God is righteous. Righteous as an adjective is defined as “acting in accord with divine or moral law; free from guilt or sin; morally right or justifiable” according to the dictionary in the back of my Bible. Today, we’re talking about God’s righteousness and what that means for us as believers.

Today, I want to share one of the most recent things I learned about a very familiar story for most of us who grew up in the church. Ya’ll remember that story about Jesus flipping tables in the temple? We’re talking about that today.

God is just and merciful. Today we are going to look at two attributes of God and hopefully by the end, we will walk away with a better appreciation of the weight of God’s justice and the beauty of his mercy. An improper view of God’s justice diminishes the ability to properly understand and comprehend his mercy. A worldly view of God’s justice, cheapens God’s mercy. You ready? Let’s get into it!

When we talk about love, specifically the love of God, there is one verse that rings in the minds of many; whether they are newly repentant Christians or biblical scholars. Ya’ll know it! John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. God loved the world. Not just the Jews, but the Gentiles too. Not just the obedient and faithful, but the faithless and wayward. In the words of Jackie Hill Perry, God loves the Saints and the Aints. God loved and still loves us. God’s love is so intrinsic an attribute of His that it is often said God is love. In fact, 1 John 4:16 says as much “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” That’s right ya’ll, today we’re talking about what one could argue is the most well-known attribute of God, His love.

Much like sovereignty, holiness is something we Christians speak often of, but I don’t think we quite grasp the magnitude of God’s holiness. To be quite honest, I don’t think we will ever fully grasp the entirety of what the holiness of God means, until we meet Him face to face. But as we endeavor to draw nearer to God daily, let’s briefly explore the next attribute of God: His holiness.

In an article written by John Frame for The Gospel Coalition, Frame writes: “The sovereignty of God is the same as the lordship of God, for God is the sovereign over all of creation. The major components of God’s lordship are his control, authority, and covenantal presence.”
In today’s episode about God’s attributes, we’re talking about His sovereignty.

Today’s episode is a small break from the attributes of God to talk about something that has been on my heart lately. I know that many of the listeners to this podcast are mothers and if you are not a mother currently you may want to be a mom soon, or you may have no desire to be a mom but have children in your life who you deeply love. So, this episode applies to everyone.
Today, We’re talking about kids.

God is patient and persistent. How often do we consider God’s patience and persistence and thank Him for it?
The persistence and patience of God is something that I am well acquainted with. Being someone who was raised in the Church but up until five years ago, lived with one foot in the church and one foot in the world, I can see the evidence of God’s persistence all over my life. Throughout my life, God has persisted in pursuing me, never abandoned me, and patiently waited for me to come back to Him. That’s why I’m so excited to dive into another pair of God’s attributes with you today; His patience and persistence.
Exodus 34:6, Psalm 86:15, Psalm 103:8, Nehemiah 9:16-17, Matthew 13:24-30, Matthew 13:36-43, 2 Peter 3:8-10

What does it mean to be faithful? How do we know that God is faithful? And what does God’s faithfulness mean for us as disciples?
If you listened to last week’s episode, you heard the story of how I have seen God’s faithfulness show up in my life most recently, but truthfully, the evidence of God’s faithfulness is all over my life. Last week we talked about the immutability of God, of how God does not change. His faithfulness and His immutability are closely tied together. Because God does not change, He is faithful. I can’t wait to talk with you about God’s faithfulness, so let’s get to it.

What is an attribute?
Oxford languages defines an attribute as “a quality or feature regarded as a characteristic or an inherent part of someone or something.”
So when we are talking about the attributes of God we are talking about the inherent parts of God, the characteristics of God that are intrinsic, essential parts of who God is.
We’re talking about his character.

Too often we think that fellowship is done in church on Sunday morning. We act as though because we sat in a pew, sang songs together, and possibly “turned and greeted our neighbors” (if your church does that), we have fulfilled our call to fellowship.
But fellowship is not a hey, hello, how are you? And you respond by saying blessed and highly favored and you each go on about your day.
Fellowship is a calling in our lives. It is a continuous action. It is a state of being and moving through life with other believers. It’s not something that we turn on and turn off every Sunday. Being a disciple is about fellowship with God and fellowship with other believers. If you haven’t guessed already, today we’re talking about the fourth core value of She Disciples, Fully Fellowship.

As believers, as disciples, we are commanded to love. This love is not conditional. Because God’s love for us is not conditional. In our sin, muck, shame, and regret, God’s love for us was no less than it was when we accepted the gift of salvation. Therefore our love for others should reflect that as well. We are called to love the Holy people and broken people. When we say that we love well it means that we love God fully, our love for him and others is an act of worship and obedience. Our love for others is indicative of our relationship with God and is a testimony to the world of who our God is.

Truth is more than just words on a page or a verse here and there memorized. Truth infiltrates every aspect of your life. That is what it means to know truth. It is a presence. It has a seat at your table. It has a say in your decisions. It holds you accountable. It convicts and it comforts. Do you know truth?

Welcome to the She Disciples Podcast. I’m Liz, your host. I'm a military wife, mother, and prodigal daughter returned. This podcast is for women like me, persistent in your pursuit of God, ready to repent when we fall short rather than retreat from His mercy, and daring to dive into the Word of God and be a disciple. See, discipleship is not relegated to those who stand in the pulpit or hold a title in ministry. Discipleship is a calling on each of our lives. Discipleship takes place in marriage as we love and encourage our spouse, in motherhood as we pour into our children, in friendship on living room couches baring our hearts to one another. Discipleship takes place on campus, on the battlefield, and in the breakroom. Discipleship is found in the big and the small, the magnificent and the mundane. Discipleship is not a line on our to-do list or to be put off until the kids are a little bigger, or when we’re a little more financially stable, or when we have it together a little bit more. Discipleship is our purpose as believers. The 4 core values of the She Disciples podcast are to Know Truth, Love Well, Bear Fruit, and Fully Fellowship. If you’re looking for a community of women who want to dive into God’s word, who love Jesus and love others, who long to bear fruit in His kingdom, and who are all in on community and fellowship, you’ve found the right place. Be sure to subscribe to the She Disciples podcast and tune in for new episodes every Wednesday. If you’re looking for more community, join me over on Instagram at @SheDisciplesPodcast. Let’s get our disciple on girl!
Annndddd we're back! Today I'm sharing a major struggle in my life and a key passage from the Bible that we each can hold onto when we come up against an identity crisis.

We live in a world where we are told that there is no such thing as absolute truth, only relative truth. There is "my truth", "your truth", and we must accept one another's versions of the truth. What do we do when we are faced with a world that has an aversion to the truth?

Too often I am guilty of using God and His Word as if it is a vending machine. Only going to God when I need something. Only picking and choosing the verses that delight me. Have you found yourself doing this as well? It is time we stop treating God's word like a snack and instead dive into it for what it is. Nourishment. A full meal. It is exactly what we need every day and in every situation.
Verses referenced in this episode were Psalm 37:4 and Isaiah 55:8-9. They were read using the New Living Translation.
