  • Hospitality is meeting a need, motivated by love. This two-part series will give you practical inspiration + soulful encouragement to keep pursuing others as Christ has pursued you. Even and especially when you feel like it has to always look like a Pinterest dinner party.

In this episode, we giggle about Travis + Taylor, how much we are loving the Golden Bachelor, and free you up to love others simply. As believers, we are all called to hospitality. But what does it look like? Hospitality can and will look different in every season. Today we are busting myths that hospitality has only one dimension, and share real-life examples of hospitality in our own lives!

In “Friend vs. Follower” we want to address relationships… Basically, the ‘social’ in social media. Instagram was once just about posting in the moment, instantly for and with friends before it became the introduction of influencers, forever changing the marketing world.

On Facebook, we call them “friends.” On Instagram, we call them “followers.” In this episode, we’ll be talking about how we navigate making connections, building friendships, consuming different content without compromising our convictions, and living in a time where influencers are our go-to sources for advice?

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W6: Chapter 27-31Spoiler alert: this is my favorite episode of the entire book club. The lovely Lia Ross leads our discussion this week, and we tackle:

  • things we’ve had to unlearn from bad church experiences
  • staying obedient to God when the people in your life don’t get your calling
  • main takeaway from all we've read in Becoming Elisabeth Elliot so far
  • how Elisabeth and Rachel living among the Waodoni should increase our trust in God

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W5: Chapter 20-26
Lia Ross and I talk about those hard moments in life when we live in the reality of God’s faithfulness and it is not just us affirming truth in theory. Elisabeth Elliot loses her husband under the eyes and expectations of millions, and we learn many beautiful lessons from her. Including: We can be honest with God. A fruitful life will require many moments when we are at the end of our rope. We can trust that His perfect peace and His perfect strength will be on display in our lives, in our perseverance AND our weakness!

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W4: Chapter 15-19When it comes to our homes and callings, how do we define success? What would happen if we saw fruitfulness not in "coherent answers" or preferred outcomes, but true and wholehearted obedience?

This week we cover such life transition in Elisabeth's life - from single to courtship, from engagement to marriage, from pregnancy to motherhood! The missionary journey takes off with a bang, and we join Elisabeth in the jungle where she is translating the Word of God into the tribal language and supporting Jim. She faces many grueling challenges along the way, and if you are discouraged chapters 15-19 will be a safe place for you to land. Lia and I share the ways that the missionaries' philosophy of ministry is changing the game for us. "Watching" this group of people live their lives as faithfully as they can is changing the way we see God at work in our own stories, the way we manage time, and how we define "success" according to the Kingdom and not the world!

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W3: Chapter 10-14As Christians, we are called to live fully and to live as servants without selfish ambition. Jim Elliot had a sacrificial life, but he was also an advocate of "being all there" wherever you are called and living "to the hilt"! Through Jim and Elisabeth's life, and the guidelines in Scripture, we see that you can enjoy life and obey God at the same time - because His design is best. In His order, we truly flourish. Because of our eternal inheritance, life is always ABUNDANT even if our circumstances don't say so. We talk about daily faithfulness, the crazy wait that Elisabeth had to go through before she was committed to Jim, discerning the will of God over our lives, and how that connects to learning on Christ hour by hour for ever-present help.

We hope these intentional, casual, and verbally processed book thoughts are blessing you!

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot Book Club W1We ask hard questions. We laugh. We welcome you to this podcast no matter how much you know about Elisabeth (or you don't love what you know haha), because we believe everyone has something to take away from our time together! This week we discuss Betty's upbringing, Jim Elliot's wild faith and young life, and imitating Christ in our daily faithfulness to Him. As we look at this life up close and personal, we challenge one another: can someone look at our life and say "be like her" and you'll become more Christlike?

What does it look like to hold space for grief and lament when the world is on fire, yet look in the face of darkness unafraid? When we are at the end of ourselves, how do we find a way to keep worshipping in the madness?

The truth is that the enemy IS losing ground, and he will keep throwing a tantrum about it. We waste our time acting surprised that he is doing so.

We can make good use of our time by turning to help ready the bride for Christ, and look to the hills and say: I know where my help comes from. And I know He is working our resurrection, even when it looks like unbridled destruction.

Join Emilee as we talk about the real fires going on around us, and quietly ask God: What do you have for us here? Listen in if you need a quiet, deep breath for your soul and actual, eternal hope to keep going.

Jesus cares about your grief, no matter what size or shape it might take on in the eyes of the world. It deeply matters to Him.

In the last two years, Rachel Bridges has lost a baby and her father. She so generously shares her story, gives practical help for the gal who feels lost in grief, and helps the church see our role in the life of our grieving friends. Rachel is a pastor's wife in the same church where she grew up as the preacher's daughter - she spends her days as a ministry wife, mom, part time social media manager, representative for Operation Christmas Child, and daily disciples women in the local church.

In this episode, we discuss how to choose His ways above ours, how the wisdom and humility of her earthly father has shaped the legacy she is creating, and why it's important to actively remember our access to God the Father. This episode is for you if you've struggled with the human tendency to elevate certain types of grief or struggled with how the church often slaps a timeline on grief. Take a minute today to remind your heart of what is to come. One day, He will wipe away all suffering, all our tears, and we will spend our days in unhindered worship of Him!

We unpack what it looks like to have less of us and more of Him in our lives - true, biblical abundance! How do we as the women of God step into God's design for us in community, marriage, motherhood, and as Abba's daughters? How do we sit through the increasing labor pains we are experiencing that makes us want to hole up, and prepare for Jesus' arrival with hope and purity?

Emily Theart is a truth-teller, wife, and momma from South Africa and you will adore hearing her heart - and her accent ;) She has an incredible challenge for us today to DENY OURSELVES and to go deeper into relationship with our Abba Father, in order that there will be space in our lives to experience true Life even as we wait for Jesus' return!

The movie Up declares "Adventure is out there!" and we find that adventure is right here, through the Holy Spirit, because of Christ's sacrifice on our behalf. What does it look like to operate out of obedience daily and be aware of His Spirit inside of us? How can we be present to the life He has given us, especially while we are stuck processing hurts from the past? How can we live with open hands, giving our time and mothering and resources right back to God? BONUS: Rachel unpacks for us how to make a life-giving game plan for your Thanksgiving weekend - whether they are anticipated to be hard, joyful, and everything in between.

We invite you to find freedom and joy in this conversation between two girlfriends about how they are seeking Him in the midst of overwhelming seasons, and to more than anything be overwhelmed by the love of God.

Why does the continual study of theology even matter if we already love Jesus? What clarity can we receive reading from believers that have paved the way before us? Join Rachel and Emilee as they discuss the eternal implications of studying theology, how to even start in this overwhelming task, how to gather endurance if you have grown weary of reading the Word, and one way we respond in obedience as women of God: modesty. You will be freed up in this conversation to know God and respond to Him worshipfully in obedience - in daily devotion to the Word, in modesty, and so much more.

Emilee welcomes in new listeners with an introduction to her heart for the podcast, what you can expect in the Abundantly community, and unpacking what true abundant life actually means. What is abundance? What are we talking about when we say that we want you to have abundant life in Jesus' name - and what are we not talking about? We look at the world's current obsession with success and manifesting, and how life in The Way is better.
