It is such an important step in the clinical reasoning process. In this episode Shaun and Bodine pull apart the process required for developing a differential diagnoses list, what you should do with it, and why it is so important.
It is far too easy to fall into the trap of jumping to conclusions quickly, without weighing up the evidence that your patient presents to you in clinic with. The tried and true DDx process is the one thing that will help you ensure you aren’t wasting your patient’s (or your) time with assessment and treatment that gets you nowhere. It may also be the thing that helps identify a potentially sinister underlying pathology that could result in something quite serious.

This may very well be one of the most common traps, and important to recognise problems in the work we do clinically.
Tunnel vision will lead us to look for answers to the wrong questions. Such as, “how do I treat XYZ problem”? When really, we need to ask better questions, like “what are the predisposing factors for XYZ problem?”, and “how are the related tissues affected by XYZ problem?”. When we understand the relevant pathophysiology for a condition, we can then clinically reason our way to a solution.
Tunnel vision will prevent us from seeing solutions because we aren’t looking at the full picture.

In this episode the boys dig into such a critical component of every effective consultation.

The process of conducting a thorough patient history and subjective assessment is far more valuable than it often gets credit for.

Physical and objective assessment regularly takes the focus in a patient consultation, but we can actually gather far more information and often more valuable information from asking the right questions and allowing for data gathering through conversation.

We are in a unique situation in that we get to spend more time with our patients than many other practitioners in the medical field, and because of that we have the opportunity to really dive deep and uncover details that help us be much more targeted in our treatment plans and treatment delivery.

Enjoy!

Understanding what your running clients can do to reduce the risk of injury and in doing so, improve their running performance is super important for the therapist dealing with this populations.

Overservicing patients is an important topic for so many reasons...
In this episode Shaun and Bo explore the various reasons why therapists AND patients fall into this trap, and discuss why it is a major problem for the patient but also from a legal and ethics perspective for the therapist.
Treatment packages, paying in advance, scheduling multiple appointments at once and chasing rebooking rates can all be a cause for overservicing.
This is one that every therapist needs to listen to.

Today's chat is a bit of a reality check.
It's far too easy for us all to make excuses for the gaps in our knowledge or skill.
In today's world there are zero excuses for not being able to access the information we need, and we owe it to our patients to ensure we show up ready to help them with whatever they require.
Shaun & Bo will walk you through ways in which you can fill the gaps in your knowledge or ability, how to change your mindset to one of accountability and put the pressure on to stop making those excuses.
Get ready for a bit of a rant as the boys dish out their philosophy on Therapist Ownership!

The good old R-I-C-E protocol has been disproven in recent years, but should we be throwing the ice out with the bathwater (?).
In this, our first ACE Debate, we challenge the concept of ice / cryotherapy in clinical practice from both sides.
The premise of the ACE Debate is that our community (YOU) provide a topic for discussion and we research it, prepare opposing arguments, and present the information regardless of our own bias, thoughts on the topic or opinion.

This is an important discussion topic for anyone who is looking for a treatment protocol to follow for a specific clinical presentation...
It is human nature to look for a recipe for success, but more often than not, success is achieved through deep understanding of the problem and an appreciation for the human in front of you.
There are no short cuts, there are no simple 1-2-3 procedures to follow.
Respect the human body and become a master of your craft instead.

Its been a hot topic of debate for years.... Is Dry Needling simply a sub-skill within the skill set of an Acupuncturist? Or is Dry Needling a different, separate and unique modality that is separate to Acupuncture's approach to  using needles for the purpose of treating tender points on the body?
How are they similar, and what are the differences?
In this episode Shaun chats with two highly qualified experts in the field to get both side of the story, and to hopefully add some depth and detail to the conversation.
