That’s exactly what I was thinking when I was trying to figure out what you did. It looks totally fine! You just changed the pattern a little bit. If you don’t mind it then I think you should just keep right on with the pattern you’ve created

Are you knitting flat or in the round? Can you post a picture of what you have so far?

Well done!! This looks really great =D

I think it turned out great! It’s always hard knitting on circulars the first time but it does get easier.

View Details

This was my first time knitting with circular needles, I think it came out pretty good.

Awesome!

Made another one. Started a third (second child size) to use the rest of the yarn. It can be a gift for someone. :D

And the latest one:

Thank you Kristin for asking the question and thanks to Dani, Cecile and Jamie for the answers - I’ve been wanting the answer to this question for quite some time. :)

I second what Cecile said, I usually make the tail about 3 times the length that the finished item will be. I only recently figured that out. I was also ending up with either crazy long tails or way too short one and have to redo the CO.

Good on you for getting the courage to ask. That is what we are all here for, to answer any and every question that we can to help you out =D

View Details

Awesome!! I find it can really be hit or miss with kids so that is really great that she loved what you made her!

View Details

Another way to estimate is to leave tail 3 times longer than finished knit. For example, if you cast on for a back of sweater 50 cm (20”) wide, the tail should be 50x3=150 cm (20”x3=60”).

This works for me

You should be able to wrap the yarn around your needle the same number of times as the number of stitches you plan to CO. That should give a pretty good idea of length needed. I’d add a few inches and see how that works for you.

Just a quick update because now the children have returned we have exchanged Christmas gifts (Christmas dinner to to come on Saturday and I can’t wait!) Emily absolutely loved the pink version I made for her. Bonus mummy points for me

You’ll need anywhere from 50-200 yards depending on what size you plan to make. Do you know which size you are going to make?

What a great project! Here’s mine:

It just happened to match her new Slytherin scarf that she bought at Universal.

Just cast this on tonight and knitted the first 4 rows while on a skype call with my siblings :) I needed a quick knit for some instant gratification

There need to be more hours in the day so we can knit more!

It looks like you’re doing a great job so far! It’s so true though, practice makes perfect. That’s one of my favorite things about our mini KALs I think. It’s a small item that even if there are a few ~~mistakes~~ design elements, it helps you practice knitting AND you end up with a finished object!

View Details

Awesome! Quick little knits can certainly make you feel accomplished. Your friend is going to love these =D

View Details

We would love to have you! Do you have the yarn that you want to use?

View Details

I would think very stretchy - especially if made with wool (cotton might be a bit less elastic). I’ve made a few headbands and the first couple are a little big because I didn’t account for the stretch.

View Details

You’re doing great, it looks really pretty so far:)

Pretty:)

View Details

Very cute! I wonder, how stretchy is this?

I need to make another one for the youngest - but I need to finish my last blanket block and DH’s hat first.

I’m remembering when I first started crocheting, some of the disasters that ended up in the trash. And with practice I got much better.

I’ll be needing a lot more practice on the needles…. rows 1-12 done, about to start row 1 again.

There might be a few times I forgot which way the needle entered the stitch for a knit or purl. I’m not sure. But more practice will definitely be on the books.

I’m bored with knitting a scarf (late Christmas gift) and want a quick project that will make me feel I’ve completed something.

I’m going to knit up a couple of these for a friend who wears head bands all the time.

You can consider the alterations in the solid lines to be a design element ;)

It looks lovely! I like the color you chose, it’s perfect for winter =D
