So your about to film some content and you got the camera all set up and composed well. You film the video and it looks amazing but sounds like trash. It’s time to buy a microphone.

So when it comes to audio for your video or maybe its just a podcast, there are endless microphones to chose from, so we are not going to discuss specific microphone models here but the type of microphone your looking for. There all kinds of speciality microphones but lets talk about the main three type your most likely going to need or want. That is a shot gun microphone, a dynamic microphone, and a lavalier microphone.

Lets start with lavalier microphone or the Lapel microphone. The lavalier is probably the best option when it comes to beginners in the content creation world. Because they can be the easiest to use, you usually just clip it to your shirt or who ever your are capture it audio on. And they force you to get the mic close. Any microphone, no matter prince, brand, right type of mic will sound its best the closer it is the sound source. Most lav mics have what’s called an “omnidirectional pickup pattern” which means the capsule itself does not need to be oriented in any way to get the best sound. So you can clip the mic facing any direction on the person and will sound all the same no matter it the mic is sides ways or up side down.

The next type of mic is the Dynamic Microphone. The dynamic mic is probably the most popular in podcasts and radio shows. A dynamic has a very small pick up pattern and is usually in the shot either on some sort of boom arm or desk mount. Dynamic Microphones are great for small spaces with bad sound treatment because of that small pickup pattern. They are less sensitive microphones that force you to talk close into the mic which forces the “proximity effect” and gives that very close sounding “radio” voice.

And the last Microphone we are going to mention here is the Shotgun Condenser microphone. These microphones are typically what you see a boom operator use on a film set. Shotgun microphones are very directional and have a pickup pattern that is very narrow and has a spread similar to a shotgun. These mics are great at rejecting sounds coming in on the sides and usually do pretty well at rejecting the sounds coming from the rear. The condensers are the most popular in film because these mics usually have a more natural sound that they record and are held usually just out of the frame on the shot. They are typically the highest quality when it comes to sound. But it really comes down to the right too for the job. There are some shots in film that would be impossible without getting a boom mic in the shot which can force the situation to require a lav mic. And a Dynamic microphones may just make more sense for a simple podcast setup in a small room, it just depends on what you are trying to do, just make sure you invest in the right tool that is going to serve your content.

A lot of the time businesses know they need to start creating content and really just don’t know where to start. One of the best places to start right now is a video podcast for your business. There’s a lot of information out there on how to set up a podcast and get started so we’re not gonna go into that here but we will talk about the benefits of how a podcast can massively benefit your content game. No matter what business you’re in whether that’s construction, hair stylist, personal training, or just landscaping I believe a podcast is beneficial to any business doing anything.

When you come up with a podcast for your business there’s less pre-planning involved not saying you shouldn’t plan which going to talk about ever but just start a 10 minute conversation with your business partner or coworkers or just outline some bullet points to talk about topics and facts in your industry or business you can reach customer testimonials you can have customers on even if it’s just a quick 10 minute conversation.

And we would highly recommend you have a camera and record video of these conversations or talks. Video is what makes this important because now you shoot 5 to 10 short Podcast episodes for your business now you can choose to upload all these two are hosting platforms and put them on actual podcast platforms but that’s not where we really see the benefit of a podcast for your business. Creating a new podcast for your business helps you build a massive library of content really quickly. And you can start posting these episodes onto a website's Facebook page but where it’s really most powerful is most likely people are going to watch your whole episode about your business. But the side effect of creating a podcast is a good one of which you have tons of content to pull 10 second pieces from 30 second pieces from you can now start posting social media stories, and pieces from the podcast it becomes a giant pool of contact for you to repurpose and re-put out there.

You don’t even have to put the full episodes out if you don’t want to just use pieces and segments of conversations and repurpose all of it. Something you could do if you have a marketing team is hire out a company to produce your podcast video for your business and maybe shoot 5 to 10 short episodes in one day and asked to have all of those given to you and maybe you have an editor on your marketing team or anybody who can do some simple editing for Instagram or Facebook or social media management. Well now after one day of shooting 5 Episodes of topics or talking points in your industry you can Apple pieces out and start putting them all over your social media accounts making you look more like a leader in authority figure in your industry also you have snippets of advertisement ads To pull out from.

A video podcast is probably one of the most Efficient ways to invest in content for your business because you can repurpose so much of it and you get so much quality content and it’s less stressful and I’ve less planning involved and is easier to keep consistent.

Audio is 50 percent of the experience when it comes to video content. Some would argue that is more than that, and we would say the same. People can forgive a bad video if it has good audio, but it's harder to pay attention to a video that looks cinematically beautiful but sounds atrocious. A good example of audio is more important than video is Joe Rogan’s podcast ,The Joe Rogan Experience. Because it is a podcast first they paid attention to audio before video. Joe’s YouTube videos get millions of views daily even though his content is still shot in 1080p with okay lighting but far from a beautiful image. Content is king, then audio, then visuals.

When creating content for your business your first natural instinct is to think about the camera you would use whether you are looking to buy a dedicated camera or how to use your phone’s camera. But where most people fail is the importance of audio. Most people will sit their phone on a tripod and stand 5 to 10 feet away and speak loudly towards their phone with a hard to hear irrentating reverb and talk about their business. The impression this could leave would be a bad one. It can make you look professional and look like you didn’t take your video seriously and therefore it may look like you don’t take your business serious enough.

Most people won't be able to put their finger on why they think a video is “cheap” or low quality, that’s because bad annoying audio is noticed even on a subconscious level. Nothing will make you click away or scroll past a video that starts with terrible audio. But it is more likely that people won't even notice a low quality or resolution video if the audio is good.

You do not have to be an audio engineer to get decent audio, the simple things such as just getting your microphone close to the sound source will get more than halfway there. Just following proper mic technique and choosing the right kind of microphone for what it is your trying to do.

You are a content creation company no matter what it is you do or sell! Let me explain. One of the best ways to bring traffic to your website is through content. Think about how many times you have became aware of a service or product through social media or an online advertisement. Probably more than you have just been recommended by a friend about a service or product you should try. So think about all the opportunity you are missing out on when it just comes to people becoming aware your business even exist!

I like to think of your website as on of the most important things for your business it is the new front door to any business. So you finally build your website, think of it like you just built your building on the internet. How is anyone going to find your building when you have no connected roads or signs or billboards pointing people to your business. You need to start laying tracks down and building path ways to your building for people to walk by or drive by and just see your business. And these tracks, sidewalks, and roads are actually all the content you can put out into the world to get noticed.

Content is a pillar in most modern companies. Name one big brand or know business that isn’t making content. You had to think about that didn’t you. That’s because there is no denying that putting content out is effective over the buisnesss that isn’t. Right now where there are a few people making social media content about car detailing. I wasn’t looking for a detailed but I kept seeing their content. So few months go by and now I actually am thinking about having my care detailed, you know who comes to mind right away? You guessed it the people I have seen before on social media in my area that do car detailing. That is just one example of content just making people aware that you exist. And if there are any other retailers in my area I wouldn’t even know they exist even if they are better.

If you'r not creating content for your business you are severely falling behind.
