The Positionless Podcast is a weekly basketball show hosted by Kai Gammage, Aaron Mathew, Diego San Agustin, and Mike Cruz, 4 of the brightest young minds in basketball media today. Every Friday, they get into all the news, on and off the court, and offer some heated analysis and lively debate into everything NBA and beyond.
Kai, Aaron, Diego and Mike come through with another off-the-cuff episode following the untimely firing of Milwaukee Bucks rookie coach Adrian Griffin and debate whether or not the move was justified and if Doc Rivers, with his less-than-ideal postseason record, was the right man for the job going forward. They also dig into the Miami Heat joining the fray on the trade market by acquiring Terry Rozier from the Charlotte Hornets and where this might position them going forward. Lastly, they quickly touch on some massive outings from Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns!
Despite a short-handed crew, Kai, Aaron, and Mike hop on the mic to discuss the blockbuster deal that sent Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers. They talk about Siakam's fit alongside Tyrese Haliburton and where they now stand in the Eastern Conference landscape. The boys then reflect on Siakam's journey in Toronto, what he meant for the franchise and his rather sad exit amidst the messy trade rumours and contract discussions.
The first episode of 2024 is here! Hopping off from last week's blockbuster, the boys evaluate the early returns of the Knicks-Raptors trade that sent OG Anunoby to New York and RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to Toronto. Later, they discuss all the surrounding storylines of the Warriors' disaster of a season, including Draymond Green's impending return, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody's frustration with Steve Kerr, and Andrew Wiggins' fall off. Next, Aaron goes HAM on Darvin Ham and how he has mishandled this Lakers roster so far. They also talk about whether a Zach LaVine trade would salvage the season. They end the episode on potential destinations for LeBron James should the Lakers trade him (they won't).
No more winter break for the boys as they hop on for a must-listen emergency episode after the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks got together for an absolute BLOCKBUSTER just ahead of the new year, swapping OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn for Immanuel Quickley, R.J. Barrett and a second-round pick! They then quickly touch on the other massive breaking news from Saturday night as the Raptors then went on to lose to the lowly Detroit Pistons, ending their historic losing streak at 28 games. What a roller coaster!
The boys are back with a recap of what was an exciting, shocking and overall super-successful inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. They weigh in on LeBron handing the Pacers, and more importantly Father Time, an L, Anthony Davis turning it on whenever he plays at neutral sites, Tyrese Haliburton's rising star and whether or not the Lakers need to do anything drastic with the trade season looming. They also touch on Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets going a bit cold and whether it's something to be worried about.
The boys are back on to preview and give their predictions for each game of the Knockout Rounds of the NBA In-Season Tournament. Later, they also predict who they think will take home the inaugural NBA Cup and win tournament MVP.
Aaron, Diego, Kai and Mike are back with another one, this time handing out their biggest surprises and disappointments a month into what has been a wild NBA season. They weigh in on the shocking teams atop their respective conferences, the players making a huge leap, pieces that don't even look close to being ready and much more!
For this episode, Kai, Aaron, Diego, and Mike discuss the Bulls potentially moving on from Zach LaVine and look into how he fits within some top contenders in the NBA. Next, they talk about the Giannis, Dame, and the Bucks finally looking to figure things out following their slow start to the season. The boys then talk about how much De'Aaron Fox means to the Sacramento Kings and his jump to being a dark-horse MVP candidate. They then talk about Chet Holmgren emerging as the second star in Oklahoma City and how he is running away with Rookie of the Year. Finally, Mike gives a passionate rant on Klay Thompson becoming an absolute shell of himself as he finally comes to the realization that the Dubs dynasty is finally cooked.

Kai, Aaron, Diego, and Mike give their thoughts on the horrendous start of the James Harden era in Los Angeles, while also talking about how terrific the Philadelphia 76ers have looked so far. Later in the episode, the boys discuss the Houston Rockets' pleasantly surprising takeoff this season and the Minnesota Timberwolves' jump to becoming the best defensive team in the NBA.
Kai, Aaron, Mike, and Diego discuss the James Harden trade and how it impacts both the Clippers and the Sixers. They (Kai, mostly) then gush over Scottie Barnes and his growth as a breakout star for the Raptors. The boys then talk about the absolute monstrosity that is Victor Wembanyama. Finally, they share who they think are the biggest losers through the early goings of the NBA season so far.
The 2023-24 NBA season is off to a flying start! Kai, Aaron, Diego, and Mike discuss their biggest takeaways from opening week so far. Mike returns and talks about Chris Paul's seamless fit with the Warriors. Diego discusses how Chet Holmgren does not look like a rookie for the Thunder. Kai argues how the Sixers (pre-Harden trade) can still be competitive in the East with the Celtics and Bucks based on what they showed in the opening week. Finally, Aaron discusses the Lakers' struggles and Darvin Ham's questionable rotation decisions.

In a somewhat emergency pod, a shorthanded staff of Aaron and Diego (with a little Kai feature) break down the blockbuster Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks trade. They dig into the repercussions of the deal, whether the Bucks are now the favourite for the title, if the Blazers got the most out of the situation, where Jrue Holiday could end up next and of course, Kai comes through with yet another rant about a stagnant Raptors team.
Kai, Aaron, Diego and Mike and back with the second annual edition of the coaching hot seat tier list. This time they go through all 30 head coaches and examine how safe and steady each are in their current jobs and examine the stakes present for each team in the league, ranking them from S-tier to D-tier based on how likely they are to be fired over the course or after the season.
In this post-FIBA World Cup episode, Kai, Diego, Aaron, and Mike discuss Canada beating the United States in the Bronze medal game. They talk about Dillon Brooks' redemption story following his 39-point masterclass versus the US and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander cementing himself as a true NBA superstar through the FIBA World Cup. The boys also discuss what went wrong for the USA in the FIBA World Cup and the chance that LeBron James actually ends up assembling a USA Avengers squad featuring Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and more top-tier stars for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Finally, the boys touch on the NBA's proposed resting policy and Christian Wood going to the Lakers.
Kai, Aaron, Diego and Mike are back at it again with some more FIBA content to keep basketball fans as happy as ever during the usual slow period for the sport. With the group stages in the rearview mirror, they move onto the knockout round and the boys preview all the upcoming matchups. They dig deep into Canada's massive win over Spain, securing them an Olympic berth, and continue to fawn over SGA's sheer dominance at the World Cup. They also touch on the USA's loss to Lithuania and discuss whether or not this is a sign that the once unstoppable juggernaut of a basketball country is starting to show some cracks in their armour.
After a six-month hiatus (sorry), Kai, Diego, Aaron, and Mike are back on the docket to discuss the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The boys begin by talking about whether Canada can be a real threat to the United States following their outstanding showing in the group stage so far. After that, they talk all things Team USA — the emergence of guys like Anthony Edwards, Paolo Banchero, Tyrese Haliburton, etc. with Aaron, in particular, unable to conceal his affection for Austin Reaves. Finally, they make their predictions on which teams round out the top four and who wins tournament MVP.
For the first time in over three months, the entire four-man crew of The Positionless Podcast is finally back together. Following arguably the wildest trade deadline in recent memory, the boys discuss about the biggest deals that went down. They begin with the Kyrie Irving trade to the Dallas Mavericks that kickstarted this entire fiasco, then proceed to talk about the ensuing Kevin Durant midnight blockbuster that sent the 2014 NBA MVP to the Phoenix Suns. They also discuss the multi-team deal that ended Russell Westbrook’s tumultuous tenure with the Lakers and how Rob Pelinka was able to pull off the acquisition of D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley. Kai also goes on a passionate rant about Toronto bringing back Jakob Poetl and Masai Ujiri’s decision to stand pat despite the trade rumours surrounding several Raptors in the lead-up to the deadline. Finally, they quickly rattle off their thoughts on the other notable deals during Thursday’s busy day.
Aaron, Diego, and Mike are back on the docket to discuss the latest in the NBA. Triggered by that heinous non-call on LeBron James’ game-winning layup attempt versus the Celtics, they begin by expressing their grievances over the atrocious officiating and the lack of consistency shown by NBA referees with their calls. After making their All-Star starter predictions last week, they predict who will round out the rest of the field and make the All-Star Reserves. Finally, they talk about the latest Joel Embiid vs. Nikola Jokic matchup and argue whether Embiid has a real chance of supplanting Jokic off the top of the MVP ladder.
THE POSITIONLESS POD IS BACK. After a month off the mics, the crew is finally back to talk ball. Aaron, Diego, and Mike start off the show by giving their All-Star starters predictions with the official announcement coming up on January 26th. Then, they discuss whether the Brooklyn Nets can sustain their top-four spot in the Eastern Conference standings without the injured Kevin Durant. They also talk about the emergence of the Sacramento Kings as the most exciting team in the NBA. Finally and inevitably, they discuss the Los Angeles Lakers and the potential deals the team could make as the trade deadline approaches.
After a short break, the guys are back together to talk about the biggest stories from around the basketball world this week. Kai, Mike and Aaron start the show off talking about the New York Knicks who are in the midst of a 7-game win streak and have looked completely revitalized, especially on the defensive end. They then dig into the other New York based squad, the Brooklyn Nets, and discuss how insanely good their two superstars have looked now that the drama surrounding the team has been somewhat quelled. They also talk about whether Jacque Vaughn deserves a good chunk of the credit for this more than successful turnaround. Afterwards, they talk about teams that are slumping and just how far they could potentially fall. First, it's the Los Angeles Lakers who lost superstar big Anthony Davis for a month, then they talk about the dismal Toronto Raptors and whether or not they should blow it up.

Nearly a quarter of the way into the season and patterns are starting to develop. The boys from The Postionless Pod met up to break it all down. With Kai taking one more week off, Aaron, Diego, and Mike talk about KD's most recent comments about his teammates and if throwing them under the bus was the right call? They then get into a team that have surprised some, the Sacramento Kings, their recent offensive explosion and if they think it will last. Then they get into a couple teams that are slumping, the Cleveland Cavaliers fresh off a losing streak and the Golden State Warriors fresh off a championship hangover. At the end they sort a few players into guys that have exceeded, met, or underperformed expectations so far this season.

At the behest of Mike, they talk about the weirdly bad Warriors and what they could do to improve what should be a much better team. Championship hangover? After talking about the bad teams in the NBA, they transition to teams having great years, the Utah Jazz and the Milwaukee Bucks, two of the three teams in the league to have already reached 10 wins. At the end of the show, they do their weekly NBA Players of the Week segment, discussing the two winners from this past week of action, Kevin Durant and Paul George.

Though it's only been a week, storylines have already begun to brew, and potential trends are setting in around the NBA. Kai, Aaron, Diego, and Mike come together to talk about all the big surprises at the dawn of this season. To start the show, they talk about how the Utah Jazz have been surprisingly good, or bad depending on how you measure their success this season (2:50). Then they talk about another one of the undefeated teams, the Portland Trailblazers, and their victory over the lowly, winless Lakers (19:20). Later on in the show, they talk about the disappointing Philadelphia 76ers, and what has changed in this team's identity to make them struggle this much to open the year (41:52). To kick off the show, they each go into why Bill Russell was such an important figure on and off the court, and give a short remembrance to his life and legacy (4:40). Big stories all kind of broke at once, so they started the show off digging into the Jaylen Brown and Kevin Durant rumours (3:25) and capped it off by talking about how this trade would potentially shake up the Eastern Conference team tiers. After that, they talk about the potential trade destinations for Donovan Mitchell that were included in a report earlier this week (40:10), with, of course, an emphasis on how he would fit on the Raptors. Later on in the show, they touch on a multitude of topics in the WNBA including the Commissioner's Cup, the potential for shake up in the playoff picture, and the Storm's continued Surge (59:49).

Kai, Aaron, Diego, and Mike present their first ever episode of the Positionless Pod and it's a doozy. They discuss Donovan Mitchell and the now open trade talks between the Utah Jazz and other teams, presenting trade packages, potential fits, and everything important surrounding the move (5:28). They then dig into some of the new rule changes that have been presented including the in-season tournament and a permanent play-in tournament (29:42). Later on in the show, they discuss Summer League, but take a more focused look on some of the stand-out second year players taking part in the tournament including James Wiseman and Mac McClung (42:15).
