The yoga practice is a deeply spiritual, moving and healing practice. As yoga teachers, we have the privilege of holding the space in which this transformation takes place. Because it is a vulnerable place of reflection and excavation, our students might need support and guidance separately from the class.
But how to do it in a way that is safe and meaningful for our students and for ourselves?
This is what Christopher Perkins, co-founder of Yandara, and Yael Ginzburg spoke about. In this masterclass, they discussed intentionality in this space, tools and insights for supporting students on their path.

This week Ed and our host Yael Ginzburg spoke about learning from the physical, more obvious, about the more subtle layers of experience. The practical lessons we can learn from the therapies he has studied include- Learning how to breath through the survival responses of fight, flight or freeze to respond in an intentional way, setting boundaries and detecting the tension that accumulates in the body from emotional and physical trauma. This allows us to diagnose physical symptoms in order to understand the subtle layers of experience and then healing.

In the third episode with Christopher Perkins, co-founder and lead teacher of the Yandara Yoga Institute, he and our host Yael Ginzburg unpack a topic that is an important pillar of the yogic philosophy and our way of finding clarity in order to live in peace- the Kleshas. The Kleshas are the different causes of suffering in the human experience. By becoming aware of these obstructions we are able to recognize the moments of misperception that arise and choose our response accordingly.
They also speak about an integral part of the Yandara teacher training which is the Vision quest-
There are a few different layers to learning. There is learning that comes from information that we are given from teachers, and there is learning that we receive from finding enough silence to allow the knowledge to arise from within.
Here they present a practice that is meant to allow wisdom to arise.

In Hindu philosophy it is said that the Universe was created by Shiva, unmanifested consciousness and Shakti, manifested consciousness. In our reality we can find many, if not all aspects of life follow this same balance.
This week our host Yael Ginzburg speaks with Solana Prema and Rama Torres about the masculine and feminine aspects that we each have within us and especially within the structure of relationship.
There is a dance between taking time for ourselves to work on our inner world and working on the togetherness of relationship. Breaking out of the mold of what a man or woman ‘should be’ and letting our intention dictate our actions allows for conscious relating. Relating with each other while recognizing the line between compromising and staying true to ourselves. Also, recognizing the difference between facts and opinions. This allows us to bring the philosophies of yoga and conscious being into all aspects of life.
We also spoke about how to navigate a partnership where the partners are on different places on the path of inquiry.
Solana Prema Torres is a yoga and meditation teacher, breathwork facilitator, marriage and family therapist and holistic psychotherapist and coach.
