A South African born #Rugbystory that has developed into the most sought after defensive coach in the world. Forging his career in his homeland and Europe he has become really adaptive and effective in the modern game. A great fella who is always thinking outside of the box for the next way of doing things yet is so current and explosive in his methods.
A story born, bred and developed in Widnes. A great lad who values family and friends in very high regards and loves his rugby of both codes. It was Union that G really explored while giving League a season. He loved his time at the Wids but work and life took him to London where he has really settled down and found what he is and what he enjoys. Rugby has till been a big part of this and will always play a key role in his life.
A Leeds lad who played multi sports but committed to Rugby League. An unsavoury act of racism whilst playing made him leave the game for a bit but he returned to the sport he loved. Signing for his hometown team and winning silverware was an absolute dream for him but his journey took him to pastures new at some big clubs. He’s currently enjoying life at Sheffield Eagles and continues to be the ultimate competitor.
A Widnes born legend who went on to represent his hometown on the field. Flourishing in the 13 jersey meant that clubs would notice him and St Helens spent a lot of money to sign him. He won the Challenge Cup, Lance Todd, Harry Sunderland, Man of Steel. His spell here was extremely successful as he was with England & Great Britain, Winning the World Cup in 1972. He toured some amazing places such as Australia, New Zealand, France & Papua New Guinea. He also had spells with Cardiff RL & Salford Red Devil’s. An absolute Gent with an amazing family.
A lad from Oldham who grew up playing any sport he could and supporting Man Utd. Rugby was always his passion and something he wanted to be the best at. A career that has seen him establish himself as a first choice half back and an international. A good guy with a few chapters yet to write.
A #Rugbystory born and bred in Ireland first with football but then Rugby Union. Ulster was his province and he was in and around the club until a move to England and Rotherham TItans came about. A life changing loss happened and his journey led to southern England with first Cornish Pirates and then the Exeter Chiefs and what a spell the latter would turn out to be.
A St Helens born Widnes fan that played lots of sport growing up and managed to live out a dream of playing for the club he supported. He had some career and got fees payed for him which is very rare in Rugby League. Jason shares his life and rugby journey with me.
A Cumbrian lad that loved his Rugby League and everything that came with it. He became a father figure before his time at home but soon made a new family with Barrow. He spent time both in England & Australia playing and formed many friendships. He come home and began coaching having spells with clubs such as Widnes, Wigan and Leeds while also gaining international honours coaching with England, France, Serbia & Great Britain.
A story beginning in Western Sydney where Tiaki grew up until France became home. Some junior rugby was played here until a return to Sydney and he continued honing his talents here whilst working as he left school at fifthteen. He returned to France and was spotted by Catalan Dragons whilst playing for St Esteve. His talent has been spotted by Wigan Warriors where the next chapter has begun.
A story born and bred in Wigan. A sport fanatic that dreamt of representing his hometown. Excelling in junior rugby up until a serious injury put a halt to a promising playing career. Coaching became his next love and what a career he had at some massive clubs like Salford, Widnes and Wigan whilst coaching Scotland national team. He now does great things with RL Cares.
An Ashton Bears junior who grew up wanting to be a Wigan Warrior. He achieved this before a move to rivals St Helens. A career change ignited a love for coaching, which he’s having a great career with. Some story with many chapters left to write.
An adopted Widnesian chats about growing up in St. Helens and playing football. A chance call up to his school rugby team changed his life. Saints came calling and the rest is history as they say, only for a serious injury to call time on his playing days. A top bloke with a great story, plenty more to come from Sherlock yet.

He talks us through turning pro and the devastating news of having to retire young, only to be resolute and determined in his effort to return. Ollie chats about growing up in Rugby Union hotbed Bridgend. He tells us about the successful sports people from his school, playing rep rugby growing up, being told he’s to small and getting an opportunity with Leeds Rhinos. This was all before leaving school. The Leeds opportunity changed his life and he eventually headed down under with Ipswich jets, to experience a new culture and lifestyle. Now helping people with their mindset, he’s thriving in a different way.
We hear how a Salford lad began his life, progressed through school, thrived at rugby and made a real successful career for himself with some massive clubs. He embraced team culture and individual discipline which led to winning silverware and international recognition and caps. The story is far from over as he looks to help Salford reach the next level. What a player but more importantly what a person, partner and father.
A journey beginning in Yorkshire at hometown clubs Newsone Panthers & Huddersfield Giants. A pro career with some outstanding highs and personal lows but he found his way to SL which was a huge personal goal. He’d began prepping for life post rugby during his career and now he’s reaping the rewards of that. What a bloke.

A fine man who was born and bred in Widnes. Growing up loving all sports, he came across Widnes Rugby League Football Club. He followed them home and away until he began playing Rugby Union at Fairfield High School because of the famous Ray French. The Wids was his next big love and this is where he would make a massive impact initially on the field and later on off it. Some great memories and spoke about from G, what an absolute Gent.
A Blackbrook Royals junior who grew up admiring St Helens RLFC. Coming through the service area and scholarship at Sts had him primed for academy level but he was released. This is when Deons story really started. A career that has included Rochdale Hornets, Barrow Raiders, Widnes Vikings and currently Salford Red Devil’s. He’s represented England knights with great pride and further aspirations for a “full” cap.
Adam hails from Ditton, Widnes that has produced fine players to rugby. Growing up it was always ever Rugby that he wanted to crack. His junior career was spent with Halton Farnworth Hornets and Widnes St Marie’s. I don’t doubt he could ever have imagined the career and life he’d have playing the game he adored. From playing first team at his hometown club Widnes Vikings to Australia with the Dolphins to recently leaving Widnes to sign for the ambitious Oldham. What a story for the big man to share.
Rhys shares his story from his childhood in Wales to his job now and everything in between. From playing football, rugby union and rugby league. A big decision was made as a teen and him and his family never looked back. Warrington Wolves, Leigh Leopards, Bradford Bulls and Leeds Rhinos are the clubs on his cv. Some career on the field and he’s smashing his career off it.
We hear how a Wigan St Pats junior rose through the ranks and played first team for his hometown club. We chat rep rugby, supporting Manchester United, winning academy grand finals all prepare him for the next chapter of his fine career. He grasped the next chapter and smashed it at Widnes Vikings and Leigh Leopards. Some player, career but importantly person, husband and father.
Ste chats to me about his upbringing and being around rugby forever. He was one of them kids that could’ve chosen any sport and he’d have excelled but Rugby Union was his passion. He smashed uni and rugby really began to take off and the rest is history. Great to hear how he’s returned “home” to Rochdale RUFC to finish an illustrious playing career in front of family and friends.
We hear Neil’s journey through life and rugby. From playing, scouting, coaching he’s done it all in the game. A lad that leaves no stone unturned and ensures his lads have a great time when pulling a jersey on.
Josh chats to me about life as a kid, teen and becoming an adult. How he got involved with rugby in his later teens and how watching Widnes became a huge hobby growing up. In his late teens is when he got a taste for winning trophies and he didn’t look back.
We hear about how a Cumbrian born lad grew up loving sport and began his rugby journey in his teens. Thriving playing union he was spotted by a massive league club in Leeds Rhinos signing a dual code contract, a first ever known in the uk. He went onto have a hugely successful career and is now thriving post career.
Tom shares his journey through life and rugby. He endured a torrid time at boarding school with bullying, he re invents himself at uni and begins to really thrive in a new environment. His rugby starts to become serious and progressing rapidly and when his boots are hung up he begins to understand himself a lot more.
John tells us about growing up watching his dad play at Halton RUFC and many a day spent at Naughton Park watching Widnes RLFC. This ignited a real passion for rugby and he found himself at Widnes St Marie’s loving life and rugby. We hear how he develops his games, begins playing both codes and leaves school for an apprenticeship. He had a big impact when he arrived at Widnes RUFC From the folded Halton RUFC side and he didn’t look back. He now returns to coach a very successful second team at the Wids.
Simon was born and raised in South Africa and sport was in the blood. Rugby and motor cross would keep the big fella busy and preoccupied whilst growing up. We chat about the school system, currie cup and coming over to the uk. Some career he’s having here and it is now home for Simon, Harlequins have a class player but more importantly a quality person on their books.
A local lad who excelled in a sport that is in the family's blood. Growing up through the age grades of his local team, he managed to develop himself into a quality operator around the field in a pivot role. As mens Rugby arrived, he found himself in the hooker role and never looked back. A stellar career was about to unfold and we get to hear all about it.
We hear how a Perth born back rower finds himself living and playing rugby league in Manchester. How he worked hard to prove a point to people and went about his journey on an unorthodox route but got to where he is enjoying life.
We start right from the beginning with Alex about being born in Camden but made in Leeds. Music and rugby league are a huge part of his life and he’s combined these to make a real impression in both fields. The man just oozes passion and ideas for both worlds and he’s been very successful by being determined and hard working. He’s now smashing life in Dubai doing what he loves.
An insight into a young man finding a way into his chosen career and what it takes to reach the elite level. Playing both codes of Rugby was a real advantage to Scott and something he took with him right throughout his career and still does now. We chat about the ups and downs of a playing career and coaching some of the best players on the planet.
A Widnes lad with a prominent surname in rugby union around the north west. Andy found his own path in the sport via Halton Farnworth Hornets in Rugby League and then joined Widnes RUFC in his teens. Honing his ball playing ability with aerial dominance has the first team on alert. He quickly established himself as indispensable and was part of an exciting back line. This got him the move he needed and Sedgley Park has got themselves a baller. He then represented Lancashire at HQ and he’s not looked back since.
We chat about Danny’s upbringing and love of rugby league. A ain’t career with his mates at Stanley Rangers was the exact environment he needed for his fondness of the game to grow. This sprinkled with some great coaches and influences helped Danny become the player and most importantly the man he is today. A man with a great career, loving family and an infectious attitude and aura chat about his adult life, career and family. A shining light for his family when times have been very difficult for the Kirmonds. I’ve no doubt his family, fans and previous clubs are extremely proud of Danny and know it’s a privilege to be a part of his journey.
This is Danika’s story in her own words. Sport was in the veins from a young age and got stuck in to anything she could. Rep sport was going to come one way or another and it was in Rugby. Excelling with uni, West Park Ladies, Yorkshire, Stanningley, Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos and England. We chat about life away from the field as well. What a career this lady had on the field and is having off the pitch as well. One of the leading ladies in our sport inspiring the next generation.
A career starting at Thornhill Trojans and then Newsome Panthers is that of this fine gentleman. Ticking all the rep boxes growing up he was always going to become a legend at his hometown club and first love Huddersfield Giants. A move to Bradford Bulls enabled him to prepare and build the next chapter of his career and life while still playing the game he thrives in.
A BFG who was hugely talented in sport especially tennis and cricket. Growing up sport was a source of comfort and normality as he battled with a stammer all his life. He smashed school and moved onto further education whilst playing sport. Forging a career with the fire service and starting a family halted that but eventually he found his way to Widnes RUFC and became a big part of a really successful spell for the club, yet his biggest victory is getting control of his stammer with the help of the McGuire Program.
A gentle giant from a hotbed of Rugby League that is Wigan. The game was in his DNA and Wigan St Jude’s was his first club. After a couple of seasons he moved to Wigan St Pats and began to forge his own path. Representing his hometown club Wigan was a proud time for him but it didn’t come without its challenges and tribulations. He now finds himself at Toulouse and loving life in France. Still plenty of chapters left in this lads career and who knows what’s next
A story born in Camden for a lady that loved sport and grew up playing Cricket and Football. A self proclaimed tomboy was finding her way through life but with no opportunities playing sport went to Warwick Uni studying. Still unsure of where life was heading she decided to study broadcast journalism. Some decision this would turn out to be, grafting her way up the ladder into tv and radio. Covering most of the sport Yorkshire has to offer, she would become well known to us all off the tele and radio due to her hard work. What a career so far and no doubt much more great stuff still to come.

This lady from The Shetlands tells me all about life and how she is now smashing life playing for Shotton Steel Ladies and Cheshire Bears. We chat childhood, jobs, social life and of course sports. Some story for girl who knew nothing of rugby up until a few years ago.
Paul chats to me about moving about as a kid, living in Belfast and growing up loving football and Man United. Discovering rugby was next and that lit a fire in Paul that would take him to international rugby and a move abroad to Northampton Saints. Unfortunately his paying days ended prematurely at Northampton but their was an off field role that suited him really well and he’s not looked back. Some story and career.
This weeks #Rugbystory is a fine gentleman from hull, just down the road from Hull FC spiritual home The Boulevard. A very hardworking man with some really good talent was spotted by clubs and signed for Leeds Rhinos. A fine career followed with spells at London Broncos, Mackay Cutters and two spells with Hull KR. Now plying his trade moulding the next generation of talent for Hull KR.
This weeks #Rugbystory is that of a city turned village boy who happened to be welsh and love his rugby. A journey beginning with Romney RFC and ending with Widnes RUFC. We chat about everything in between including the Royal Navy.
A Warrington born and raised baller who loved rugby from the day he picked a ball up. Growing up he played for Roland’s Sharks and was selected for his town. Climbing through the ranks he had a change of sport but rugby was always going to be what he done. A fine career that’s still thriving has given him friends and memories that’ll last a life time.
Mark chats to us about being around the Wids watching his dad, spending Sunday’s watching his brother and then beginning his own journey playing Rugby League. When at high school he was introduced to Rugby Union and became a part of a very successful age grade side at Widnes RUFC. Moving through the age groups he played colts and then first team and never really looked back. He tells all about a career that reached the goals he set himself.
Andy talks us through his upbringing with Rugby League at the heart of it. Watching Leigh from the terraces or playing for Leigh Miners Rangers that’s what it was all about until leaving school though he’s still a huge Leigh fan his job doesn’t always allow a visit to the LSV. Turning clubs around while being a businessman hasn’t been easy but he’d have it no other way. Rugby of both codes need people like Andy involved one way or another.
This weeks #Rugbystory is that of an Oldham born half back. A Waterhead and Oldham St. Anne’s junior who excelled enough to be capped internationally at u/16s level. A few offers were put forward but ultimately Wigan Warriors got their man. A bold decision took Olly to Huddersfield Giants were his game is blossoming and he earns himself England Knights selection.
This weeks #Rugbystory is that of a very talented player who loved the game the minute he witnessed his older brother Dan playing. Adam started his journey with Halton Farnworth Hornets, Widnes St. Marie’s and retired at Thatto Heath. He managed to represent his town, county and toured with his country. A great career for a great lad.
A great man who bleeds Salford Red Devil’s and wants the absolute best for the club and it’s fans. He grew up admiring the Red Devil’s of a different sport in football and supporting Man United. When asked to head down to folly lane for a game his life changed and he found a new love, Rugby League. A career with Salford and Swindon was concluded with a spell at burnage. He’s returned to Salford and played a huge part in the rebuild.
A proud Yorkshireman who has moved around a bit and experienced different cultures already in his young years. A West Bowling and Siddal amateur he always felt the need to prove himself and put a marker down of his own. He’s had speeds with St. Helens, chez Catalans, Yorkshire Carnegie, Old Brodleians, Yorkshire RU, Yorkshire RL, England age grade and England Knights. He’s soon to embark on a huge move himself but not before setting Super League alight once again with Huddersfield Giants, a fine young man with an exciting career ahead of him.

Having grown up in a rugby league loving town it was only right that Dom would thrive in the game throughout his junior career. On the back of developing through his grassroots side he then went on to have a good career on and off the pitch. Off the field him and his partner help transform lives daily. Tom chats about his upbringing in a football mad family and how doing something different from that led him to Rugby League and what a decision that was. He was a star centre in his pro career but injury brought a premature end to that and he’s thrived ever since. Passing on his extensive knowledge through research and due to his injury problems in the past to help people that are in his previous predicaments. This hasn’t been an easy ride for him or his family but together they’ve got through it.
A Widnes Ian born and bred, loved multiple sports growing up but it was the egg shaped ball that really gripped him and he excelled in. Developed a life for himself in the capital whilst continuing to trot the egg in and met the lady that he would marry before coming back up north and settling in wilmslow. He set a great charity up after calling time on a career called Looseheadz and they do amazing things.
Dave began his #Rugbystory watching Wigan V Widnes at Central Park with his dad, with that being uncanny as you’ll hear. He then got back into Rugby League at U/16s level and never looked back despite setbacks and negative comments. When the opportunity came Dave grabbed it with both hands and made a very successful career in Rugby League.
Growing up in Western Sydney the heartland of Rugby League in Australia, their was only ever one thing Blake wanted to be. That was an NRL starter at stand off. A really gifted athlete as a youngster he could’ve made it at a few event. The Rugby League ladder began and Blake talks us through his career and life so far. What a journey and it’s far from over yet.
John shares everything about life and rugby with us from his early days in Wales right through to retiring and more. What a distinguished career in both codes yet so down to earth and easy to chat to. Don’t hear many stories like John’s anymore.
Tyler shares his childhood upbringing in Halifax, his school journey and when rugby became serious for him. We chat through his moves that he made in order for him to progress and see what he can achieve. Some story so far for a young man. The sky is the limit for Tyler.

Jack shares his life with us that includes home, school, rugby and his adult life so far. His laid back attitude has allowed him to take everything in his stride and enjoy things that come his way. Rugby has been a release for jack both physically and socially but he’s beginning to reap rewards now.
Keith takes us back to where it all started and that's the family home in Huddersfield. We chat through school, how rugby was during this period and how he came to sign for Sheffield Eagles. After a successful spell here Keith wanted to develop and challenge himself so a move was asked for. As they say the rest becomes history. Hear his journey and how he went about his business. We travel through Greg’s life and rugby experiences from not wanting to play Rugby League to wanting to be in the biggest games on the biggest of stages. He’s had adversity but never lets it keep him down and moves onto the next challenge. Another credit to the game and a pleasure to get to know.

Played rugby both at school and for his club reaching representative milestones until decisions had to be made when rugby became serious. He entered the pro game with oldham rlfc and as they say the rest is history. He took the next challenge on after retirement by becoming a coach and is making huge impressions with Sale Sharks after coaching Wigan Warriors and England RL.
Born and bred in a city known worldwide for football Rob found Rugby later on in his teen life and it became something of an opportunity for him. Not realising he had a talent in the egg chasing game it was an ex school teacher that put him on the path at a well know merseyside club. His development took him to the premiership with the premier side of the north west. Hear Pauls story, the clubs he's played for and the players he's been fortunate to play with.
We hear how a young lad growing up in Western Queensland Australia finds sport gives him a release and later on opportunities. Business becomes his thing and early sacrifice and struggles teach him an early lesson but certainly doesn’t deter him. Fast forward a little and York City Knights become apart of this mans story.
Danny talks us through his childhood, discovering rugby, school life and his career through professional rugby league. He tells us some funny and some honest stories from his adult life and career. Guy shares his #Rugbystory so far beginning with his childhood, different countries, schools but rugby was always the common factor. He has always challenged himself in ultra competitive environments. Thriving in both codes Guy is having a career to be proud of with a lot more still to offer. A great inside look on a career at the top level in both codes yet still remains a grounded cool character.
Gil talks to me about growing up and what sort of kid he was and everything that he was in to. Mr Dudson tells me what his dream was growing up and how his career came about. Someone who has always stood tall and carried his team forward his story is a fascinating insight to how sport and life comes about and challenges you. Some journey the Dudson family are on.
Tyke shares his #Rugbystory so far with us from his early days with Woolston Rovers upto his current job role with Warrington Wolves in the scholarship & academy process. What better a bloke to look up to at Warringtons academy than tyke, been there & done it through that system. He's had the heart to go & test himself down under & has never been scared of a challenge or an opportunity. A great lad who just loves his Rugby League.

We hear how he's got to where he is now & what that entails in the professional game. JJ has had it all through playing for his hometown club, signing professional, relegation, administration & being at a top four club with huge ambitions. We hear his 1-13.

He's plied his trade at a few clubs & been allowed to play what he sees by doing what he does best. Beginning playing rugby league he really flourished when he rediscovered his confidence playing Rugby Union. Coaching is now his game & he's recently announced he'll be leaving his current club at the seasons end. Where is next for Paul? He shares his 1-15 with us as well.
Mike talks us through his early years growing up in Widnes and his introduction to rugby league. By his own words his didn’t really kick on in his playing career but took to coaching pretty well. Hear how that transition went and how he found dealing with a dressing room.
