🩵 Join our FREE meditation program & community: https://breathingdeeply.com/courses/meditation/What does it really mean to do nothing while still taking action? In this episode, Brandt explores one of the most powerful philosophical concepts from the yoga tradition: action vs non-action as it is presented in the Bhagavad Gita, the Dao De Jing, the Yoga Sutras, and the Spanda Karika. This teaching invites us to act from a place of presence and spaciousness, rather than striving or attachment.Non-action is not about avoiding life. It is about being fully engaged, while staying free from ego-driven striving. By surrendering the results and aligning with a deeper sense of self, our actions become liberating rather than binding.Learn how this foundational concept can support your meditation practice and guide you toward greater clarity, peace, and inner freedom.🙏🏼 This video is from our philosophy module in our Meditation Mentor Certification. In this episode, learn about the 4th kosha, the vijnanamaya in the 5 kosha system. This layer of ourselves is usually referred to as our body of wisdom. This is the layer of our consciousness that sits underneath what we think of as our conscious mind. Often this kosha is associated with our intuition because the wisdom that we receive comes from a deeper place within ourselves which is in connection to the universe. When we do practices to balance this kosha, we are doing practices to remove barriers that shield us from the truth of who we are. The primary practice for this is meditation. The Manomaya kosha is the layer of our being that represents the intellect and the conscious mind. This is the level of our conscious thoughts. The Manomaya kosha is one of the most important koshas, because of the huge effect it has on us. Because the mind is so powerful, it can affect all the other 4 koshas dramatically. We can think of the Manomaya kosha as the pivotal centerpiece in the 5 kosha model. This is why, as yoga therapists, it is important to ensure the Manomaya kosha is healthy and balanced through specific practices. In this episode, Brandt shares the role the Manomaya Kosha plays in our mental and physical health and the two ways we work with the Manomaya Kosha as yoga therapists. When we achieve balance throughout all 5 of our koshas (physical, energetic, mental, intuitive and spiritual) we are put into union with our own nature.
Very few people (even spiritual yogis) put in the effort in their daily practice to touch on regulating each of the 5 koshas.
However, without a practice that incorporates radical balance of all aspects of our being, we may miss out on the alleviation of suffering, and obtaining a wider perspective and connection to our spiritual nature.
When we find radical balance and maintain, life truly does become sweeter.
In this episode, learn how you can achieve and maintain balance throughout all of the koshas, examples of how your practice can incorporate all of the koshas, our motivations for practising and also what it means to be a ‘householder’ practitioner.

Prana is the life force that animates everything. This includes everything external to us and everything within ourselves. It is infinite and it's all about flow throughout the body. Since prana is infinite and it’s everywhere, we don’t need to generate more of it, we just need to let it flow through our energetic and physical system. Breath is one way we interact with prana outside our body and depending on how we breathe we can change the way prana moves in, out, and around our own body. There are specific pranayama exercises that one can practice to influence the way that prana moves through our system in different ways. It is through these breathing practices that we can balance energies in our system which may have become out of balance. Listen to this episode to learn about the pranic body, pranayama and three specific practices to balance and sensitize us to each of the three doshas: Vata, pitta and kapha. This episode was taken as an excerpt from our free 6-week course the Radically Balanced Yogi! Today, Brandt is talking all about the 5 pranas, also known as the Prana Vayus. Each of the 5 pranas moves in a different direction, is primarily located in different areas in or around the physical body, and is inherently linked to the breath. It’s important to have a strong connection to the 5 pranas when we work with prana or the breath.Following these energetic currents is a practice in itself that can bring us great insight into the nature of our relationship with the outer pranic world, which is the same as the inner pranic world.Brandt shares important information about what each of the 5 pranas is, how they move with the breath, what each prana governs, and what their uses are in the context of the energetic and physical body and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy.Brandt will then guide you through a quick breathing practice which will take you through all 5 pranas. This will help you start to cultivate an awareness of the pranas and increase your sensitivity to the different energetic currents moving through your system. In this episode, Brandt covers chanting and the chakras through the lens of the manomaya kosha (the mind).
This is another way to educate the mind as we do with yoga philosophy. We can chant with the chakras to bring balance to the manomaya kosha. If you look at the charka model, we could say that if our minds aren’t properly connected, disharmony and disease result.
One doesn't have to do chakra work & chanting to have a harmonious system, it is simply another way to work with disharmony and disease. This is why we work with the chakra system in yoga therapy.
During this episode, Brandt covers the purpose of chanting with the chakras, the basics of the energy body & what the chakras are, and the benefits of harmonizing the chakras. Brandt also goes over each of the 7 chakras individually, covering their function, seed sound, and how to visualize them.
This episode is a clip that has been taken directly from our Yoga Therapy Foundations Program. If you join, not only will you receive the full training to become a yoga therapist but you will also receive live access to Brandt for weekly Q&As where you can ask him any questions you may have about yoga therapy and starting a yoga therapy business!

This clip has been taken from a live Q&A session with Brandt and his yoga therapy students.
In today’s Q&A, Breathing Deepl founder and lead teacher, Brandt Passalacqua, sits down with his students to ask their burning yoga therapy questions. The floor is open for all kinds of questions! They can relate to their personal practice, the yoga therapy foundations program, their course practicum, clients, and so on.
In this Q&A Brandt covers why the Breathing Deeply Program doesn’t cover the 5 prana Vayu practices in great detail, the benefits of pranayama and when it may not be needed energetically, and how we can use yoga therapy techniques to lower our blood pressure and maybe even get off medication. Brandt shares his personal story about healing his high blood pressure as well!
Brandt also answers questions about muscle testing during client intakes to pinpoint weaknesses and how this is more challenging to teach online.
Brandt also dives into the somewhat controversial topic in yoga therapy of strengthening over stretching and why you may not need to actually do any stretching in your practice at all!
We hope you enjoy this Q&A. Let us know in the comments any key takeaways you had and share them with someone you think it may benefit!

In today’s episode, we are sharing clips from a live Q&A that Brandt facilitated with students inside the Breathing Deeply meditation program.
During this Q&A Brandt covers what it means if we aren’t having ‘experiences’ during meditation, whether the effects of meditation happen even after we’ve stopped actively meditating, how to discern our role as a ‘teacher’ with our friends and other people we know and also how we can embody forgiveness and letting go of the fear of death through pranic practices.
Brandt touches on why overcoming the fear of death is an important piece of our practice, our dharma and life path and the power of panic practices over cognitive practices. You will also learn about some of the powerful pranic practices inside our meditation program.
We’d love to know how you found this conversation! Share your thoughts with us in the comments or over on our Instagram or Facebook page (linked below)!
Brandt facilitates weekly live Q&A sessions for all members of our meditation program.

This episode has been taken from a live Q&A session with Brandt and his yoga therapy students.
Many of our students who join us come from a background of years of yoga asana practice. When they start training with us, they learn a completely new set of tools, techniques, and models to help them refine and change their personal practice.
This often leads to many of our students making big changes to the way they practice and teach their yoga classes as they go on this journey to become yoga therapists. This can have a profound impact on their life. Brandt is always there for his students to guide them through what they are encountering not only as a training yoga therapist but also in their own personal practice.
In today’s Q&A Brandt discusses using a personal practice to overcome personal struggles and using contemplation to see them through a new lens. He also covers the issue of not being able to sit in sukhasana (seated cross leg position) for extended periods of time, why this is okay, and some alternatives.
Other topics covered include creating safe sequences that help strengthen muscles and why stretching feels so good, the question of whether to work with someone who has a substance addiction and has relapsed as well as a discussion around ratio breathing and the purpose of extending exhales versus inhales in the context of yoga therapy.
We hope you enjoyed this episode! Let us know in the comments or send us a message on Instagram or Facebook any key takeaways that you have.
This episode covers: How can I move through family struggles with contemplation as a practice? What are alternatives to sukhasana (easy pose) for long periods of time? How can I structure an asana sequence to strengthen muscle groups in a safe & balanced way? How should I go about working with someone with an addiction who has relapsed? Why do we focus on the exhalation in certain postures? What is a balanced breath ratio count?

In this episode, Joe Simek, our lead teacher for our 200-hour teacher training, will guide you through the full timeline of yoga history.
There is a lot of information that one could present when talking about this topic so this is going to be a brief yet comprehensive introduction as we dig into the various time periods of yoga.
To study the history of yoga is to study the philosophy of yoga.
There are 5 major time periods that we cover in this episode: Vedic Preclassical Classical period The tantric age (post-classical) Modern yoga
For each section, Joe gives a brief introduction and the main philosophical takeaways for each of the eras in yoga history.
What we’ve come to know in the west as ‘yoga’, these exercise classes that have risen in popularity in the last 20-30 years, is a drop in the bucket of the history and knowledge of yoga.
Hopefully, this acts as an introduction and charts you on your own course of discovery.

Welcome to episode 25 of the Breathing Deeply podcast and our meditation sangha with Brandt!
The aim of this meditation sangha is to meditate in a way that allows us to experience the love that is the nature of all things. This is our spiritual heart, the place where we connect to consciousness and love itself.
Brandt firstly shares with us some words about love and the heart from the yoga tradition and how we can use meditation as a process to access our spiritual heart and come to a natural state of bliss and connection to all that is.
Striving to reach this place of pure consciousness and bliss is a powerful way to help us keep our momentum up when it comes to our meditation practice!
Brandt then guides us through a 40 minute meditation (starts at 8:35 mins) where we will be meditating on Om while visualizing a clear blue sky. Many traditions use this meditation technique and the reason for that is it creates space in the mind and it trains us to see the blue sky and helps us to push everything else to the side. The Oms help us to vibrate our consciousness into something more peaceful and clean.
This talk and meditation were taken directly from our virtual retreat as part of our online meditation program.

In today’s episode, Breathing Deeply Meditation Program Coordinator, Sara Bowman sits down with Brandt for an interview about meditation and how meditation can help us understand our life path and ourselves better and make decisions that are in line with who we really are.
“One of the great gifts of meditating is being more sensitive to ourselves and more intuitive in terms of knowing what's important to us and being open and clear enough to follow that advice from ourselves.”
Brandt covers questions around how long we should meditate for to start seeing effects, why it's not a one-fits-all approach as well as how meditation can increase our intuitive abilities when it comes to listening to our own guidance and how this can support us in making big life decisions and creating better habits.

In today’s episode, Joe Simek, Breathing Deeply assistant teacher, sits down with Breathing Deeply founder Brandt Passalacqua to talk about yoga therapy and mental health.
With mental health, it is not a one size fits all approach. At Breathing Deeply, we teach our students how to create individualized practices that empower their clients to take their health into their own hands!
Listen in as Brandt shares with us how yoga therapy’s approach to mental health is different yet complementary to mainstream western medicine. Find out what the process is for assessing someone’s mental health as a yoga therapist and developing specific yoga practices that work the best for an individual to help them reach their mental health goals.
Each person lands at their mental state depending on their own personal journey and their specific imbalances, meaning with yoga therapy two people who are both suffering from anxiety may be given completely different practices.
Brandt discusses the multiple assessment models taught at Breathing Deeply which are used to come up with an individualized practice that unfolds in relationship with each client. He then walks us through his process for assessing & curating a practice for a client with anxiety.
Breathing Deeply’s goal is to bring balance back to the entire system of all of our clients to lessen their suffering.

Welcome to episode 13 of the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy & Meditation podcast!
This episode has been taken from a live Q&A session with Brandt and students inside the Breathing Deeply Meditation Program.
In this episode, Brandt covers two students’ questions which address the topics of why we dream about the past more after we start meditating and whether following our desires is beneficial for our evolution.
Sometimes when we have an active dream time we can wake up feeling like we haven’t really slept. In our dreams, we may also have recurring themes of things that happened in our past that keep coming up which we have already moved on from. Brandt explains why this happens within our conscious and unconscious minds.
When it comes to desires, there are many different yogic paths that have rules about what you can and can’t do with your desires. Brandt explains why this is unrealistic as our root desires, such as connection, will continue to manifest in many different ways. Brandt shares how we can follow our desires in a conscious way that is beneficial to all.

In this conversation with yoga therapist Joe Simek and Breathing Deeply founder Brandt Passalacqua, Brandt discusses trauma and yoga therapy.
There are a lot of schools of thought about how to approach trauma through yoga and the more common one is a more passive, slower approach, allowing the practitioner to explore movement and breath while giving lots of natural cueing.
Although this technique can be really effective, there are other ways to approach trauma. Brandt shares with us what those other approaches are so we can go beyond what we most commonly know as ‘trauma-informed yoga’.
We’d love to know your thoughts on using yoga as a means to recover from trauma. Share your experiences as a teacher with us in the comments or over on our Instagram or Facebook page (linked below)!

Welcome to episode 8 of the Breathing Deeply Yoga Therapy & Meditation podcast!
In this episode, Breathing Deeply founder Brandt Passalacqua discusses the importance of cultivating softness and openness as part of our meditation practice.
Softening and opening allow us to move through our emotional states, even very tough ones, quickly and more effortlessly. With practice, we being to be able to soften into all of it more easily. Every moment, every breath, and every thought is an opportunity for up to be more open, to soften, and to surrender.
Brandt also discusses why we may feel resistance to this practice of opening and softening to all of our experiences and emotional states which is resistance to change. By softening and opening to all emotional states, we are doing something different which will change us, perhaps it will radically change us! This is of course the very reason we practice, we don’t meditate to stay the same, but as humans, we inherently want to control the way that change looks.
This episode will inspire you to invite more openness and surrender into whatever you are experiencing in life as part of your practice to help you move through whatever life throws your way.
Topics Covered: The act of softening Our root desire Attachment Resistance to uncomfortable thoughts and feelings Dealing with difficult emotional states by softening Resistance to change

In this episode, Breathing Deeply Founder & Lead Teacher, Brandt Passalacqua shares a lecture on reality re-examined as part of the Breathing Deeply Online Meditation Retreat.
The reality that we can perceive with our senses is incomplete, there is more to this reality and through philosophical study and meditation, we can expand our awareness to encompass more aspects of reality.
Brandt boils down our perception of reality by examining reality through the lens of non-dual yogic traditions and why we feel there is a void to be filled when we can’t perceive the totality of our reality.
This episode covers the view of reality according to dual and non-dual traditions, the goal of reaching expanded states of awareness, how experiencing reality more fully can help us feel free, and why it is useful to understand these philosophical concepts.
We hope that you enjoy it!

Although valuable on their own, combining the concepts of "Discipline and Surrender" can be important for the evolution of our meditation practice. In this episode, meditation teacher Brandt Passalacqua references the Yoga Sutra and the Yoga Spandakarika texts as he explains how discipline, or "the willingness to maintain the perspective we have found through practice," can lead to a deep surrender, where we can know ourselves at our very cores. He also leads a Bija Mantra Meditation to support this journey.

In this episode, Brandt references multiple texts (such as the Yoga Sutra and the Tao Te Ching) that offer, in their own unique ways, the concept that "Nothing Is Lacking." When we meditate with this in mind, overtime we begin to see we already have all the many things for which we are searching. Brandt invites us to explore this as he leads us in a Spine Breath meditation.

This first episode, entitled Finding Peace In Turbulent Times, takes a look at the idea that many of us come to meditation looking for instant relaxation and peace, but the true long term benefit of tranquility that comes from meditation may be our ability to "hold" difficult events in proper perspective. It also features a mantra practice.
