This week's Mantras are:
1. Mother Nature can be your best friend or your toughest opponent. Work
with her, not against her. Eat when hungry. Don’t eat when not hungry.
2. If you are craving breakfast, don’t eat lunch. Respect your body’s voice. It is
smarter than you.
3. Remember, nothing is fattening when you are hungry, and everything is
fattening when you are not.
When you understand the significance of these mantras, you are on your way to a Happy Weight Mentality.

You know the story. You were a little heavier than
you wanted to be, and you dieted and you lost weight,
And then you gained it back and
you ended up heavier than ever.
This is what diet mentality thinking
does to you, my friend. Look around.
Look at your own life.
Look at people in your life.
My name is Meg Meranus.
I also fell into this trap many times
from the ages of 14 to 40.
And in the year 2000, I turned 40 and
I stopped dieting and I've never looked back.
And the way I was able to get and stay
at my happy weight was to develop into an intuitive
eater rejecting diet mentality thinking and instead connecting to the
wisdom that I had all day long.
And so do you.
Are you sick of diet culture but
you still want to lose weight? Stick with me.
I'll show you how.
My name is Meg Meranus.
I was a heavy duty Dieter from the
age of about 14 or 15 to 40.
And in the year 2000, I said I'm
done and I became an intuitive eater.
And it was one of the best things I've ever done.
And I'm here to show you how to do that as
well so you can get and stay at your happy weight.
And that second part, the staying at your happy
weight, is the thing that diet culture just ignores.
Like, that's not important.
But of course it is because you've been on diets
and you've lost weight, but you've gained it back.
Right.
And you don't want to do that anymore.
So again, stick with me and I'll
show you how to do this.
Every morning when you get up, instead of weighing yourself, replace diet mentality self talk with these thoughts:
I can have it all, just not all at once.
I am not being "good" or "bad," I am being responsive.
I'm looking for progress, not perfection.
So let's break down why these are so important.
I can have it all, just not all at once.
When you look at a beautiful plate of food, instead of feeling stress because you are afraid you will overeat, think:
I am so lucky to have this plate of food in front of me. It is all mine. And I can eat it all. But I do not need to eat it all right now. It is here for me whenever my hunger comes for me. There is no urgency, I don't need to hide this or eat it quickly so no one will see.
Whenever I have hunger. I can languish over it, I can eat it quickly, and I can eat it all. I simply will do this when I have hunger and it will be a great experience.
I am not being "good" or "bad," I am being responsive.
I will not judge myself for eating less or for eating more.
Instead, I will simply work on connecting hunger and eating, and non-hunger with non-eating. That may mean that I eat more than I expected, or less. Either way, I will get out of the way of my body's wisdom.
By doing this, my body's voice will get stronger and stronger will guide me to my happy weight mentality.
I'm looking for progress, not perfection.
I will not underestimate the magnitude of the transformation I am making in my life. To go from a diet mentality to a Happy Weight Mentality is a life changing endeavor.
Because I realize this, I understand that there will be days when I doubt if I can do this, when I am influenced by people around me who are dieting and losing weight.
And there will be days that I feel like I am not doing this perfectly.
And on those days, I will remember that perfectionism is a diet mentality thought.
And I am an imperfect human being doing the best I can. Every time I connect eating with hunger, I will smile. And every time I don't respect hunger and satiety, I will gently remind myself of the wisdom of learning how to eat in response to these cues. And I will smile again.
When you went on your first diet, you envisioned this result:
You, at the weight you want to be, being happy and eating normally, not still dieting.
But that never happens.
Instead, you become a dieter, a lifelong dieter.
What should you do instead?
Instead of copying dieters copy people who were born before the diet industry normalized diet behavior.
Where are these people now? Well, sadly, in my lifetime, I have seen the almost complete extinction of these people, like my grandmother who was born in 1900.
I learned how to ignore diet messaging from her, and I am here to show you how to ignore that messaging and learn to be at your happy weight by eating intuitively.
As you begin to understand the value of eating intuitively, understand this:
The reason people diet is not because they work.
The reason people diet is because we have been brainwashed to believe diets work because:
-Everyone around you diets.
-You saw thousands or tens of thousands of ads
-Before and after pictures of short term weight loss make you think that the weight loss is permanent.
The diet industry has the perfect business model- when you gain the weight back, you don't blame the the company that sold you on it, you blame yourself.
Don't fall prey to that anymore.
You need to understand what your diet mentality is doing to
your thought processes as you try to become an intuitive eater.
For example, you are at your favorite restaurant eating your favorite meal and even though hunger is gone, you say to yourself, "I'm just going to eat this."
Stop, and do this.
Pretend that you can never diet again, not because you're an intuitive eater,
but just pretend that for some other reason, you can't.
Take away that possibility of a future diet because you will differently with that plate of food if you can't use a future diet as a bargaining chip to release you from pairing eating with hunger.
You can't fall into, "I can go on a diet or I'll just go work out more on the elliptical or whatever."
Using a future action, such as dieting or working out more, derails your progress as an intuitive eater. "Deal making" sabotages your ability embrace the beauty, wisdom and health of eating intuitively.
I know all these thoughts. I had them all.
And what are you left with after you make such a deal anyway? Is it fun? Is it glorious? Or, is it a sinking crummy feeling as in, "Okay, great. Payback time."
It's like being in debt.
It's no fun.
And if you use exercise to justify eating more - as in past hunger - consider this scenario:
You say, I will over eat and then I'll go on that elliptical and I'll burn an extra 500 calories. So you go on the elliptical and you see the screen say 500 calories burned, and you hop off.
What you don't realize, and what no one ever talks about is that the elliptical shows the amount of calories you're burning.
But it doesn't say that if you didn't work out at all, you would have burned 150 just existing, so it isn't an extra 500 it is an extra 350. (I am using hypothetical numbers to make a point.)
So we always overestimate how much exercise actually burns.
As a fitness instructor for years, I say people constantly over estimating how much exercise burned off. In addition to that, when we calculate how much food we've had, in general, we underestimate how many calories are in our food.
I don't want you thinking that way!
First because it is likely inacurate, and second because eating food and then planning to "pay back" the over eating later by dieting or work outs is a joyless, unnecessary way to be at your happy weight.
Instead, be an intuitive eater where math is NOT necessary!
And an important step is to understand why deal making with the future is harmful to becoming the intuitive eater you deserve to be.
A big part of developing your HWM (Happy Weight Mentality- Intuitive Eating for Weight Loss) is allowing your body to show you what your hunger rhythm feels like.
But we soon-to-be ex-dieters have a huge fear of hunger!
We remember those times when we went to bed hungry, or ordered the smaller portion that wasn't enough.
Dieting teaches us to fear hunger.
But you must dismantle your fear of hunger in order to lose weight as an intuitive eater. That doesn't mean tolerating hunger and not eating! Let me explain.
Dieting taught you that you were NOT ALLOWED when you WERE HUNGRY.
And that bitter experience resonates deep within your body's memory. Your body does NOT want you to do that again.
But intuitive eating is about NOT EATING when you are NOT HUNGRY.
When you build your HWM, you do not deny hunger. But you first have to learn what your true hunger feels like. And if you are afraid of your hunger, you cannot do that!
You don’t have to give up being at your happy weight to escape diet culture and dieting! Learn how to use the wisdom of intuitive eating for calm weight loss that is in sync with your body. It is permanent and it is sustainable- #weightloss #intuitiveeating #weightlossjourney #happyweightmentality

Let's do a quick exercise.
Take a good hard look at that number.
Can you see that what you are doing IS NOT working.
Are you ready to consider something else?
This can be hard to do because you have to admit to yourself that what you have been doing or years, or decades, doesn't work.
This can be a hard thing to swallow.
After all, you envision all the times you put the latest and greatest diet book on your nightstand, all the times you threw away all the "bad" food in your pantry on the eve of a new diet, and all the times you and your co-workers went on a weight loss challenge.
Could all of that really have been wrong?
Yes.
And yes, it's tough to accept this because no one wants to think they wasted so much time, energy and money on a paradigm that doesn't work.
So how will you ever get to your happy weight without dieting?
You replace your diet mentality with a whole new way of thinking about food and eating. It's called building your Healthy Thin Mentality (HTM).
Instead of following food rules and constantly fighting your hunger and cravings, your HTM will use your hunger and cravings to lose weight.
So this week I want to focus on three things
Every day this week, throughout the day, pause for a minute or two. Sit quietly and actively feel your hunger. Is it there? Was it strong 10 minutes ago but now it's calm? Is your stomach growling? Does that thought of food make your mouth water. Does hunger feel completely quiet? Don't fear it, don't try to manage it, don't try to smother it with food. Just calmly sit and see how it feels.
Purpose: You are getting to know what your hunger feels like. This is an essential skill to successfully build your HTM.
Have a wide variety of food in your kitchen that you know you like. For me, for example, I always have rye bread, cheese, steamed broccoli with butter, cookies, potato chips, hard boiled eggs, chicken, fresh spinach and blackberries. This is just an example, you stock your fridge with what you like.
Purpose: So that when you are hungry you can start to match cravings with what food you actually eat. You might have a bite of chicken and think, "No that isn't it," and then you eat a blackberries in a spinach salad and you feel your body celebrate. You will get better and better at this- give yourself time.
As a dieter, you were used to a certain amount of "suffering." You went to bed hungry, you ate vegetables when you were craving bread, you felt weak because you were waiting until meal time or your "eating window." There is none of that when you build your HTM. You are never suffering. When you are hungry you eat what you crave.
Purpose: You stop believing that you are suffering when you ARE NOT eating when you ARE NOT are not hungry. When this light bulb goes off in your head, you are on your way calm, steady permanent weight loss.
I guess it is no surprise that the most commonly asked question I get is how do I stop eating when I know I am not hungry, but I just want to eat more.
Keep these five thoughts in your head:
1. I can eat it all, just not all at once.
2. I am not asking myself not to eat this, I am asking myself to simply wait until hunger is back.
3. If I want to prioritize being at my happy weight, I have to eat less. And eating less by matching eating with hunger, not non-hunger, is not suffering.
4. I deserve to eat delicious food, and eating when hungry makes food delicious.
5. I got used to eating without hunger, but I can change that. Every time I wait for hunger to eat, my healthy thin mentality gets stronger and stronger.

Is binge behavior or over eating the bigger problem for you? Or both?
To overcome both of these patterns it is really helpful to understand the differences between binge eating and chronic over eating because they need to be addressed differently.
For binge eating, you must rebuild trust with your body. And that is done by calming your body down with consistently appropriate amounts of food. When you do this- BINGE BEHAVIOR GOES AWAY.
I know that is hard for bingers to believe, but it does. You don't diet because you binged, you binge because you dieted... That is one of my favorite sayings.
For chronic overeating, you need to stop making deals, and STAY IN THE PRESENT.
Thoughts that help are:
I can eat this whole thing, just not all at once
Feeling hungry is fantastic, because that means it is time to eat.
The only thing that matters is that am I, in this moment, hungry?
If any of this post sounds familiar to you, and I am sure it does, I want to assure you that taking the time and energy to build your Healthy Thin Mentality is the best gift you will ever give yourself.
Whether you struggle with binge behavior, over eating, or both, learn how to end this fight, once and for all.
You will be so happy that you did.
And you will be the one at a party, calmly looking at the buffet, not in fear, but in joyful anticipation of a wonderful eating experience.
You want to lose weight without dieting?
You're at the right place.
Here, we learn to eat intuitively. It's called building your Healthy Thin Mentality.
And unlike some intuitive eating programs, we respect your desire to lose weight. I will show you how to do this calmly, gently and with respect for your body,
Our workbook and online course are derived from my own journey out of diet mentality thinking.
Everything I do here, on our website, and on social media is to help my fellow dieters get out of the grip of the diet industry.
When you're making the transition from a dieter to a healthy thin mentality person with a normalized relationship with food and eating, the first step is to get rid of your diet mentality.
We're going to melt thoughts like, "Are my macros balanced" or "Is it my eating window?" right out of your brain.
You're going to say "Bye bye, you don't work, all you do is make me obsessed."
But there's a second step that's really important. You have to put something in that void.
You can't just say, "I'm an intuitive eater now. I just eat what I want when I want,"
because you've not eaten normally for years or even decades!
So it's a very big step to go from all that controlled diet talk to immediately eating intuitively.
You've gotta have a path and that's what building your healthy thin mentality is all about.
You will replace diet mentality thoughts with healthy thin mentality thoughts that will protect you from situations like you go out to lunch and your
best friend just lost 10 pounds on a diet and you think, "I better diet."
You need to understand how to avoid the trap of falling back into being a Dieter. And it is a trap.
Stick with me, and I will show you how to get to your happy weight, once and for all.

Our message here is to disconnect from your diet mentality and develop a Healthy Thin Mentality (HTM) instead.
HTM eating is based on the principles of eating intuitively.
But HTM eating has a slightly different take on eating intuitively...
Most eating intuitive programs are geared toward accepting being heavier than you want to be. And that is completely fine. Obviously, that is totally your choice.
But I focus on intuitive eating that guides you to lose weight by helping your body and mind recover from the injury of past diets.
Yes, dieting literally breaks you.
To heal, you have to actively repair that relationship between you and your innate eating instincts.
You must remember, our bodies fiercely defend us against food shortages.
You just can't cut calories and not understand the impact that has on your body.
The impact that has on you cannot be overstated!
Do you remember the first time you diet, and that feeling of wow, it's just so easy to lose weight?
That's because that's the first time you dieted. But from then on, your body is set to be on guard for food shortages.
Can you change this? Yes, this is what the healing is all about.
How do I know?
Because I have done this myself and I have helped thousands of people in countries all over the world do this as well.
But it takes a commitment to understanding why diets don't work, and then replacing that diet mentality with Healthy Thin Mentality thoughts.
Our workbook and online course go through all of this, step by step.
Here is the kind of thing our workbook/online course goes over to help you ward off diet mentality thoughts.
This is from our "HTM MANTRAS" section:
"Where has common sense gone! Now, people are comparing sugar cravings with cocaine addiction. This silly thought was popular about 15 years ago when someone pointed to a study of rats who behaved just as addicted to sugar as they were cocaine. Well, they neglected to say that they starved the rats! So, yes, if you are starving, you are going to treat sugar like cocaine because you're trying to survive!"
It's misinformation like that that reinforces diet mentality thinking and demonizing food groups.
It is important to become familiar with these kinds of misrepresentations as you build your HTM.
As you leave your diet mentality behind, and join us in the happy, healthy thin mentality world, take the time to do the work of understanding how we all got where we are- overweight and obsessed with food and eating, and how to return to normalcy, stress-free eating, AND your happy weight.
THIS COULD MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE FOR YOU IN 2022
Here's a brand new way that I want you to think about as you get into 2022 and you're using healthy, thin mentality thinking to lose weight permanently.
Think about it like this instead of doing what a Dieter would do, which would be implementing very rigid rules. and trying to be so perfect. Don't think about rules. Think about policies more like you are your own little company and what policies do you have?
And that way, it's not so perfection on off driven. It's more: This is my policy. And of course, sometimes a policy gets broken, and that doesn't mean the policy is then obsolete or is now irrelevant.
It just means that you didn't follow the policy for that moment in time, and it releases you from that. "Oh, I really blew it. I'm done." I broke my resolution.
There's no breaking a policy you simply apply it as frequently as you can. If you need help with these kinds of thoughts, we have an online course and a couple of books available on our website. https://dietsarefattening.com/collections/all
And if you need help getting them, email me Meg@dietsarefattening.com.
But more examples of this are as a Dieter, you go out to dinner and you overdo it and you come home and then you just eat more because you've already blown it. That is that "resolution" kind of thinking where again, you're on or off - you are good or bad.
With a "policy" you would say I'm going to go out to dinner and I am going to eat what my body is asking me for when I feel hunger. Then you go to that dinner. And because you're new with this, you maybe eat a little bit more than you wanted or you end up eating something you really didn't have any hunger for.
You're still making progress because you're aware of it, of what you're doing. So your "policy" is to match eating with hunger. And when you don't, you evaluate what went on.
And our workbook is a great place to practice this evaluation. This is important because with taking notes or journaling, you are "noticing" yourself. And getting to know yourself as a healthy the mentality eater is really important.
So you just take that moment to evaluate, as if you were your own company and an employee did something that wasn't quite right. You don't immediately fire them. No, you bring them in and you say, okay, what went on here? How can we do this better in the future?
That positive take on this is really important. And remember, your healthy thin mentality is built on positivity and love for yourself and love for the food appreciation that you even have food, because not everybody does, right?
So it's built on this positivity, whereas diet mentality thinking is very negative. It's, "Oh, no you blew it!" You're rule-driven. And when you break it, you feel guilty.
With a policy focus and your HTM, you gently guide yourself to a beautiful place to live, where you eat in response to hunger. And you don't eat when hunger is quiet, you simply wait a little while until it percolates up again.
And then you get another great eating experience.
Guys, please, like, share and subscribe to our channel here. It's really helpful. And if you have anyone that you know who might benefit from this message, please share. Because we're trying to make a difference.
We're trying to help people out of that rigid diet mentality that leads up and down weight. You know it does! Instead merge into this life of loving food, eating and being in your happy, healthy weight. Yes, you guys, you can do this. Stick with me. Okay? Have a great 2022 Happy new year to you all. And I'll see you soon on YouTube, IG, Tik Tok, Facebook and our private facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/1755288358048616
STEP #1- Stop dieting. STEP #2 - WHAT DO I DO NOW?by Meg Meranus December 17, 2021
I get it!
When you stop dieting because you realize that if dieting worked you would already be thin, you may find yourself thinking, "Now What?"
That is why we have the resources here, so you have guidance to make this transition. And the enormity of that transition should not be underestimated.
The way you think about food, eating, weight loss, and weight gain needs to EVOLVE. And that can only happen if your diet mentality DISSOLVES.
As it dissolves, replace, it bit by bit, day by day, with HTM thinking.
Please don't just stop dieting and leave a void!
Have the HTM thoughts ready to go, and ready to be happily reinforced by you.
Friends this is what our Online Course, and workbook/book are all about.
You need to take the time and energy to not just say no to diets, you need to learn how to say YES to yourself.
As in:
Yes, I will feed my body when it is hungry.
Yes, when my hunger is quiet I will delay eating.
Yes, when my body craves carbs, I will eat them.
Yes, when my body craves greens, I will eat them.
Yes, when my body craves a tall glass of water, I will have that.
Yes, when my body craves sleep, I will sleep and not eat instead.
Friends, live in this place of power, instead of a world where diet companies, apps and gurus treat you like a kindergartner.
In this podcast, I explain the essence of our message and why you should join us. You really should.
REMEMBER THESE 3THINGS DURING THE HOLIDAYSby Meg Meranus December 1, 2021
Do not let your brain wander away from the key question for HTM eaters: am I hungry? It is tempting to make "exceptions" for eating without hunger because it is the holidays. But giving yourself permission to eat without hunger, because of a party or whatever, weakens your connection with hunger-driven eating. And hunger driven eating is the habit you want to strengthen. It is the essence of building your HTM- so protect it. Always, no matter what time of year.
If you find yourself eating more when you drink, just take some extra effort to stay in touch with hunger AND satiety. Even under the influence of alcohol, you can train yourself to keep your HTM strong and growing. Dieters frequently use alcohol to ignore diet rules. Of course, if you lose control with alcohol, you should avoid it for lots of reasons. But HTM people can drink in happy moderation and still pay attention to hunger and satiety.
Remember, friends, I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice.
And this, my friends, is how you lose weight permanently and joyfully. You CAN do this.
You've probably heard of the slogan, "hack your metabolism."
That is the tagline from Lumen, a new app/hardware combination that includes a tool that measures your metabolism, via your breath, to determine if you are burning fat, carbs etc.
Then the app uses this information to recommend what to eat, what exercise to do, etc.
But telling people when they are burning fat versus carbs is a powerful gimmick because people will automatically leap to the conclusion that if they had this knowledge, they would make better choices.
Really?
You know that when you are about to eat an extra brownie you will not be in a calorie deficit anymore. Does that stop you?
If having more information like this worked, we would have already solved the fat problem.
Let me be clear. People WILL lose weight with this.
But, the weight loss will be temporary.
How do I know that?
Because Lumen, just like all other diets, ignores the true cause of being overweight: Eating without hunger.
Instead of teaching you to respect hunger, satiety, and cravings, Lumen further disconnects you from biologically-driven eating.
You learn to ignore your body, in favor of "data."
So, Lumen will sell millions by making people believe that more information equals weight loss. And the reason they will succeed is because people will lose weight, just like they do with virtually any diet.
And then, just like with any diet, lifestyle app etc, they will gain it back. But that won't get much press. And then a new product will come along...

As you are getting used to eating in response to hunger, keep these thoughts in your head.
Notice that when you are hungry, and you begin eating, the first bite is the very best. Notice how that diminishes as you continue to eat. Stay aware of this change so that you realize when eating has gone from amazing to just, "meh." When it isn't great, delay eating any more until your hunger is bright.
Sometimes when we have a bunch of really great food around, we feel pressure to eat it all. And you CAN! Just not all at once... That is a fair trade off, right? You can have everything, just not all at once. Reflect in the wisdom of that thought for a moment...
You aren't sick when you are hungry. You are simply waiting and anticipating for a amazing pleasure. No need to panic, no need to over do it. Look forward to your hunger knowing that it is your cue to eat.
The saying, "hunger pains" makes us believe that being hungry is painful, and that, in turn, makes us believe we need to avoid hunger.
No! Don't avoid hunger! Let it brew within you.
Get used to what it feels like. Recognize that it isn't a straight line, it is a spiral. And learn to take care of your hunger with the food you love at the time which serves you best, where it is the most relaxing, joyful and pleasurable.
I love that first hint of hunger. But I don't eat then! Instead, I use those initial hints of hunger as a reminder that I need to start thinking about how I will take care of myself when this becomes more powerful.
It is a joyful anticipation.
If you have ever, as a dieter, said no to eating when you were hungry, you can do this. This is so much easier!
Saying no to food when you aren't hungry is annoying, at first, because you may be used to eating when you felt a certain way, even if you weren't hungry. But you aren't battling a deeply ingrained biological drive!
So, don't compare saying no when you aren't hungry to saying no with when you are hungry. Differentiating between these two objectives will help you. Your body does not want you to eat without hunger. Your body does want you to eat with hunger.
The first time you say no to eating when you are NOT hungry is the hardest. Over time, happily, this gets easier and easier.
And one day, you will wake up and realize that your Healthy Thin Mentality has become automatic.
And that will be a beautiful day. You CAN do this. Come with me.
Dieters think they need to up their will power to lose weight.
No.
They need to take the time and energy to replace that will power with a reconnection to their own biological cues to eat, and not to eat.
Being connected to a physical drive that you are supposed to respond to is not will power. Will power is going against that drive. And dieters are asked to do that all the time.
Hungry for salad? No, today is an all protein day. Or, hungry at 2 but dinner isn't until 7? Well, no food for you, your window of eating is the only time you can eat.
Following these mandates is will power.
But, when you get into a rhythm where eating with hunger is normal, and not eating without hunger feels abnormal, everything changes.
You learn that will power is not the strength you thought it was. Will power is a state of mind that resists biology in favor of current diet trends.
That, my friends, will backfire as you slide from diet to diet searching for a diet that you can tolerate.
Your HTM will build on itself, not with will power, but with the re-integration of you with YOU. And you will get stronger and better and better at this. There is no end date, there is no "breaking your diet."
This is you, for the rest of your life, eating with hunger, and NOT eating when hunger is absent.
You CAN do this.
Healthy Thin Mentality Mindset:
"I don't understand why I can't shake the thought of eating some cheesy puffs right now. I am going to pour myself a bowl, and stay in the present and fully enjoy them. I will not think about past eating or future exercise as I do this. I will simply experience them fully, without guilt.
And then, instead of eating a mountain of cheese puffs, as a binge-y dieter would, you calmly eat some cheese puffs without stress. And that calmness, positivity and non-panicked feeling allows you to hear your body say, "Enough."
That one bowl of cheese puffs doesn't turn into three bowls and 5 cookies. It is simply a bowl of cheese puffs that for some reason you just couldn't get your mind off of.
It may not be a day that you go into calorie deficit. But it is still a good day.
What you have done is behaved normally around food. You have done what a naturally thin person does, crave some junk food, had some, and gotten on with your day.

In order to eat with hunger, you need to be able to identify it, right?
Our ancestors would surely roll their eyes at us if they saw how ridiculous our relationship with food has become. I can't tell you how many times someone has said to me, "I don't even know when I am hungry."
So, when you are eating, grade each bite on a scale of 1-10 in terms of how great it is to be eating. Do this a lot to notice how food feels when you are truly hungry, and how, even though you THINK food is always great, there are different levels of enjoyment.
Notice this!
That first bite with hunger, is it a 10? How many bites are a 10? What are bites 5-7 like? Are they still a 10 or are they an 8 or a 5?
Once you are eating and you find yourself paying more attention to other things than the food, perhaps the pleasure is down to a 5?
I would call that neutral and start pushing away from the table.
And then give yourself a few minutes to see how you feel. Is hunger still tapping on your shoulder?
If it is, take a bit more. How do you feel?
Get used to asking yourself these questions.
I talk about hunger all the time because hunger is your guide. You must pay attention to it, get to know it, and LOVE it.
Love hunger?
You bet. As long as you can afford to eat, hunger is an amazing drive that is extremely fun to satisfy, right?
Don't fear it, embrace it. And when it fades, say to yourself, "As soon as hunger comes back, I will see what my body craves, and satisfy it and it will be delicious.
Hunger makes eating amazing.
Years of dieting leaves you handicapped.
You must re learn how to eat in response to true hunger and non hunger. Is it that simple? Yes. Bank is made on you believing it isn't. Your body, is after all, smarter than that app thingy you are wearing...
Follow me to a wonderful world where eating is an extreme pleasure, not a stress fest, and you get, and stay, in your happy weight for the Rest of Your Life.
You were born with this wisdom, dieting trained it out of you. Get it back.

Losing weight is about eating less than your body requires.
No one argues with that.
How you do this is pivotal to your ability to not lose weight, but how to keep it off.
So how does Healthy Thin Mentality (HTM) thinking differ from all the other, "Here is how you should eat," messages out there?
Here, hunger is not the enemy. Hunger is your best friend. This is not because you want to stay hungry, it is because when you are in tune with your hunger, when you know what your hunger feels like, when you know how to satisfy it, when you can feel what foods nourish you the best, when you know your body's unique rhythms, everything changes.
Why?
Because when you take the time and effort to familiarize yourself with your body's voice, expressed as hunger and cravings, you have the most powerful tools there are to guide you to what, when and how much to eat.
And when you team up with your hunger and cravings, instead of squashing them, you no longer eat as much because you aren't afraid of hunger, you aren't derailed by hunger, and you don't live your life avoiding hunger or demonizing foods.
Instead, you welcome hunger and your cravings.
And when you are trying to lose weight with our Healthy Thin Mentality message, you learn how ride that edge of hunger. And that is where weight loss is.
What do I mean?
With your HTM, you divide hunger into three stages:
STAGE 1. You notice hunger. It is not interfering with your life - you just feel that "edge."
STAGE 2. Hunger is bothering you, it is interfering with your ability to live your life and do your tasks, routine etc.
STAGE 3. Your are "Hangry." You feel frustrated and unhappy. You would eat just about anything available instead of being willing to wait a few more minutes for something that you really like.
The space between Stage 1 and Stage 2 is where our message lives.
Stage 2 is the time to eat. But many of us eat at Stage 1. Stage one is just your body saying, "Hey, I am going to need food soon." It is not an emergency, and it would not take much food at all to completely quell Stage 1 hunger.
But we treat Stage 1 as Stage 2.
Instead, learn to appreciate Stage 1. Stage 1, if I can use a strange metaphor, is like foreplay. It is an anticipation. It is joyful. It is fun. I use this metaphor because it is also a biological drive and I am trying to give you ways to understand how this feels.
Then, we you get to Stage 2, and you feel that green light from your body saying, "Yes, I need food now," you will enjoy eating very much. You have "hunger sauce," but you aren't in any way suffering, like STAGE 3 hangry feels. As you eat in STAGE 2, stay acutely aware of how quickly you get back to STAGE1 and through STAGE 1 back to the complete absence of hunger.
Friends, learn this. Notice how food changes in your mouth from "AMAZING" when you are in Stage 2, to "SO SO," when you get back to Stage 1, to not joyful at all when you are without hunger
Our workbook will help you get through this and help teach you these steps.
And, you will learn how pushing off hunger- being "hangry," will absolutely backfire. You are not being "good," when you ignore Stage 2 hunger and you get to Stage 3: You are setting yourself up to actually eat more.
So, to wrap this up.
Acknowledge to yourself that you are going to eat less because you want to lose weight.
Acknowledge to yourself that you will do this by working with your body's hunger instead of by ignoring it.
Acknowledge that the beauty, pleasure and joy of satisfying hunger, WHEN YOU CAN AFFORD FOOD, is something to be grateful for every day.
So, stop wishing you could eat more. And appreci

Believing that you were born naturally thin is an important step to building your HTM.
When you understand this, you will be free.
How does this work?
The diet industry has convinced you that without guidance, you would be heavy.
Thin dieters who are "good," and follow these rules are held up as heroes, and role models.
If you too are "good," you too will be rewarded with the body of your dreams.
We are taught to follow celebrities, expensive programs, checklists, apps and food rules instead of the true hero, Mother Nature.
When you return to the wisdom of Mother Nature, you will you will be rewarded with the body of your dreams, not when you pay some app or follow some celebrity on IG.
But it is tricky because in order to have the confidence to reject dieting, you have to trust your body.
And for a lot of us, when your body is heavier than you want it to be, you don't feel safe trusting it.
But you must.
Remember, your body didn't fail you. The diet industry did. That extra weight you carry is a result of dieting.
If you had never had dieting as an option, if you had never dieted, what do you think you would weigh now?
A lot less.
Look at a picture of a crowd from 1950. See all the thin people? That would have been you. Without dieting, you may not have been the skinniest, but you wouldn't have dieted your way to be where you are now.
The diet industry has made us fat.
Your Healthy Thin Mentality will take you back to the body you were born with.
And that is exactly what you want: your body, as Mother Nature intended.
Enjoy the benefits of fasting within your healthy thin mentality mindset.
If you are one of those people who naturally go for hours without hunger, then honor that.
I am not telling you to skip meals when you are hungry!
But, if you are like me and frequently don't get hungry at the typical breakfast time, do not buy into the, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," mantra supported by the cereal industry!
No, use your body's natural desire to take a break for eating to feel fantastic, and in the end, eat less.
Some HTM eaters do not do this! Some do. It is not a decision you make, it is an instinct you follow.
So if you find yourself going from 7 pm until noon the next without eating, don't despair, don't celebrate, don't judge.
This is just how your body guides you. Respect it.
If you choose to follow a fasting program, understand that it will bring back all the negativity of diet mentality thinking. Confining eating to "food windows," is very different than going for periods of time not eating with your HTM.
With your HTM, you always respect hunger, and non hunger. So even though I typically don't eat breakfast, if I wake up hungry, I eat with joy, gratitude and the best sauce of all, hunger.
When you get your Healthy Thin Mentality "Aha" moment, everything changes.
Here is what to do to make that happen.
Understand HOW you got heavier than you want to be. The first part of our workbook helps you decipher your true eating/dieting history. Understanding the truth of this helps you to commit to never dieting again and that is essential to your HTM.
If you don't understand that dieting is the culprit, you will flit around our message, liking the freedom and joy of it, liking the common sense of it, but not QUITE believing it is the answer.
That completely sabotages your efforts because lurking in the back of your mind is:
"Well, if this doesn't work, I will go back on a diet."
That destructive thought will grab you out of the present and make you live your life in a moment that doesn't yet exist, The Future.
And your HTM depends on your commitment to live in the present.
No deal making, as dieters are so apt to do: I will eat this and then diet later, I will work out now so I can lose weight by this weekend, I will save calories by not eating now so I can eat a big dinner later. I will fast 23 hours and stuff myself for one.
There is no deal making here. There is no grandiose plan to do something better next week.
There is just NOW, where in the only moment you have, the present, you answer your body's call to eat or to not eat.
I understand that you are filled with trepidation because you have been stung so many times.
You've bought the gimmicky products in the hopes of flat abs. Or you have thrown away all your food and only consumed protein drinks, only to gain back more than we lost. Or you have had to re purchase your "fat" clothes...
Friends, this is not a gimmick. This is not trendy. This is you, returning to you. This is you, without the influence of a diet industry that thrives on handicapping you, that thrives on making you believe you are out of control, by making you think that you need food rules.
But, you don't break your diet, your dieting breaks you.
So here you are in your aha moment realizing that there are more than two choices:
You, accepting living in a body heavier than you want it to be.
You, obsessing and dieting.
This is the third choice-
You, pairing eating with your natural instinct to eat and not to eat, and losing weight calmly, by aligning with the person you would be if you had never dieted at all.
Diet and you are a dieter. For the rest of your life. Behave healthy thin, and that is what you become...
So, here is a quick story from the other day. Hope you find it helpful.
Just a slight perspective change about how you look at food, changes everything. Learn what naturally thin people do that has been trained out of dieters!

What if you changed that to "I want weight loss that is permanent."
Because "NOW" and permanent do not go together. "NOW" is quick fix, keto, fasting, ignoring hunger, denial, strange rules, sadness, deprivation, guilt, anger.
PERMANENT weight loss by building your Healthy Thin Mentality (HTM) is joyful, delicious, harmonious, fun, life affirming,
BUT IT IS NOT QUICK. IT IS NOT 10 pounds in 10 days.
But it is joyful, fun and so much easier than dieting.
So you choose.
Quick and horrible?
Or permanent and joyful.
It seems like an easy choice, but we love quick. And that "Quick Fix" mentality is what keeps the diet industry booming.
"Tell them they will be thin by summer."
"Tell them they will drop two jean sizes by next weekend.
"Tell them they won't be hungry."
I worked for Nutri Sytem - I saw exactly how it works. This is what we were told to say. Diet companies, even influencers who promote diets are BUSINESSES. They are making money off of your pain.
They want you as a customer FOR LIFE.
(I quit Nustrisystem when I saw amazing people, beaten down by our diet, regaining weight, and signing up again. I knew it was a farce.)
Friends, when you lose your hunger because you are on a diet, that is the biggest cause of rapid rebound weight gain!
Your body goes into hoarding mode. After your diet is over, one potato causes a 3 pound weight gain. Yes, your body is protecting you from starvation with a lower metabolism and an increased attraction to food.
So you go on another diet because you have shown yourself how uncontrollable you are. But the diet is what caused this!
This is what your Quick Fix mentality gets you!
Friends, can you be patient? Can you tell the person who is bugging you to lose weight to leave you alone? Can you tell yourself that you deserve permanent weight loss, not another miserable yo-yo cycle?
Can you give your body a couple of months to heal from your last diet and then experience the joy of harmonious weight loss?
Some of you will lose weight right away building your HTM.
But if you just came off keto, or another extreme diet, you need to teach your body to trust you. You need to pair hunger and eating and get back into that rhythm of trust with your body.
When your body trusts that you will not starve it again, or bully it with weird cleanses, "challenges," or fasting, the weight loss begins.
And you will never look back.
