In our first Mac.Rob assembly podcast of 2021, we explore and celebrate the overarching theme of ‘OUR Past, Present and Future’. What do we remember and miss the most about our past? In our final assembly podcast for the term our Principal, Ms Stout, acknowledges National Refugee Week and speaks about the importance of 'belonging'. Year 12 student Vy Tran shares her experience as the child of two Vietnamese refugees. Vy speaks proudly of her heritage and the need to be informed and empathetic about the experience of refugees. English teacher and year 11 form teacher Deborah Stringer reads a piece of her own literary work that reflects on her experience of connection and belonging during this term. School Captain, Michaela McMahon, and Vice Captain, Aishah Brockhoff ask students 'what does the Mac.Rob community mean to you?', as students from a variety of year levels reflect on the silver linings of the term two online learning.
In this week's episode our Principal Anne Stout and Vice Captain Aishah Brockhoff acknowledge National Pen Pal Day and announce a special opportunity for Mac.Rob students with the students of Queen Margaret College In New Zealand. Year 12 student Bek Larratt performs a stunning rendition of 'She Used to Be Mine' and we hear from School Captain Michaela McMahon about her reflections on the first week back on site. To mark Reconciliation Week Year 12 students Vy Tran and Sharon Taing are joined by Author and Literature Teacher Dr Amy Brown to reflect on and discuss the contribution we can all make to acknowledge, celebrate and honour the custodial and spiritual owners of our lands - our indigenous people. The theme for reconciliation week this year is 'In This Together' - it's more important than ever that we continue build relationships of respect and understanding with all people in our community.
