Hey Q-Inspired! I want to share another music video with you and talk about how I made it. This track is called 'sinking under' and it was a collaboration with an incredibly talented local vocalist (Washington DC, USA) named Amanda Dove.

I actually started the track without the intention of having vocals on it. I recorded a bunch of water sounds in our bathtub (picture below, it's now taken over by baby bath gear!). This was a lot of fun, and my wife definitely thought it was weird that I filled the bathtub up to splash around and record it! But I got a bunch of really cool water sounds - which I was able to build most of a drum kit out of.

Amanda really ran with the water theme, and wrote lyrics that fit in perfectly. I hadn't worked with a vocalist in a very long time - so there was a lot of learning involved in the studio with layering and effect chains. I'm happy with how it turned out, but I'm definitely seeking to continue to improve my ability to process and mix vocals.

We had plans to make a full music video - but the track got pushed back and the arrival of my baby son Reed made getting together very difficult. So instead we did a remote 'making of' video idea instead. We thought that having blindfolds on for part of the video would bring a nice element to tie it back to the lyrics. Both of us didn't anticipate how difficult it would be to film ourselves in frame blindfolded! But after many re-shoots we made it work!

We hope you enjoy our track! We're already working on another collaboration :-)

Cheers,

Blaudiss

Hey Q-Inspired! I was very inspired this spring by our garden and the blooming flowers in our neighborhood. I've been taking a lot of walks lately with my newborn son - and taking lots of videos and pictures while on the walks! He loves the colors and to see the flowers, branches, and plants up close.

Until we moved into this house a couple years ago, I didn't realize that apple and peach trees have beautiful flowers that bloom in early spring. The still shot below is of our apple tree. Unfortunately, this year the squirrels have stolen many of our best apples! But we should be able to enjoy some in a couple months. We also have fig trees, but they didn't have pretty flowers to show!

We also have a handful of beautiful hydrangea's throughout our yard. This is a still of the purple variety. We also have some pink ones. In our neighborhood there are all different colors, including white and multi-colored.

Caring for our baby was a lot of work this spring - so I wasn't able to plant many new flowers or fruit this year. I hope to expand our garden next spring, though, and I've been thinking about adding some more flower bushes and maybe a small vegetable plot.

I wrote this track to try and capture the essence of spring. It's more uplifting than my typical style - and is titled 'rejuvenate' because in spring so many plants and wildlife come back to their beauty after the winter. This is the first time I've really connected the initial musical concept in my music to the audio. I've been trying to improve my video editing and shooting - all feedback is very welcome! Cheers!

Hey C/Q-Inspired! I wanted to share with you wonderful people a new music video/making of video I made. With this and other music videos, I try to do the most with what I have. In this case, I filmed the video from my phone (Google Pixel 5) in my house and backyard.

A shot that I think is pretty cool is the opening view. I took my patio chair and set up a projector on it. I then multiplied the image four times in Sony Vegas (video editing software) in order to make this diamond-like visual effect.

I've been using this multiply effect in my videos more frequently lately. I was heavily inspired by the Neftlix show 'Dark' which includes this effect in it's opening credits. I use this technique again in the video with a bush in my back yard. It transforms it into something pretty cool (starting as a very boring bush!).

Most of my recent videos are in black and white. I really like the consistency it gives the visuals when moving scene-to-scene. I'm working on getting better at color control and aesthetic consistency in my videos - and black and white is helpful in achieving that aim. I hope to use color to it's maximum effect when I introduce it back in future video projects.

I'm happy at how this video turned out, and at how much I've progressed in just over a year of self-produced music videos. I'm very open to any feedback, particularly constructive criticism - let me know what you think!

Hey C/Music! I made a 'making of' video for my recent track, "The Awe of the Unknown." I wanted to try something a bit different with this one. I've been thinking about potential options to make music videos from my home, and greenscreen is a potential way to increase my creative options.

I thought I could integrate greenscreen in a creative way with green tape. This is pretty cool, I can stick this green tape on anything - then put it into a video editor (I use Sony Vegas) and make it any image.

I tried this technique on a lot of different views in the video. Looking back on the video, I'm not very happy with the quality of most of the shots (the green screen tape is a bit blocky at times, and makes it feel cheesy). But hey - I gave it a try! There is one shot that I thought was pretty cool, so I might do this one again.

This one makes it feel like I'm the controller of a spaceship with all the keys and space zooming around.

Anyway, it was a fun experiment even if it ends up being a one-time video! Cheers!

Hey C/Hive Open Mic! Congrats on over 100 open mic events! It's been so incredible to hear and share music with you all. I absolutely love the "Freedom of Expression" theme this week. Freedom of expression is so important in my life. Music is the one place where I feel I have full freedom. I first felt this when I played jazz in my younger years. The joy and freedom in improvisation has stuck with me, and is used heavily in my music. I try to incorporate improvisation as much as possible in my shows and tracks.

This track, "Fly High" is an older one from me (4 years ago!). But I'm bringing it back for this theme! The track was based off a series of paintings by an artist I love, Karina Ilergo https://karinallergoart.com/collections/motivational-abstract-figurative-paintings/products/copy-of-hope-canvas-embellished

My music is always inspired by some sort of visual art - but this piece in particular is highly motivated by the piece above and below. I wanted to essentially take what is going on in the paintings and turn the visual experience into a musical experience.

Thanks for being so awesome Hive Open Mic! Much Love! Gracias por ver mi post!

Hey C/Musicforlife 🎶! I really enjoyed playing this show for the Some Good Music Vibes Spring 2022 online music festival. I played sax live, and DJed on an akai midi controller.

I then tied in visuals from previous music videos, along with footage I've taken in the past year. There are shots from my trip to West Virginia, a snowy day in Maryland, and from my home studio.

There were so many different color palates going on in the video, so I made it black and white to be consistent and clean looking. I arranged the lighting to focus on the instruments in the performance, and then increased the contrast to make it look like the instruments are almost being played out of nowhere.

Thanks for checking out my music! I have other music and videos here on 3speak, or on these platforms https://fanlink.to/blaudiss

Heya C/Musicforlife 🎶! I hope you enjoy this new addition to my music project, meteor shower. Years ago I learned how to use vocoders and was amazed at how any sound could be translated into tonal music. I used this often in my music, making backing pads and atmospheres using natural sounds. This track, I wanted to put this technique front and center. The beginning of the track starts with a hail storm, and then I slowly turn on the vocoder effects. The plinks of hail slowly become musical notes and chords. This introduction represents one of the main creative drivers in my music project - to turn everyday experiences and items into music. There is so much beauty and music in the world if we open our ears to it! We had a beautiful snow storm in our area this winter, and I thought the footage of snow falling would be a fitting theme for a track about meteor showers. Thanks so much for listening!

Hey Hive gamers! Here's a video I made to help promote the upcoming Hive game Psyber X.

I joined Hive about a month ago and I've been loving the community and the games. I was very happy to see a new game, which looks beautiful, coming into this ecosystem.

I wrote this track, recorded the instruments/video, and tied in some footage from a video @laritheghost posted. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you @ksam for suggesting I work on this!

Heya C/Q-inspired and Hive - this is another video in my 'making of' series, which shows listeners of my music how it's made! Thank you for the warm welcome in C/Q-Inspired last week, I've loved interacting with your community and seeing all of the wonderful creative work you've done!

This track features the incredibly talented Jiro on cello. I've always wanted the sound of real strings in my music, and Jiro took it to the next level! His low cello and layered parts just sing to my ears.

I hope you enjoy this bittersweet piece about new experiences and understanding. Much <3

Hey Hive Open Mic! My submission this week is my track, "BlauDisS - from the ashes". I wrote this track after coming out of a long writers block. It's about rising up after going through difficult times and becoming stronger in the end.

These past two years have been challenging, but I'm so thankful for finding this incredible community! Happy New Year all!

Hey C/Qsounds - this is my first post in this Community! I've been enjoying the content and the wonderful stories around the music I've heard here.

Khan Khentii is my contribution to the Trans-Siberian Express album for the Legacy of Thought label. Each artist wrote a track for stops on the Trans-Siberian railway in (mostly) Russia. I've been wanting to use Mongolian throat singing in my music for awhile now, and this was the perfect opportunity to try it out! I've also been thinking about more experimentation with different time signatures. This is the first track I've written in 6/8 time in the BlauDisS project. You may also notice that many of the percussion sounds are from trains (wheels rolling, steam) to fit the album theme.

I recorded as many of the sounds as I could myself - but used some sampling to stick with the theme of the album. I'm really happy to be included in such a cool concept album - I highly recommend checking out the full project, linked below!
