I've been able to bring down my running from 10 minute miles to 7 minute and 30 second miles in 1 year. This has been my biggest accomplishment of my entire life and I feel the biggest contribution has been developing my mindset to force my body develop muscle fibers that will help me sustain a faster pace. Some people are given this talent naturally, I'm not one of them. The only way I was able to accomplish this is by putting in the work, consistently working hard, focusing on proper form and telling myself "I can do anything." The first year of running I changed my mentality from run/walk to focusing on running. To make this switch from walk breaks to just running fast even though it was hard no matter how bad I wanted it. That's what changed for me, whenever I had doubts about the pace I would tell myself "I can do anything." And thinking like that made me able to go farther than ever before physically.

Fundamentally, you have to maintain your aerobic base. That's your engine. You can have a lot of horsepower, but if you don't have a big engine to drive it, you're not going to get very far. Crossfit is a great way to develop your aerobic engine, so that you can go out for those 5 or 6 hour runs that are required to finish a 100 mile race. And beyond development of the aerobic base, some of the common exercises within Crossfit - weighted pull ups/chin ups, kettlebell swings, deadlifts - really strengthen the tendons and skeletal muscle in ways that running alone cannot do.

I believe discipline is something that's easier to manage if you have a system in place to manage it. Whether your goal is to increase your fitness, save more money, or get better grades at school, the five steps laid out above should help give you a framework for setting short- and long-term goals, and taking a major step towards achieving them.

Hopefully you learned a few things about macronutrients in this podcast. I'd also like to touch on how eating more fruits and vegetables can help enhance performance. It's important to maintain low fat levels, which makes fruits and vegetables optimal options for consuming carbs. While most think of fruits as simple sugary sweets, they are jammed packed with carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals that can have positive effects on an athletes' health. Kick up the fruit intake in your diet!

For weeks on end I felt like I was not getting anywhere with swimming until today! I swam passed 2,000 Meters and to some that's not a lot but for me it is because I have zero endurance but we all start somewhere. It took me a little over a month to finally see a bit of progression, I was almost getting scared because nothing was happening.

Bodybuilding from the outside is well known to be a "healthy sport" but in reality it's the deadliest across the board. You might be thinking how HOW!? and WHY!? The main reason being that steroids are not regulated in bodybuilding and that alone opens a can of worms to a lot of health issues and not to mention emotional struggles with body dysmorphia. I decided it was time to let my physique go and not live in constant battle of looking a certain shape, weight and size. It's a lot of baggage to carry and it was safe to say that this journey is a lot more fun than I expected!

Body fat is essential to keeping our bodies healthy, because NOT ALL BODY FAT IS BAD. The cardiovascular and central nervous system needs it, as well as our skeletal, endocrine, and reproductive systems. It is an energy source, and after about half an hour of exercise, when the carbohydrate reserves are depleted, your body starts to draw energy from fat. Leaner doesn’t always mean better. About 15-20 percent of body fat is required, so our bodies could function properly, and having fat percentage beneath that number has its negative effects. Male bodybuilders go below 5 percent, which is an alarming amount, but only when contesting (not staying below 5 percent all the time). Read and see what happens when body fat percentage goes lower than it should.
