The story of Job is a riveting tale of riches to rags and back to riches. After suffering significant losses, three friends visited him and offered advice as to why this happened. Job's responses to each of them demonstrate his search for answers directly from the Lord. The key takeaways from this podcast are that:
1) The story of Job is a powerful example of resilience
2) Friends and family can offer advice but examine closely and identify their source of wisdom
3) God is the source of ultimate wisdom and answers
4) It is important to have faith even through difficult times.
5) It is not always necessary to give advice to a family member or friend who is going through difficult times. Our presence and knowing how to pray from them can speak volumes.

In this podcast, the power of spiritual warfare was discussed with the examples of Elijah and David in 1 Samuel and 1 Kings. Both examples show that relying on God's strength and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, are powerful weapons in spiritual warfare. Elijah and David both knew that relying on their own strength and weapons would not be enough to surmount the spiritual attacks of their enemies, so they placed their trust in God. They used prayer, faith, and the Word of God to combat the deceit and lies of the devil and to demonstrate the power of God. It serves as a reminder that, with God's help, we can overcome any spiritual attack that comes our way.

In today’s increasingly secularized world, sexual immorality has become an ever-present reality. Many people don’t recognize how profound an effect it has on our lives – both physically and spiritually. But the Bible is clear when it comes to sexual immorality. In 1 Corinthians 6:13-20, we’re told that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit; therefore, we should not “take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute”. So, how does this commandment apply to us today and why is it important for Christians to avoid sexual immorality? In this podcast, we’ll explore the implications of 1 Corinthians 6:13-20 and answer those questions. We’ll discuss the physical, spiritual, and moral implications of sexual immorality, how it’s different from other sins, and why it is particularly damaging. Additionally, we’ll consider practical steps we can take to protect our bodies and spirits from the harm that comes with sexual immorality. By the end of this podcast, we will have a clearer understanding of sexual immorality, its effects, and be able to make more informed decisions when it comes to our own relationships.

Paul's usage of a military metaphor, likening non-believers to recruits and their spiritual growth to intense training, is fitting. Through learning about the Bible, developing a deeper understanding of God's love and grace, and learning how to apply these principles in daily life, disciples are made through rigorous and intense training. These lessons are as much about character, discipline, and resilience as gaining knowledge.
Key Takeaways:
Paul uses an appropriate military metaphor when discussing non-believers and their spiritual growth.
Through intense training, non-believers become disciples of God.
The training involves not only knowledge, but character, discipline, and resilience.

Today’s topic is: Effective Evangelism
In this episode, we endeavor to answer 4 questions:
How do I cope with members of my religious community who urge me to evangelize to non-believers about our faith?
How can I better talk about spirituality and religion with my family and friends if it's important to me but not to them?
How can I interact with my religious family more effectively during holiday gatherings if I do not share their beliefs?
If we know religious stories are not literally true, what is their true value?

Chapter 5 denotes the conclusion of James’s letter. We cannot end the story about “Camel Knees” James without discussing prayer, can we? James ends in the similar way he begins by talking about difficulties, tests, and challenges. Not only does he tell the reader to expect these kinds of problems, but he offers advice. He instructs us to “be patient and stand firm” (5:8) “In the face of suffering” (5:10). We are to pray as we wait patiently. We must direct our attention—as well as our emotions and lives—toward the One who is “full of compassion and mercy” (5:11). This podcast will address only two of the three parts: patience in suffer and the prayer of faith.

Podcast Title: False Teachers, False Teaching, and False Prophets.” Season: 1, Episode: 4 Hosted by: Donna Means Social Media: Facebook, TikTok, YouTube: @churchonethereelreal/
I want to briefly summarize the previous episode before moving forward to today’s topic. We talked about discipleship, prerequisites for becoming a true disciple, requirements for discipleship, and the contrast between true disciples and other types of followers (namely: spectators, opportunists, parasites, and traitors). We were able to see the continuity in Jesus’ teachings relating to discipleship. At the end of the episode, we conducted an introspective to answer the question, “Are we the disciples that God is seeking?”
After conducting the introspective, we could come to three possible conclusions. First, we may realize that we have fallen short, we are convicted, and we are now striving to be the true disciple that God desires. Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit working in us. We should be thankful that Holy Spirit allows us insight into ourselves because we have an opportunity to adjust our behavior. There is no shame in this because Romans 3:23 NIV says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
The second response could be condemnation. We may feel discouraged by the requirements and feel that it is impossible to meet the expectation. Let me encourage anyone who feels this way. Please remember Romans 8:1-2 NIV says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” This scripture reminds us that we have been justified because of what Jesus has done and what the Holy Spirit is doing in our lives. Under the umbrella of salvation and the desire to truly serve God, we continue to seek God through prayer, Bible Study, and other spiritual disciplines. Discipleship is a process that occurs in our daily walk. Any condemnation now comes from our adversary who wants us to turn away from God. Instead, tell the enemy, “No!” We should turn to God in prayer and ask that he would reveal to us the areas for improvement.
Lastly, if after completing the introspective we concluded that there is nothing we need to alter about our connection with God, we should seek God in prayer. As we prayer, we should ask God to remove any spiritual blinders and reveal to us any area in our spiritual walk that his not pleasing to him. Our inability to identify where we are falling short is a symptom of being spiritually stagnate. Spiritual stagnation occurs when a child of God stays in the same place in their spiritual growth for an extended period. As disciples, we should be constantly growing and evolving. Disciples are simply students. We must actively pursue studying the teachings of Christ, routinely engage in spiritual disciplines, and pray without ceasing. Spiritual stagnation is dangerous as it can make us susceptible to false teachers and false teachings.
This leads us to today’s topic, “False Teachers, False Teaching, and False Prophets.” Recent headlines spotlighting the questionable behavior of high-profile spiritual leaders, presented the opportunity to discuss this topic. Outraged individuals took to social media to vent their righteous indignation relating to the recent headlines. Before labeling a leader as being a false

Greetings everyone and welcome to the Church on the Reel Real Podcast. R E E L as in multi-platform broadcast. R E A L as in a genuine conversation or true dialog about faith-based issues. I am your host, Donna Means. Today, I will be discussing Proverbs 22:6 NIV which says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
In the earlier episode, I shared that I grew up in 1970 and church attendance was mandatory and not option. I want to expound upon that experience. From the age of 14 through 17, I was not able to attend church. I was a student by day and a caregiver by night. Seven days a week I cared for two elderly female cousins after school. There were three of them that lived together. The youngest of them died unexpectedly. The two cousins that remained in the house suffered from chronic ailments with limited mobility. All three were instrumental in my upbringing. Other adult family members either would not or could not care for them. If no one else would look after them, I would.
My mother chauffeured me to and from their home five days a week. I would stay with them on the weekends. Due to my tendency to be an introvert, I did not feel like I was missing anything. I was an obese child and adolescent. This made me an easy target for bullying, pranks, and other cruelties. Therefore, I enjoyed their company and appreciated their wisdom.
While I was not actively attending church services, I continued to keep a consistent prayer life and read my Bible. At times, I found being a student by day and caregiver by night overwhelming. I had to communicate with doctors about prognosis, diagnosis, and how to dispense treatments. I had to learn to use my voice to advocate for them and myself. Often doctors would use medical jargon and be dismissive of me because of my age. I was persistent and relentless to obtain correct instructions to ensure proper care. My mother expressed her concern, but I insisted that I was fine. I feared that if I was not there to look after them that they would be placed in nursing home facility.
I called my pastor to explain why I had not been to church and my role of caretaker. I made a request for him or the deacons to visit and pray with my cousins and me. His response perplexed me. He denied my request because they were not active members. Is it not the purpose of the church to help those in need? In James 5:14-15, does it not tell us if one of you are sick seek the elders of the church? While my relatives were not members, I was. I needed prayer and guidance, but the answer was, no?
One day, I received a "State of Delinquency" letter. The church had not received any tithes or offerings from me in six months. Aside from lunch money received, I had no source of income. My pastor was fully aware of my situation because I told him personally. Normally, my mother would give offerings on my behalf. I assumed if my mother did not give the offerings to the church, she did not have it to give. My mother managed and financed two households. She supported her mother's household and her own. She worked long hours and was stretched thin.
Baffled by the letter, I called my pastor. This discussion was illuminating as it was disappointing. My pastor who I always thought to be caring and compassionate was showing me another side of his character. After explaining my concerns about the letter, he showed no empathy. From his perspective, I should be able to attend church services at least once a month. I explained there were other family members that either would not or could not help. Outside of attending school, caring for my family members was top priority. The fact that my mother lived directly across the street from the church did not help my case. My cousins, on the other hand, lived across town. The conversation ended with my pastor telling me I needed to do better. I was livid and heartbroken to not have the support of my pastor or my church.
It was at

Growing up in the 1970s, going to church was mandatory and not optional. I went to church every Sunday, whether I wished to or not. However, I did not look at it as a punishment. I went to all church functions, including Sunday school and adult Bible study, with my maternal grandmother. I was an usher and sang in the choir. Even if children were not official church members, they were encouraged to participate in church activities. I particularly enjoyed singing in church services. Every Sunday, churchgoers arrived early gathering in the vestibule and fellowship hall to greet one another. Everyone was friendly with one another. They wore their Sunday finest, clutching tattered Bibles housing dog-eared pages. They came equipped with notepads and pens so that they could make note of the sermon's important points. The church services would be packed every week. Ushers would need to add folding chairs in the middle aisle for more seating. Speakers were added to fellowship hall and choir rooms so that parishioners who could not be seated in the sanctuary would be able to listen to the sermon. There was a steady flow of new believers joining the church. Our local assembly was kind and caring, but I would avoid my weekly interrogators, who would always ask the same questions. They would repeat the pastor's "Fire and Brimstone" sermons, which warned that those who didn't accept the gift of salvation would be doomed to the lake of fire. The pastor made accepting salvation appear simple. He would explain how the gift of salvation was free and all we had to do was accept it. It would be our lifeline. The consequences of not accepting it meant eternal damnation. My interrogators would reiterate this time-sensitive offer. I was under a lot of pressure, but I resisted it. My decision was of paramount importance to me, but only I could make it. It happened while I was in the choir loft. The Lord communicated with me directly. I still remember the warmth and love I felt when the Lord spoke with me. No, it was not audible; rather, it was like a prompt in my spirit. I felt safe and secure. I left the choir loft to surrender everything to Him. I had a basic understanding of salvation when I declared Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Jesus' love for me was so strong that he offered his life. Now, I am reconciled with God. God has sealed me, marking me as his own, giving me the Holy Spirit as a deposit of eternal life. I knew nothing could ever separate me from his love. I was baptized when I was eight years old.
Over the forty-year span, there has been a dramatic shift. According to the research performed via The Barna Group, this shift has impacted the church globally. In 2021, the Barna Group published an article entitled, “Missions in Review—Trends Impacting Global Missions & Evangelism,” highlighting the results of a survey on the Great Commission. The survey consisted of 1,004 participants. According to data, only 17% of churchgoers knew what the Great Commission was. The remaining churchgoers (51%) were mostly unaware of it, with a quarter (25%) admitting to knowing it but not being able to remember its definition. Statistically speaking evangelism is down due to ineffective training universally. Let us examine some of the statistics from the study. People within the study are place in 1 of the 4 categories: Elders, Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials. Have heard of and remember the Great Commission · 29% of elders · 26% of boomers · 17% of Gen X · 10% of Millennials Have heard of but can't recall the Great Commission · 13% of elders · 16% of boomers · 24% of Gen X · 41% of millennials Identify the Great Commission from a list correctly. · 43% of elders · 42% of boomers · 41% of Gen X · 34% of Millennials Do not know the Great Commission · 48% of elders · 56% of boomers · 53% of Gen X · 41% of Millennials According to a Barna study, Gen Z (children of Generation X) and Millennials believe and act differently from older Christia
