We know what the Amazon is, but do we know how vital it is to our survival? The Amazon provides 6% of our global oxygen supply and 10% of the planet's biodiversity. It is the largest rainforest in the world spanning more than 2 million square miles with over 400 billion trees. Unfortunately, both Brazilian politicians and industries like soy and beef are prioritizing economic value over the planet's health, causing mass deforestation and forest fires.

Companies like Tentree and Planterra recognize the dangerous levels of greenhouse gas emissions being released into the atmosphere, and have decided to contribute by planting trees and donating portions of sales to environmental charities. These initiatives illustrate that businesses can still achieve profits while fulfilling a social purpose.

With the recent explosion of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, the public is only just learning about these coins' carbon footprint. Mining is the process by which new Bitcoins or other cyrptocurrencies are entered into circulation. This process requires extensive computational power, and in turn, substantial electricity. Much of this electricity is generated unsustainably as the majority of Bitcoin is mined in countries that are not optimizing renewable energy sources.

Over the next 30 years, Bitcoin mining alone is expected to warm the planet by 2 degrees Celcius. This is obviously taking a huge toll on the planet and some potential solutions include alternating the Bitcoin's consensus algorithm and categorical bans from regulators.
