Just some good ol boys from the Midwest in Southern Indiana chasing a dream and trying to keep our WHITETAIL BLOODLINE STRONG!!! The Whitetail Bloodlines meaning is to keep our literal whitetail deer bloodline (genetics) strong, while also cherishing all the NEW and OLD friendships we build along the way chasing these allusive animals, building that Whitetail Bloodline. We’re some easy going working class guys who are always down to get down and love talking anything and everything Whitetails!! On this episode I get a repeat guest and good buddy Andrew Fitzgerald and we dive into the harder and less talked side of chasing Whitetails and that’s hard times when you’re down on yourself and how we try to bounce back and get back in the game.
On this episode I’m joined by JP France who’s a well known pitcher for the Houston Astros but one thing you may not know is he’s an avid outdoorsman, archer, and Hunter!! On this one we dive into what’s it’s like being in the MLB while having a passion for hunting and chasing Whitetails. We get into a lot of topics in this one which includes the story of his Kansas pre rut buck he laid the smack down on with his compound bow last year in 2023. We talk saddle hunting vs hang on tree stands, Major League Bowhunter, our passion for Bowhunting Whitetails and a lot in between. On this episode I’m joined once again with my good buddy Brandon Barlow who’s from North Carolina and is constantly getting on mature bucks year after year. We dive into off season scouting and the things he’s doing to try to locate these bucks in the off-season so he doesn’t have to do much in season scouting. He talks about how he makes spread sheets each year and how they help him pinpoint where he needs to hunt during each parts of the season from early season to late season. On this episode I’m joined by Alyssa Tenney who is a Utah native like myself who grew up on a ranch and got used to chasing mule deer with a bow and tagging along on elk hunts with her family. She grew up shooting archery and started shouting competitions at age 15 and that passion for archery lead her to the Blue Grass State of Kentucky where she Shoots collegiate archery (college). In this episode we talk about what she’s doing in these competitions and what her archery setup is for competing and hunting. Alyssa also shoot her first ever whitetail this past season and we dive into the differences from hunting mule deer and Whitetails. Let’s just say she gained a new respect for chasing whitetails. On this episode I’m joined by my good buddy Brandon Barlow and we cover a ton of information on this episode the big 100!!! One thing we talk about for the majority of this episode is studying your doe herd groups to kill your shooter buck or mature bucks. From watching doe’s in the summer and when they’re dropping fawns to pinpoint the time frame she got bred in the rut all the way to early born fawns and how they can come into estrous the first year if they get to a certain weight. We also talk a lot about having historical data with a property and how certain bucks or deer in general use it year after year and pin pointing the best time frame to hunt your property and how being more methodical when you choose to hunt and how it will often lead you to less sits with higher success rates. I’m joined by Austin Crowder on this episode who’s from Tennessee but also travels out of state to hunt Ohio and Kentucky. One of our main discussions on this episode is how to use the rut to your advantage and be consistently killing bucks doing so year after year. On this episode I’m joined by an Ohio big buck killer Davey Stuckey who has killed two bucks over 200 inches and multiple booners in his whitetail career. Davey hunts open farm land bucks in Ohio and kills these giants on permission properties from land owners. We dive deep in depth about one of those two 200 inch bucks and then talk a little about the other one. We also cover a bunch of random topics in this episode from knowing your properties and how the deer use them, the extreme importance of trail camera data, being smart and hunting in the right conditions, and a more in between. I’m joined on this episode by some Ohio boys Ryan and Michael who are part of infinite Hunt Outdoors. They both grew up in the outdoors but have had different paths that have led them to where they’re today but one thing that brought them together was their love for the outdoors and whitetails in particular. On this episode I’m joined by Jena Hall from North Carolina and was raised is the outdoors but only hunted with a rifle most her life and decide she wanted more of a challenge and she figured out bowhunting was that for her. From picking up a bow and shooting it for the first time in late summer, she ended up putting in the work and was able to shoot a beautiful buck with her first arrow ever sent at a buck. After that her passion for Bowhunting only grew more and she was able to repeat on a “funky” buck on her first sit of the year out of the same tree-stand she shot her first buck the year previous. We cover a good amount of other stuff on this episode and it was a great time talking Whitetails with Jena and I appreciate her taking the time to record her first podcast!!
On this episode I’m joined by Andrew Fitzgerald a whitetail hunter from back East!! We start to talk about how he grew up in the outdoors and got his love for whitetail hunting. Then we get into the years leading to the present and how and why he decided to become a more “die hard” whitetail hunter. One of his favorite hunting tactics especially on public land is the “bump and dump” method where he jumps a buck out of his bed and rushes to setup on it to await the curious bucks return. We go into some personal encounters we’ve both had doing it and why/how they were successful. We talk about a lot of other things from trail cameras to understanding that bucks have different personalities and they all act differently in their own way from being aggressive to shy. Dustin Huff the killer of the biggest typical whitetail ever killed in the United States and 2nd typical all time joins me for this episode. Dustin was actually my first ever guest on the podcast wayyy back to episode 7 and it was also his first ever podcast he did after shooting “Moose” about a week previous to the recording. Dustin and I have met a few times over the last two years so it’s basically just a catch up episode where we talk about everything that’s happen to him since he killed a world record whitetail. We also talk about “big buck culture” and why the hunting industry is heading down a slippery slope.
Gavin and Jon are joined by Curt Geier on this episode!! Curt is the host of the Working Class Bowhunter Podcast which in our eyes is the best hunting podcast out there so it was a great time having Curt on this one. We talk about his Mexico coues deer hunt where it wasn’t short of wild encounters while hunting and driving through Mexico. After that we talk about the trip they had to Africa and some of the animals he killed and some of the other guys on his team. This was definitely one of the most entertaining episode we’ve ever recorded and looking foreword to see the WCB Podcast guys in the future!
Gavin and Angelo are joined by our buddy Wes Ramsey who started “Land Hunters”. We talk about Angelo and Gavin’s turkey hunts that we shared with Wes last week and the wild ride it was hunting northern indiana gobblers “Run And Gun” style. We also talk about door knocking and gaining permission on properties to hunt and the things you should be doing. Gavin and Tyler are joined on this episode by the Pennsylvania legend himself, Johnny Stewart!! We talk with John about growing up in Pennsylvania and hunting public land Whitetails. Johnny goes through his year and what he’s doing throughout it to get a mature bucks throughout the country. He’s big on finding a bucks “safe space” and getting in that zone where he feels comfortable. We talk about mountain Whitetails from the different browse they eat and some things to key in on when scouting. John is a wealth of knowledge and we’re definitely going to have to get him on again to pick his brain more and talk some Whitetails.

I’m joined on this episode by Joey Pavlovicz a die hard whitetail hunter out of Ohio. Joey had a wild 3 year ride chasing a GIANT buck he named “Bankrupt”. Following this buck starting in 2020 as a 3 1/2 year old and finding his sheds the first two years, joey started to get a game plan together in 2022 and laid eyes on the world class whitetail that summer leading into the 2022 deer season!! Greg Glesinger joins us on this episode and to say he is a wealth of knowledge would be an understatement. Most people know who he is but for those who don’t he has been a big buck killer for years and more importantly he is consistently killing mature bucks while doing so. Greg is a student of the game and from early on he knew “if you aren’t the expert, be the teacher, and be a dang good one”. Having that mentality and being very methodical about his process from fine turning his archery setup all the way to making ultimate whitetail paradise with great land management practice that he has learned over the years. We talk about the importance of filming your hunts for many different reason that make you a better hunter and conservationists. Brandon talks about why habitat restoration is important, prescribed burning on how it can be beneficial when done correctly, select cutting of timber, native alternatives to food plots, removal of invasive species and many more beneficial practices. I’m joined by Parker Hale from The Swamp Bros to dive into his successful hunt on Southern Indiana Public Land during early October on the first cold front of the year. Parker talks about the scouting and preparation that led to this giant pointer!! This year he dialed in his access route on this piece of public land and was more methodical with his approach than ever. With the first south wind after a bunch of north’s and a cold front just moving through Parker knew he had to be in a tree. One of the hardest part of hunting big woods Whitetails with lots of topography is the thermals and how the wind moves through them, after a couple years of hunting this public land Parker has it dialed in. Acorns were a hot spot in these first couple weeks of October and that’s was ultimately one of the key factors that helped Parker capitalize on his first Archery buck and it was definitely a dandy grossing over 145 inches as a pure typical point!!

Jon actually bought a shed dog from in this year and they talk from the beginning of owning dogs into present day with his dogs that have had great success finding Kansas sheds!! On this episode we’re joined by Austin Stone who owns Tactical Approach Outdoors and our main topic of discussion is Kansas Public land and bc the beast of a Kansas whitetail buck he killed on his first year ever hunting Kansas public land. He did all his scouting in season and trail cameras were a huge part of his strategy. This year the main reasons he was able to close the deal on this mature public land buck was E-Scouting, Boots on the ground, and trail cameras. Austin also recently started hunting out of a saddle and after figuring out his setup better this fall he was ultimately able to kill his first deer out of a saddle and his Kansas buck!! We talk about a lot of different things in this episode and Austin has a lot of public land wisdom, killing lots of great bucks throughout the Midwest on public land so you should definitely enjoy this episode.
(CLEAN EPISODE) On this episodes it’s all guys from the Whitetail Bloodline team with Gavin, Jon, and Angelo and our main topic for this episode is Angelo’s Illinois farm land buck that he shot a couple weeks ago!! He comes from a strong hunting family and there traditions go back two generations and we had a great conversation about it. We also talk about enrolling properties in to CRP (Conservation Reserve Program) and the benefits that come with doing it on your hunting property. Nothing like chasing these kid west Whitetails and Angelo story about his buck is just that, wasn’t expecting to see much that night because they just got done doing some burns on the property but he went out and it all happened fast in a wild way!! Jon is joined on this episode by Matt Palmquist who is an agent at Whitetail Properties and who has grown to have an obsession over Whitetails!! Matt is also a part of the Kansas Bowhunters Association and goes into that and what they’re doing over there. From starting as a upland bird hunter and a starting to chase Whitetails by himself in central Kansas, he got bit by the whitetail bug hard and has been obsessed about chasing big Kansas buck ever since!! Matt has also killed some monster mule deer, along with his big mature Whitetails and towards the end of the podcast you can hear a glimpse in his hunting stories!! Gavin and Jon are joined by team member Tyler Wilbur to talk about his 2022 whitetail season. Tyler has grown up in Pennsylvania hunting mountain bucks and over the passed few years his #1 target buck is an old warrior at his hunting camp. Chasing this buck year after year never getting a crack at him and this year that all changed. Unfortunately Tyler put a shoulder shot on this giant Pennsylvania 8 point but hit a limb and deflected the arrow into the shoulder. We talk about bouncing back after putting a bad shot on a big buck and everything that comes with it. We always say you gotta hop right back in the saddle and get after it and that’s exactly what Tyler did to end his 3 year drought of shooting a buck with another 7 year old buck who was definitely a mountain warrior having broken his G3. Lots to talk about in this episode and quite a few rabbit holes but Tyler’s 2022 story is a wild one full of ups and downs but because he stayed persistent with a positive attitude, he was able to have a memorable and successful season!!
On this episode we switch it up and Jon and Tyler take over the hosting roles to talk about Gavin’s Kentucky public land buck he shot 4 days into his rutcation. This was Gavin’s first year hunting public land plus he was doing it out of state in Kentucky. He started scouting this swamp land marsh that is also river bottom and it makes for some unique whitetails. The first mature buck he got on camera was a beautiful 8 point he named “Seabiscuit” after hunting hard opening week and jumping this buck out of his bed on day 4 of our first hunting trip back in September, little did Gavin know he would come 30 yards eye to eye with this exact same buck over a month later in early November!! Gavin and Dylan’s week hunting public land in northern kentucky was better than we could have even imagined, seeing a different mature buck every single day we were there!! On this week of The Weekly Whitetail Report I’m joined by 4 guest that are hunting 4 completely different types of Whitetails. 1st guest is Tyler Wilbur who’s a team member on the Whitetail Bloodline. He’s hunting mountain Whitetails in Pennsylvania which is known for the large numbers of hunters which also brings some of the most pressure in the entire county. Lots of pre rut activity and it’s getting fired up in Pennsylvania leading into this week.2nd guest is Angelo Giannoni who is also a Whitetail Bloodline Team and he lives in the concrete jungle of Chicago but spends his free type managing his newly bought property and chasing chasing Illinois farm country Whitetails. Angelo has been seeing a lot of pre rut sign and has seen young bucks chasing but is still waiting for it to hear up a bit but he knows any day things could shift and Whitetails could start getting into rut mode hardcore. 3rd guest is John Williams who hunts swamp bucks in the Georgia swamps!! He has already shot a great buck this year and with the new intel he just got, he is going after the biggest buck he has ever had on camera. Lots of pre rut activity in Georgia and deer are on the move but typically in mornings and at last light. John is very hopefully and the rut should getting rocking in his neck of the woods very soon.Last but not least I get Jon Landwehr a Whitetail Bloodline Team member and talk central Kansas Whitetails with him. Kansas is getting fired up and Jon is starting to see a lot of bucks on their feet in daylight hours and has lots of bucks hitting scrapes right now. The next week will be a great time to be hunting Kansas Whitetails.This was a great episode with a ton of information. If you’re hunting Midwest Whitetails you should be getting fired up because bucks are starting to chase, the first doe’s are going into their estrous cycles, rattling and grunt calls are a great tactic to use, hunting over active scrapes is a go to this week, hunting the down wind side of doe bedding is also a great option this time of year. Bucks will start hitting the ground like no other and Scrape Week is upon us so get out there and get after it because you can’t kill them on the couch!!

We talk about the buck he just shot in Iowa that he named “Freak Nasty” and that’s because he was a freak of a non typical whitetail. From having summer history with this buck, having him travel over a mile to two different permission properties, all the way to killing this giant mid west whitetail. On this weekend episode I’m joined by Tim Palmer from Pennsylvania, Austin Stone from Missouri/Kansas, and last but not least Drew from Central Wisconsin. This is the last week of October and bucks are starting to show pre rut activity and are starting to make scrapes and rubs a lot more frequently. Lots of bucks are starting to daylight so this week will probably be the calm before the storm but still great odds of getting a big mature buck on his feet during this last week of October leading into Halloween. Acorns are still hot through most of the country and a lot of the agricultural fields have been harvested so that’s also a primary food source for most of the Midwest. With the drought we’re having a water source is a great place to focus on this week if there isn’t an abundance of water in the area. The rut is just around the corner and the next cold front that rolls through should get things kicking and bucks should start cruising a lot more as the first few doe’s of the season start coming into their breeding cycle!! Weather isn’t the best this week but don’t let it discourage you because bucks will be moving this week even if the weather is undesirable. I’m joined on this Episode by Lance Krueger who is a professional wildlife photographer that specializes in Whitetails and Wild Turkeys. We talk about how he got his start in photography and how it lead him to where he is today. Lance is arguably the best Whitetail photographer of all time and after the years of looking at his pictures he’s definitely got my vote. We talk about getting these pictures of these allusive whitetail bucks isn’t half as easy as most assume. He has figured out how to get up close and personal with these mature bucks year after year and if you’ve read been around whitetail magazines throughout the years, it’s almost certain that Lance was the man behind the camera on a couple of those Magazines covers. We also talk quite a bit about Texas Whitetails and how many of the ranches out there are letting bucks walk to many years past what most of the country would but after many decades of managing Whitetails they decided on a average a buck reaches his max potential antler size at 7 1/2 years old. We talk about the benefits and reason why many people throughout the country are letting bucks reach a much more mature age than ever in the United States history. I had a blast recording this episode and learned a bunch about photographing Whitetails and much more. We’re joined on this episode by the one and only Lee Ellis who is one of the founders of Seek One and has popularized “Door Knocking” for permission properties to hunt monster Whitetails on. If you don’t know who he is he’s well known for killing giant bucks in urban hunting zones (especially hunting Atlanta Georgia Suburbs. We get into the absolute giant buck he killed in Nashville on the opening day of Tennessee Archery season. He didn’t think this hunt was going to go down how it did and it just goes to show sometimes it’s better be lucky than good. We also talk about what’s new with Lee and what he’s getting into this season. One state he has been fired up to hunt is Kansas and he was already getting on great bucks at the beginning of the season and is itching to get back out there and chase beloved Kansas Whitetails. It was a great time recording this episode and getting to know Lee on more of a personal level. We truly appreciate everyone joining us for this episode and can’t wait to see what our second year of recoding this podcast takes us. Gavin and Dylan are on this episode and it’s the 1 year anniversary of the podcast!! We talk about “The Farm” property and the 3 years of hunting it. We’ve been chasing a buck we named “Drop Tine” for year 3 and we just got him on trail camera hitting one of our mock scrapes in daylight with season opening in 2 days here in indiana!! We get into the lessons we’ve learned hunting this property and the things we’re doing different this year to better our odds at our target bucks. Mock scrapes and Cooks Fatal is one of our favorite things to not only get pictures of bucks in early fall but one of the places we believe will be our best odds to shoot one of the bucks we are after. Hunting these farmland bucks in ridge country is a different ball game, from the wind, thermals, steep ridges, and thick cover with agriculture fields on the tops it’s very unique whitetail property and you really never know what might walk out. Indiana Whitetails are one of their own and we can’t wait to be back in a tree chasing Whitetails.
I’m joined by Tim Palmer who had a life riding bronks and after his retirement he went all in on whitetail hunting and he’s had some great success throughout the last couple years. One of his biggest passions is chasing public land Whitetails on the ground during the rut. Tim goes into what he’s doing and the strategies he’s using to get up close and personal with mature bucks off the ground with his bow. We cover a ton in this episode and it’s one I believe y’all will enjoy just as much as I did recording it. On this episode Carson Putnam joins us to talk about his giant non-typical buck he killed in 2021 on his family property in late November!! This crazy and unique buck scored a remarkable 269 inches and only had an 8 inch spread!!! Carson might’ve only been 16 but after hearing the story of this buck and how it unfolded, I can tell you there ain’t many 16 year olds like Carson. He was able to keep his composure and stay persistent to wrap his hands around this once in many lifetimes buck!! After a shot they weren’t super confident with on this buck, they ended up calling a tracking dog and after a few hours the story finally came to an end and Carson wrapped his hands around this freak buck. North American Whitetail Magazine will be dropping an issue with the story of this buck in the first week of October so make sure to snag one and hear more about this awesome buck and great kid!! Jon chases early season Kansas Whitetails with his son as they hunt the 10 day youth season. Gavin and Tyler chase out of state public land Whitetails in the river bottoms and swamps of Northern Kentucky. Weather got the best of us on our Kentucky trip with crazy thunderstorms rolling in while we were hunting. We learned a ton on this trip and actually got eyes on a shooter we named “ Seabiscuit“. Tyler made it to Kentucky from Pennsylvania to hunt opening week with Dylan and Gavin. In this episode we talk about opening day of Kentucky archery and all the chaos that we experienced with the crazy weather that moved in on us in the evening hunt. We also talk about naming bucks and having years of history with a single buck and how much more special that is if you end up being able to shoot him. We also start taking about our Kentucky opener that is in less than a week away and how fired you were after getting a giant public land buck on trail camera on Gavin’s last scouting trip this past Saturday.
Gavin and Jon are joined by the owner of GB feeds Greg Bieker who just opened his small batch, specialty deer feed this year but he has been developing it for many years. Jon has been using these feeds for a couple months now and he is 100% a believer in it!! Greg goes into the ins and outs of GB Feeds from when and how he got the idea to start his own feed company but also why his feed is different than anything you’ll find. There’s two products that are offered, (corn candy, buck chow) both have their place in every supplemental whitetail feeding program. After we get done talking baiting Whitetails and the tricks and things they’ve notice from running them basically year round for many years, we talk about Greg’s “logo 8” which as it sounds is the buck he killed and is now the logo for his company. The unique thing about this 180” Kansas GIANT is his crazy eye guards that are 12 inches long!!! On this episode Gavin and Jon talk with Matt Tagget, one of the founders of REK Breoadheads “The Final Cut”. We talk about how the Michigan USA made company got its start and the ins and outs of what they’re doing different compared to other broadhead companies in the industry. This episode is a first for our podcast, I’m riding solo and talking about my high hunting pressure propriety thats only 26 acres with neighbors legit hunting on all sides, with neighboring houses on 3 parts of the property. On this episode I’m joined by the newest member of the Whitetail Bloodline and a previous guest on the podcast Jon Landwehr. John has been getting after giant mature Kansas Whitetails for years and has two bucks over 200 inches and he’s going for his 3rd this season. Jon talks about a crazy spot and stalk story where he was using a heads up decoy and brought a GIANT into 3 yards and I could only imagine the adrenaline rush that came with that. We also talk about planting summer food plots like corn, soybeans, screens, clover, and no till “poor man’s” food plots. Troy had four years of history with this North Carolina Leucistic white Gobbler!! This isn’t only one of the most unique and bad ass turkeys ever killed but it’s also one of the most exciting and pure insane turkey hunts I’ve ever heard!! I gotta give props to Troy because in this episode you’ll hear how he went straight linebacker Ray Lewis to make sure he got his hands on this gobbler!! It was a great time talking with Troy and appreciate him taking the time to share this awesome and once in many lifetimes turkey hunt! Gavin is joined on this episode with some of the Whitetail Bloodline guys Dylan and Cory. We’re all heading to Kentucky for our first out of state turkey season!! Gavin and Dylan will be starting off the weekend on a two new private pieces they just got permission on over the past week, no prior knowledge about the property but the home owners say there are turkeys on it all the time so we’re fired up to get after them!! Cory will be hitting a different part of Kentucky on public land, Cory has done his fair share of scouting the past few weeks and is ready to get after his first public land turkeys!!!
On this episode it’s more of a turkey hunting BS session with Angelo Giannoni who’s from Illinois!! As usual we get off topic taking about other things but there’s still plenty of good information to get you fired of for this turkey season and I bet there’s a couple things you’ll hear that you never would’ve thought about because I know Angelo definitely made me think about trying some of his turkey hunting tactics that would’ve never crossed my mind!! Always a great time talking with Angelo and we’re both looking forward to getting in the turkey woods this weekend!! Kansas is the land of the GIANTS!! On this episode Gavin is joined by Kansas big buck killer Jon Landwehr!! Jon was able to do the unthinkable and kill a 229 5/8 Kansas monster with his bow!! We go into the full story of this beautiful buck he named “Zeus”. From getting the first trail camera pictures of this buck to holding him in his hands for the first time, it’s all covered in this episode. I had a blast talking with Jon and am going to have to get him back on to talk about the other 200”+ buck he killed the year before in 2020!!!

From what you should do when you put a bad shot on a deer to deciding to call a deer tracking dog, Chris Miller is the man with the answers!! We also talk a lot about getting new hunters in the outdoors and some changes we would like to see in Indiana for hunters in the future. Chris talks about what the different types of blood that a deer will produce when they’re shot, depending where it was shot and what that blood means for you. I know we learned a ton on talking with Chris and I believe everyone will take something from this awesome episode like we did. On this episode Angelo Giannoni hops on and talks some Illinois Whitetails. He was born and raised in the concrete jungle of Chicago and spends his weekends getting away from the city doing all things Whitetails. Angelo just bought a new property that buds up to his family property that he’s been hunting sense he was a pup!! On this episode Gavin and Dylan are joined by their guest Wesley Green from Indiana. He’s been hunting open country bucks in Central Indiana where there’s a lot more agricultural fields than there is woods. Most of the properties he hunts only have a few acres of woods spreading from around 10-40 acre chunks of timber, surrounded by corn/soybeans. Wesleys area is primarily low deer density numbers so he has to do his homework and sometimes wait a year or two before a mature enough buck of his liking comes onto his property. On this episode we talk about Wesley’s 189” pope and young buck from 2019, in which is a great learning story for not only him but I think anyone could take something off his experience with this buck. We also talk about the 6.5 year old he shot this passed season in 2021 and a background on the 5 years of history and multiple encounters that he had with this buck before he ended up putting an end to that story!! Wesley is pro staff for Anilogics and he talks about some his favorite products that they have to offer. Gavin and Dylan are joined on this episode by one of our local taxidermist Ethan Csereklye. Gavin took the buck he shot this past season in 2021 to Ethan so he’s excited to see his skills when he gets his buck back here in a few months. We go over the process of mounting a deer and others animals. Ethan gives tips to think about before you shoot a deer or the things you should be thinking about the moments after shooting your deer and knowing you want to mount it. These little things you can do to make the taxidermist life easier giving you better odds of having a beautiful mount once he’s done. We also ramble on about random whitetail stories and just some good ol boys talking hunting. On this episode Gavin and Dylan are joined by Daniel Johnson!! Daniel is a whitetail fanatic who has a passion for hunting Whitetails and their sheds!! Over the years he has found an abundance a great sheds and has killed many good bucks including a 226” Southern Indiana corn fed monster whitetail buck in 2016. We talk about the story behind this buck and all the emotions that come along with chasing a 200+ inch buck. We also talk about his shed hunting tactics and things he looks for that help him be successful while shed hunting. We cover Indiana Whitetails and also Kentucky Whitetails because Daniel has lived and hunted both states throughout the years. Some topics we cover in this episode are using entry and exit routes to get in on deer without them knowing you were ever there. Are cell cameras good? Hunting a particular buck and hunting his particular personality because every buck has a different way of surviving. Derik has been an avid whitetail hunter most his life and as the years went on he started getting into mobile hunting, using saddles and hang ons both. One of the most important tactics he uses is staying mobile while also being versatile in his setup and thinking outside the box while also being open minded to try new things. Derek is a fellow Southern Indiana Deer hunter who has tons of knowledge to spread and we just scratched the surface in this episode. Chris is a bow guy and ended up shooting this buck with his bow during Indiana’s gun season in late November. I’m joined on this episode by Chris Short, he’s one of my good buddies from Southern Indiana who’s a big buck killer of big woods Whitetails!! We talk about the years of him hunting these big steep ridge bucks and the tactics he’s learned to end up 3 peating (3 bucks in a row, 3 consecutive years) starting in 2016, which ended up being his biggest bucks to date. I hunted with Chris filming him and we had the same buck come in about 50 yards but didn’t give any shot opportunities. What Chris learned from that year (2015) ultimately helped him start shooting these studs. Chris is also a die hard bow hunter in which he only carried his bow throughout the entire season for multiple different seasons while never picking up a gun, even during firearms season. I had a blast catching up and talking Whitetails on this episode so I hope you guys enjoy it half as much as I did!! I’m joined on Episode 11 by my good buddies Parker Hale and Jackson Stierwalt from Indiana. We dive into their experience over the last decade chasing swamp land Whitetails and what they’ve learned throughout these years. The property they have butts up to the Wabash River with Illinois being just on the other side, so it’s needless to say with these thick swamps, River bottoms, and surrounding Agricultural fields it can produce pure giants!! We also dive into the buck Jackson killed this year with his bow in the beginning of November. One thing both these killers can agree on is being mobile snd treating your private land like you’re hunting public land is the best thing they’ve ever done for getting in on some mature Whitetails!! Swamp Bros and Reel Outdoors join me on this episode and I’ll tell you it’s a good one, we dive into public land hunting in Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky for some Midwest Whitetails. Curtis (Reel Outdoors) has put it a ton of work, time, and miles this off season on preparation for this year and was trying to get his first out of state public land buck. Parker (Swamp Bros) talks about his public land journey this year that led to a GIANT public land buck at full draw on his first day of his 2021 rut-cation. In the same week he ended finding a human skull on the same public land property and all the madness that came with it. We’re just getting into the public land game but it’s becoming to be addictive as can be. Both these guys are bug saddle hunters and it’s definitely been paying off for them. It was a great season with 4 bucks going down between us three guys (Gavin, Parker, Curtis) I hope you guys enjoy this Public Land BS session and we’re already looking forward to what next year will bring for us!! Lots to learn and lots of time to do what we love chasing Whitetails!! Mobile hunting is the best way to get after mature Whitetails and that’s exactly what we talk about. We also talk about tracking dogs and a personal experience we had to deal with and deciding a tracking dog was our best bet. While trailing a public land buck for over a mile that headed into private land and what we did trying to do our due diligence and find this buck. Parker ended up finding a human skull on public land and he talks about calling 911 (without service) meeting up with the cops, showing them the location because it was in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and then everything else that led after that. Dustin Huff joins us and goes into detail about his 211 4/8” Record typical whitetail!! As of now before the drying period his buck is the biggest typical ever killed in the United States standing only behind the Milo Hanson buck for biggest of all time. It’s the biggest whitetail ever killed with a crossbow and just an awesome mature buck in general. We also get into the days after killing a world class whitetail and what it’s like dealing with everyone trying to hear the story and get the score of this 208” Indiana monster!! The Huff Buck traveled over 8 miles from different land owners to the property that Dustin ended up killing this buck on. A few people in the surrounding area had quite a bit of history with this giant on trail cameras. Once in many lifetimes buck and it was awesome hearing this story first hand from Dustin!! At only 5 years old he’s one of the biggest bucks ever killed!! One thing you can learn from this episode is you never know what could come by just like this world record whitetail traveling over 8 miles and who knows how many properties he tracked through, giving many people a chance at this Monarch!! Whitetail rut is finally here and opening day of firearms season is 1 week away!! Gavin is joined in the podcast studio with team members Brady and Collin, along with their buddy Spencer. We’re also joined with our non-local team members Austin (Tennessee) and Nik via phone call.
