This season, the Yes Girls are all about crushing it in-studio, and this episode is no exception! They are saying yes to showing you how to conquer anything yes-tifiably, even if you're strapped for time.

And speaking of time, let's introduce the expert himself: Chris Kirwa (Instagram: @chriskirwa)

Chris is an event planning guru with 20 years of experience. Safety and security are his middle name. He's the founder and COO of CateChris Limited, your one-stop shop for corporate, government, and basically any kind of event you can imagine, plus other PR-related services.

And so Chris is here to help the girls SLAY the time management game.

Best of all, he is throwing them a crazy role-playing Yes challenge (a scenario that actually happened, by the way) for no more than 15 minutes. He then sits in as the judge (with his all-seeing event planning wisdom!) then spills his secrets for conquering the clock.

Buckle up, Yes People. You're about to get productive!

Here's a sneak peek:

  • The Yes Girls' challenge: Can they tackle a time management task with Chris as their judge, jury, and executioner (well, kinda)?
  • Chris gets real: Chris shares his pro tips (plus some Yes Girls' only exclusives) for mastering your minutes and why time management is your new superpower (no matter your profession).
  • Timeless philosophy: The girls are getting down and dirty with Chris' best time management beliefs.
  • Are you doomed forever? Chris spills the tea on whether some people are just destined to be late or if they're just making excuses. (Spoiler alert: there's hope for everyone!)

BEWARE: This time management episode includes crisis management examples that will help you prioritise your tasks like a boss, inspire you to be more productive, and offer productivity hacks and time management tips & techniques even if you are the busiest of people.

Bombaclat! That's enough procrastinating over here.

Time for you to hit play and start getting sh*t done!

Parenting is an extreme sport and the adventure of a lifetime. Are you game? Will you say yes when the time comes? Or have you already? For the Yes Girls, it's about time—at least for one of them.

Claire Baker was indeed baking a human being by the time this Yesticle was due for recording, so it made perfect sense to bring in a friend of the podcast to participate in this huge conversation and offer some much-needed advice for a first-time Yes Girl boy-mom.

So, joining the girls in the studio is a Yes Girl in her own right, founder of Hadithi Collective, producer and host of Mama Tales Podcast (Instagram: @mamatales), and (as the girls like to call her) a certified "motherhood expert."

Sally Kuria (Instagram: @sallymugure) is here to offer her insights and wisdom on what motherhood means/has meant for her, what it means to be a parent, how to manage stress as a new mom, how she finds time for self-care and personal interests as a busy mom, mom guilt, what it is, and how to overcome it, what it meant to return to work after maternity leave, how to involve fathers, what present fatherhood means, how to interact with kids (whether yours or not), and how to balance motherhood and relationships.

The parenthood journey is a beautiful, transformative experience, but it also comes with challenges and unexpected turns. Listen in to discover what this can mean for you now or in the future when you say "yes" to being intentional about it.

This cringefest of a yesticle is proudly sponsored by an NSYNC-decorated A4 notebook-turned-diary.

Yes. For this one, the girls are diving headfirst into the time capsule of a version of Akumu that you probably know nothing about.

It goes like this:

Akumu shares two relics from the ancient diary, and with Claire as her laughingly supportive cohost, they psychoanalyse the teenage musings.

The first entry is a masterpiece that'll have you squirming either in secondhand embarrassment or firsthand laughter, similar to what can be heard from Claire and the chuckling male producers in the background.

You'll then be whisked away into a second reading of Shakespearean proportions. It's a diary entry so eloquent it could rival the works of a Medieval Bard.

So grab your snacks and join this crazy ride through the trials and tribulations of a millennial teenager.

So in this brief under-15-minute self-deprecation, Claire and Akumu delve into the mishaps, messes, and mayhem encountered in the studio, including those experienced by their guests and producers.

Yes, it may lack a clear purpose, but rest assured, it's bound to elicit a few chuckles from you.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Yes Squad! It's mini episode i.e. yesticle o'clock once again. For this one, Akumu and Claire are recapping the crazily enlightening challenges from Season 6, where they said 'Yes!' for only a 24-hour period because why not shake things up a bit, right?

First up, imagine stepping into someone else's shoes, quite literally! They dove headfirst into the unknown by swapping roles and embracing the chaos of being each other. Let's just say it was a wild ride!

And then came the culinary chaos! Saying 'Yes!' to being a chef meant facing off against their culinary fears, from flambe disasters to soufflé meltdowns (in their own heads). Gordon Ramsay would've had a field day with their kitchen anxieties!

Then, things got a little more melodious as they tackled the daunting task of learning a musical instrument. Spoiler alert: they pulled some strings.

Next, they embarked on a journey of inclusivity by saying 'Yes!' to learning sign language. Let's just say that communicating with their hands opened up a whole new world of expression!

Oh, and who could forget their stint in the world of PR? From crafting the perfect press release to mastering the art of persuasive writing, they discovered that there's a whole lot more to PR than meets the eye. Talk about spin doctoring with style!

Last but not least, they tackled the ultimate fear for most humans on this earth: public speaking. Armed with courage and a healthy dose of "ah-counter" fright, they took to the podium and embraced the power of their voices. Who knew stuttering through speeches/panels could be so empowering?

So, whether they were swapping identities or braving the kitchen inferno, Season 6 was a rollercoaster of 'Yes!' moments that left them laughing, learning, and loving every minute.

Stay tuned for more adventures, more learnings, and of course, more 'Yes!' challenges coming your way in Season 7. Until then, keep saying 'Yes!' and keep living your most epic (mis)adventures yet!

Get ready to face your fears head-on with the Season six finale of the Yes Girls Podcast alongside your hosts, Claire and Akumu. For this one, the girls say yes to public speaking with the best experts in the game. And all of this became possible after they serendipitously found themselves in the right room at the right time.

While they were busy prepping another Yes challenge related to the public (i.e. Public Relations) at Baraza Media Lab, they stumbled upon a Toastmasters International meeting and right there, with a brilliant stroke of luck, the final piece of this challenge's puzzle fit right in.

Claire and Akumu then proceeded to Yes-fully ambush the leader of that lucky and extremely talented group, none other than Japheth Musau, the District Director for East And Central Africa. Japheth was gracious enough to invite them into the meeting and offer them tips for their public speaking engagements later that week at an Afripods/Baraza Media Lab event.

Like all other Season six Yeses, this was meant to be a one-day challenge. But joining an unplanned club meeting on a Tuesday evening and being an actual public speaker on a Thursday evening makes up a day, right? Right!

So, whether you're a seasoned speaker or someone who breaks into a cold sweat at the mere thought of addressing a crowd, join them as they say yes to embracing the power of their voices and transforming fear (and filler words) into confidence, one sound bite at a time!

Yup! It's your lucky day! From understanding the fear of public listening to mastering the art of captivating an audience, this episode is packed with eye-opening revelations and practical advice. You'll get quick insights about public speaking anxiety, everything you need to know about Toastmasters International, effective communication skills & presentation skills, simple public speaking techniques, and the tricks of impromptu speaking.

You'll be so ready for that next speech, we promise!

For this episode, Claire and Akumu embark on a unique Yes challenge – learning sign language with support from the incredible team at Pallet Cafe in Nairobi (Instagram: @palletcafe_ke), a trendy spot known for its amazing food and dedicated deaf staff.

The adventure was slated for a Sunday morning during a scheduled sign language masterclass at Pallet Cafe's Lavington establishment.

However, things took an unexpected turn when Akumu missed the alarm and her cohost's subsequent phone calls, leaving Claire to take the lead on this linguistic journey.

Claire shares her initial nerves and excitement, taking charge of the challenge while supporting Akumu in catching up with the basic signs.

The question is: did the Yes Girl successfully conquer this challenge, or did her signing skills leave her and those around her lost in translation?

Tune in to find out and discover what you need to know about sign language, how different or similar Kenyan sign language is to American Sign Language (ASL), what makes basic sign language so easy to learn, the challenges that the deaf community encounters in Kenya, the need for inclusivity and accessibility, why you should get started with sign language tutorials, videos and resources online, or why you should sign up for sign language classes near you.

The top Yes Challenge suggestion from the Yes People has always been to learn how to play a musical instrument. So Claire and Akumu didn't just get ANY instrument - they got hold of electric guitars and learnt a thing or two from an ultra-seasoned musician eager to unravel the secrets of guitar mastery.

The guest expert for this episode is Ross Patel (Instagram: @rossnairobi) - a session guitarist, singer-songwriter, mix engineer, and the maestro behind Snowball Industries (Instagram: @snowballindustries): a recording and production studio serving musicians and podcasters of Nairobi. In case you didn't already know, Snowball is also the home of this very podcast.

With Season Six being all about day-long or less-than-a-day challenges, the girls needed some kind of miracle to move from clueless to better than beginners and Ross was just the guy for that.

It all began with the age-old debate: electric versus acoustic.

In the episode, Ross provides the lowdown on the distinct characteristics of electric guitars and why they might just be the key to unlocking your inner rockstar. He shares one of the fastest ways to learn the electric guitar and offers quick tips for anyone itching to strum those strings.

His is a crash course on becoming a guitar virtuoso! From beginner guitar lessons to mastering basic chords to figuring out what to learn first, Ross has you covered with invaluable insights to kickstart your musical journey.

Listen in for a dose of Ross' infectious passion for music and actionable tips for anyone willing to say yes to learning a musical instrument.

Whether you're a seasoned musician or a curious beginner, this episode is your backstage pass to the world of electric guitars. Tune in, turn up the volume, and let the music in!

Right after the 50th episode milestone is this flavour-packed encore! Join Claire and Akumu, as they embark on a tantalizing culinary escapade in partnership with Cultiva Kenya.

Watch this episode's VIDEO DIARY >> on our YouTube channel.

Cultiva describes itself as Nairobi's premier destination for eco-friendly, farm-to-table dining. They are not just a restaurant, but a sanctuary that transcends the ordinary; where the act of cultivating and creating takes centre stage. They consider themselves a haven where organic heirloom crops flourish, and where people's skills and talents are nurtured. "Cultiva" is Spanish for "cultivate" and the restaurant's founders hail from Ecuador.

Remember that this is Season 6 meaning each challenge unfolds with a unique twist—a deep dive into a new world or skill, all within the confines of a single day. So thanks to their grand plans of wanting to experience what it means to be a chef in a professional restaurant, Akumu and Claire had their work cut out for them. The culinary stage was set, and the Yes Girls, guided by the culinary virtuosos of Cultiva Kenya, were ready to serve up insights and inspiration.

The girls stepped into the chef's shoes, or rather hats, behind the kitchen counter and learnt everything they needed to know about what it feels like to prepare, manage and serve a breakfast menu on a busy Sunday morning.

This episode peels back the layers of crafting delectable dishes, uncovering the rhythm of a professional kitchen, and sharing behind-the-scenes secrets that make the culinary world and Cultiva spin. Best of all, the girls gained insights into the mysteries of an ever-changing restaurant menu, the sustainable farm-to-table concept and a professional chef's daily routine and responsibilities, particularly a head chef.

Listen to the episode if you are curious about what a chef does, what duties they are in charge of, the realities of being one in a busy kitchen, the pros, cons, and common challenges of being one, the skills necessary for culinary school and for anyone that wants to work professionally as a chef, why the career might be harder than you think, the benefits of working in a busy restaurant and kitchen, and what expert advice seasoned chefs might give to anyone who wants to become one.

A lot to learn and a lot to consider the next time you step into a restaurant like Cultiva Kenya! Tune in.

It's Season six, people! And officially the 50th episode! For this one, the Yes Girls are doing the old switcheroo i.e. stepping into each other's shoes and walking a day in them. Watch the YouTube video diary for evidence. It's called the "old" switcheroo because it has been in the YES challenge parking lot for years.

It was an easy choice as an option for this Season because the wildcard for the next 5 episodes is to see what can be achieved WITHIN a single day while doing, being, and learning something new.

So unlike all other YESpisodes, Season six challenges were done in a couple of hours.

And yes, this was the longest of all of this season's challenges. That's because for Claire to be Akumu and Akumu to be Claire, there was a list of guidelines to follow for an entire day i.e. from morning to evening hours.

So listen in if you're curious about doing your switcheroo challenge or empathy exercise i.e. walking a mile in someone else's shoes, building empathy, empathetic thinking, structuring your perfect day, what a perfect day means, what a normal day looks like for two very different human beings, why testing out a different kind of routine is important, and why stepping outside your comfort is always a good thing and consistently recommended for personal growth. Tune in!

This is a special mini episode, better known as a Yesticle, featuring one of the "doulas" that helped bring this podcast to life back in 2021--- Doris Onyango, the Production Manager at SemaBOX, Africa's largest podcast incubator.

She has an engaging conversation with Akumu and Claire that delves into the world of female empowerment, feminism, and women's rights, by touching on gender stereotypes, women's liberation, gender discrimination, women's movements, feminist movements, the gender pay gap, women's education, and women's representation.

Doris shares her own experiences and insights as a woman in Kenya, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs she's encountered along the way. Akumu and Claire eventually challenge her to explore the concept of feminine energy and its significance in creating a space where women can thrive, both personally and professionally.

And last but certainly not least, Doris celebrates the incredible journey of women podcasters in Kenya and shares details about the groundbreaking Dada Podcast Incubator, the world's first podcast incubator designed exclusively for women and non-binary individuals. She explains the vision behind this unique initiative, its mission to amplify diverse voices, and how it is shaping the future of podcasting in and for the Global South.

So tune in as Akumu, Claire, and Doris Onyango celebrate and demonstrate the strength and resilience of women through insights, stories, opinions and, of course, lighthearted laughter.

This is a special mini-episode, better known as a Yesticle, featuring the dynamic Molly Jensen, the Chief Executive Officer of Afripods!

You might need to buckle up as we journey through the remarkable story of Molly's life and career - a tale that spans continents, cultures, countries, and what all of that translates to in her role in building a bigger podcasting pie for Africa.

Molly Jensen, a Ghanaian-American born in New York, has devoted her career to revolutionising African storytelling. As the CEO of Afripods, she's at the forefront of building the largest library of African audio stories on the planet, right from the heart of Nairobi, Kenya.

Afripods, exactly where this very podcast is hosted, is a free pan-African podcast hosting platform. It is a game-changer that not only provides a platform for African creators but also amplifies their voices across the continent and within the Diaspora.

Afripods' incredible capabilities include categorising content in over 50 languages and curating material from over 30 countries, including individual podcasters, radio stations, and media houses. It's truly become the home for African podcasting, it's fostering the growth of diverse narratives and talents.

But make no mistake---- Molly's journey isn't just about technology and innovation; it's also about advocacy and empowerment. She's not content with just digitizing African stories; she's on a mission to ensure African creators take up as much space as possible in the global podcasting landscape, all while creating avenues for them to earn what they deserve for their hard work.

Beyond being an accomplished CEO, Molly is a speaker who's graced prestigious stages worldwide. Her impressive resume includes appearances at Podcast Movement, Africa Podcast Day, Africa Media Festival, BBC Media Leaders conferences, WAN-IFRA Digital Media Africa conference, and Advertising Week Africa.

She's also been featured in prominent publications such as Forbes, The Guardian, Reuters, JamLab Africa, Podcast Sessions, and Apple Podcasts, solidifying her position as a thought leader in the podcasting realm.

Her commitment to personal growth and well-being is evident through her role as an EQ Ambassador for Six Seconds, a global non-profit focused on emotional intelligence awareness. In a world increasingly driven by technology- even as someone leading a technology company, she emphasises the importance of understanding and nurturing emotional intelligence.

And when she's not busy changing the podcasting landscape or doing some much-needed advocacy in the spaces she's in, Molly enjoys exploring the world through her travels, adding to her rich tapestry of experiences.

That right there makes her the perfect person to speak to about the African diaspora, diaspora identity and belonging, diaspora vs. assimilation, hyphenated identity, diaspora community support, roots and heritage, multiculturalism, the role of language, and the power of diversity.

Yup! It's one of those opening-up and vulnerability kind of conversations. You have been warned.

Coffee is life, right? Especially for Claire Baker who, by the way, almost worships coffee and who is, for this episode, saying YES to learning barista skills and finding out a whole lot more about the details of this world-famous beverage.

Be sure to watch the VIDEO DIARY as well!

Similar to Season 2, only one of the girls is saying YES to each challenge and uniquely, this Season features not just one but TWO experts.

For this particular challenge, Claire had to learn as much as she could about the coffee-making process but she got a couple of surprises along the way because there's a lot more that goes into making a single cup of coffee way before it gets to the barista's to-do list.

The first expert that Claire got a masterclass from is Martin the Barista, aka Martin M. Makau, from Masai Coffee. Masai Coffee is a brand of Goldrock International. They are a Kenyan-based coffee company, that has also forayed into the world of tea and leather artisanal goods, but coffee is its lifeblood. Martin is both a trained barista and a barista trainer.

The second expert (who's in the studio) for this episode is Ritesh Doshi. Ritesh is the owner and CEO of Spring Valley Coffee, which is fast becoming a household name in Kenya for its expertly sourced, roasted, and packaged coffee beans and ground coffee, as well as for its boutique coffee shops dotted around Nairobi.

So listen in if you're curious about how to make coffee, what makes the best coffee shops "the best", details about coffee beans and their various types, the basics of coffee roasting and how to grind coffee beans, fair trade coffee, Kenyan arabica vs other countries' robusta coffee, the various coffee flavours, and the rich history of Kenyan coffee.

Coffee is life, right? Especially for Claire Baker who, by the way, almost worships coffee and who is, for this episode, saying YES to learning barista skills and finding out a whole lot more about the details of this world-famous beverage.

You can watch the VIDEO DIARY HERE too.

As the Season 5 debut, the Yes Girls say yes to learning how to rap. But actually, just one of them said YES to this challenge: Akumu.

Watch the video log on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/d4BHH8sYbHU

Certainly the perfect way to start a season where each Yes Girl only does half of the challenges (similar to Season 2). But the unique thing this time though is that there are more experts for each challenge!

You should know that Akumu went into this with no rapping experience - just a deep fear of poetry and a cult-like admiration for hip-hoppers and rappers.

And for this particular challenge, unlike most others, it did not take a week or a couple of weeks to get done. All it took was an entire day (i.e. a rap boot camp) with two of the most talented hip-hop artists in Kenya: Juliani and Tonii Vendetta.

Juliani is easily Kenya's rap and hip-hop godfather, an activist in his own right, and a well-known artist mentor. Tonii Vendetta, on the other hand, is a singer/songwriter, DJ, rapper, music producer, filmmaker, director, DOP, video editor, photographer, a model---- just to name a few.

They both helped Akumu write and cook up the lyrics of her very first rap song as well as her final performance which you will get to listen to (within this episode) in its fully-produced glory flanked by Tonii's newly-minted beats and "hype man" sound effects: the song is titled: Season Ya "Mayoo" ("Mayoo" is a Luo exclamation).

So listen in if you're curious about what it takes to write rap lyrics, how to structure a rap song, how to flow in rap, how to develop a rap style, how to find your rap voice, how to perform rap live or in the studio, and how to use metaphors and wordplay in rap.

This is probably the most pointless episode you'll listen to from the Yes Girls.

For this under-10-minuter, Claire and Akumu say YES to exposing their studio mishaps, messes and mayhem. And not just theirs but those of some experts too.

So yes, it's pointless, but you will definitely get a couple of laughs from it.

Enjoy.

For this miniature episode or Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Akumu & Claire, play Truth or Dare, which they'd much rather call Truth or Yes! So in less than twenty minutes, who'll give in to the truth, and who'll give in to the spontaneous & daring Yes?

Find the video version of this episode here: https://youtu.be/Ysob7UYlDPw

They say YES to exploring whether they've cried recently, their fears and failures, their skills are impersonations and whether they can beatbox.

Here's a list of related episodes that go well with/after this one:

The Yes Girls' book club is in studio for this Yesticle! Representing the large group of "yes girls" who make up the actual book club where this podcast was birthed, are Muthoni Thuo-Ngunjiri and Freyja Oddsdotir.

Muthoni and Freyja join Akumu and Claire to discuss whether they are indeed yes girls, what they would like the originals to say yes to next, what they hope for the podcast in future and other nuggets of wisdom they share freely during the discussion.

This is a mini episode also called a Yesticle, or rather, "a popsicle for yes girls".

Yes People come in many shapes and sizes. And the ones, we mention here are some of the biggest ones the Yes Girls could think of. "Big" meaning "Inspiring x infinity*". Listen in to understand those references.

You can also watch this on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/4LOj0o-RmcM

This is a mini episode also called a Yesticle.

Claire and Akumu discuss their definition of a Yes Person, and the two or more people who they think embody that exceptionally and why.

Yup! Yes People, say hello to Yes Parents! This one's for the ages - literally! The Yes Girls sit down with one pair of the Yes Parents to ask some very important questions.

For this mini-episode or Yesticle, as we call it, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona are in conversation with Claire's lovely parents, whom we are calling Mama and Papa Claire.

This inter-generational discussion covers favourite Yes challenges, the ones that have had the biggest personal impact, the ones that would have been possible decades ago, the one that would have been perfect decades ago, the ones that would be perfect to try in future, what stepping outside your comfort zone means, and what it truly means to be a Yes person.

In essence, this mini-episode refers to episodes across all four seasons.

Here are the specific concepts, ideas and older episodes mentioned in this Yesticle:

This is also a video episode which you can watch on the Yes Girls YouTube channel & subscribe as well.

For this episode, or rather, mini-episode or (much rather) Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona lay out all their learnings, lifelong lessons, not-so-shocking disappointments, and unexpected missteps relating to the six Yes challenges completed for Season 4.

They share what they've learnt from just a little over 5 months of doing, being & learning new things that they'd both (kind of) never done before.

So in essence, this episode is about looking back at a season in which they both said "yes" to:

For each of these episodes, they also got feedback and opinions from a number of amazing and smart Yes Kids!

In this episode, they cover the high-impact episodes or challenges, what they've learnt, whether they've seen any benefits, why some were really challenging for them, and why the Yes Kids were so important.

They also touch on the overall benefits of trying new things, and why stepping outside your comfort zone is always a good thing!

This is a big one! The Yes Girls say yes to doing kizomba! The perfect way to end Season 4!

Quick correction: Angola is south of DRC and West of Zambia (not East, as said in the episode).

It's worth noting that Akumu went into this challenge with Salsa, Bachata, and Merengue knowledge, while Claire went in with some Mexican and Kenyan" swaying of the hips".

For this particular YES challenge, they each had to acquire the basic steps necessary for Kizomba both as beginners and as gliding females (and follows) on an actual dancefloor.

The unique thing about this challenge was that there wasn't just one expert but an entire community! Yup! The vibrant Afro-Latin Dance Community in Nairobi and beyond.

These experts, ranging from coaches to dance enthusiasts, gave them all the information and tips necessary to immerse them into the world of Kizomba properly.

So listen in if you're curious about what Kizomba is, its origin, its basic steps, why it's such an intimate dance, how to dance it, what makes Kizomba so popular, whether it's difficult to learn or not, the various Kizomba classes & events in Nairobi, and dance instructors, Kizomba vs Bachata, as well as differences between Kizomba and Salsa, and other Latin dances.

For this fifth episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to being plant parents, or rather, as Claire calls it, developing their green thumb or green fingers.

One of them has some experience going in, albeit a traumatic one, and the other has (absolutely) none.

For the challenge, they each had to acquire two house plants and effectively care for them for a 2-3 month period.

The unique thing about this episode is that there isn't just one guest but a couple and more so, an entire community!

Akumu and Claire crowdsource expertise from active members of the Facebook group called Nairobi Plant Lovers, as well as family and friends.

So listen in if you're curious about how to become a plant parent, how to care for house plants, plant care guides, tips & essentials, good plant parenting vs. bad plant parenting, types of plant parent personalities, indoor gardening, house plant names, top indoor plants, popular house plants, best house plants for beginners, house plant/indoor plant types, and some names for them.

For the fourth episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to learning about cryptocurrency alongside Erick Asuma of Kenyan Wallstreet. They did this by taking two weeks to put in a bit of their own money in bitcoin, the most well-known type of cryptocurrency to invest in.

But to get this two-week challenge appropriately done, they needed to learn how to buy bitcoin and open accounts with either Binance, Local Bitcoins, or Paxful. Akumu, on the other hand, opened an account with Coinbase. That means part of this challenge was about them staying informed about the bitcoin price/value, plus bitcoin news, and trying their hand at bitcoin price predictions.

As mentioned, this episode's guest expert is Erick Asuma, co-founder and CEO of Hisa Technologies. Hisa is Africa's first wealth management platform that makes investing social. It allows users access to different investment options like stocks and ETFs. It also provides educational content like news, podcasts and user-generated discussions to improve users' financial literacy.

Erick is also the founder of Kenyan Wallstreet, a leading integrated digital media content platform providing in-depth business news and finance news across Sub-Saharan Africa and the globe.

Listen in if you're curious about crypto in general, cryptocurrency for beginners, the cryptocurrency market, the cryptocurrency crash, cryptocurrency trading, cryptocurrency exchange, how to buy bitcoin, and everything else you need to know before investing and trading bitcoin.

For the third episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "yes" to doing CrossFit! And you know DOING challenges go - it's all about the sweat of getting down and dirty with something new, and boy, was this sweaty and NEW!

But to get this challenge done properly, they needed to look for CrossFit "Boxes" near them and one such place that was happy to help was First Power Fitness, a world-class fitness facility & CrossFit gym, based in Nairobi. First Power offered the Yes Girls one month of full-access membership to learn the ropes.

The First Power facility that the girls used is based at Galleria Mall and caters to Karen, Langata and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It's over 900 square meters (10,000+ sq. feet) of space, dedicated to CrossFit, PowerFit, Olympic Weightlifting and Open Gym. And best of all, the First Power staff is made up of highly experienced and qualified coaches who hold a variety of certifications that make the facility the most diverse gym in the area.

So for this challenge, the girls had to attend intro classes as a CrossFit for beginners baptism and then thereafter attend a couple more classes within that one-month free membership to get a feel of the official CrossFit workouts and understand what this sport/workout is all about.

Their attempts were driven by the fact that they both came in not knowing too much about the sport. Possibly only that it's "tough and cool".

And so, they were excited to take on the challenge! CrossFit for beginners!

What was waiting for them as they went in was a large number of strange terms whether it was the exercise list, the official CrossFit workouts, or CrossFit equipment, and very interesting vocabulary.

On hand to guide the Yes Girls through the entire process were all the amazing First Power coaches: Lauren, Bryant, Collins, Boni, Chris, Will, Rutivi, and the in-studio guest expert for this episode, Tanya Alvis.

Tanya is a First Power coach, CrossFit athlete, badass superwoman, and now an honorary Yes Girl! She ends the episode by giving the girls ratings for their beginners' efforts.

Listen in if you're curious about fitness in general, CrossFit, CrossFit for beginners, CrossFit workouts, WODs, CrossFit Open, CrossFit Games, and what makes the sport so special.

For this first episode of Season 4, the Yes Girls say "Yes" to being yogis or better yet, yoginis! And since this is a BEING challenge, it meant taking charge of more than just a few yoga exercises, yoga poses or handling a couple of minutes of mindfulness meditation.A BEING challenge means so much more than that. And this one certainly did. It meant merging some not-so-obvious yoga benefits with some quite-obvious-yet-surprising meditation benefits into one. And all of that into a two-week-long 6 am practice that included not just any type of yoga but the one and only Surya Namaskar, which literally translates to "Sun Salutation".But first things first - they needed some answers and quite a lot of guidance regarding how to get started with yoga as more than just a form of exercise, how to get started with meditation, yoga for beginners, yoga for health, guided meditation, the best meditations, types of yoga, types of meditations, meditation techniques for beginners, meditations techniques for mental health, plus meditation and mindful apps. They needed to know more. And who better to ask than a mindfulness practitioner from the birthplace of the practice itself?Nisha Parikh is a Hyderabad-based yoga and mindfulness enthusiast and soon-to-be certified expert who merges that practice with a professional and academic background in Psychology. Beyond that, she's also a marketing and talent management professional. She is a mentor to many in her capacity as the Vice President of Marketing and HR at Telebu Communications - a technology company headquartered in Hyderabad, India, with a global team that includes Akumu. As the guest expert, Nisha offered the girls a mind, body and soul regimen, plus some guidance, and off they went in their attempts to become "yoginis"!So listen in if you're curious about yoga and meditation, or mindfulness in general, and would like to know a bit more about why it might just be the best new thing you'll try this year, in the spirit of saying "yes" and stepping outside your comfort zone. You can follow Nisha Parikh here:https://www.linkedin.com/in/nishaparikh/Find everything mentioned in this episode below:Some yoga info and lingo and get you acquainted: https://www.artofliving.org/us-en/blog/yoga-101-a-simple-guide-to-practice-and-philosophy-to-help-a-beginnerUnderstand what an asana is:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AsanaUnderstand what a Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Salutation Here's the actual regimen that Nisha created/suggested:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oE8pQ2UM1uYV1_jaGtT-P13zKvVMwKp_/view?usp=sharingThe Surya Namaskar yoga video used:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1WoZPb48QUThe mindfulness and meditation app used:https://web.insighttimer.com/download-app The "become a morning person" book that Akumu mentions:https://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Morning-Not-So-Obvious-Guaranteed-Transform/dp/0979019710 The blog post Akumu wrote about her first meditation experience(s):https://www.akumufiona.com/post/3-strange-things-that-happened-when-i-started-meditating Africa Yoga Project as mentioned by Claire:https://www.africayogaproject.org/ Yoga With Adrienne that Claire mentions:https://www.youtube.com/c/yogawithadriene **** If you enjoy the podcast, we love you so much! In this episode (rather, a mini-episode or Yesticle), the Yes Girls, Claire Baker, and Akumu Fiona are asking themselves the very question they ask so many others: "what have you said yes to recently?"

From this, a couple of questions arise.

Are they Yes Girls in the true sense of the phrase? Or are they only Yes Girls when it comes to this podcast's challenges and episodes?

That's what they attempt to answer as they share things (both huge and small) that they've found themselves engaged in within the past couple of months.

Listen in if you are curious about being a Yes Girl or Boy, stepping outside your comfort zone, doing "uncomfortable" things, overcoming fear and, more specifically, overcoming the fear of change.

In this mini-episode or (what they like to call) Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker, and Akumu Fiona attempt a new kind of challenge. The challenge of convincing each other to take on a new challenge.

That new challenge needed to be something that one of them has said "Yes" to many times over, while the other has said "No" or "Maybe".

So in this quick discussion, they touch on the worldwide phenomenon that might or might not be the famed Shondaland series called Bridgerton; they also tackle the niche phenomenon that might or not be Elon Musk's Twitter. Akumu starts by using her three minutes to convince Claire to take up one of the above-mentioned phenomena, and Claire does the same soon after.

Do they manage to convince each other to say "yes" to either?

Guess you'll have to listen in to find out!

In this episode, or rather, mini-episode or (much rather) Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona lay out all their learnings, lifelong lessons, not-so-shocking disappointments, and unexpected missteps relating to the six Yes challenges completed for Season 3.

They share what they've learnt from just a little over 3 months of doing, being & learning new things that they'd both never done before.

So in essence, this episode is about looking back at a season in which they both said "yes" to doing standup comedy, with guest expert Brian Onjoro, founder of Nairobi Comedy Club; learning how to manage their money, with Lydia Andrews of Holborn Assets and Love Yourself Financially; being (very) organised, with Toni Crow of Toni Crow Leadership Coaching; learning sound production, with musician and sound engineer Peddo Brian; being activists with the one and only Boniface Mwangi; and doing DJing, with the final guest expert of the series, radio presenter and fellow podcaster, Andy Young (aka Candy Andy).

In their discussion, they cover the high impact episodes or challenges, what they've learnt, whether they were afraid of some of those new things they tried, whether they've seen any benefits, why some were really challenging for them, and some possible new things to try out in the future.

They also touch on the overall benefits of podcasting, how they manage it all, their personal goals as podcasters, the potential future of the Yes Girls Podcast, why it's important to try new things, why everyone should be open to trying new things, and why stepping outside your comfort zone is always a good thing to do!

In this final one of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to DJing! For this DOING challenge, they attempted to step into the shoes of their favourite DJs (and maybe even their worst) and they did this with absolutely zero prior knowledge.

Their attempts were driven by the fact that they both thought they knew better or hoped to become better than those who they feel do the DJing craft (and their audiences) wrong.

And so, they took on the challenge for a week!

The questions they wanted to answer were: what does it take to become a DJ or to learn how to DJ? Can you learn it for free or online or do you necessarily need the equipment? How much can you really learn from a few days of using Virtual DJ? And what DJ advice do beginners or amateurs really need?

On hand to guide the Yes Girls through the entire process and to answer these critical questions was guest expert (a DJ, as well as a podcaster and radio personality) Andy Young aka Candy Andy.

You may know him from Homeboyz radio where he is a regular, or you may have partied to his DJ skills at an event or party. You may even have listened to him on his own podcasts (with a suite of other well-known names on radio) called The Mics Are Open and another one called The Chop Shop. Two amazing podcast recommendations for your ears.

Candy Andy offered the girls the guidance they needed, and off they went in their attempts to become the best amateur DJs they could be!

Also on hand to assist with hands-on Virtual DJ experience was DJ Cray - a DJ by profession and an entrepreneur plus co-founder of Intronix Media - a company that handles a DJ school, on top of offering event and media production services.

Listen in if you're curious about DJing in general, DJing for beginners, how to DJ on Virtual DJ, and what aspiring DJs really need to know and learn.

In this fifth episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to their most challenging "being" episode yet! They both say "YES" to being activists.

But what exactly does being an activist mean? What does it entail, and what are some types of activism?

The Yes Girls explore answers to all of these questions, including why activism is important, how to be an activist on social media, and if anyone can be one.

So for this challenge, the girls had one week to step into the shoes of activists by focusing on topics of their choice. Claire chose to handle the water shortage situation in her local area, while Akumu chose to handle mental health awareness.

On hand to guide them through the entire process was the guest expert for this episode, Boniface Mwangi.

From being an artist himself & travelling the world as a documentary photographer; to promoting the arts in Kenya through a groundbreaking creative space; fighting corruption every day; holding Kenyan public officials to account; seeking political office, and founding a political party. We can't even list everything he does and has done.

He offered the girls the guidance they needed, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become some version of Boniface Mwangi with their topic of choice.

Listen in if you're curious about activism or how you can get started as an activist with a topic you are passionate about.

In this fourth instalment of Season 3, the girls say "yes" to a highly technical and sort-after 21st-century skill! For this LEARNING episode, they attempt to step into the shoes of someone highly skilled. They both say "YES" to learning sound (audio) production!

But is it really sound production they got up to? Or was it sound engineering? Or sound design?

Let's unpack that, shall we?

Sound engineering is the branch of engineering in which professionals work on the technicality of sound and mainly ensure tracks sound good to the ear.

Sound/audio engineers have three primary jobs in a studio setup: editing, mixing and mastering. Such a career path can lead to you becoming an audiovisual designer, a production engineer, or an audio technician.

Sound (audio) production - the term used in this episode - is often used interchangeably with "music production," but they're pretty different. Sound (audio) production is the entire process of recording audio and editing it to make it sound a certain way.

On the other hand, sound design is the process of recording, acquiring, manipulating, or generating audio elements.

So what the Yes Girls placed focused on for this challenge was sound design and audio post-production.

They selected an under-a-minute video clip from the Jim Carrey movie Yes Man. They worked on removing, isolating, normalising and inserting different sound elements and effects that were not already in it.

On hand to guide them through the entire process was guest expert Peddo Brian.

Peddo is a sound producer, a teacher, a songwriter, a guitar player and a recording artist with a fantastic voice. He is also mentioned in EVERY episode as the maestro who composed and recorded this podcast's theme song!

He offered the girls some guidance, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become amateur sound designers!

Listen in if you're curious about audio/sound production, audio post-production, sound design in film, and what a sound designer actually does.

In this third episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to something everyone who's anyone wants to get better at! This is a BEING episode, meaning they both say "YES" to being organised!

But what exactly does it mean to "be organised"? Because it is such a broad topic?!

Well, they each approached it from different angles depending on an area of their lives that they thought seriously needed help in terms of organisational tips, tricks or systems.

Akumu decided to tackle the question of "how to organise your life" with regards to how she managed her goals on a day to day basis. Claire, on the other hand, decided to tackle organisation in her physical spaces at home.

On hand to guide them through the process was guest expert Toni Crow. Toni is a leadership coach and SO MUCH MORE. Her education includes graduate studies at Royal Roads University, achieving her Certified Executive Coach designation and accreditation from the International Coaching Federation (ICF), Bachelor of Science, Lean Black Belt, amongst many others.

Toni offered them some guidance, and off they went into their 1-week challenge to become more organised and productive in life or be more organised at home!

So in this episode, they discuss their experiences building new habits, improving their goal-setting & goal management systems, channelling Marie Kondo and her Konmari system and feeling very accomplished afterwards. Toni also chimes in with her wisdom for anyone looking for tips and tricks on the entire topic, regardless of what they want to organise.

Listen in if you have ever wanted to be more organised at work, home, school, or Uni. It is undoubtedly helpful for you if you are also keen on learning how to organise your life in one week & keep it that way!

In this second episode of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to something they've both never done before very consciously. They both say "YES" to learning how to manage their money better!

They have never really sat down to think about the money mindsets that control how they handle their money, and how that affects their overall money management skills.

So for this episode, they reflect and share how they found themselves managing money as children, teenagers, students, and even as mini-adults in their 20s!

Joining them both in this journey is guest expert Lydia Andrews (www.instagram.com/lydialydzzz), who is a Wealth Advisor with Holborn Assets & a Personal Wealth Coach and Founder of Love Yourself Financially.

She is based in Abu Dhabi but is originally from Canada and has roots in Ghana.

So for an entire 10-day period, the Yes Girls - Akumu, and Claire had a huge challenge ahead of them. They had to fill in the questionnaire and challenge sheet Lydia created for them.

After the 10 days, they discussed their experiences and received ratings and feedback on what they learnt about their money management mindsets and the specific actions they were asked to undertake for the challenge.

This episode is excellent for anyone keen on learning tips and tricks on how to manage money better.

PS: Our resident No Girl for this episode is Freyja Oddsdottir.

Two Nairobi-based wanderlust-ers, i.e. the Yes Girls, are making it their mission to say 'yes' to DOING, BEING, and LEARNING something different every two weeks and documenting their journeys.

This podcast is a strange but interesting result of them saying 'yes' to sometimes challenging, sometimes fun, sometimes entertaining and sometimes downright outrageous experiences!

The Yes Girls podcast is created, written, innovated, enacted, produced & hosted by both Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona. It's recorded and packaged in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, right in the heart of East Africa.

In this first instalment of Season 3, the Yes Girls say "yes" to something they've both never done before! They both say "YES" to doing stand-up comedy!

They are indeed both natural comedians in their own right(s), but doing it professionally in front of a live audience (of half strangers) as the final challenge makes this one of the most challenging "YESes" they've ever agreed to.

So for an entire week or so, their job was to research, i.e. spend hours watching stand-up comedy on YouTube, laughing at and analysing stand-up comedy jokes, maybe watch some stand-ups on Netflix, study and analyse their best stand-up comedians and possibly even search for actual stand-up comedy shows by typing "stand-up comedy near me" or attending comedy shows that Brian Onjoro (https://www.instagram.com/onjorobrian) organises as the founder of the Nairobi Comedy Club and veteran in Nairobi's stand-up scene!

In this episode, or rather, mini-episode or Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona lay it all out on the table. They share who they are; what they like about podcasting, being podcasters or the podcasting life; what they like or hate, general; and what they do when they are not saying yes to doing, being & learning new things they've never done before.

Remember that this mini-episode sits right at the end of Season 2 where one of the girls learnt how to draw a human face, did pole dancing, did social media management, became an online tour guide, learnt about clean energy and became a self-help addict - alongside a guest Yes girl or boy from the podcast's audience, supporters and friends.

In this episode, or rather, mini-episode or Yesticle, the Yes Girls, Claire Baker and Akumu Fiona lay it all out on the table. They share what they have learnt from 3 months of doing, being & learning new things they'd never done before.

They look back at Season 2 where one of them learnt how to draw a human face, did pole dancing, did social media management, became an online tour guide, learnt about clean energy and became a self-help addict - alongside a guest Yes girl or boy from the podcast's audience and friends.

In their discussion, they cover the benefits of the new things they tried, what they learnt, whether they were afraid of some of those new things tried, whether they've seen benefits, whether they will continue pursuing them, some new things to try in the future as the Yes Girls Podcast, why it's important to try new things, why everyone should be open to trying new things, and why stepping outside your comfort zone is always a good thing.

In this final instalment of Season 2, where the Yes Girls certainly changed things up a bit, one of them is the resident expert while another is saying "yes" to something they've never done before! Just like in the other five episodes specific to this season.

For this episode, Claire says yes to being a self-helper, or rather a self-help addict or enthusiast - something Akumu has been completely obsessed with for more than a decade!  So along with specially-invited guests & honorary Yes Girls for this challenge, Melissa Mbugua & Josephine Karianjahi (both directors at Africa Podfest), Claire set out to choose a school of thought under the self-help genre, and figure out how to live by it for an entire week!

They check self-help books, self-help podcasts and just about anything they could find that would help them!

Claire and Josephine choose to tackle self-talk while Melissa embraces music and how to use it with a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

Listen in as Claire (Melissa & Josephine) share their concerns, anxieties, doubts and victories during this challenge and listen to Akumu's thoughts about the ever-lucrative self-help genre, why it gets a bad rap, her addiction with self-help books and podcasts and how to approach it more consciously and mindfully - without the unnecessary fluff.

In this episode, as in all episodes of Season 2, the Yes Girls change things up a bit! Instead of both of them doing something they've never done before, only one of them takes on the challenge while the other becomes the resident expert or "know-it-all"!

For this episode, Akumu says yes to learning about clean energy - something Claire has been very knowledgeable about for years now, both in a personal and professional capacity.

So along with Laura Ombok, the honorary Yes Girl for this challenge (& PR extraordinaire), Akumu set out to learn about clean energy in general, the science behind it, its benefits, and how it translates to real-life impact and behaviours on the ground.

And all of this in just a few days!

But to top it all off, Akumu & Laura had to go out into a Nairobi community where clean energy is in hot need and demand, raise awareness about its benefits, and try to get people to buy in or want to buy in!

Listen in as Akumu (and Laura) share their concerns, anxieties, doubts and victories during this challenge and listen to Claire's thoughts about clean energy, clean cooking, renewable energy and of course Climate Change all at once; she also touches on how she started out in the field and why everyone should consider doing their part in living sustainably.

In this episode, as in all episodes of Season 2, the Yes Girls change things up a bit! Instead of both of them doing something they've never done before, only one of them takes on the challenge while the other becomes the resident expert or "know-it-all"! For this episode, Akumu says yes to being an online tour guide i.e. becoming an expert of a certain place and bringing others along for the journey via HeyGo.com! This is something Claire has been doing for a while now and she is quite good at it! She is an expert at hosting HeyGo Trips, HeyGo Tours and she was great at giving some much-needed HeyGo tips!

For this challenge, Akumu had to prepare an informative script while Claire guided her and created the tour promo on her account. An interesting addition to this challenge was the guest Yes Girl - Adhiambo Agoro, who is a hiker, content creator, and all-around inspirational person.

Listen in as Akumu (and Agoro) share their concerns, anxieties, doubts and victories during this challenge where they did an epic Karura Forest tour via HeyGo. Also listen in for Claire's thoughts about HeyGo in general - how she started out on it, what she is able to do on it and why everyone should consider taking regular online tours on the platform that calls itself "your ticket to the world".

Listen in for the fears, trepidations and triumphs of both of them and why Claire thinks everyone should consider trying their hand or rather, their hands, at pole fitness― despite the fact that pole dancing as we know it, usually gets a bad rap and has been sexualised a bit too much.

In this special episode, the Yes Girls say yes to their toughest challenge yet! "Special" because it is also a video episode - and for good reason! Claire and Akumu attempt something that you must see. Something that made them feel really old considering they are both (old) millennials. For this one, they say yes to doing viral dance challenges or rather, TikTok dance challenges! They watched, practised and were absolutely battered by the complexities of two local dance challenges and one brutal international one. They uploaded them on Tiktok and on Instagram Reels.

They got some much-needed mentorship from creative extraordinaire, Alvaro Daza (Instagram: @alvdaza). Listen in to hear about their experiences and Alvaro's timeless tips on the benefits of dance and how to use dance and art to create a positive impact in the world.

Since this is the Season 1 finale, Claire and Akumu also reflect on the highs and lows of the previous episodes and give a teaser on what's to come in Season 2.

Here are the three dance challenges attempted:

The Yes Girls have never ever coded in their lives. Or have they? Well, the thing is, they have never really coded an entire website from scratch. Or rather a semblance of a website.

So they got some help and advice from Joseph Murgor of MobiDev who suggested that they focus on HTML and CSS which are a good place to start. So off they went to learn how to code online for free on various websites and apps. Joseph also offers coding tips for beginners or for anyone hoping to get started with coding.

Here are the two websites the girls coded:

The Yes Girls really will say yes to some of the toughest things you can think of to 'do, be, or learn'

In this episode, they immerse themselves in learning Greek - one of the world's oldest languages, and also famously one of the most difficult

Can you really learn a new language by yourself? How much can you learn in just three weeks especially Greek for beginners, and for the girls, the million dollar question was, can a fluent Greek speaker understand them by the end of it?

The guest on this episode is Tage Krarup, a polyglot and fluent Greek speaker

In this first episode of The Yes Girls, Akumu and Claire say 'yes' to being vegan for a week

Over seven (actually eight) days of a fully plant-based diet, they kept a food diary and a video/audio diary to share with you the (energy) highs and lows of their experience.

But they don't just share their own experiences; they consult research, explore theories and medical findings, and consult life-long vegans to educate, inform and entertain all you budding Yes girls and boys! Listen to the episode for tips on how to be or go vegan, plant-based diets, plant-based athletism, the benefits of veganism, some vegan recipes, differences between veganism & vegetarianism and vegan product ingredients.
