Women Who Lead - Episode 4: Vulnerability in the Workplace
Episode 4 of Women Who Lead: Post-Covid welcomes a returning guest to the podcast, Dr Martine Zimmermann.
Martine Zimmermann is Senior Vice President and Head of Regulatory & Quality Affairs at Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease. Dr Zimmermann has over 25 years of combined R&D and global regulatory strategy experience. She joined Alexion Pharmaceuticals (part of AstraZeneca since 2021) in 2009 and has since then been dedicated to the registration of several orphan medicinal products across the globe, as well as to the shaping of the regulatory environment for medicines under development for rare diseases. Prior to Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Dr Zimmermann held numerous R&D and regulatory roles in companies such as Aventis (now Sanofi), Servier and H. Lundbeck A/S. Dr Zimmermann also serves currently as a Director in the Board of Inventiva Pharma, and previously in the Board of Caelum Biosciences (now part of AstraZeneca). Dr. Zimmermann has also held several external roles and is currently a member of the Board of the European Confederation of Pharmaceutical Entrepreneurs (EUCOPE).
Martine has been a champion of diversity, equality, inclusion ,and belonging, having been recognized by the Healthcare Businesswoman’s Association as a Luminary in 2020, and efforts by serving as an executive sponsor for Alexion’s flagship Women In Leadership (WIL) employee resource group. Martine is also internally and externally engaged in important initiatives, being Alexion’s Sustainability Leadership sponsor. She received her PharmD from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France, and is based in Dublin, Ireland.
This episode looks at vulnerability in the workplace and addresses the inner voice. How can we progress in our careers and fulfill the expectations we have of ourselves? We focus on progression in this episode and approach how we can successfully progress and achieve our goals.

Dr. Asha Parekh is co-founder and CEO for Front Line Medical Technologies Inc. Asha completed her PhD in biomedical engineering at Western University in London, Canada and after completing two post-doctoral fellowships, she took the leap into entrepreneurship when co-founding Front Line. Asha is most passionate about medical device innovation and helping to make a global impact. She is also active in Women in Engineering, STEM, and entrepreneurial communities and engages with various groups to discuss her views and experiences in these spaces.
This episode looks as the future generation in STEM, what organizations should be and could be doing to drive excellence across the industry. We explore the psychology behind career choices and how they can still be guided by gender stereotypes.
