The answer is: maybe.
We tapped the mind of Mathew Hodge, Morningstar's director of equities research, gives insight into what noise we should pay attention to, and why he "generally doesn't care about earnings season."

BlackRock and Vanguard have more funds under management than most countries make in annual GDP.
They're the biggest shareholders in Apple, Tesla, Microsoft, and nearly every other major company or hedge fund you've ever heard of, so it makes sense that some people claim they control the world… until it doesn't.
In this episode, Rob and Aleks debunk the BlackRock conspiracy theory, while shedding light on one 'conspiracy' that's actually true — at least in part.

Would you prefer a 'green' portfolio or a green world? In the the last of our two-part series on decarbonisation's investment opportunities we examine the difference.
Last time we set the scene for the problem and context, and in this episode we're talking about the investment.
Kate covers her history talking with companies about the investment opportunity, and how long it's taken some of them to come around.
She also provides insight into some big names that we might not think usually associate with a green future, and the big roles they're likely to play in saving the planet.

Welcome to our first two-part episode!
When we cut the mic after our last chat with ex-Fidelity portfolio manager Kate Howitt, we learnt of her passion for decarbonisation — and the huge investment opportunity it presents.
Her insights were too good to leave off-air so we've got her back to talk all about it.
In this episode, we'll set the scene with the decarbonisation problem with a little context around things that individuals and companies are able to do.
Then next week we'll be back expanding on how investors can profit off what will be the biggest thematic of our lifetime, and why mining might save the world.

Well, if you follow her (and given her 300k+ followers it's likely you do) then you'll know she's put in the hard yards in both learning about investing and in teaching others.
Queenie has built an empire of what she calls personal finance content creation, and is one of the very few licensed individuals providing high-quality information in a space that sorely needs it.

Aleks has finally won. After asking since day dot, the stars aligned and we managed to get the big boss — Selfwealth CEO, Cath Whitaker — on the pod!
Cath joins to explain the recent screes of Selfwealth Investor data our team has been crunching in the background.
Which state is more likely to invest?
Which generation is buying the most stocks?
Which gender is buying more?
What the hell happened to tech stocks?
Which ASX sector did Selfwealth investors buy into, and which companies had the highest returns?
How are young Australian investors behaving?
We answer all the above and more as Aleks and Cath pore over demographic and sector data, explaining trends and musing on 2023 outcomes.

"I wouldn't touch an ETF with a barge poll!"
Excuse me… what?
Peter Thornhill is the founder of Motivated Money and is one of Australia's biggest investing legends. He retired in his early 50s with $400k in annual dividends, and did so in a manner entirely opposite to how the rest of Australia invests.
Peter believes that investing is about being the custodian of capital, earning income from it, and passing it on to the next generation. He's a huge proponent of investing in LICs, and has a very strong argument for why we should we should ditch what he calls "the led in the saddle" and only invest in industrials.
Oh, and he also isn't into investing in property.

We often speak about the importance of educating the next generation about investing and finance, but we haven't spoken to anyone moving the needle in the space… until now.
Clever Women Co are a finance and lifestyle education business that reaches millions on TikTok. As they say on the pod:
"Clever is not about those over-repeated statistics, we're not telling women that we're a minority, it doesn't come from that angle of disadvantage but rather we take a positive angle, showing women the paths and stories for success from women who have come before them."
This wide-ranging chat covers:

Phil Muscatello is known for his Shares for Beginners podcast, and the investing education empire he's built around it. "My mum tried to do a budget with me and I cried."
Molly Benjamin used to be horrible with money. She had a high-paying bank job in London's Canary Wharf and was living pay check to pay check. She remembers seeing male friends ready to invest in property and female friends struggling to pay rent, and had the epiphany: financial education is crucial to survival.
The fastest growing demographic of homelessness people in Australia is women over the age of 55. A stat attributed, in part, to the garbage financial education of yesteryear women were taught.
In this episode Aleks speaks to Molly about:

More financial literacy means more women in finance, which means more Cathie Woods and a much more interesting investing space. Bianca Hartge-Hazelman is doing a lot to expedite that future.
An ex journalist, Bianca's love of data led her to create Financy and track women's financial progress through the Financy Women's Index (FWX).
As Aleks puts it, "the data drives inertia," and the FWX is an important tool in Australia's financial landscape that tells us how long it will be until things are fair.
In this chat, Aleks speaks to Bianca about:

Sometimes a chance encounter with an investing-savvy builder in a Nissan Skyline GTR can make all the difference…
We're back with another episode of $0 - $100k, and this time we're doing something a little different. Deviating from stock market investing, we're talking to brothers in a family owned real estate business, Linkers Group, who made their wealth the hard way in Sydney real estate.

What's the difference between your investments being managed actively or passively? If you don't know, it might be because most finance comms suck at teaching you.
Jodi Pettersen from eInvest is bucking that trend through @eInvestau, reaching a new demographic with social media quizzes, videos, and a decidedly less 'blokey' tone because stocks aren't all Wolf of Wall Street.
In this episode, Aleks chats to Jodi about:

Have you ever thought about how you want to retire? Because you should — especially if you're a woman.
The superannuation gender retirement gap means that women retire with a fraction of their male counterparts, and Craig and Trenna from Super Fierce want to change that.
Just like Big Swinging Stocks, Super Fierce exists to address the latent issues from finance's boys' club. Craig and Trenna are using their expertise from years of working at Macquarie (Trenna as Head of Strategy and Craig as Chief Investment Officer and Head of Innovation) to create a superannuation fund that makes wealth accessible to women through lower fees and a community centred on closing the gap.
In this episode Aleks talks to them about:

Aleks is introducing a new segment to Big Swinging Stocks — Controversy Corner.
The special is one of her favourites from Broke Girl Wealth. She reaches out to followers for input on a salacious topic, and reports on it. This time, we've brought Selfwealth's community into the mix as well.
In this episode, we do some digging into the data to report on an age-old source of ageist bickering: which generation has it easiest? Are the kids these days just too damn lazy??
In our quest to assess, we look into the following:

This episode, we're doing things a little differently with a personal story.
Aleks is baring all, sharing the ups and downs of her journey from deep in debt to a net wealth of $180k.
This journey isn't meant to be easy. And anyone staring at the sea of red in their portfolios will attest that right now it's harder than ever.
Aleks' story isn't a perfect one. She's made some questionable choices with credit cards and over indexed instead of paying bills.
But every mistake is a teachable moment. And in this episode she's sharing her learnings so that you might not make the same mistakes — or at least be a little easier on yourself.

What does a manager on one of Selfwealth's most popular ethical funds have to say about ditching Elon? Tesla made headlines recently for being booted from the S&P 500 ESG index, but BetaShares' ETHI dropped him off their index years ago.
Why? Because the G, often deemed as the less sexy part of the acronym, holds just as much weight as its peers.
To go behind what it means to run an ethical fund, we spoke to Jess Leung. She educates the masses through Instagram (@theleungway) but she's also a manager on ETHI — a top 10 ETF held by Selfwealth members.
