apply that same thinking to our reading lives, too?

With a reading response notebook, that’s how. =)

Come listen as I talk through what a reading response is and could be and offer 15 different possibilities for what you might fill it with.

After you listen, tell me your ideas, too! I’d love to compile them together in a PDF resource to make flaneuring through our reading lives second nature.

And if you like what you hear, join me inside the Get Lit(erate) Patreon Community. It's only $5 per month for a whole lot of literate inspiration!

Today, I’m sharing three books that bend time….and hearts. Each of these books alters time in some way: by going back, by imagining a new future and by hopping into another time and place. But these books do more than bend time…they bend our hearts, too. It’s nearly impossible to NOT reflect on how we might bend time ourselves if we could and that gives us all the feels. You don’t want to miss these books.

I vividly remember one particular book from my childhood reading life: The Monster at the End of this Book by Jon Stone. It’s highly immersive, interactive nature set the foundation for all books to come in my reading life, especially picture books.

But I realized that I do not celebrate the picture books I read on my reading log nearly enough. So, I’m doing just that inside this episode. By the way, if you want my reading log, you can grab it for FREE in the show notes below.

Today, I’m sharing three picture books that have big, adult lessons. These books encourage us to broaden who we are in the world, know that we are enough just the way we are and even give us a needed mindset shift.

I have a special page in my notebook that I treasure: Books I’ve Hugged. Yes. These are the books that I’ve loved so much that I did not want to let go of them when I turned the last page…so I didn’t. I hugged them instead.

Today, I’m sharing three of these huggable middle grade novels. And while they are perfect for the middle grade reader in your life, they are also perfect for the adult reader who needs a bit of a bookish hug, too.

Here are the books mentioned:

The Benefits of Being an Octopus by Ann Braden

The Road to After by Rebekah Lowell

How to Find What You're Not Looking For by Veera Hiranandani

The Other Half of Happy by Rebecca Balcarcel

Here's the blog post I mentioned on what adults should read children's literature, too!

And here's an apology, too. Ed Mylett was actually the person who taught me that there are things that are caught, not taught. I read A LOT of personal development and need to be better at not mixing up my quotes.
