The Prelude is the introduction to the book “The Steps to Following Jesus.” The Book is written by Mr. Donnie Browning Ed.S., MA., BA. Mr. Browning is a Teacher, an Educational Specialist in Leadership, a Youth Group Leader, and the Executive Director of Community Christian Academy Lifelong Learning Center.
In chapter 17 there are several reunions and the author solves some of the central storylines of the legend. In the oral tradition of her people the author shares the history of the traditional legends of the two main characters in the legend.
Chapter 15 is titled revenge. In chapter 15 you will listen and read about how Bird Girl is faced with circumstances that forces her to decide about staying with Chickwaii or leaving and returning to her people. In Chapter 16 Daagoo is faced with same choices.
Daagoo had finally reached the Land of the Sun and he found many pleasures in this land. He was able to live comfortably and easily off the sea and the beaches. He also discovered a woman with a new born child in this land and this changed his life.
After five years of living with the new band, Daagoo watched the youth that he trained mature into young men, take wives and start families. Daagoo himself remained single and took care of his mother, but his heart desired to follow his dream.
Bird Girl continues to live in misery and in oppression by her Ch’eekwaii captor Turak. Turak continues to abuse Bird Girl and after forcing himself upon her she becomes pregnant with his child and gives birth to a baby boy. Turak’s son.
In the beginning of winter Daagoo, his mother, and mostly women and children who were left in the band struggle to survive without the men who were slaughtered by the Ch’eekwaii hunters while they were lying down to sleep.
After Daagoo discovered his father and the other men from his clan murdered by their rival tribe. He must race them quickly away from their enemies and then start a new camp far away from their old and race to build shelter, collect and catch food, and make warm clothes for themselves. It truly was a race between life and death.
Bird Girl runs away from her tribal band and heads off in the wilderness to prove herself a worthy hunter and survivor. She makes her ways to the mountains where the caribou make their winter home.
