Welcoming back founder Caleb Speer to the podcast, he brings a bit of perspective for the weekend visit during our Youth for God meeting. The theme of the visit is Purpose. When looking at the trends of our culture, people are searching for community and meaning.

Looking at the book of Ephesians, the message from Paul explores the transition you take as a Christian of change toward a member of God’s family. God’s love is open to all who themselves love. The path toward joining the family of God is found on the pages of the Bible.

Within is guidance of a change in life, considerations of internal mindset and considerations for your heart. This change of heart leads to a change in behavior in line with who Jesus is. Discipline, orderliness, and order are inherent in your new walk as a Christian.

In today’s episode we have a special guest to discuss Christian apologetics. Josh Weaver is currently working on a degree at Texas Tech University, and is interested in discussing examples and reasonings for the Christian faith.

Those who have done some studying on the various arguments of Christian apologetics will know these subjects are highly publicized and debated. The modern atheist movement in the late 20th century gave rise to televised debates, lectures, book series, and polarizing discussions regarding the existence of God.

We invite you to engage in the comments, as well as write in with questions on the existence of God.

We welcome special guests Wes and Mindy Peters to discuss the benefits of VBS on your congregation’s ministry. The emphasis and work focused on a summer series of lessons for the kids is an effective tool for teaching the stories of the Bible. This emphasis provides an opportunity for a focused exposure to the stories of the Bible.

Visuals being employed to emphasize stories helps solidify these stories into memory. Though it takes a lot of work to pull off, the benefit to the kids is worth it.

Need help with VBS planning, or advice on how to make your VBS have a greater impact with your congregation? Let us know in the comments or email to be connected to Mindy and Wes.

Is this the truth in our practice as Christians? Obviously, the pursuit of being a Christian is true change in our lives. We are working toward being sanctified. It can be similar to imposter syndrome. Since the standard we are striving for is perfection. In that pursuit of perfection, we can never measure up in our actions.

Through Christ who strengthens us, we are all hypocrites to some degree. Yet, at the same time, Jesus’s strongest rebukes were toward hypocrites. Especially those who embrace an arrogant haughty attitude. Let us strive to avoid those judgements, and leave judgement to our perfect measure, Jesus.

Discipline is important when pursuing your athletic best. The World Cup represents the contest where the entire world competes for a single trophy. The whole world, save one country, will be disappointed at the end of the competition.

Our salvation in Jesus makes it clear that we are already lost, but we are plucked out of that state through him. The community based on salvation receiving grace, rising from our combined loss.

Ever read the book of Zephaniah? It’s only three chapters and provides great insight into who God is. God’s promise of destruction is counteracted with his promise of hope and salvation. Why would God destroy everything? Doesn’t that make God evil?

As one who has the power to make everything right again, God will bring justice to the world. That means that everyone who has done a bad thing is subject to that judgement.

The promise of Jesus is a redemption from those mistakes of the past. Mercy for those who ask for it, and follow in his ways. The hope that is in the Christian extends past this life to life everlasting.

Jesus’s description of integrity among all followers of His is evident in all our walks of life. Every job will question and test your integrity. Take no more than required. Have balanced scales and honest dealings. These are central to the Bible’s message.

Our politicians are no different. Are our leaders people of integrity? Are we only voting for policies and not people. Something to think about.

Ecclesiastes is a book of joy. The tone may not be entirely happy, but the wisdom from the book identifies things in this life that are designed to bring joy.

Are you seeking joy? Love? Fulfillment? Nostalgia? Wealth? What brings you joy may not ultimately be fulfilled. Is this joy vain? Seek the things above, where treasures can be stored that cannot be stolen.

The overwhelming sensation we feel to be like others causes us to do things we don’t want to do. When that becomes our identity, crisis inevitably follows.

A lesson can be taken from King Saul of Israel. His decision to disobey God’s command lost him the kingdom. His excuse was he feared the people. His sin was not justified, and the consequence of his sin plagued him the rest of his life.

Saul of Tarsus, whom we know as the apostle Paul, was also subject to peer pressure. However, being unmoved by its influence, continued to strive for the gospel of liberty of Jesus Christ. Galatians 2 explains that there was strong influence to enforce the law on converted Christians. This was such a strong influence, Peter and Barbabus was swept away with it.

Peer pressure is something we all feel, for good or ill. However, our stand for the gospel of Christ need be bolstered by the one who restores all to Himself in love.

Shout out to pilot Victor Glover who spoke the good confession of our need for Jesus. Before their trip around the moon, his message of the Christ who spoke love for God, and love for one another. Let us do to others as we would have them do to us.

Space flight fills the imagination with wonder and amazing perspectives. From space, the Earth is the bastion of life in a void of darkness and death. The good Earth is our gift from the creator God for our journey through life.

Morality without Jesus is a primary topic of discussion among those thinking about Christ. Good things that people do make the world a better place. But is doing enough good enough to get you into heaven? We can look at this question by dividing it into Biblical concepts.

Who is good? What is good? Is there something you can do on your own merit to purchase your eternal life? Can you buy it? The Bible is clear heaven cannot be earned. It is a gift of grace from God through Jesus Christ.

Heaven in the Bible is presented as an eternal relationship with Jesus. Eternal life is knowing God and Jesus Christ. Why would you want to be with Jesus if you don’t believe in Him? Why would you want a reward from someone you don’t believe in?

Are you thinking about your existence after this life as a transaction? Are you storing treasures in heaven by building your relationship with Jesus?

Minister at the University Church of Christ in Tampa, Florida, Josh is a guest for our weekend Young Adult weekend at Milwaukee Ave church. The power of the gospel and its ability to change your life for the better is inspirational. Being a Christian isn’t about having all the answers. It means you can’t continue or make it without help from God. Life with God is better than life without God.

The family of God being a reflection of unity despite untold differences. If you are seeking something better than what you have, look toward changing your life to be like Jesus. Are you willing to entertain the thought there is someone who knows you so well, your deepest darkest secrets, yet still wants to be in a loving relationship with you. Jesus says, “I will not forsake you.” He is not far from you now. The choice for a better life is yours.

There are those who receive persecution, trials and hardships for their beliefs. Some even are subject to pain, physical attacks, imprisonment and death. Perhaps you were subject to a culture of preparation for these inevitable events. Were they destructive to your psyche in your upbringing? Do you associate faith with that trauma?

Though the Bible does not sugar coat we will be persecuted for our beliefs, the instruction is to be prepared for when they do happen in your life. The healing that is inherited in following Christ is understanding the power that supports you above those things.

We pray that peace and love be plentiful in all of God’s family around the world.

Leviticus 23 is a chapter that illustrates all the Holy Days of the Jews. These days had cultural and religious significance to those people. Jesus fulfilled these festivals by honoring them and fulfilling them with righteous purpose.

Jesus’s activity on the Holy Days during the narrative of the New Testament is of note. The miracles and teachings carried out around these festivals brought about great significance to His work. Should we observe the holy festival days today?

The moral argument is a core apologetic to both Christians and Atheists. While the world was at war, C.S. Lewis brought to a radio presentation a presentation of Christianity without the use of direct scripture reference. A fascinating story on how an argument can be created using secular means is presented in Mere Christianity.

Considering morality, Lewis presents an argument that morality has three parts. Within yourself, yourself toward others, and collectively as a society and direction represent the three parts.

If you think you aren’t hurting anyone else with your choices, are you hurting yourself internally? The teaching of the New Testament champions personal improvement and change from your old self. Going so far as to calling our old self evil, calling us to sanctification through internal change. Put aside the old man and renew your mind.

This internal change is what triggers your interaction toward others. Finding like minded people who are also working out their salvation is the purpose of the church, through edification and community.

It’s been an outstanding year with great guests and excellent perspectives on what it means to go the extra mile for others.

Matthew 5:41 describes instruction from Jesus about this principle. If any would force you to go with them a mile, go with them two. Not begrudgingly, but with the mindset that you were placed in that situation to make a change. It takes perspective of heavenly thinking to take that first step.

The Bible does not promise we won’t suffer in this world. In fact, it guarantees we will suffer for our faith. Rejoice in the Lord through our sufferings, because this world has already been overcome by Jesus. That perspective and faith causes action toward others, to help them out of darkness, to break down barriers, to cause others to pause and question what’s going on.

Salvation is open to all, for those who have ears to hear and eyes to see. Behold, Jesus stands at the door and knocks. Will you open the door of your heart to Him?

Audio Note: One of our microphones has a slight echo in this episode. Thanks for bearing with us—despite the technical hiccup, the conversation is strong and we believe it’s worth sharing.

Christian and Biblically inspired media is on the rise, offering new ways to share faith and spark spiritual conversations. But is it actually helping people grow, or becoming a substitute for real Bible study and discipleship? In this episode, we explore the strengths and shortcomings of this trend and what role Christian media should—and shouldn’t—play in evangelism today.

Does Christian media serve as a replacement for searching the scriptures for you? Does the media you consume inspire you to pursue a perishable wreath, or the everlasting crown of life?

Give us your answers in the comments below.

There’s a difference between consequence and karma. What does the Bible say about karma, and did Jesus believe in this concept?

Looking at Job there is a concept that is explored about judgement, consequence, karma, and punishment in our experience. There is correction that God offers to the friends of Job and their opinion of how God operates. There is little cut and dry understanding to God’s judgement. It is the tendency of man to reduce God to our level.

Works based salvation is something that can corrupt our understanding of our own role in our experience after this life. The. Christian understand that we need God. We can’t self help our way to the next life. We can self help our way to be a better person! Eternal consequences rely on what Jesus did for us.

Do you ever have times where you forget to be thankful for what you have? That mindset that is fleeting is the grumbling that leads to destruction. The New Testament guides the Christian to attribute all blessings to God, and carry that thankful heart throughout your days.

Is there something that is hindering your thankfulness? Perspective can be panted with the troubles of this chaotic world. If you are in a season of thankfulness, reach out to those to lift others up in their season of trouble. If you are in a season of trial, have the openness to receive help from others.

An encouraging passage is when Saul of Tarsus, the great persecutor of the early church, was praying continually to God. Guilty of doing wrong to Jesus, Saul is not in a good state with his salvation. Ananias is told that God is listening to the continuous prayer of Saul.

What does that mean for those who are searching and trying to understand Jesus and God? If you are inspired to speak to God, that channel is always open. This should be encouraging to anyone everywhere, that their prayers will be heard.

To seek God earnestly, means He will move to open that door you are knocking on. The Bible says Jesus is standing at the door and knocks for you to open it to Him. Will you open that door to Him?

God answers our “what if” questions with a reminder of humility. Who are you to tell the powerful creator what He is to do? The divine response to these questions is to worry about yourself. Are you in a saved state with the creator? Who is the clay to say to the potter why did you make me this way?

Why would we work to disprove God’s power and authority? We don’t like the things He’s created? Maybe life is unfair and we want to blame Him rather than those who harm us? What about salvation? Shouldn’t I be the exception to the rule?

How does this question help us discover the limits of what is real? What have you said is impossible? Is there something in your life that is beyond you, that you are powerless to complete?

How can Jesus help you to make that thing that’s impossible in your life come to fruition. To be clear, there are things that Jesus will help you conquer when it comes to sin, temptation, or seeking after the good spiritual things above. The pages of the Bible tell a story about renewal that comes from life changes that can be yours if you want them.

This question wracks many with doubt. It is one that has been attempted to be answered for millennia. The long answer attempts to dissect this complex question into smaller and more congruent pieces.

Is God good? Many life philosophies attempt to prove God isn’t good, or simply isn’t there at all. The Bible has a vast amount of writing on this subject. There is a God, and He is good.

Does God allow bad things on this Earth? Yes. He does not snap these things out of existence. That also does not make Him bad.

Pain and suffering are presented as tools, first as consequence of mankind, and then as causes intended to inspire you to draw closer to goodness, and therefore God.

Evil is another concept altogether. The Bible speaks of God destroying evil once during the flood. Then, God sent His Son to atone for the sins of man. Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross and subsequent resurrection is the victory over evil. No power can hold God.

Context is important when you consider eternity. A light momentary affliction is nothing compared to what is to come.

We are pleased to welcome author and researcher Christopher Baidoo-Essien discussing his book Examining the Great Commission. Writing about scripture takes time, thought, perspective, and patience. One of the unique things about the Bible is the text can be understood deeper the longer you live with it.

Maturing in faith has its roots based in thinking. The Bible instructs to meditate on it day and night. The more we can think, the more connects that can be drawn to bring the scriptures to light.

This is how we can make disciples of all the nations, having a relationship with Jesus.

The Ancient Faith - Caleb Speer

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. (Ephesians 4:1–6, ESV)

We are called to be unified as one. We must also be one with God. We are to reflect his image from ourselves and choices. This oneness is what unites us in Christ and God.

We are called to be unified in Christ. We must strive for it. We are one because Christ died on the cross, not because we agree on something. Unity does not equal uniformity. Though diversity is essential, this is by design with God. Though at first it may seem to be divisive, the Ephesian and Roman letters were written to illustrate this.

What was designed by God is this Ancient faith. It provides us a family for us to strive together. Because it isn’t new, we must go back to the foundations of the church that Christ established.

What is the result? We invite you to the community striving for unity while the world is out to divide us. Fighting for unity makes us holy and bears the fruit of the Spirit. We have to consider giving up some of our personal wants in order to unify. Christ is what unifies us regardless of race, culture, tradition, locale, or nationality.

Unity Through the Generations - Noah Diestelkamp

Noah Is a minister at Cedar Park Church of Christ in Cedar Park, TX. He is a co-host of the STANDSTRONG with Paul White is a podcast for the members at Cedar Park Church of Christ in Cedar Park, TX. He is visiting Lubbock as guest lecturer for our Iron Sharpens Iron men’s conference.

Who is responsible for extending an arm and reaching across the generational divide? If you don’t care for people older or younger than you are, take a note from scripture.

Paul presents an image of relationships in the church, and that it is designed by God as complex and difference. We are all given a skill or passion to the group that others cannot. You matter! And it’s designed by God to be this way. You might not be like someone else, and that’s the point.

If you have not come to the conclusion that you need to associate with God’s people, consider again. There’s a need for you to be around those to build others up. Others need you to lift them up. Step out of your comfort zone and start working to build positive relationships with God’s people.

Making One Another Better - Tim Jennings

What is written of Barnabas in the Bible is positive. The written example of how God intended us to live. The way to accomplish the work of the Kingdom is to work as a team.

It’s not all about you! It’s about the Lord, and the Lord instructed us to help one another. Claim to be a Christian and out for number one? We would encourage you to read the New Testament, and notice the difference in the examples shown there.

Our focus should be to make others around us better. There is a specific way to do that, and if the motivations are wrong can be disastrous. Your motivations should be from love.

Jesus Isn’t God Is the central claim for many today that are proposing that Jesus was not God, nor that he made such a claim. These views are held by atheists, as well as many church goers. Specifically, if you find the Bible to be a collection of stories, and do not believe in God, there first must be room for consideration and doubt. If your mind is made up, then who is to say anything to you.

Ultimately, the Bible is for those who doubt. Who search for something better than themselves. The story held in the pages is tragic, wonderful, provoking, and incredible. Its central claim is that of peace and hope between God and His creation.

Jesus repeatedly proves that he is God by his behavior, teaching, influence, and actions. He was able to fulfill prophesies, extended through centuries, over dozens of authors and cultures, and reveal what it means to treat another as your equal.

His disciples believed He was God. They worshipped Him. Learned from Him how to be the best version of themselves, and ultimately died for their beliefs. The creator of all things loves you, and wants you to come to Him freely. Hope of everlasting life is found only through Him and the example He set.

Should mankind be in charge of morality? Is it wrong to rule by the collective strong? Easily we can conclude this isn’t always righteous, especially judging by the fact mankind has engaged in conflicts, wars, genocide, land grabs, cheating, lying, stealing, and the suchlike since they ever thought to right down some form of historical record.

Is there something bigger and better than ourselves to use as a measuring stick? Some greater power with which to aspire and regard? Obviously, this podcast will advocate for the living God, who is capable of powerful and terrible things. As mankind was made in His image, we too are capable of wonderful and terrible things.

Self-control seems to be the aspirational maturity for morality. If mankind is able to have self-control in harnessing our instincts, the world would be a better place. Mercy, kindness, and love abounding makes a society aspirational, but sadly, unobtainable. This is after all a beautiful terrible world.

The promise for relief is found on the pages of the Bible. There is a hope promised to those who desire it. A free gift of salvation for a renewal of times to come. Where all horrible things are removed, and the future isn’t bleak.

The Bible is a collection of 66 books and letter, spanning over 1500 years of authorship representing 20 different professions, thousands of miles from one another, and with one powerful alignment.

Such a feat being simply a secular work is impossible. We can’t even get Star Wars to be written consistently from authors who love the subject matter.

A supernatural authorship is a convincing reason for the authenticity of the Bible. Specifically, that there is one author of the Bible, God himself. The claim in the Bible is that it is the inspired word of God. That is such an amazing gift for a book that claims to have been written by the creator of all things.

The creator of all things wants you to change your life and start your walk with Him. We encourage you to read the Bible, choose a version that is easy to read and provides access to the path of salvation inside. The gift of eternal life is offered freely for all who would take it.

How do you talk to people about God? Those conversations in my experience typically end up not productive. Maybe that means we’re doing it wrong. Perhaps we’re all talk and no show. What is God’s form of evangelism that is presented in the Bible?

We are called to be sincere seekers of God. Not just with lip service. The instruction of Christ is to be changed into a new person. With that change comes a renewing of your mind. Ultimately, the end goal is to become the best person you can be. You cannot achieve it alone, you have to have the example of Jesus to follow.

What do we learn of Jesus’s interactions in the form of His evangelism? He not only taught wisdom and instructed after righteousness, but He was the prime example of how to live and be one with God.

Grumble in your work? Unhappy with a change at home? Lost your job? Your dream job making you upset at life? To be changed into a person of content is where happiness and perseverance reside.

The Moral Law

The Law of Nature can be a consideration for rules and behaviors of humankind. Being animals, we take our place in the world, but are different than the creatures with which we share our planet. There is something greater which humans seem to have that separates us from the behavior of animal kind.

We all ascribe to some degree of consciousness, one that embraces goodness and rejects badness. Though simply choosing to be a good person comes with some degree of difficulty when stressed or overwhelmed. What prevents people from stealing? What about murdering and taking someone else’s things? Doesn’t Darwin describe the natural progression of power through consolidation and adaptation?

In considering that there is a set of rules with which we are subject, though perhaps not always follow, that governs our behavior and thinking into our collective morality. Our suggestion is that the creator of this code is not mankind itself, who quickly abandons all rules to elevate the self. The giver of morality is God, the creator of all things.

Considering C.S. Lewis

What does the Bible have to say about that? What if you want to consider the opinions on those who have gone before us in the Way? Alongside prayer, reading and considering the reasoning of other Christian thinkers can enrich your personal walk with God.

Though we would only officially recommend the Bible for your urtext, it alone contains the pathway to salvation, many would recommend the writings of C.S. Lewis to have an accessible presentation of the Christian walk.

Only if additional texts bring you closer to God should a text be considered. Any novel ideas must be checked against the revelation of scripture given us. Good studying!

Ask ChatGPT what are the 10 things humanity should know? What does it tell you? Is it spiritually focused? Did you learn something? Did the response shock you? Did you disagree with the response?

Taking the same question to the Bible and what God would say is another interesting query. What can you glean from the internet versus the verses of scripture?

In a world full of assumptions about Jesus, how do we move beyond information and into genuine relationship? In this episode, we explore what it means to really know Jesus—not just know about Him.

Many claim Jesus but don’t truly know Him (Matt. 7:22–23). Jesus invites us into relationship, not religion (John 15:15; Philippians 3:10). Knowledge without intimacy can still lead to rejection (Luke 6:46). Read His story, talk to Him, obey Him, worship Him, and walk with His people.

Challenge:
Spend one week reading a chapter a day from John. Each time, ask: What does this teach me about Jesus

I John speaks of a sin that leads to death, and another sin that does not lead to death. Isn’t all sin bad? Of course! The illustration is confirmed throughout all scripture.

If you deny Christ is the son of God, this is blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, against the confession of God, who anointed Jesus with his blessing, “This is my son. Listen to Him.” These things are written so that you would believe in Jesus. Who became our atoning sacrifice, our advocate to the father. Without Jesus, we are all lost.

With reverence and respect, God isn’t our daddy here on earth. However, God is a father figure.

God is an authority on guiding us and our thoughts. He cares about fairness, mercy, justice, and your personal welfare.

Our Fathers teach us things. God guides us through our life, allowing us to stumble, and provides instruction.

God is the provider of all things. He provides for us in our lives. Have you ever thought that something you really needed came at the right moment? He has compassion on His children. He knows how we are made.

There are blessings that come to those who follow Jesus. Only by coming to Jesus is how we make it to God. Unless you believe that Jesus is the son, and the son and the father are one, we are free to die in our own way.

All are welcome in the body of Christ. Jesus is the head of the church, the great example and authority of how we grow and produce fruit in showing love to others. This service toward God and one another is an open invitation no matter your culture, background, or situation.

If you are not a member of Jesus’s church, you are lost. If you have been confounded and corrupted with deceit, shrouded in darkness, there is a pathway of light and renewal in Christ. Those who are adopted into His grace are actually those who have accepted the invitation.

If you have joined the church of Jesus, and yet have not been filled with the desire to change your evil ways, consider the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. The instruction is to have your heart changed, willing to transform into a servant and follower of Jesus.

Where is God When I Hurt? - Wilson and Julie Adams

Grief will affect all of us. We will all experience loss. Whether it be death, identity, divorce, or trauma, we are all touched by this destructive force.

Emptiness plagues us when trauma strips us of our innocence. What can heal those wounds? Sports? Drugs? Hobbies? Therapy? What you pour yourself into inevitably is a distraction. No healing is complete without something that will truly last.

Jesus makes us whole through the reality that there is a redemption of our grief when the end times comes. There is a hope that is promised to us of relief, and a change for us eternally. Consider the healing that is promised you with a life devoted to Jesus.

We are able to see Jesus deal with loss, grief, pain, sorrow, and hope through love. His great example shows us the better way to be whole again.

Jesus has power over this world. He was able to do things that only God can do. Things are written down for us to believe. However, His true gift to us is the power for us to grow beyond what we are able. With his help, we are able to move to better ourselves as we grow in righteousness.

Devoting your life to Jesus is required for salvation. He has said, “unless you believe that I AM He, you will die in your sins.” The entire reason He came to this earth and died for us, it was to bring peace between our selfish choices, which corrupt us, and God. Taking up your cross and following him, is to change your behavior and behave more selflessly, sharing, caring for everyone else, and renewing your mind in the ways of Godliness.

Making a choice to serve others and the Lord. Your children are watching everything you do. Make the best choice you can to spread love. If you haven’t chosen to follow Jesus, we encourage you to consider opening your heart to God.

We all must die. What we do in this life matters. The choices you make matter. The things you think about matter. The things you hide from everyone else cannot be hidden forever.

We must all face the end of our life here. What comes after? The Bible reveals a resurrection of the followers of Jesus in a new body. The judgement has been appointed to make everything right again. Jesus stands as an intercessor for those who have heard His voice.

There is hope for the followers of Jesus.

Is there any harm with a white lie? What about not wanting to hurt someone’s feelings? How do we handle situations which seem morally ambiguous when it comes to truth telling.

The Bible is very clear about telling lies. God hates it. Lying goes against God’s nature, something He simply does not do. The father of all lies is the devil, the deceiver. Yet we have all told a lie, to save our skins, or to delay an outcome due to fear.

Why can’t we tell lies to not hurt people’s feelings? What if we boldly spoke to truth with no regard to kindness and gentleness. That seems to be the choice of some — you get the truth whether you want it or not! However, that doesn’t edify. Everything we do must be for building each other up. Speaking the truth is important, as the tongue emits evils which stem from our heart. We are called to be changed to righteousness, to put away false and perverse things.

It is true that there were characters of the Old Testament who lied to evil authorities and were praised for their faith toward God and His people. Perhaps God’s grace will abound if you face those moments in your life. Jesus can read our hearts, and stands as an advocate for those who follow after Him.

Putting on Christ is a call that all people are able to hear all around the world. Understanding and accepting those who have traveled the world and experienced different cultures broadens our perspective and love for all of God’s people.

Leroy is our brother in Christ who is with us during his studies in Lubbock. His perspective of experiencing life in Zimbabwe and South Korea helped to strengthen his resolve as a follower of Christ. When our society shifts to becoming less Godly, the influence of the world can corrupt our hearts. It helps to remind ourselves that there is a source of truth when influenced by the chaos of the world.

The Bible being the source of truth and faith grounds you when the influences of the world attempt to corrupt you. Don’t think you need God? Have everything you need? The only way to make the world a better place is to be changed by the love of Jesus.

Jesus does not change the outside. Christ changes the inside; he changes the hearts of men. He makes you a new creation.

There is No Hate like Christian Love

This quote is gaining traction in social media. Why does the world seem to hate Christians? Is it because the world hates the goodly things of God? Is it because some who claim to be of Christ are actually hypocrites? Are you one who thinks on Christians with disdain?

What of Christ’s teaching is offensive? Is it the discipline to control yourself? Is it kindness? Is it compassion? Do you call yourself a Christian, but don’t follow the compassionate teaching of Jesus?

Observe the rebuke of Jesus on the Pharisees in Matthew 23. Are you like these who lord your salvation over others? Do you hold your head up high as one who is better than those around you because you are saved? Do you love yourself more than your fellow man? If you are one of these, and call yourself a Christian, we hope your study of the New Testament inspires you to open your heart to the love of Jesus, and working toward a maturing of your faith. Surely, you are like the Pharisees.

Wisdom and Life

Options exist in choices from food, to clothing, to choosing entertainment. How we make those decisions encompasses our entire lives. Some decisions we make mark turning points where we can’t go backward.

This progression of life is common to us all. When facing these decisions, armed with the wisdom to act, you would be well equipped to make the right choice.

The Bible addresses wisdom in Proverbs 4 and Matthew 12 concerning from where your thoughts and actions generate. Your heart being the source and motivations for your thoughts and behaviors. Rather than taking in evil influences that harm, bring in those good things to build up others and live a great life.

Following after the better way Jesus teaches, showing love and compassion to others, sharing, and treating others as you would your own self, is building your house on the solid rock. To not do this is detrimental to your very life you build. A choice must be made. Will you choose good or ill?

Loving God’s Word - Ben Walker

A major effort that may be lacking in your family life is worshipping as a family unit. I know I can stomach to be a better leader in my family by guiding a study of the Bible more.

Ben Walker specifically joins us today to discuss our generation’s need to regain this leadership in our daily lives. Daily reading, singing, prayer, and recitation in your home to help your family grow closer to God. Worshipping together with your loved ones.

This has duplicitous effects on your home life. First, training of your children in essential skills of study by modeling behavior and attentiveness in your home. Secondly, the growth and development of spiritual matters in your home unit, as life’s topics can be discussed and considered as daily habit. Thirdly, bringing up your children with the love of one another and of God’s word.

This endeavor is worth consideration and development in your home schedules. What else could possibly be more important?

Ben Walker is preacher at Taylor’s Church of Christ outside Greenville, SC. He joins us for a in-studio discussion as part of his activities for the Young Adult Weekend: Career and Family.

How can churches and families at home utilize what God gave us to the maximum potential in educating ourselves?

Discussions About the Bible - Tactics

Many of us freeze when we are questioned about our faith. The apostle Paul told us to be ready to make a defense of our faith. This takes training and preparation to be comfortable discussing, defending, and appealing to others about your faith.

The book Tactics by Gregory Koukl is the topic of discussion.

Prison Minister - Sam Brown

It is our pleasure to have Sam Brown in the podcast. He is a former inmate who has devoted his life to God.

There is hope for those who have nothing to live for. If the world has taken everything from you, place your hope in Jesus. Love in God and the way of life.

Sam has dedicated his life to ministering to those still incarcerated in the prison system of Texas. As a former inmate, he is best placed to relate to those still in prison. At this time the effort is small, but any help you might be able to contribute to the effort will go to increase the scope of effort.

Donations to support prison ministry in Texas can be sent to

If You Were to Write a Preface to the Bible

Books have prefaces — short introductions before the reader ever gets to the true content. These often provide encouragement to actually engage and read the book. If you had to write a preface to the Bible, what would you write?

It’s easy to be deceived and envious of those who strike it rich. Bought Amazon when it was six dollars a share? Have a flash drive full of bitcoin? Raking in jackpots? Ever considered something your friend has and longed for it?

The wisdom literature of the Bible encourages the Christian to use what God has given you for sharing with others. If you spend it all on a slot machine or sports books, what have you to give to the poor? A fool and his money are soon parted from one another.

Instead, consider that the environments you frequent may be designed to be addictive. Caution your heart against things that lead to jealousy, envy, strife, and theft. Instead, work with your hands that you may have something to share with your neighbor. Guard your heart against idolatry. Give not what is holy to the dogs.

Ready to Read?

Book collecting is great for the shelf, the backdrop to the den or home office. The knowledge contained in those books is able to change you. The book we recommend for a change of heart would be the Bible.

The Bible is filled with stories of some of the worst choices people can make, and many calamities that can befall you in this life. The Bible is filled with choices, of those who chose themselves, their own families, greed, money, fear.

The Bible also holds the answer to those challenges we all face. That choice is selfishness. Love. Caring for others. Giving of your belongings. Giving of your time. Compassion for others. Freedom that can only be provided by God. Jesus Christ came to this world to bring the solutions to the evils created by mankind and our paths of destruction. Only we can make this world a better place by choosing this path provided by Him.

Which path will you choose?

You can join this family at any time. Give your life to God, and choose him and his loved ones.

2 John is a short book with great impact. Simply put, we are to love God and our fellow men. This call of morality from God is to have self control and to act selflessly. Our actions stem from our hearts, and there is a record of our behavior. Regardless of if we want those skeletons in our closet to stay hidden or not, there will be a light shown on them by our creator. They will be revealed.

Don’t be deceived. There will come a time when you will face the mirror. You will have to give an account for your heart. Do you love money? Do you love your family but hate your neighbor? Do you make business decisions to be dishonest toward others?

Make a change in your life and stop doing those things. Jesus is the moral good that came into the world to show us the path toward righteousness. This is in changed behavior because of a change to your heart.

Balaam had a heart of greed. The actions of Balaam in Numbers 22 and 23 aren’t specifically declared as evil in the Old Testament. The tale of Balaam is a curious one, as the Angel of the Lord stood in his way. The talking donkey is of note. If you aren’t paying attention, it is easy to miss the critical understanding of the text.

God permitted Balaam to go, but He considered Balaam his adversary. What has corrupted Balaam’s soul? Peter tells us that greed and a love of wrong doing was what corrupted Balaam’s heart. For us to be deceived in our heart, we have allowed Satan to tempt us. We can have darkness consume us unless we guard our hearts.

Do you have a heart problem? Do you need to replace sin with God’s righteousness? Start now!

There is a lot of talk these days about connecting hatred and Jesus. Perhaps you’ve heard “there’s no hate like Christian love.” The question is proposed of what would Jesus say about our recent political elections. The answer to that questions is already found on the pages of the New Testament without inference.

When questioned by the Pharisees regarding a recent political happening in Jerusalem under the Roman authority of Pontius Pilate. Some rebellious Jews fled to the Temple Mount and ascended the altar for sanctuary. Pilate had the cohort of Roman soldiers climb the ramp of the altar and kill those who were there.

“Unless you repent, you will likewise perish.” Jesus and His focus on the spiritual Kingdom of Heaven is evident in the Bible. Regardless of who won, what will you do to spread goodness and love in the world?

Matthew 28:48 tells of prophecy fulfilled in Jesus’s death. The xylospongium was a sponge on a stick used in the Roman era. Its use had many applications, one of them was a toilet brush. Jesus in his moment of glory showing humility during his execution makes us clean.

The blood of Jesus makes us clean again. Without Him we are as dung before God. We are unclean and unworthy of peace. Through Jesus we have the promise of everlasting life, as He is able to wash our sins away. If Jesus can do that, why hesitate from turning to Him, putting Him on in baptism and be changed to do good. He tells us to take up our cross and follow Him.

Like a child trying to talk their way out of trouble, we often try and rationalize our sin. But can sin be rationalized? Our choices and motivations for our actions are feelings we often need to express. How often, then, do we come to our senses and realize our sins are mistakes?

Jesus came into the world to shed light on the dark actions of mankind. Those who hate Jesus are the ones afraid their actions will be brought to the light. However, eternal life is for those who realize salvation in Jesus is to have those mistakes forgiven by the sacrifice of Jesus.

Other than our “Laodicea Sip” experiences where performers or preachers are not engaging, how do some hold the attention of others. Especially with public speaking, this can be a major concern when looking at public speeches or teaching.

As with any skills, objective observation is helpful to improve skills. What about the power and effectiveness of silence in music or speeches? Implementing these characteristics and embracing silence in your performance can have a great impact and effect.

As we grow in our ability to reach others in positive ways, look to the moments of silence to bring positive impact on evangelism and teaching.

The letter to the Roman church gives us insight into the complex dynamics taking place in the first century as Greek and Jews embraced the new covenant of God’s family through Jesus. Paul makes an appeal to the reader to consider logic, understanding of your fellow man, and gives some principles about how to interact with people who are different to them.

For us, the mindset of love and patience and understanding help tune our hearts to encouraging others. If we are ever haughty or think ourselves better than others, we have lost the mindset of love for our fellow man. These advanced concepts are for those dedicated to becoming the best disciple and example of love we can be to one another.

There perhaps is nothing more intimidating than someone with a drawn weapon. The sword is spoken of in the Bible as being used throughout scripture, most of the time for its intended purpose.

The New Testament speaks of the sword of truth, which is the Word of God, able to pierce between marrow and bone, and the heart and soul. The message of the New Testament is love. Love for God, and love for your fellow man.

Just as the practice of swordsmanship takes years to master, the need to understand the scripture and wield it for good takes not only as much practice but intention.

In the life of a Christian, we must make a choice to grow in Christ or be deceived by the world. The maturing of your faith is discussed in the New Testament as we put off the old person and put on the new. The new self considers the feelings of others, has empathy for your fellow man.

Who is not worthy of the grace of God? If you think there are those who are unforgivable, do you hold the authority to judge them? Do you not want mercy for yourself and your sins? God desires that all men should come to repentance, and our responsibility as followers of Christ is to spread the love and forgiveness that we receive from God to others.

Studying to teach is often where a subject really comes to life for the student. We are called by the Bible to seek, to search, and to grow in our understanding and actions.

If there is any way we can help you on your spiritual path, please reach out to us.

We would love to hear from you!

It will not make much difference, friend,
A hundred years from now
If you live in a stately mansion
or on a river scow;
If the clothes you wear are tailor-made
or pieced together somehow,
If you eat big steaks or beans and cake ...
A hundred years from now.
It won’t matter your bank account
or the make of car you drive,
For the grave will claim all riches and fame
and the things for which you strive.
There’s a deadline that we all must meet
and no one will be late.
It won’t matter then all the places you’ve been,
Each one will keep that date.
We will only have in eternity -
what we gave away on earth,
When we go the grave,
we can only save the things of eternal worth.
What matters, friend, the earthly gain
for which some men always bow?
For your destiny will be sealed, you see ...
a hundred years from now.

Does the path of man lead to destruction? What of the pathway of Jesus? Men pervert the Word of God with false truths that lead to selfish destruction. Is it money you desire? Is it power? Influence? Or is it love?

Can it possibly be love that sets people against one another?

This week we talk about the role prayer has in our lives. A conversation with God and Jesus is good for your heart and soul. A relationship fostered between you and the creator is encouraged by the Bible for those searching for help.

The change in the New Testament regarding prayer is one of informality and familiarity. Go boldly to the throne of grace and make your requests known to God. Since He knows what you need before you ask it, the practical reliance on God through requests established the connection with the divine.

When was the last time you prayed?

We would love to hear from you!

This episode we welcome our special guest Michael Foster. One of the ministers of the Ropesville Church of Christ. A man of many talents and a love of serving God. Working for the kingdom, and a call to serve compels Michael to action.

When you feel a responsibility of the call to serve, the dedication to study and inquiry is required. This is the same as a relationship. The need to communicate with God in prayer and study His word is a discipline required to grow.

The teaching of God is mercy, love, and grace. Being a disciple of God requires action toward others. Wouldn’t you like to have the bad things you’ve done wiped away? The teaching of Jesus is that you must also forgive others of the wrongs they’ve committed. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we could forgive others.

Don’t be afraid of failure! Be strong and courageous one step at a time through life.

We would love to hear from you!

We all have desires in our hearts. Are yours selfish? Just for you and your family and friends? What about the strangers at the supermarket? Who is your neighbor?

A humble heart is required to have a relationship with others. If you place yourself first, there ain’t much room for anyone else. The wisdom of God reveals when you place others first, that is how you become great.

Loving God, loving your neighbor, and placing others first is the path to righteousness. If everyone behaved that way, the world would be a better place.

How do you seek after newer things? How do you obtain a happier life? The lessons of the Bible are about change, and making choices that reveal your heart of change. Practically, repentance stems from a desire to change, of newness.

When a change happens, everyday a testing will occur that forces your hand to make a choice. Even though mistakes happen, God is still waiting for you to come to Him with open arms.

Your path will lead you through some challenges. Will you choose to serve others? Will you choose yourself?

We discuss cultivating faith, and the common misconceptions of belief. The difference of a faith in God is a declaration of allegiance, or a devotion as a partner. This allegiance is spoken of specifically in Hebrews 11, how your allegiance can’t be merely lip service. This faith must cause action.

As your faith grows over your life, the path toward action intensifies and is amplified by your personal journey. The great characters of the Bible were able to accomplish much because of their faith. God even specifically rewards their faith with an equal reaction to the plan of faith and salvation for all.

Send your questions in by email, and we will do our best to answer them.

Are you the kind of person that wants to include others? Whether it be socially or even about spreading good news, the Bible and evangelism is about sharing the love of Christ.

You can do this with kindness. You can do this with hospitality or a meal. You can share the love of Christ with strangers, your family, or your coworkers.

The ability to reach across the table and help others to join your group is capably of changing lives. The ability to reach others and share the Gospel has the ability to save souls. Are you sowing the seeds of the Kingdom of Heaven by being inclusive?

Neil Postman’s book Entertaining Ourselves to Death is a great read, filled with a thesis of changing times based on technology. Literacy and the ability to read empowers those who embrace the acquisition of knowledge.

Knowledge of the scriptures and the love of God is reflected in the Bible. The calls for discipleship are belief in the higher power of God through Jesus. It requires a change of heart leading to a change in your actions. Embrace love. Abstain from evil things and thoughts. Serve others. Help others. In this pursuit, the beginning is founded on your curiosity to seek God through His word.

What is stopping you? Work preventing your dedication? Not enough time? Not enough money? Have something else to do? Maybe the game is on? Can’t miss our favorite show. Be careful, because you might miss salvation for your soul while you’re watching the big game.

Neil is preacher of Creekside Church of Christ in Franklin, IN. In addition to being a real estate agent, he is an advocate for realism among the family of God. Open about his youth, experiences in state homes and foster care, as well as personal abuse suffered, he is bold in his statements of redemption and the salvation of Jesus Christ.

This short conversation is a conclusion of his time with the Milwaukee Ave church in Lubbock for a series of lessons with the congregation’s youth and worship services.

He stands on the Bible and Jesus’s claims of being true and open about our sins and temptations. Why do we boast while being fake with our fellow man? Who are we impressing? The Bible says we are lying to ourselves and to God. Jesus says if we choose to be fake, or wear our mask, we have our reward in full.

Temptation comes in many forms for everyone. For Ethan, and many people today, temptation comes in the form of food. Any addiction is considered idolatry. It takes work, faith, and humility to keep such temptations at bay.

Is something getting between you and God? You and your family? Are you addicted to your phone? Gambling? Drugs? What is in control of your life other than you?

The healing power of prayer can help through those moments of temptation. Small obtainable goals works to be successful in helping you work on changes in your life. Repentance talked about in the Bible implies a change in your life. This change can save your life and save your soul.

The gospel message is simple. So, we should keep it simple. When discussing spiritual matters, find the common ground in your discussion with gentleness and kindness. Is your desire to win a brother in Christ, or to win the argument?

To our listeners who are members of the Mormon church or the Latter Day Saints, we extend a special invitation to you for love, study, and an examination of doctrine with the New Testament as standard.

We hope that all consider the invitation to question and seek after the things above. Be kind to all and be a sower of the seeds of the kingdom.

We reflect on our discussion with Cal Winston and his fantastic visit the previous week. How do you balance the call to work by God, developing your talents and skills, and not falling into the pit of arrogance?

It’s a challenge without God. Few people make such a selfless contribution to this world. Most stumble over the stumbling block of the secular follies of power, the pursuit of wealth, and the fulfillment of self. The Bible teaches against such vanities. How is this to be accomplished with God’s help?

In all things, do them in the name of Christ. When your life is given to God, the paradox is solved, and the continual giving of gifts is told to be a two way street.

Some people are going through life as if they are asleep. The Bible calls us to wake up and take action in our life. What are you afraid of? Losing your life? Eventually you will die. We all will. Take courage and take action.

Making changes in your life is difficult. The calls to repent in the Bible demand you take action for your choices and behavior. Do you not care about your fellow man? Have you forgotten you are a part of the human race and their collective pains and woes? Rise above the darkness and be a shining light. Take courage and take action.

The body of Christ is made up of all kinds and types of people, unified by the blood of Christ into God’s family. These observations are meant to uphold wisdom, teach patience, and cause mutual love among all of the church. When we separate ourselves from others, we weaken the established structure of the Kingdom of God.

Why be divided? Because they aren’t like you are? Because they wear socks with their sandals or enjoy a cup of Starbucks before heading to the office? Do you have the mindset of love and patience with all people? Or do you constantly find yourself ostracized from others?

in God We all experience moments in our lives where we lack confidence to say or do something. This is normal. Even to those who seem full of confidence. Knowledge and humility seem to be the things to prepare and practice to grow self confidence. What about confidence in something larger than yourself? Having confidence in God takes the same preparation and practice of knowledge and humility. Knowledge can be gained by the active reading and contemplation of the Bible. The Bible teaches the hope we have in salvation feeds our confidence to act in love toward God and our fellow man.

In our season of thankfulness, we look at our attitudes and being thankful in the Bible. We look at a story in I Samuel 25, where David and his men encounter Nabal and his wife Abigail. Have you ever been slighted when you thought you should be thanked? Have you acted like David and gotten revenge? David was fortunate because of Abigail’s actions. She interrupted David’s revenge plot and caused him to rethink his choices. Abigail’s actions caused David and his men to reclaim their attitude of thankfulness. It is easy to lose focus on your thankful heart and cause yourself or others to stumble. For this Thanksgiving, remember all the things to be thankful for. We hope you find happiness and blessings.

Keeping up with your expectations of where you think you should be is a slippery slope of selfishness. Whether you are talking social media, your neighbors, or someone in the grocery store, it’s not difficult to see and compare yourself to others. The Bible speaks of satisfaction, or contentment, with your life, and the things of this world. With a mindset of giving and care for others, as well as a growing reliance on the Lord and His gifts, satisfaction with what you have is a desirable thing to achieve. Consider your life today, and how you can help others.

The Bible does not want for spooky or scary concepts and ideas. There is a specific creature mentioned repeatedly in the Bible which causes fear and wonderment, the Leviathan. Whether this creature is still lurking in the depths, or has been tamed by the ancients of old, we still deal with our own Leviathans today. The choices we make, from the effects of peer pressure or the crippling weight of decisions past, can haunt us more than a scary movie or story. The freedom of release from those past choices are found in God’s kingdom and Jesus’s forgiveness. We hope everyone has a safe, and thought provoking, Halloween.

Addressing the needs of the youth of today is essential for connecting and reaching out with effective influence. There’s a difference between being influenced and being an influence. We are told to be a child of light. Many are wandering this life still asleep. No matter your age, we are called to be an influence for good.

Are you being influenced by darkness? Are you going through life without purpose? Have you built your life on the vain things of life? Are you producing fruit for good, for light, for God? Are you the light hidden under the basket?

It is important for those who are older and wiser to help teach the next generation. Be inspired to reach out and help others, especially those who are desperately seeking help.

The lessons from the Old Testament prophets of Jeremiah and Isaiah give us insight into the patience of God with the hardness of heart of the chosen people. What we must learn from them and their choices are the consequences to give praise and worship of idols. Leaders appointed by God for the people set bad examples; politicians are selfish and work to only better themselves; obedience to God has fallen by the wayside for the popular creations of the secular neighbors of the people.

The book of the Law being read again brings generations back to God because of their recovery of Godly knowledge and commandments. Do you read the Bible? Knowledge of the scriptures is the only way to understand and learn the holy precepts of God.

This week we take a short reading from Ecclesiastes 3. This passage is quoted popularly in everything from The Byrd’s to the movie Footloose. Recognizing the wisdom that good times and bad times will befall each of us in this life. The contemplation of life, while being idle, is essential to come closer to God in prayer. There is a time for everything in this life, and everything is able to become a sin with your choice. You must choose between good and evil. Even if you’ve made the wrong choice in the past, God is wanting you to return to him through repentance.

We welcome back Sam Wyatt to the podcast to continue a discussion of apologetics and the Gospel. God and the Gospel is able to provide the true answers to the questions of life. The responsibility of the Christian is to reason and rationalize our faith; it is even a command in I Peter. There will be challenges to your faith and your beliefs. We must be ready to give a reasonable defense of the hope within us. Apologetics is a responsibility of every believer.

If you are not a believer in Christ, why resist this good news? We encourage you to question, and search for the answers. Jesus tells us if we seek the answers, we will find them. If we knock, it will be opened to us.

We would love to hear from you!

Jesus and his teaching is very clear about how we are to deal with our enemies. We are to set the example of love, praying for our enemies, feeding them if they are hungry, and providing clothing if they need it as well. This is to show the change and grace provided to us by Christ. Our revenge is to be kind to them, and keep on spreading the doctrine of Christ through our actions. Is this easy? No. But we are in this together to be examples to the world ‘round about us of the hope within us.

We would love to hear from you!

This week we discuss Father’s Day, being a father, and examples to model our own behavior in such an important role. The father in the story of the prodigal son shows us how God allows us to make our own decisions, even those that may cause harm. The father in this story welcomes his returned son with celebration. God desires us to be with Him, and welcomes us when we come back home to Him.

Are you a father? Consider following after Enoch’s example and follow after God.

We take a look at Psalm 18, where David proclaims that God is his strength. In David’s time of fear, where he was being chased and hunted by King Saul and his champion fighters, he looked to God for protection. In your times of trouble and anguish, God is there to help you. All you have to do is ask Him.

This week we discuss music and its aspect in worship to God. History conceals more about music than we care to think. Many of our questions about ancient music practices  of the Jewish Levites and Israelites are left to the imagination, but we know their hearts were unified in worship from the scriptures. Similar questions are asked for today: what is music, how do we make music, how do we access worship and music with our hearts?
