Caiman Radio
Caiman Radio chronicles stories and perspectives from Hostos Community College, an educational agent of change in the heart of South Bronx since 1968.
Hostos’ men’s and women’s basketball teams pour all they have into their sport, and it shows.
Both teams recently captured CUNYAC titles, marking the third time both Hostos teams won the championship in the same season. Ahead of their big wins, student and host of Student Life at Hostos Brittany Lanzano sat down with the women’s team’s point center forward Apilyn Bonny and point guard Sharay Hannah, along with their head coach DeVernie Winston and men’s head coach Marquee Poole. Together they discussed what it is like to play basketball at Hostos and what drives them to create magic on the court. They also reflect on the challenges of balancing practice, school and life, as well as on the importance of school spirit. Tune in.
Hostos Professors Moise Koffi and Yoel Rodríguez share their inspiring journey to teach and encourage STEM education. They talk about the challenges many of the students they meet face when they start in school and later overcome.
Their calling is to help students believe in themselves. In the words of Professor Yoel Rodríguez, “At Hostos, we prepare our students for the future.”
Hostos has served over 4,000 STEM/STEAM students through mentorship, financial support, research studies and presentations, competition, games, films, and more. For 23 years, Hostos community college in the South Bronx has been at it, educating, transforming lives, and filling much-needed vacant roles in the STEM field.

Hostos Emeritus Professor Orlando J. Hernández joins us to discuss the life and times of the great 19th Century humanist, educator, journalist, abolitionist, and thinker whose work has influenced the Caribbean and Latin American region to this day, but whose contributions have been mostly forgotten.
Professor Hernández is one of the world's only scholars to take on the task of translating the work of Don Eugenio into the English language.
