At UTX, we often times talk about technology being at the center of human progress. Which is true. But there is another factor which we shouldn't forget about, namely how the fruits of technological progress are reaped and distributed, which today is not done in an equal manner.
Richard Olsen's mission is to work against inequality by providing access to financial markets to everyone. With his background as a PhD of law from the University of Zurich and over 25 years of professional experience as an FX dealer, a researcher, a high-frequency trading specialist and a serial entrepreneur of financial marketplaces, he is more than well-served to do so.
The great-grandfather of the crypto sector himself, Richard is founder and CEO of Lykke, a Swiss marketplace and pioneer provider of investment and trading infrastructure for blockchain assets. He previously founded Oanda, a forex and CFD trading platform and data service for traders, acquired by the large private equity firm CVC Capital Partners in 2018. He also co-authored the book "Introduction to High-Frequency Finance".

3D printing stands at the dawn of a potential industrial revolution, allowing for rapid prototyping, high customization and removing the barriers between production and consumption.
Our guest today is Keroles Riad, a mechanical engineer and PhD candidate at Concordia University, Canada. He researches various materials for 3D printing and manufacturing, including nanomaterials and carbon composites.
He focuses on stereolithography techniques, which apply light in a 3D printing setup to shape liquid materials. He works on challenges such as making those materials be able to withstand sunlight, or making them more robust.

The major adoption barrier of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and arguably technology in general is access to data. The conflict between the need for large datasets for learning and increased concerns regarding data privacy can only be solved with better technology and increased awareness about the opportunities and unprecedented problem solving potential that data has for our society. This is where OpenMined hits. The open-source community was founded by Oxford PhD student and Google DeepMind Researcher Andrew Trask during the blockchain boom in 2017. In the meantime, the community has grown to more than 11'000 members worldwide and has worked on advocating the use of privacy to accelerate AI's progress in solving society's biggest problems like cancer prediction and prevention, extending popular machine learning libraries like PyTorch and Tensorflow with privacy-preserving capabilities for the whole machine learning process. Through remote execution, encrypted computation and differential privacy, it allows users to privately run a machine learning model on data of one or many remote devices while preserving the privacy of that data, as well as to share model results without exposing the model or the data that it trained on. The potential for remote computation with differential privacy and homomorphic encryption to train and run machine learning models on the world's data previously hidden by lack of trust and privacy concerns is limitless. We believe that technology and its adoption is the key to human progress, as well as to make us happier and healthier, creating a sustainable economy and increasing our living standard. This core hypothesis was what led us to create Utopian Techniax (UTX) in the first place. We love technology for what it's able to do for us, if we use it the right way.

The map is meant to give a comprehensive overview of emerging technologies with various degrees of maturity, as well as their major use cases per sector. "You are what you eat" - the old saying is true not just for us as individuals, but also as society as a whole. The one tendency which pervades throughout all of human progress, is our ability to achieve increasing levels of automation. We managed to automate power generation, propulsion, mechanical tasks and information processing. Their "smartness" of smart materials derives from their capabilities to sense external conditions (such as heat or moisture), adapt their shape or other characteristics to those and thus effectively deploy a means of information processing.

Oumuamua, a cigar-shaped rock of about 110 meters in diameter, is believed to be the first human-observed interstellar object to make appearance in our solar system in 2017. Last summer, Neuralink founder Elon Musk presented the first version of Neuralink's Brain-Computer Interface, by showcasing several healthy pigs which had the Neuralink's chip implanted inside their brain. In the future, Brain-Computer Interfaces might not just treat hearing or vision problems, or diseases caused by dysfunction of the brain's motoric or nervous system like ALS or Parkinson, but also enable us to control external devices with our brain and even communicate via thoughts. After FDA approval and further safety testing, Neuralink is predicted to start with human trials in 2021, potentially paving the way towards upgrading our species' capabilities to interact with Artificial Intelligence and each other.
